I scheduled a consult appointment at my home 27 Sept 2016 for 1 PM. When no one showed up for 30 minutes, (eventually he showed up 50 minutes late, even after I called and cancelled the appointment and asked them to let the person coming know). I called and cancelled the appointment. The business stated that they have an hour to arrive, but they failed to inform me of that detail when we scheduled the appointment and I doubt the VKB employee would have waited on me for 50 minutes if I were late. Very unprofessional. If they can even begin the relation on time, I suspect they were not going to do so once we began working. My personal experience was not good.

Mr. [Member Name Removed] we apologize if you did not understand the one hour window we always set for arrival time. Perhaps we could have been more clear in our explanation of it. However this is how we always operate because the day can be unpredictable when visiting multiple jobsites for various reasons through out the day. That being said, we did arrive within our one hour window which would indicate that an F rating is rather harsh. We wish you the best and would be more than happy to reshedule if you reconsider wanting VKB to look at your project. -The VKB Team
I was very impressed with the quality of work and the professionalism of Sean my designer, Jason the project manager, and the guys on the crew. The crew was on time every day and were diligent about minimizing the amount of dust and cleaning up each day prior to leaving. The project included: replacing the floor, shower and tub tile, vanity, lights, and toilet. If I had any questions or concerns, Jason and Sean were available to answer my questions or address an concerns. Please note that there were few concerns.

We are extremely happy with all of the work done by VKB who we hired to renovate our master bath. Our designer, Amanda, was wonderful and continually made suggestions throughout the process. Jason was our project manager and he was very responsive and provided daily updates. The crew did excellent work. We were so pleased with our experience that we hired them for several other projects and would definitely recommend them to family and friends.

They were excellent. Kind, professional, knowledgeable, fast, and very clean. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We needed an old fiberglass tub shower removed and a new senior safe tile shower installed. It was a small difficult space and was important to carefully save painted/stenciled wall adjoining the tub and carefully remove and reinstall some wall tiles that we wouldn't be able to match.

Our experience with VKB was excellent. We met with several contractors for our project, and only VKB was able to give us everything we wanted in our bathrooms. After waiting for so long to do this project, we did not want to compromise on our vision, and with VKB, we didn't have to. We started the process with Amanda who helped us with the design and selection of materials. She worked with us to accommodate our work schedules to come to our home to measure and do a pre-construction meeting to kickoff the project. Her team was able to complete the project during the summer months that worked for us and were flexible to work around our calendars. Jason checked in daily, and was here himself often, to make sure that all was well. The work crew were great - talented craftsmen with quality results. We pinch ourselves every time we look at our master bath - it's so nice to have the marble shower and other touches that we've always wanted! And our house guests have been thrilled with the new hall bath as well. You will be in good hands with VKB for your project.

VKB just finished a complete remodel of a hall bathroom for us in Columbia, Maryland and they did a great job. We had water damage, water leaking into our front hall--a 30 year old heavily used bathroom. The folks at VKB were upbeat, helpful, and had a can-do and realistic approach. They repaired the damage and then remade the whole bathroom into a showpiece. The fact that they have a showroom with many samples is a big positive. Junior Wizzart was the designer we worked with, who had great taste and attention to detail. Our project manager was Jason Freeman, who was tireless in keeping the project moving and keeping us informed. Inevitably there were some hiccups along the way and the VKB folks stayed cool and collected and just solved the problems. The workers who came to our home were polite, asked good questions, and worked HARD. We had some funny miscommunications since they had Spanish as their primary language, but we always felt comfortable having them around. In addition, they were careful to put down dropcloths, plastic sheeting to minimize dust, and to clean up the work area carefully at the end of every day. The most significant glitch we encountered was the six weeks it took for our vanity cabinets to be delivered. The manufacturer (Medallion) was not forthcoming with information about the timeline and I was led to expect the cabinets to appear in four weeks. Possibly VKB could have been more assertive in seeking updates and negotiating a faster turnaround. At any rate, as soon as the cabinets appeared, the VKB team returned to complete the installation. VKB has some impressive project build tracking software (BuilderTrend), but it was not used much on our project. With a larger more complex project, that could be crucial. Our project included a custom mirror suggested by Joe Zouine of VKB and built by VKB. It turned out very well (see photo) and I am grateful for the suggestion. I do not hesitate to recommend VKB and we plan to work with them again soon on another remodel project.

