I had a drain pipe break in by tube. The water that was being used, leaked throught the ceiling into the living room below. The insurance company said to call and have the water cleaned up. I gave them a call at 9 pm and they were willing to come out right away if needed, but I decided that it could wait till morning. They arrived first thing in the morning and checked for the level of moisture. They said that all was needed was some fans to be set up. They set up 2 commercial fans to blow across the floor to dry the carpet. They said they would be back in 2 days to get the fans, and I was left with the impression, to clean the carpet. They showed up to pick up the fans, but did not clean the carpet. They said I needed to get with the insurance company to get it done. Well after calls to my adjuster, I was told that to just let them know it could be done. So, the next day I actually got a call back from Service Master asking if anything else needs done. I told them about the carpet cleaning and they set up a time to do it. One guy showed up a couple days later to clean the carpet. Well honestly, the carpet really didn't look much better after they would done than before they started. I could have done as good a job with a rental machine from the store. The real kicker was that in all the charge was $500.00 to do it all. Really that much for 2 fans and 20 minutes work in cleaning the carpet. I will be calling someone else if I ever need this service again.
Description of Work: Set up fans to dry carpet. Cleaned carpet.

We had a fill tube on our toilet explode and flood the second floor bathroom, and the water drained down to the dining room below. The insurance company recommended ServiceMaster of Allegany County to us. No estimate was ever given by ServiceMaster. They showed up the day after we called them on a Wednesday and they put the commercial dehumidifiers in the dining room. They tested the walls, ceiling and floor for moisture. They poked a hole in the plaster and slat ceiling with a screwdriver. They were to come back every day and check the moisture levels. We didn't see them for the next two days. We called their office after day two of no call and no show. Thier office staff assured us that the technician would come by the next day, which was Saturday, eventhough it was his day off. I waited around the house all day Saturday, sat in the living room next to the front door and read a book. The service technician never showed up as promised. Nor did he call. It was now the weekend and we had to wait till Monday to get in contact with their office again. The technician did show up on Monday afternoon. He told us that he did stop by every day, including Saturday, but there was no answer. He said he rang the door bell and called our phone but there was no answer. We have an old school door bell that is just a loud ring, and my dog goes crazy whenever someone is at the door. I also work from home so I'm here 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. The guy lied to my face which is just unprofessional. If he would have said, I'm sorry I just didn't get around to you, at least he would have been honest. I don't care if you are not going to show up for a month, just set the expectations, and follow through. Don't tell me you are going to stop by everyday if you have no intention of doing so. If you can't make it because you are too busy, just call and let me know. I try to be accommodating and understand everyone is busy. The bill ended up being over $1,000 to bring the moisture level down to acceptable levels. Not sure if it was this high because they left the dehumidifiers running for six days or if that is their standard fee for leaving the dehumidifiers in the house. The invoice wasn't clear. I was going to call for clarification, but decided I was happy to have the ceiling, walls, and floor dried out. We sill had to hire another company to actually repair the water damage. I would have given ServiceMaster of Allegany County all "F" ratings. However, the things that saved them are: * their commercial dehumidifiers, which did dry out the ceiling and walls to an acceptable level; * their office staff was very professional, and returned our calls promptly. I personally would not use them again, and I didn't. We had our roof leak during this year's big rain and wind storms that left a bunch of the East Coast (and half of Cumberland) without power. We used another company to dry up that water damage, they were much better.
Description of Work: Commercial dehumidifiers brought into the house and turned on. Moisture tester inserted into wall, ceiling, and floor to determine moisture level. Hole poked in ceiling to speed dehumidifying process. Commercial dehumidifiers removed.
