Our heating system was consisting blowing out fuses after only 30-40 minutes of use. The call to company was courteous, and easy to schedule appointment a week out. The technician was prompt and called ahead as the company said they would. The technician was also courteous, and went to work assessing the system and issue. My only minor complaint is that I tried to follow him has moved from the internal system to external back and forth as he diagnosed, to learn about my own system and try to learn about how the repair is made, but I missed his return to the external system (thinking he had just gone to the truck for a tool was to re-enter the house). He made the repair without discussing it with me or explaining what was wrong first. When he re-entered to verify the repair he then explained the situation above. This was a minor issue as he struck me as knowledgeable and I had no reason to question his analysis once explained, nor would I have declined the repaired had he explained his diagnosis and quoted me first. This was experience with a heating repair so I don't know if this common. The repair had to be made as I was in no position to replace my heating system at the time. The repair seems to have worked and the system has had no problems as of Dec 28 2012. Though he advised to have a service call made in the spring to verify coolant levels.
Description of Work: The repair was explained as the internal system had been replaced more recently than the external (they should have been replaced at the same time) creating an imbalance in the coolant system resulting in a slow leak. The resulting low coolant causes the internal heating coils to be used more than intended to compensate, blowing the fuse. This has an additional issue since the external system was older it uses a refrigerant that is no longer manufactured and that will only get more expensive with time. He had to use 3 pounds of refrigerant at roughly $100 pop on this occasion and pointed out that he would be cost prohibitive to locate and repair the leak versus budgeting for coolant refill and planning for a complete system replacement. Especially as this is the first time this issue occurred in four years since buying the house. My only minor complaint is that I tried to follow him has moved from the internal system to external back and forth as he diagnosed, to learn about my own system and try to learn about how the repair is made, but I missed his return to the external system (thinking he had just gone to the truck for a tool was to re-enter the house). I am so pleased with my experience that I have recommended Grove Heating and Cooling to several friends. The honesty and professionalism of the people at Grove Heating and Cooling is refreshing and comforting. Grove continually exceeded my expectations from the prompt response of the initial evaluation of the problem to the installation of the new mechanical units. It has been almost 10 months now since the new units were installed and I can say with complete confidence that my heating and cooling bills have been cut by more than 50%, which I was not expecting and everything has operated flawlessly. Plus when I turn the heat or cooling system on there is an immediate response by the system which is felt throughout the entire house. The old unit took much longer to respond. The comfort the new system provides is incredible, making my entire family happy. I am thankful to have found such a wonderful company who takes pride in their work and in making the customer satisfied. I highly recommend Grove Heating and Cooling to anyone who is looking for a mechanical contractor they can trust in their home and to be fair and honest with the services provided.
Description of Work: In February of 2012 during a very cold time of the year the HVAC system to my home stopped producing heat. I called the office of Grove Heating and Cooling to schedule a service technician to evaluated the current mechanical system and determine why the HVAC was not producing heat. The next day a service tech arrived at my house to test the system and evaluate the problem. He determined the old equipment had a compressor leak and was not repairable. Additionally, he also told me the current unit was oversized (too large) for the heating and cooling requirements of the house and recommended a smaller replacement unit which would save me cost on the mechanical units and on the monthly electric bill. The next day Grove Heating and Cooling replaced the electric furnace (interior unit) and compressor (exterior unit) providing heat and air conditioning for the central heating and cooling system to the house with a 90% high efficiency Trane System. At the time of the service call Grove advised me of a financing program provided by Wells Fargo providing a 36 month term loan at 0% interest making the replacement of the furnace and compressor a very economical. The application was an easy online process which took minutes to complete and to receive approval. The cost out of pocket was zero dollars! The new units were installed in one day and the technicians were great. They arrived on time and installed the mechanical systems quickly.

The estimates were performed when scheduled and were complete and detailed. Grove also contacted our insurance agent and was helpful in getting us the money to repair the damaged parts. We got estimates from 3 other contractors. Then decided on the system we wanted and asked all contractors to bid equivalent systems and work. We selected Grove as the contractor. They scheduled the installation on the next day. Showed up on time and did not leave until the work was completed and the system back operational. We were impressed with their dedication and thouroughness. Even though the work was done on a Friday, the staff stayed two hours after normal quitting time to make sure we had a good working system for the night and weekend.
Description of Work: Reviewed damaged system, wrote an estimate for minimum needed repairs to heat pump compressor and lines. Also an estimate for an upgraded replacement system completed with new heat pump and electric heater. System to fit into existing ductwork.