The process started with a VKB designer, Sean, coming to our house to look at our bathroom and provide an estimate. A few days later, we went to the VKB showroom and selected our tile with Sean's advice. Five days after that, the remodeling workers began the project. Our project lead was named Jason. VKB left a lock box on the door to our house with our key in it so that we did not have to be at home while they were working. From start to finish the project took 3 weeks. Each day when the workers arrived, they would lay down canvas on the floor from the entrance of the house all the way upstairs to the master bathroom to keep the carpet clean. They would also hang plastic covers over the furniture in our bedroom to protect them from dust. Our garage was used to store a lot of materials, equipment, and trash through the process, so we could not park our car in there. Fortunately, we had easy access to street parking. Each day, Jason would call us in the evening to make sure everything was going okay. He was always very accessible and attentive to our concerns. At the end of the project, our tile selections turned out looking great and all of the finishing details were well done. The custom glass enclosure also looked great and fit perfectly. A big thanks to Sean and Jason!

VKB just finished extensive renovations of our kitchen and two bathrooms and we highly recommend them. There are so many choices to make when renovating. Just selecting the flooring, cabinets and wall paint to be color coordinated, the cabinet handles, shower heads, etc can be overwhelming. Amanda, our project designer was terrific in guiding us through the maze and has a superb eye for color. Jason the project manager kept on top of the work and was always checking up that we were satisfied with the quality of the work. Where there were Issues he had them quickly resolved. Both of them were a pleasure to deal with and we highly recommend VKB. One thing to be aware of, replacing cheap cabinets with flexible semi-custom cabinets, over three inches in width in the drawer space are lost because of the hardware to make the shelf height adjustable.
Description of Work: Renovate kitchen: new tile floor, new ceiling lights, new cabinets with under cabinet LED lighting, new counter tops, tile back splash, new pantry, and painting of walls. Renovate two bathrooms: replace plaster board with concrete board, add waterproof sub-floor for new tile floor, install new bathtub with sliding glass doors in hall bathroom, install step-less glass shower in master bathroom, new vanity, new vanity top, new vent fans, new lighting, and fresh painting). Unexpectedly, rotten wood in bathroom floor was replaced and a hole in the bathroom drain (sewer) pipe had to be replaced.

