Mr. Handyman provides superior customer service with excellent workmanship. We strive to be the most trusted and most professional in home maintenance/repairs. We value every customer and look forward to servicing your home.
Things could not have gone any better. Lee was friendly, efficient, and competent. He focused on the work and had everything completed in less time than I expected. He assessed the noisy ceiling fan and did not encourage me to pursue its repair. I would use this company again for any home repairs. Liz, the office manager, makes an effort to assign a Handyman with the talents to complete the jobs that need to be done.
Description of Work: Lee painted the bathroom, replaced a broken exhaust fan, repaired a non-working socket, and hung a lighting fixture. He also inspected the ceiling fan in the living room, and stated that no repair was needed. He was here for five hours.

We needed someone to install our doors. This meant they would make all the necessary measurements on the initial visit to make the cut outs and hang them on 'THE EXISTING DOOR FRAME.' Apparently using the existing door frame is a problem for some companies - they prefer to yank out the existing door frame and installing a NEW door frame and door. 1 - be sure they know exactly where you live - this ensures they know if you are on the ground floor that they have easy access to their tools because if you live high up like we do, they would have to lug all of their equipment up the freight elevator to your place. ---- We live on a high floor of a tall building. 2 - BE ABSOLUTELY sure whoever comes to your place that they get all the details; a) of the door to hang AND b) the existing door frame measurements. This is critical because it is necessary for the door to swing (or not swing but stay where you left it, so it does not drift because of it being off center), close and shut properly (the insert in the door jamb has to line up properly with the door lock mechanism). 3 - We had to ask them to send another carpenter to do one of the doors over and better (the door did not hang properly). So, overall we are okay with their service but in future we would ask for a more experienced person to show up and not someone who is not quite so experienced in hanging doors. I just do not quite understand why it such an undertaking to find a company to hang doors on existing door frames. All they have to do is make the measurements and cut to those measurements...
Description of Work: Cut and hung 2 solid core doors and 1 hollow core door. All interior.

It has gone well at all. No one has shown up. I have wasted my time waiting on a no-show.
Description of Work: I am currenly waiting on Mr. Handyman. So far, he is 1 hour and 30 minutes late. I have not received a phone call letting me know he is running late. I don't know if he will be here or not, but I am waiting no longer. I will not be using this company again.

Michael arrived on time, spent a few minutes surveying the situation, then set to work. He got door #1 open fairly quickly. Door #2 was a bit more recalcitrant, but yielded eventually. I was impressed by a couple of things. First: Michael knew what to do. He said he has been repairing sliding doors for years, and was confident he could get mine working again. Second: While Michael was worried that he might have to remove the doors and the surrounding molding, he tried the simple approach first -- and it worked. So no invasive surgery was needed. Third: Michael did the complete job. Once the doors were open, he carefully adjusted them to slide easily and seat firmly. All of which took one hour and cost me $158. Michael, thank you very much!
Description of Work: Two sliding doors leading to our deck were stuck shut when we moved in. Brute force would not get them open, so I decided to seek professional help. Michael from Mr Handyman got them unstuck and sliding freely.

Mr Handyman of Northern Montgomery County has done different things for me. He's repaired my roof, fixed a closet and fixed a lock that had broken on a storm door. He completely fixed the leak on my roof. Two other people have attempted to fix the leak, but they were unsuccessful.
He charged me based on time but I had a coupon, so it came under $200. I would recommend others to use him; I liked him. I would also advice others to always look for their coupons.
Description of Work: I used Mr. Handyman of Northern Montgomery County for some odds and ends. He fixed a leaking sink and a closet door that was off track. He put down some padding under our carpet that had to be replaced and he did some tacking around the carpets where the floors met.

I thought that everyone was very nice, courteous and professional and the handyman came out on time as scheduled and he was very professional. The only thing is that when you call in they give you a general time of when someone will come out. They will follow up with you again to give a more specific time frame and I had to follow up because nobody followed up with me.

From day one Mr. Handyman was responsive and efficient. They responded to our inquiry for work within 24 hours and had someone to work on our house in a timely manner. The guy we had work on our house (Lee) on two separate occasions was courteous and efficient. He took the time to explain things and was great. Victor and the female who works for Mr. Handyman always returned calls and were friendly and helpful. We would absolutely recommend them.