From the first visit with the salespeson until all was complete the level of communication and service was exceptional. They did not try to oversell and from what I can see and feel so far, their recommendations for the correct equipment are right on. Their prices were also better than a few other contractors I contacted and their knowledge of the equipment they were selling was excellent. I had spent time researching before contacting contractors for estimates and the Grove salesperson was by far the most knowledgable of the Trane equipment. When the job was complete, I thought I would have to register all the new equipment with Trane for any warranty work and found out Grove had already done so. Nice touch. I would definitely recommend Grove and in the future I will call them for other services they provide.
Description of Work: Grove HVAC installed a new Trane furnace, AC and an Aprilaire Humidifier. Removed all old equipment and hauled away. Their work was very neat. Actually, when completed you never would have known they were there except for the new equipment installed. The salesperson arrived exactly at the correct time and the installers also were prompt, courteous and informative.

I was overall happy with the quick responsiveness and assessment of my a/c unit.
Description of Work: My air conditioner stopped blowing cold air the night before. I called Grove along with a few other companies in the AM. Grove was able to fit me in the same day on stand-by stating they would give me a call 30 min call window. I received the 30 min call window within an hour and a half of my initial call. The service techs where there when I arrived. It took them no time to assess that I had a bad capacitor and to replace it. Service Call/Diagnostic Fee: $124.00 ( I am not sure if this is their standard fee or the fee for same day service. When I made the initial call the receptionist did make me aware of the fee and told me that the tech would give me the price of any services that would be performed before they did them. ) Replaced a 35 +- 7.5 Capacitor: $148.00 (This seemed very high to me. Also, the tech had replaced the capacitor with out giving me the price) Total with $10.00 Coupon was $262.00 Total time to assess and repair: 30 mins 2 Techs came out to my house and were very professional. Not knowing much about the cost of the capacitor I did walk away thinking that the price was a bit inflated. After a few hours and still not being settled with the price of the capacitor, I called one of the other top listed companies on Angie's list who I reached earlier and that couldn't fit me in until the next day and they told me they the 35 +-7.5 capacitor would run me around $56.

The installation team was very professional, courteous, and took the time to answer all of my questions. Despite several 'hiccups' with the front office, we were pleased with their service. We scheduled an appointment for Saturday to have an estimate performed. They did not arrive during the scheduled window. After contacting the office, I learned that the Grove representative that was scheduled to come during the time claimed he called the house several times to confirm the appointment time before he arrived. When we did not answer the phone or return his call he assumed we were not home. It was later realized that the Grove representative was calling the wrong number. After realizing their mistake, the Grove representative immediately (45 min later) came to our house to perform the estimate. The estimate was slightly higher than several other quotes we received; however we decided to use Grove because they took the time to answer all our questions and gave us more options on what was needed. The installation team arrived the morning as scheduled and initiated the installation. Unfortunately, their duct fabricator had lost power at their facility and the new duct work was not available as required. The installation team fashioned a make-shift duct out of cardboard to ensure we had A/C for the evening (considering it was in the upper 90s this was very appreciated). The installation team returned the next day with the new duct and completed the installation. They took the time to review the new furnace and A/C with me and answered all my additional questions regarding the operation of the new units. When making the final payment for the equipment and installation the office accidently overcharged my credit card. After receiving my credit card statement and noticing the error, I contact the Grove office and they immediately apologized for the error and issued a credit to my account. Again, when the office made an error in submitting the BGE rebate for my unit they immediately acknowledged the error and submitted the appropriate rebate to rectify their mistake. Despite several missteps with the front office, I would recommend Grove again. While the office is prone to mistakes, they do resolve them as soon as they are realized without any argument or complaint.

Aircon stopped producing cold air. I called Grove (based on Angie's list reviews) and they said they could schedule me for the next day at $126 or come same day as an emergency for $180. I chose the same day as it was very hot and uncomfortable. I was told they would arrive before 3 PM but they didn't show or call. I called the office at 4 PM to inquire as to what was happening. The dispatcher said she would call them and get them to my house. They finally arrived about 4:30. They fixed the problem - a capacitor- and also topped off my freon at my request ($65). They then presented me with a bill for $405 ($180 for emergency call + 160 for diagnosis and repair + $65 for freon) which I did not expect since another customer had mentioned in their review that they had only paid $210 for a capacitor replacement.I called their HQ to complain that I thought the price for diagnosing and repair (except parts) was a part of the $180 I was charged. They said that they had to pay for the insurance on the vehicle and the time and gas to come by. I told them that was fine but that I was not their only customer that day so how many times did they have to charge for insurance, etc? They said they had a schedule of costs and every aircon repair business used the same prices. I could see that I had been had and just decided I would never use them again. What I learned from this is that you should ask exactly what their costs are and then compare with other companies regardless of what their rating is on Angie's List - unless you have a lot of money and don't care about costs.
Description of Work: Aircon not working. Replaced a capacitor and topped off freon. It took about a half hour to complete repairs.