We found GKB on Angie's List and contracted with them for our master bathroom remodel. It was a big job, requiring complete gutting of the old bathroom and also expanding two closets. We consulted with several other companies but found that the design consultant at VKB, Joe Zouine, was the most creative and offered the best design. When we visited the showroom he was able to share with us a 3-D simulation on a large computer screen of what our new bathroom would look like, down to the smallest detail. We spent a couple of hours with him choosing all of the tile and fixtures and found him easy to work with; he suggested great ideas. When time came to start the project, Jason Freeman the project manager worked closely with us on a daily basis. He called each evening to discuss the progress of work and to tell us what would happen the next day. He asked whether we had any concerns, and made sure we were happy with progress each day. He was always reachable. Elvis, the crew leader, took extraordinary care to put up plastic sheeting and lay down drop cloths each day. When you were doing demolition and moving walls it is inevitable that there will be some dust, but the team did everything possible to minimize it… which we appreciated very much. The work preceded quickly and the team asked if they could work weekends because they wanted to keep progress going forward. They were careful each day to remove debris and trash and they were friendly and respectful of family, visitors, and pets. There were no major hiccups, but every now and then the crew asked about placement of outlets, knobs for cabinets, relocating a thermostat, etc. The finished bathroom is amazing...just what we wanted and with top quality finishes and great use of space. Overall it was a very positive experience and we were glad to have discovered this company on Angie's List!
Description of Work: Master bathroom remodeling; master closet redesign and construction.
The master bathroom renovation process we experienced was frustrating and plagued with many unnecessary delays and quality control breakdowns. Having gone through numerous home improvement projects, we carefully researched companies and selected VKB Kitchen and Bath in large part because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews we read on numerous websites, including Angie’s List. Unfortunately, the company we worked with bore little resemblance to the glowing reviews we read. While we are ultimately happy with the finished product, we do not feel anyone should experience the frustrating ordeal we went through to have a bathroom renovated. Consequently, we cannot recommend VKB Kitchen and Bath. We signed a contract with VKB on March 17, 2016, to perform a complete renovation of our master bath. The project was to follow the VKB designer’s specifications, and was to be substantially completed in 2 weeks—their estimate, not ours—with minor items to be addressed in a final third week. The actual renovation began on April 19th, a week later than originally planned. From the beginning, we experienced problems. VKB gave us access to an automated project management tool to check on the job’s status, see what work was scheduled each day, see any change orders for modifications made during the renovation, and communicate any questions or concerns through its message board. VKB was to use the tool to communicate progress, work schedules, and responses to our questions. If actually used and kept current, it would have been a helpful resource to monitor the job’s status and any slippages. However, VKB rarely used it, and when it was used, it presented grossly inaccurate information (ex., noting tasks as “completed” when they had not been started or were well behind). Toward the end of the job, after numerous delays and a turnover in the subcontractor VKB hired to perform the work and the reassignment of the project manager, the lead designer—Joe—used the messaging feature more frequently to timely respond to our questions or concerns and to better inform us as to the new sub-contractor’s work schedule. Demolition of the old master bathroom took several days, primarily because most of the work was done by one worker. This pattern continued during construction of the new bathroom. Each day, several workers would show up to unload equipment, but then typically most would go to another job site, leaving just one person to handle much of the work. We were told that the crew would begin work between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. and would work full days as long as there was work to be done, yet for the vast majority of the time the initial subcontractor was involved, the crew would not show up until 10 a.m. or later, and would usually leave between 3 and 4 p.m. There were days when no one showed up and we were not notified that no one would be coming that day, despite there being ample work. The lack of sufficient workers and erratic work hours were major factors in the job quickly falling behind schedule. When we raised concerns about job slippages to VKB’s project manager, he dismissed our concerns. Serious communication issues existed between the subcontractor and VKB’s project manager which led to mistakes and delays. For example, one key design decision prior to commencement of the renovation was the removal of a ceiling and wall bulkhead to allow for more open space. The bulkhead wall contained a ventilation register which had to be removed and rerouted through a toe-kick in one of the new vanities. Due to miscommunications, the subcontractor tiled over the ventilation opening on the floor. The crew had to subsequently pull up newly-installed tile to create a ventilation path and install a new vent. However, because of the manner in which this ventilation path was constructed, the floor register did not fit properly