Mike G. showed up at exactly 8 A.M., handed me his business card, tools in hand and ready to work. He surveyed the job, asked a few questions and asked to sign a work order (20 min or so). Totally professional, so impressed! Mike did say it was a lot of work to try to hang 10 doors on his own and fix a piece of siding in one day, but that he was up for the job. About 4 doors in, Victor called Mike to ask how the job was going. Mike mentioned it was a lot of work, but he would get it done. Around 1 P.M. or so, a second handyman arrived (Chris, I think) - again very professional and ready to work. Mike pointed him in the right direction and Chris went to work. They both finished up about 2:30 or 3:00 and cleaned up very well. HERE IS WHERE THE BAD PART STARTS!!!! Victor calls and states that I owed him more money because: 1) He had to send a second guy out, and 2) The doors took longer than "he", as in Victor, thought they would take. Victor tried to hit me at every angle he could to jack up the total price: 1) "I need to charge you rate prices for 11 hours" ($158 for the first and $96 for the other 10 hours - $1118 an increase of $300) 2) "It was supposed to be $20 per shave and some of the doors needed to be shaved on two or more sides. I need to charge you for shaving each side" ( so up to $40 to $80 extra per door - $Several hundred dollar increase$) 3) The door that did not need to be shaved, "the frame had to be adjusted" (talking to the handyman, he said no it did not, he just put in longer screws - $20 increase) 4) " If I only charge you what we agreed, I dont make any money" 5) "I would pay you to find someone that would do this quality of work for the price we agreed to" ..THE LIST WENT ON AND ON AND ON..... Fortunately, I have a neighbor that has used Mr. Handyman (Victor) before and he warned me this would happen - Victor is known for doing this. Victor tried to nickel and dime at every angle he could After a long discussion about how little money he was making I eventually paid a total of $728.00 1) 9 doors @ $70 ( $630), 2) 1 door @ $50 ($50), 3) 1 siding @ $48 ($48) Victor stated that "he could not offer me the coupon, but would take care of me next time." I told him I would pay the $728 but disagreed about the coupon. He then proceeded to hang up on me. Even with the warning - I never thought this would have been such a fight to pay what Victor and I agreed to charge / pay. I did not even mention that a glass dome ceiling light got broken today in the process.... ...and now I will pay to replace and fix that too. Oh well, live and learn - I would use Mike again in a heartbeat. Doing business with Victor again... ...Not high on my list.
Description of Work: I contacted Mr. Handyman to replace 10 interior doors and a piece of siding for me. The owner Victor called me and we discussed the job and a price. At first he said $44 a door, then he said "lets be safe and call it $50 a door, plus an additional $20 per door if we have to shave them." He then quoted me $44 to hang the piece of siding. So I stated "so best case scenario $544 (10 doors at $50 + $44 for the siding) and worst case scenario $744 (10 X $70 + $44 for the siding) with it most likely being somewhere in the middle." Victor agreed. I asked him if he accepted the valpak coupon I had found or offered any promos for Angie's List customers. Victor stated "if you lock me in at $50 a door and none of them need to be shaved, I will not honor the coupon. However if most of them need to be shaved I will honor one of the coupons." - A little sketchy - I asked how many guys he would be sending out and Victor said one. I agreed to pricing and made the appointment for 1/4/13 at 8 A.M.

The customer measured and picked up the doors. We had to modify doors and door jam to make new doors work. The customer did not want to pay for any of the additional work and did not understand why we would have to charge more for doors that did not fit (that he picked out). The broken light was never mentioned and we would of gladly fixed anything we damaged.

Excellent experience from start to finish, beginning with the owner (Victor) coming out to do estimate himself. Great guy, very helpful in pricing the job (replacing drywall in three separate areas that had been removed as a result of Hurricane Sandy water damage). Went with Mr Handyman based on prior positive experiences and was not let down; had Lee out to work for a day and a half on relatively short notice right before the Thanksgiving holiday. Lee worked like a madman and did an excellent job replacing the three areas that needed repair; also did a great job installing a new ceiling fan where a previous one had also been damaged by Sandy. Excellent workmanship, excellent professionalism, just excellent all around. Pricing also very reasonable. Would definitely contract with again. Thanks, Victor and Lee - can't say enough about the mental peace of having no more ceiling holes.

I sent in a request via e-mail to be contacted and was immediately responded to within 4 hours. Liz worked with my schedule and had a technician come out. Michael, the technician, was very friendly and courteous. I had actually only expected to be given an estimate, but Michael said that he was available if we wanted him to start, so we agreed. Like many of you, I had a pretty good list of things I needed done. Fix a recessed light that hadn't worked for years, install a microwave, upgrade plugs. But the real challenge was to install a cell phone repeater on our house. Where we live we barely receive one or two bars on any given day. The challenge was to install it on the roof, weave it threw the attic, and then install the receiver in an out of the way location in the kitchen. Michael did all of these projects beautifully (how he installed the microwave without any help is amazing), but his ingenuity in how he approached and successfully installed the cell phone repeater was a real plus. There was a real possibility that we would have had multiples holes and exposed wires throughout the house, but Michael really thought it out well and it is barely noticeable, including the receiver that is attached to the ceiling (close to a wall) in my kitch. I am very happy with their service and will definitely be calling on them again.
The technician was prompt and very friendly. He gathered our list of repairs and immediately set to work. We pretty much left him to do the work without any assistance on our part, and he made every repair perfectly. We will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Mr Handyman adjusted five doors that did not close well, including the main house door, a cabiner door, shower stall door and two study doors. He repaired a ceiling and two wall drywall holes and installed a ceiling fan in a tall area. He also secured a loose faucet in a very tight space.