During a lightening storm, our AC unit stopped running. The following morning we left messages for a few companies (all top rated on Angie's List). Grove Electric was the first to return our call. They didn't have any appointments open but they gave us an anytime appointment and promised to be out before the end of the day. The office staff were courteous and professional and didn't mind at all that I checked in a few times. They also called me as soon as they had someone available. The repairman arrived around 4pm. He looked over our exterior compressor unit and diagnosed the issue. The truck was stocked with the replacement breaker. He made the repair within 15 minutes of his arrival also taking time to makes sure we understood the issue and resolution. After completing the work, he waited to make sure the system began cooling our house again, provided us with an invoice and went on his way. My only complaint at all was the price. It seemed a little high to me given that it was such a minor repair. However, I happily paid given that they were able to service our unit the same day we called in. Less than 24 hours after the storm took out our AC we had it back. For that I am thankful!

I noticed yesterday evening that my air conditioner was no longer blowing cold air. I called Grove first thing this morning and they arranged for a technician to come out today. The technician was able to diagnose and fix the problem in about 10 minutes. He was very knowledgeable, we talked for a few minutes about cost ranges and types of replacement systems as well as different ways I could heat and cool the rooms in my basement.

I called to make an appointment and was able to receive same day service. The person who took my call was friendly and informative. My reason for calling Grove was in part because my in-laws use them and we have a service contact with BGE Home and we werent sure if it was the only opinion to take with our broke A/C. The technician, Josh, arrived at our home and took a look inside and out. He gave us his feedback on what he thought the issue was and measured the coolant level. He explained that our unit's coolant may be leaking and gave us some good information and things to consider. He did not need to "fix" anything per se since we had someone out the day before, but it gave us an additional sense of mind. He recommended that they come back in 2 weeks and check the pressures.

This company is amazing. I will never use another company. I called the company on a Saturday morning and spoke to a very pleasant receptionist. Within ten minutes, Mr. Brian Bugg, the service technician called, and twenty minutes later, he was at our house. Our air conditioning was not working, and Brian, very professional, clearly with much experience, and pleasant, soon diagnosed the problem and before we could blink, the air conditioning was working. I bought a service contract with them, which is much more reasonable and comprehensive than other companies. The company also offered us a senior discount, which was much appreciated. Brian told me he loves working for the company, and the owners treat him very well. This is the best company I have ever dealt with, and Brian really knows his job. They get sn A+ rating from us. Save yourself some time and don't call any other companies. If you want prompt, professional, and reasonably priced services, choose Grove Heating and Cooling!

The person that I spoke with to set up the appointment explained what the maintenance policy covered and gave me a choice of days when I could have the technician come. He called before coming and was prompt and thorough. He reviewed what the maintenance policy covered. Before coming in my home, he put on shoe coverings so as not to track in dirt. I've never had a serviceman do that! I am not having a problem with my system; this was purely for maintenance, but I was very pleased with the service.

My daughter had been complaining about no (or very little) heat in her room. I gave her a space heater. A couple of months later, I came home and my wife and son were complaining about an intermittent squealing noise that my son had traced to the furnace. I sprayed some WD40 on the blower motor and it went away, but came back the next day. I tried some more WD40, but I figured my 19-year old furnace was on it's last leg. I called two Angie's list companies to give my quotes on repairing or replacing the system. Both told me repairing was not a smart option given the system's age. Grove gave me the best quote price. Daniel came out the same day I called. Other company came the next day. Not only did he give me the best price, but he suggested a better system (Trane) with 10,000 more BTU (80,000) than current contractor-grade system. The other company quoted me more $$ for a 70,000 BTU system from different but also well-known brand. Other company also mis-quoted Trane's warranty provisions as reason for suggesting other brand furnace. I called on Monday, they installed on Friday!! I am now the proud papa of bouncing baby Trane furnace that is keeping my home warm on these last few days of an admittedly mild Winter of 2012. I hope I'm set for another 20 years. The install was challenging due to space limitations. But Kevin and Austin did some fancy duct work tricks to get it in there!! They were very professional and courteous and you just got the feeling they were the kind of guys you could leave in your home unattended. In fact, I was not there for the installation. I had to work, but left my teens at home to meet the installers. The work was so neat, that if I knew how, I would post a picture. I was so pleased with everything, that I called this morning to schedule them to look at my parent's furnace. So when Kevin finishes my humidifier install today, he is going over to my parent's condo 10 minutes away to do a service call and I just made the call for this service this morning. I love a company that is big enough to get the job done, but small enough to be flexible and make a same-day service call at my parent's condo with the same technician who if finishing my humidifier install today. I don't think you can go wrong with Grove...and by the way, this is my first Angie's list post.
Description of Work: I had a Trane Model XB90 92% efficiency furnace installed, along with an AprilAire whole-house humidfier with all necessary duct work in a tight space. System was mated to an existing central A/C system.