flush with the tile floor. It still does not fit properly to this day. To be fair, issues arose which contributed to delays in the job that were not originally anticipated. For example, when the subcontractor finished the demolition, he noted that the floor was not completely level. To his credit, he took steps to fully level the floor, which took a day to complete. Additionally, in designing the new bathroom, the designer envisioned shifting the position of the toilet. As the job progressed, the subcontractor and project manager realized this would not work without extending a wall. We agreed with this change, which added another day to the project. Finally, we were scheduled to be out of town beginning in mid-May, which resulted in the crew not being able to work on the job for 10 days. Yet, had the job met the original contracted timeframes, it should have been completed nearly 2 weeks prior to our trip. When little additional progress had been made 2 weeks after our return, VKB reassigned the project manager and Joe, our lead designer, fired the subcontractor and brought in a new subcontractor to complete the bathroom renovation. However, this subcontractor had to work us into his existing jobs, putting a strain on his crew. To further complicate the new subcontractor’s job, there were numerous instances in which materials delivered were either defective or incomplete. For example, a large wood linen cabinet was unfinished on one side, resulting in VKB having to order a piece to finish the side. Additionally, the cabinet, and two vanities that were to be installed were supposed to have two side-by-side doors. When we inspected the delivered cabinet and vanities, we found that they had single doors. After noting this to VKB, we were told that the manufacturer did not make vanities that had two side-by-side doors, though they were in VKB’s design and the contract specified them. When we noted this would be problematic with respect to the linen cabinet given its placement in the bathroom, VKB said the cabinet could have side-by-side doors but it would require re-ordering them. We later found out that any re-ordering of items would require 2-to-3 weeks from the time of ordering until the items would arrive. While a 2-to-3 week delay was bad enough given the significant slippages already incurred, it turned out that VKB also misjudged other wood materials needed from this same manufacturer to complete the cabinet and vanity installation–such as trim and crown molding we had requested prior to commencement of the renovation–which resulted in another several weeks of delays. The end result of these missteps was that the new subcontractor had to pull out on two occasions for a period of 2 weeks each to allow time for new and/or replacement parts to arrive. Additionally, VKB twice sent out a separate crew to install the shower door and glass, and each time, the crew had to leave without performing the installation because work on the shower was not sufficiently complete for them to install the glass. When they were finally able to attempt the installation, they discovered an error in the manufacturing of one side of the glass. They had to reorder the side, resulting in yet another delay. Perhaps most disturbing is that the door and glass had been ready for weeks, yet no one checked them to ensure the manufacturer had completed them to specification. Other examples of this abound, including delivery of bathroom sinks and countertops which were not properly made and hardware for the cabinet and vanities, which were missing handles. Many of these problems could have been prevented or at least detected and addressed earlier had VKB had an effective process in place to ensure all materials ordered from vendors were inspected for both quantity and quality as soon as they were received. As a result of these problems, our master bathroom renovation—which was to have taken at most 3 weeks—took nearly 4 months to complete. Final work was completed on August 8th. Even at that, we ultimately settled for certain things simply to end the ordeal and move on. For example, the floor register that had been improperly installed by the initial subcontractor was never properly resolved by VKB—its solution was to cut the register bottom to force it to fit, resulting in the bottom of the register having jagged metal which is a potential hazard to anyone who lifts the register off the floor. At the time we entered into the contract, we never imagined the renovation would extend through much of the spring and summer months, during which time we would have contractors in and out of our house with our entire second floor in disarray. What we had initially looked forward to as our last major renovation became a never-ending nightmare. VKB, to its credit, tried to compensate us. Joe, and Paul, VKB’s owner, provided us with a small discount and did not charge for certain materials. Additionally, Paul extended the service warranty period. Both told us that our experience was not typical, and described steps VKB was taking to avoid the communication and quality control issues we experienced. We note that certain individuals—including Alp (ordering of selected materials and arranging for trash pick up) and Ben (shower door and glass installation), as well as the second team of subcontractors led by Henry—did their best to assist us under difficult circumstances. And we would note Joe’s efforts to step in and try to get the job back on track after we reached out to him to express our concerns, as well as his invaluable assistance in selection of floor and shower tiling, countertops, and vanities. We hope the steps VKB described to us will prevent anyone else from reliving our experience. Again, despite our frustrations, we are ultimately happy with the finished product and wish VKB and its customers well.