The pieces did not ship well and the tech show me what pieces suffered the most damage. Since the furniture was not to be located in an area of the house where the damage would be seen, I asked and the tech offered to re-nail the damaged pieces. If I had done the assembling myself I would have been very annoyed and frustrated and it would have taken me several weeks to assemble all the pieces. I was in awe at how quickly the work was being done. Though costly, for the time, the caring, and the effortless assembling by the tech, trash clean-up was not included (and it was pouring rain that day). However and overall, I am a very happy with the assembling service provided by Mr. Handyman of Northern Montgomery County. I will be making a list of other items to be done around the house for an estimate.
Description of Work: Mr. Handyman of Northern Montgomery County was hired to assemble a very heavy 3-pc wood computer desk. The computer desk consisted of a desk with a drawer and sliding keyboard tray; a side adjustable table with a drawer and shelves; and a hutch with shelves and a cabinet.

I submitted a service request online on a Saturday, and Victor Strassberger returned the call that evening. He was polite and asked for details about the jobs that needed to be done. Victor estimated the job would take about 6 hours. We discussed a schedule date and he said that his office would call to confirm on Monday. As I was in and out all day on Monday, I took the initiative and called the office. Liz acknowledged that my name was on her list to contact and apologized for not getting to me earlier in the day. We scheduled a service date for the following week. We received a phone call the night before telling us that the technician would arrive at 8:00am. Wayne Tolbert arrived exactly at the scheduled time. We were a bit surprised that there was only one person on this job, but Wayne did an outstanding job. He removed the old curbside mailbox and installed a new one (including setting the post in concrete), cleaned the gutters, and power washed the house. We recently had some remodeling done and the house siding was really dirty. We hadn't seen any Angie's List reports on Mr. Handyman doing power washing. Our house was power washed about 2 years ago by a team of three people, and it was not a good job. So, we didn't quite know what to expect from one person. Wayne, by himself, did an outstanding job. Our neighbor even commented that the house looked like the siding was brand new! The whole job took 8-1/2 hours rather than the estimated 6 hours. We were charged an additional $10.00 for the power washer gas. We wouldn't have considered this "supplies" as much as an equipment expense. Although this and the additional time cost us more money, it was money well spent. The hourly rate could run high for a one-technician project that takes a lot of time and must be done in stages with down time in between (like painting, masonry, etc, which has to dry or set before work can proceed). However, you need to remember when contracting with Mr. Handyman that charges are by the hour, with a 2-hour minimum charge, rather than by the project, so plan accordingly. We are happy to recommend Victor Strassberger, Mr. Handyman of Northern Montgomery County; and we will contact them again for another fall cleanup.

First I have to say, I was given a MUCH lower estimate...in the end I paid more than double the estimate I was given. There was little explanation when the price changed, and while I was told the hourly charge was a flat rate, I was charged an additional fee for the painter to drive the van used on the job...??? When the equipment broke while the painter (Charlie) was working, I was also charged for the time it took the painter to go to the local store to replace HIS broken equipment...I was also charged for the time the painter was in the store. The painter needed to strip old paint and spent hours using old, ineffective equipment before finally using a chemical paint stripper that took very little time. When the painter needed to come back the next day to complete trim work etc, I was told it would take less than an hour. I waited all day for the painter to arrive and received constant phone calls with a new, later time to expect the painter...I finally had to leave for another appointment and when I returned home, found a bill for nearly FIVE hours of work. The office/phone staff was consistently helpful...but I can't help feeling that I was taken for a ride by this painter....and charged for the extra mileage. The saving grace was that the office staff and the company owner made every attempt to make things right and gave me a discount to make up for the lack of communication and the additional, unexplained hours spent on this job while I wasn't home. A great company, a bad experience with this employee. I would probably use Mr. Handyman again, but definitely not this painter.

Shawn showed up on time and gave me an estimate of how long it would take. It took longer than estimated but largely because of unknow pre-existing conditions that had to be fixed (i.e., the siding was not actually attached to the chimney by anything other than the trim). They work M-F, but he came on a Saturday because he was going to be leaving on vacation and wanted to get everything finished. Fortunately, I could pay with a credit card, and then I didn't have to be there for the days it took--I just gave him a key (no problems there). The first two days it looked like nothing had been done (except the shutters were gone) because he spent the first day taking measurements and then constructed all the elements in PVC in the shop (and painted the shutters there, too). But then everything came together, and it looks great. He really took a lot of care and takes obvious pride in his work. The painting was done by other members of the Mr. Handyman staff (since he had left for vacation). One thing to note is that you should mention if it will take a really tall ladder to reach certain areas (like the top of a chimney for painting) because not all of them have tall enough ladders on their truck--the painting had to be done over two days because of this. I'm very satisfied and want him to come back and do some other trim and elements!
Description of Work: Replaced rotted wood exterior trim with PVC and painted it. Replaced rotting & peeling exterior wood decorative elements with PVC and painted them. Sanded and painted shutters. Fixed leaky vent. Replaced exterior light above front door.