I got my Angies list subscription as a Christmas present from my girlfriend as I spend too much time trying to find and have had bad experiences with repair people. I have a rental house in Bowie MD and live in Leesburg VA. I hadn't activated my membership yet, but when my brother went over today to install two explosive gas and carbon monoxied detectors to replace a broken one, he found that they both reported a level of between 35-40. I looked up on the internet and it said exposure at this level for 2-3 hours could cause flu like symptoms. He said he and his helper hadn't felt well there today. I told him to immediately open the windows and get outside. I then activated my membership and looked up heating and plumbing contractors and looked for one that had a lot of calls in my area with all A's. I selected Grove and called, got someone and explained the situation. It was 4:30 pm. I told them I needed to get someone out tonight. She explained it would be an emergency call that was $60 more than their normal service call, which I thought was totally reasonable, but it didn't matter-I needed someone there fast. They said they would be there in 1/2 hour, and were there in 20 minutes. Their technician spent an hour there checking everything and used his meter. His meter read 0 to 1 part per million. He called a second person to make sure his meter was ok and not one but two other people showed up in 15 minutes. They carefully evaluated it with their meters and checked the gas furnace, flue and water heater out thoroughly. They spent 1 1/2 hours there making sure everything was absolutely safe. It turns out the two brand new detectors are defective! But there was no way we or they could have known. I am extremely grateful for the fast response and thorough professional service. Not to mention the tremendous value-they just charged me for the normal after hours service call. They have earned a customer for life. I highly recommend them. Thank you Grove!
Description of Work: Carbon monoxide detectors were indicating CO levels that were unsafe and healthy. They responded quickly to an emergency call and checked out everything very thoroughly. I highly recommend this company.

RemovalWe made a decision to remove our traditional HVAC system and install a Geothermal system with Grave HVAC. The experience was wonderful, from the professional free estimate to the installation of the entire project. This is a major renovation for the house and yard (three 350 foot wells were dug in the back yard) but it has been fully worth it. Our electricity and gas bills are phenomenally lower. Last year at this time we used 6200kw of electricity. This year during the same period we used 3100kw! Our natural gas bill went from 101 therms used in this time period last year to 11 therms this year. The Water Furnace system (model installed) works beautifully and we even installed an extra 40 gallon hot water tank that is heated from the excess energy created from the geothermal process. Mr. Grove and his crew were consummate professionals and I would recommend them to all home and business owners. Their service crew is responsive and able to answer questions promptly and professionally. The overall cost of the installation is offset by local, state and federal green energy rebates and credits. Complete Overall, we invested $5000 more into the geothermal system refit vs installing a whole new traditional HVAC system. It has already proved its worth and I highly recommend it.
Description of Work: Complete overhaul of our HVAC system. Removed two zones of heating and cooling and replaced it with a full Geothermal System. This included: Drilling three 350 foot wells in our back yard Removal and environmentally responsible recycling and disposal of old equipment Installation of the new Water Furnace system Installation of new 70 gallon and 40 gallon hot water tanks Installation of completely user friendly digital thermostat system' Rebuilding of a ceiling with master carpentry to assure that the entire geothermal tubing system is covered and doesn't look unsightly Follow-up help with providing the paperwork to the local, State and Federal agencies for green energy rebates and refunds.