I first met with Junior Wizzart – the designer for our kitchen remodel project in early January 2016. Junior was very pleasant and professional. We scheduled our follow-up meeting later that week, January 14th. At the showroom we made selections for cabinet style and color, granite, flooring etc. After the meeting the proposal took a bit longer than expected to receive (emailed 3 weeks later on February 4th). On our second visit to the showroom to finalize our contract, I brought a list of questions/concerns. It seemed as though some of what we had discussed had been forgotten: under cabinet lighting, continuing the hardwood floors into the kitchen, and our backsplash selection was missing completely. We were concerned but Junior assured us he had the information but it had been missed in the proposal. One of the things in the contract I asked about was the 5-8 weeks for installation quoted in the fine print. We were told that included delivery, which would take about 3 weeks. We asked about the Angies List coupon – but were told it was already included in the price. We signed the contract that day, February 11th and paid our deposit. Our pre-installation meeting was scheduled for 10am February 18th. At 10:30am no one had arrived so we called Junior, who said that he thought our meeting was at 11am. The installation manager Pete, arrived 20 minutes later than 11am so they were not on time regardless of the scheduling. We told them that we would be traveling from April 9th-16th so would like some of the work done during that time if possible. They seemed happy with that idea and said that the cabinets should arrive either March 25th or April 1st and that they would start either March 29th or April 5th based on the delivery. We decided that we would like the rest of the level painted since we were opening up a wall and it would feel like one large space instead of a separate room. For an area of about 500 square feet, Junior gave us a quote of $2800. Since that was shockingly high, we said we would get other quotes. We had several companies come out, and eventually chose a company whose price was $875. Mind you we also received one quote of $400 but we were not convinced that the job would be good quality. Meanwhile Junior revised VKB’s paint price to $1800. That’s $1000 of “wiggle room” in the original estimate. We were told it would take 1-2 weeks for flooring to arrive, and we gave our flooring selection to Junior on March 16th. I believe he went on vacation shortly after that because the next we heard (on March 31st), installation was scheduled for April 19th. I asked what happened to starting before we left for vacation, and never received an answer. That was disappointing since living through 1 less week of a remodel would have been great. On April 6th VKB delivered all of the cabinets and flooring to our house, taking up the majority of our main level. That area of our house became storage for the next 2 weeks, until the job finally started on April 19th, 3 weeks later than planned. The job started out fine. Demo only took about a day, and then drywall and electrical were next. The project manager Jason was nice and professional. He would call each day and let us know the plan for the following day. He always asked if we had questions or concerns and said that he was here to help. By the end of the week they were ready for the hardwood floor installation. The floor installers arrived with a crew of 4. As I talked with them about the job I made sure they knew that we wanted the hardwood laid “long-wise” from the door, which makes the room look bigger. I was informed that my joists run that way, and that the flooring must be run perpendicular to the joists for support. I was shocked that they were about to put down the hardwood directly opposite of what we had told Junior several times without even letting us know or offering solutions. I did a quick internet search to see if we had other options, because we REALLY wanted the hardwood to run the way we had said all along. Come to find out, it can be run parallel, but it is recommended to reinforce the subfloor with an additional layer of plywood for support. The foreman got on the phone with VKB and eventually the installation crew left since we would not agree to have the floor installed the “wrong” way. On Monday (April 25th) morning, I met with the installation manager Pete. He said they could put down a layer of plywood to reinforce the subfloor so the hardwood could be laid as we liked. I got a price quote from Junior later that day - $3705. For less than 500 square feet of plywood. We were shocked by the price. We figured 20 sheets of plywood costs less than $400. Even with other materials like screws, glue, rosin payer, etc that’s still over $3000 in labor charges. For a crew of 4 working 1 day that means they’re making nearly $100/hour. Considering they were going to lay the HARDWOOD floor in one day with 4 guys, this would be far less labor since the pieces are 4x8ft instead of only 3.5 inches wide! After questioning the astronomical price, VKB lowered it to $3000. We were still not having it. The manager of the company called and said they could do the job for $2600 and that was them making no profit, and it would take 2 days. We declined. We found another flooring company to come and lay the subfloor – they brought 3 guys and were done in 4 hours, INCLUIDING moving all of the cabinets, furniture, and flooring that were on the level so they could do the job. We paid them $1200 and they were happy to do the job and made more than a fair wage. After a week long delay due to the subfloor debacle, the job restarted. They laid the hardwood floors in the desired direction Tuesday May 3rd. They did not order enough stair noses and so our lower steps were treacherous for the next 2-3 weeks. Cabinets were next: They installed one cabinet wrong and had to take it out and do it again after building a support box. On Friday May 6th all cabinets were installed. After inspection we realized that BOTH of the 2 corner cabinets were not what we ordered. In fact, in our kitchen were the 2 opposite options of our order. Junior came out on May 7th to see the problem cabinets. He was an hour late to that meeting. Thankfully, he admitted his mistake and said that he would get us the cabinets we ordered, but it would take 2-3 weeks. We decided that for the money we were paying, we wanted what we ordered even though it would delay the job further. Somehow they had one of the correct lower corner cabinets in stock and it was delivered that week. They came to measure for the countertops May 12th but evidently botched the measurements and had to come back on May 14th to clarify everything. The countertops went in May 17th. By Friday May 20th all of the “big pieces” to the remodel were done. One guy came for a few hours the following week to re-hang a closet door, and then they stopped coming. We were waiting on the upper corner cabinet. We assumed it was ordered May 9th and would be in within the 2-3 weeks (May 30th) as Junior had told us but they did not bring and install it until June 4th. So for 2 weeks no additional work was done but our entire main