+ -1 moreExcellent work. Jim and TJ are honest people and highly experienced and skilled. They gave me an initial quote of $1850 and then only charged me $800, because they were able to fix the windows without ordering the parts they thought they would need.
Description of Work: He opened 11 wooden windows (all 35 years old) and fixed them so they would open and close easily. In many cases he had to replace the balance.

+ -1 moreReview of my fiancee's home repair in Laytonsville, Maryland : Deck needed to be re-stained by rolling a second time because his initial spraying did not suffice. The spindles and rails were never done, because he didn't think it really needed it even after 10+ years of wear and tear. The storm door screen needed full replacement and he tried to get away with just a sloppy repair job which eventually was completely replaced after much cajoling. The storm door hydraulic cylinder took two attempts since he brought the wrong size initially. A small window on the side of the house needed attention, because it was leaking and needed to be sealed and painted. However, he broke the window and it eventually needed to be replaced completely with the framing painted as well. Unfortunately, he was not honest enough to admit in doing so, which required me to report back to him in order to eventually get it done properly. Sidewalk pressure wash was mediocre at best. NOTE: He was fired from the remainder of the other home repair projects, which required my fiance to hire another handyman who was much less expensive and did quality work as well. The new handyman had to come back and correct Jim Ness' original mistakes and take over the remaining home repairs!

+ -1 moreMostly it was miscommunication, he paint my deck and the color that I thought we agree on came out like pink (salmon) He sent me the web for home depot for the color I thought it was natural and I did mention that the Association would not approved any other color, lucky for me the Association have not said anything but I had to buy more paint to fix the color. He did not performed the work himself but one of his employees and he only came when he came to measured my deck for the estimate after that I did not see him again. Every time I called he did not respond by phone only by email. Very disappointed and cost me $400.00 more.

Description of Work: Provider is actually installing a neighbor's fence and has left part of the new fence sitting on my property. Requested rep give me an estimate on numerous items in my home. Advised would get back to me the next day via email and 3 days later, still no estimate.

+ -1 moreThe crew was much more concerned with completing the work on the basement shelves than dealing with the water damage. They were building a shelf over the damaged area and did not repair it until I had asked them to take care of it. They had to call Mr. Ness to confirm. Again, the priority was to repair water damage, not to build shelves over the water damage that then could not be repaired later. They disregarded my need to have shelves a certain height and now I can not put the necessary objects on these permanent shelves. In addition, several of the shelves are crooked. They did not clean up the area after placing the shelves and left several objects outside that were ruined by the rain. My credit card was billed $1500 before the work and $5890 on October 3rd without my knowledge. This brings the total to $7290 which is much more than the estimate. The basement shelves were finished on October 8. The total job has not been finished. He was not authorized to bill my card for an amount in excess of the estimate and until the job was finished. I contacted him to discuss this matter and his response was that they did additional items that he did not discuss with me. He provided me with a bill after the fact that contained items I had not agreed upon. I asked him to remove the charges from my credit card that were unauthorized. He refuses to remove the charges because it is "Not in his best interest"." The credit card company reversed the charges and I closed that card.
Description of Work: Mr. Ness has performed many jobs at my home to my satisfaction in the past. I contacted him to evaluate and fix some water damage that had occurred during a recent storm. In addition, I was interested in having some shelves put in the basement, but I was very clear that the shelves were a secondary consideration and could happen at any time. My primary concern, which was voiced many times, was to take care of the water damage and to assure that it would not happen again. Mr. Ness came to my house and evaluated any potential for water damage. He did not pay much attention to the water damage that had occurred, in fact did not look at the damage in the living room at all, despite my repeatedly mentioning the water damage was a priority. He is often aloof on these issues, but I had been happy with previous work, so I trusted he would do the appropriate job. He provided me with an estimate of $4640.00 for all of the work. One third was placed on my credit card prior to any work being completed and then the balance was due on completion. Without warning and later than the stated date, they showed up to start the work. I was originally concerned because they were working on a gutter that had not caused any problem and was not working at all on the side that was the problem. His assistant called him and they likely figured out their mistake and changed the wood under the gutter, but again, did nothing to prevent the water damage from happening again. They also replaced several roof slates, but two have subsequently fallen off into the yard. They also replaced the basement window, but did not place the shield that was promised.