From the moment I called Grove heating to the time the service was complete, I received immediate response, helpful and useful information, and quality service all around. I am thankful to have found a good HVAC company in my area, and I will most definitely use these folks again. Andrea was always on top of answering and returning my calls, and providing me with useful information including letting me know when a technician was on the way to my house. Josh, the technician that came to my house, was on-time, professional, worked efficiently, and provided valuable technical information about my issue. I thought my defrost cycle was out; in fact my fan motor was locked up. Josh also informed me about some of the details of my system, when it might need to be replaced, proper maintenance of it, etc. He told me due to the age of my system, I may only have a couple years left before needing to replace the whole thing, and gave me a ball-park estimate on that work as well. This is extremely helpful so I can begin researching systems and saving up for the expense. Josh also spent a good deal of time looking for the replacement motor for my obscure (cheap) system. While this process took a few days, the technicians at Grove stayed in contact with me to make sure I was aware that the situation was being handled. After having much trouble finding the part, they sent a manager out to take another look at the system, presumably to get more information about it to aid in finding the appropriate replacement motor. They were able to do this without me even being there, which was convenient for me. They found the correct fan motor and called me as soon as the part arrived to schedule the installation. They were available to install immediately on a Friday, but I wasn't available until Monday. They agreed to install on Monday. The same technician, Josh, came to my house to install the new motor. He was very quick and efficient; was probably only at my house for 30 minutes or less. This was my first time using Grove Heating. I am very satisfied with this company's excellent work on this particular project. They will be my first choice for future HVAC needs.
Description of Work: Diagnostic of my outdoor heat pump/compressor-- $124. Replacement of my fan motor- -$411. Total cost of everything: $535.00. This includes installation, and is a competitive price, I checked around. Once the fan motor was replaced, also checked my refrigerant pressure and the defrost cycle to ensure they were working properly.

For everything they've done: They're on-time and professional They give an honest assessment of any problems The work is done correctly They don't do unnecessary work I've had a couple instances where warranty work had to be done on the heat pump they installed at my first primary residence. They fixed the problem with no hassles and no cost to me. The best example I can give of their service: In my first primary residence, I had an ancient, forced-air electric heat system. This beast of a blow drier was problematic - especially when it was under a service contract from a different company. I brought Grove HVAC in to check the system out and start up a service contract - they corrected the problems that the other company had caused and promised to keep the system running as long as I wanted to keep it. For the next three years Grove HVAC maintained the system under a service contract and (surprise!) there were less problems than in the past. When I did finally convert to a heat pump they did an outstanding job with the new system installation. That experience with Grove HVAC sealed the deal - I use them for any project I have.
Description of Work: Over two primary residences and one rental property, I've used Grove HVAC for 3 multi-year HVAC service contracts, replacement of two heat pumps, and replacement of two hot water heaters. They have been my only provider for HVAC work since 2003.

I highly recommend using Grove Heating and A/C. Everyone in the company that my husband and I have dealt with are professional and courteous! We feel they are honest and fair with their pricing. They actually try and save people money instead of replacing unnecessary parts/units!
Description of Work: We have used Grove on more than one occasion for new water tank, AC service and plumbing.

I called around 9:30 in the morning and the phone was answered immediately by a very professional appointment person. She took details about the problems we were having and within a few minutes had made an appointment commitment for their repair folks to be at my house before noon. They arrived at 10:30. I couldn't believe it. They were courteous and listened while I told them what was going on. Within a half hour they had diagnosed the problem and were well on their way to fixing it. We couldn't be more pleased with their work and would not hesitate to call them again for plumbing needs. It's the little things that matter, so I'll share one last detail. Before they entered the house, they covered their shoes with protectors so they wouldn't get our floors dirty. That was really thoughtful.
Description of Work: Two service people came out to find out why our sump pump was running constantly. They inspected the existing sump pump and determined that that the floater valve needed to be replaced. There were also cracked mountings and a cracked PVC pipe that needed to be replaced. They offered several solutions including replacing the existing pump, which is the solution I chose.

They did a superb job, quickly, exactly per the schedule that they promised for a fair price. They have previously responded to a service call on my hot water heater. I requested service at a about 7 p.m. via the internet and they fixed it the next day.
Description of Work: Grove Heating and Cooling replaced my heatpump.

I called the office late on Monday June 6th and they were able to squeeze me in for the 1st apt on Wednesday June 8th. I was very happy with them working with my schedule. Brian Bugg was the technician. He was on-time and friendly. He determined I had a leak and refilled my coolant. We are going to see how long it takes to run out before doing a full leak test. The Train unit is only 4.5 years old at this point (not purchased from Grove). Brian also answered a furnace filter question for me during the visit. I gave the Price section a "C" b/c I thought it was fair. It was definitely not cheap.
Description of Work: My AC was not keeping the house below 78 degrees. I had coolant added.