level was still unusable because they had not removed the materials and moved our furniture back. We also decided that we wanted a thin wooden panel installed under our peninsula to complete the look. At this point we knew that any ‘job changes” would likely be priced astronomically high, and joked that they would charge us $1000 for the 20 square foot piece of thin veneer wood. Price came back…$1665. Shortly after that the price was corrected to $720. We did not agree to the price, but Junior ordered it anyway. We later figured out that they needed that piece to finish the base of one of the other cabinets so had to order it anyway. Eventually they agreed to install the panel at no charge. On June 14th they installed the panel – completely crooked. At first Jason tried to argue that it was not straight because the wall wasn’t straight (a wall that they built mind you) which was completely false. After a frustrating discussion, they agreed to fix it. I came home after work later and it was not fixed. At this point I was so fed up with this company that I didn’t even want to deal with them anymore. The crooked panel was fixed on June 23rd. We paid final payment to the company despite an ongoing dispute with them about our new hardwood stairs. The lip of the stairs (called step nose) was installed and the color did not match the rest of the floors or stair treads. That dispute is still pending resolution. Overall the entire remodeling process was a nightmare. VKB purports themselves to be a top quality company, but our experience was just mistake after mistake, and issue after issue. Communication with our project manager Jason was incredibly difficult and it seemed like their internal communication was non-existent as what we told Junior did not get communicated to Jason and what we told Jason did not get communicated to the crew doing the work. Often my text messages went unanswered and my questions and issues unsolved for weeks on end. We started this process in early January and it is now nearly August. This review was long and detailed but even it leaves out the many other small issues that we had and have with this company. Most have been resolved but we felt like a quality company would have prevented them or fixed them without us having to ask. When I tell people about our experience with the kitchen, I always say that I “did my homework” on this company and that they have an “A” rating with Angies List and great reviews, and so on. That is perhaps why our experience has been so frustrating. We were expecting an “A” experience, and VKB did not deliver.
Description of Work: Completely demo 9x12 80's style cheaply constructed kitchen. Remove old laminate flooring and carpet on entire level as well as stairs and landing. Remove wall between kitchen and dining room. Install new maple hardwood floors throughout level. We contacted VKB because of their rating on Angie's list. Our experience with VKB was wonderful. Jason was our project manager and he was very responsive and proactive with everything that needed to be done. He called every evening to go over the work that had been done that day and to discuss the upcoming plan. The workmanship is impeccable and the guys took a lot of pride in their work. They were always on time, polite, hard working, and cheerful. Thanks, VKB, for a beautiful bathroom!
When we moved to a new home our plan was to completely remodel the kitchen. We wanted to take down a wall between the kitchen and the Dining room behind. In addition we wanted two windows added, new hardwood flooring, new cabinetry and a lot more! We contacted VKB Kitchen and Bath once again based on our previous experience working with the same company on our previous home. We were very impressed by the great reviews the first time around and were even more impressed by the work previously done. We have just bought our new home (back in January) and Junior spent three hours with us during the consultation listening to our ideas and advising about practicalities. He was very realistic with us from the start; advising us not to stretch ourselves and get into debt with multiple projects in our home, but to focus on one at a time to allow time to save in between. He suggested we get a couple of other estimates for our own peace of mind - his honesty and integrity was refreshing from the start! Junior informed us from the start of our kitchen renovation project that quality work takes time. We were very naive about the amount of work that goes into a kitchen remodel, but having watched the incredible transformation - and all the stages in-between (including complete removal of dry wall and ceiling) - we are so grateful for Junior's perfectionist work ethic, and creativity. He is more than just a designer. He is capable of advising about design nuances that will ensure a superb finished product. We were constantly impressed by Junior's talent; there seems to be nothing that he cannot do. It transpired that the wall between our Dining room and the kitchen was load-bearing (our home is 45 years old, and Junior warned us from the start that he wouldn't know the exact scope of the work until he removed the wall). This created a some additional work, but Junior's solution resulted in an incredible addition to our kitchen: a gorgeous wooden beam to hide the support structure which replaced the load-bearing wall, and which fitted perfectly into our kitchen design. Some examples of VKB going above and beyond: Spending hours with us one evening to get the electronic design right for our kitchen prior to commencing the work Driving for hours to and from Granite suppliers to select the perfect countertop eventhough they have an impressive selection in their showroom just to ensure the slabs was big enough for our island so that there would be no seems when it was fitted Walking our dog in the day when we were out Adding a gas line outside for our grill whilst he was moving the gas line for the double oven Helping us with multiple DIY projects elsewhere in the house when our expertise failed (putting up blinds, light fittings, wood trim, shelves) Working longer hours than any contractor I have ever heard of Working weekends Getting to know our style better than we do, and therefore picking out better tiles and window casements that our original efforts We found everyone to be honest and extremely hard-working crew and just about every we encountered at the showroom has also been great and there is always a sense of humor going around in that showroom. We very much enjoyed being there. Their project manager Jason will not leave a job until the customer is 100% satisfied, and his standards and expectations for his own work are very high. Although, VKB's business model is the customer is always right, and to provide excellent customer service, we learned to be realistic with time expectations - great quality work takes time and it is not productive to rush them. Our finished kitchen was 1000% worth our patience to ensure that VKB was able to get the best parts from the best suppliers.
Description of Work: New kitchen remodel on a new home we just purchased that had a very dated and not so functional layout.

