Description of Work: Gutted and remodeled small bathroom $8,700. New construction: 400 sq ft $82,800: built new kitchen, family room & mudroom, re-worked old kitchen to double the size of our dining room. Our narrow driveway limited vehicular access to our property, causing costs to be somewhat higher than on a more accessible property. A screen porch and patio were removed & foundation dug. Two new doorways were cut through the old brick & block exterior wall and an old kitchen wall removed. New oak boards were pieced into the old kitchen floor to join it with the 60 year old dining room floor; after sanding, staining & sealing, the new floor looks great. Ceramic tile was laid in the mudroom & passage from the rear door to the basement. A deficiency in original construction was corrected by installation of a post & beam to support the 2nd floor; this involved cutting into all the 2nd floor joists, reconnecting them to the new beam & placement of a post to support the beam. The finished ceiling looks great, with no sign of the surgery. Sub-contractors were used for drywall, electric and kitchen plumbing; all the rest of the work was done by Dave & 2 assistants. The bathroom work involved replacing deteriorated drywall in the tub area & replacing with greenboard, re-tiling the tub & outer walls, removing old fixtures, providing & installing new tub, toilet & sink and the necessary plumbing changes, building a shelf unit into what had previously been a window, framing out the old medicine cabinet to match the new shelf frame, installing a light fixture & vent fan.
