Household Installs

Things started off well enough as Greg (the contractor who does business under the name Household Installs) did a good job of selling his services. However things quickly went downhill from there. A summary of the issues we encountered are below: In total Greg performed 12 days of work at our home. All 12 days he showed up late (sometimes only a few minutes, other times an hour or more). He was scheduled to arrive to perform work each day at 10am and I'd say on average he showed up around 10:30am. To make this worse he would leave to take a 90-minute lunch each day around 12-12:30pm. He'd get back to the house around 2pm and then leave around 4:30pm. If you do the math, his typical "work day" consists of 4.5 hours of actual work. As a result our relatively simple job took weeks to complete (works out well for him though since he gets paid by the hour and requires payment at the end of each day). On three separate occasions Greg failed to show up for work at all without any advance notice. I'd have to make special plans to work from home to accommodate him so this was exceptionally rude. The last project he was to work on involved installing a door on the closet area he built in our garage. He cut the expensive door he already charged us for too short and then left. He made plans to come back a week later to fix this but we never saw or heard from him again. He took his money and ran! We're planning to bring him to court for this. Additionally, he installed sheetrock in our closet space that we've learned since then is not up to code and a potential fire hazard even though assuring us that everything he did was according to code. To add insult to injury with regards to the minimal # of hours Greg worked each day, he would spend a significant portion of the each day on his phone and talking to people in the area. We live in a neighborhood still under development and a number of times I'd check in on him to find him talking to the construction workers in the area, arranging weekend jobs, etc, all while charging us for his services. Greg is extremely slow to work (bad when you're paying by the hour). Additionally, he consistently says the work he is doing will take significantly less time than what he ends up charging you for. 3 days in a row he told us, "Everything will be completed tomorrow," only to have to come back again the next day. We would have found somebody else to finish our work but at the tail end of the work to be completed he made a number of large promises that were unfulfilled. I highly recommend everybody stay away from this "company's" services. Greg is very unprofessional and performs low quality work. Buyer beware.