We found VKB from a list of remodelers here Columbia, MD. Since it has a high online rating, we decided to go ahead and hire the company to work on our bathroom. To my surprise, the quality of the job was superb and the crew was fun to work with. Jason Freeman, the Project Manager, didn’t let me down. He is always there checking on the status, before and after the work is done, making sure everything is done as planned. For design issues, I always rely on Amanda, the senior designer, for her input. Thanks to her valuable ideas; it sure relieved me from stressful decisions. Overall, I too give the company 2 thumbs up. You will never go wrong with VKB. Armando
Description of Work: The condition of our shower is unusable. The job done by the previous contractor caused damage to the lower level of the house due to water leak. Looking for a good company is not an easy task. We needed somebody who we can trust and can provide excellent workmanship at a reasonable amount of time and cost.

Love my master bath -- one item remaining to be completed, but LOVE how it has turned out. Joe was our designer, Jason was our project manager -- from start to finish, felt like VKB was very responsive to what we wanted to do with our bathroom, and addressed all questions throughout the entire process. The guys who came in to do the work were great -- professional and hard working. Work took longer than expected, but everything was communicated daily so we knew exactly how things were going to progress. Will definitely use again again for future projects.
They took our vision and made it a reality with great workmanship, great quality of materials, and enhanced our design ideas by adding a half-bath in the common area and a butler's pantry. They offered great design enhancements and were always thinking about making sure we had a superior finished product. As you know, there are many choices in tile, cabinets, style of cabinets, countertops, and the list goes on and on with all of the decisions you need to make to get finish a large basement. VKB provided good service and quality workmanship, and guided us through the design process. We had our first party in the basement a few weeks ago and everyone was complementary of the basement and the design elements - and we can't wait to spend more of our summer days in our light-filled modern farmhouse feeling basement!
Description of Work: VKB turned our unfinished basement into a wonderful space for living and entertaining.
We contacted VKB because of the great reviews they received from Angie's List. We met with designer/salesman, Joe Zouine, who spent a long time with us going over our wish list and our budget. He was very easy to work with and had ideas that clicked with what we liked. He came to our house to go over detailed plans and made excellent suggestions and was able to give us a price that was under our budget. The amount did rise a bit but was not unreasonable because we asked for more work to be done. Joe visited our house several times after the work began to give us further suggestions about such things as tile placement and niche issues in the bathroom. He was helpful and creative. The work was done in two stages; the in-law apartment first so we were able to use the kitchenette and living area while the bigger kitchen and eating area were being done. This was a huge help in that we didn't have to eat out every night since we could use the kitchenette. Jason Freeman was our project manager and was eager to see that things were going well and that we were pleased. He was very responsive and easy to reach by phone or text. He kept saying he wanted us to happy and called us each night to go over the day's work and ask if we had any questions or concerns. Most days he dropped by our house to bring materials, trouble shoot or to check on things and was always upbeat and cordial. The workmen were professional and polite at all times. The foreman, Claudio Loza, was amazing in his construction ability. He was able to get the work done, supervise others and to problem solve on the spot. Many hours of over time were put in to move the project along. The end product is beautiful and well done. We are very pleased by the process and the outcome and have already recommended them to a neighbor.
Description of Work: They remodeled an in-law suite including a kitchenette and a bathroom, and completely remodeled the main kitchen

Joe told us the time frame, including when we would need to choose different materials, the schedule of workers, and everything we needed to know to make it easier on us. He also was available for any concerns or to verify information. He has impeccable taste so at times we left decisions to him. Jason oversaw the work. He was fantastic. He pushed to finish things on time even when we made changes during the reno. They did finish the work on time, in budget, and the kitchen looks spectacular. It is far beyond what we expected. We entertain frequently and it has the "ooooh, aaaahh" factor to be sure. Everyone hangs out in the kitchen. I cannot thank them enough for the great job they did. Our money was well spent. Call them if you want the job done right!
Description of Work: Joe talked over the remodel with us, came up with designs, presented the different designs with costs and helped walk us through the process.

I have never been so disappointed with an Angie's List company. It's hard to believe this company got all these glowing reviews, because most of my experience was the opposite. VKB sent a contactor who was unprofessional, made promises he did not keep, cut corners and did not work more than 4-6 hours on any day and was not even there on some days. He came with one assistant who quit after 2 days, and the contractor was unable to replace him. VKB had initially assured me my job would be completed in 2 weeks. As it became very clear that with this contractor there was no way he could finish in 2 weeks, I let VKB know my concerns. For 2 weeks, although they kept assuring me we were going to finish on time, they did nothing but make excuses, and of course point out that my written contract did NOT say 2 weeks. Finally, after 2 weeks they replaced him with a competent crew. This crew found mistakes that had to be corrected as well as completing the rest of the job. Then at the final inspection, the bathroom fixtures were so ugly they looked tarnished, but turns out they hadn't even cleaned the fixtures. My project coordinator was very defensive and seemed surprised I expected it to be clean. (He finally cleaned it) About the only good thing was the person who put in all tiles. He was obviously a professional who took pride in his work and made sure the job was done right. He was a sub-contractor and not a VKB employee. VKB seems very concerned about their Angie's List reviews and in fact Paul called me last week about a review he "thought" was mine. It was not. If they had paid more attention to my concerns with their awful contractor, instead of Angie's List, perhaps I'd be writing a different review. At the end they offered me a very small discount as an apology. It in no way made up for my experience.

Thank you for taking the time to detail your experience with us. I completely understand the frustrations that we both had to face with our main crew leader that was assigned to the job and have taken appropriate action to make sure this doesn't happen again. We don't agree with an overall rating of a C but of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The crew leader broke promises that he made during this process such as coming to work on Sundays when we don't normally work and leaving early where he should have stayed a little longer but the quality of work was outstanding and we conducted our selves in a professional matter throughout this process. I even reached out on my day off when I first found out that we were a few days behind schedule. I immediately assigned a new crew and everything was finished to your satisfaction. I offered to visit with you to do a final walk through but you declined. All the best to you and hope you enjoy your space for years to come. Thank you again from all of us here at VKB

VKB Kitchen and Bath just completed renovating the kitchen in our home. I can’t say enough good about VKB Kitchens and Baths. From our first meeting with Junior and Sean to our last walk through with Jason, they wanted nothing more than to please us with an updated kitchen. After Sean and Junior came to the house to find out exactly what we wanted to have done and do measurements we met at the showroom. Junior guided us through the design decisions as Sean did the mockup on the computer to show us what the finished kitchen would look like. We were there about three hours, but we were never rushed even when I changed my mind on somethings. We selected VKB to do the job first because of their knowledge and professionalism and second because they could do the entire job, from demolition to paint completion, no subcontractors. Jose and his crew were very professional and always polite. They were very cautious and put tarps down on the carpet areas and down the staires and cleaned up after themselves everyday. They were hard workers and are an asset to VKB, the quality of their work was superb. We were disappointed in the project manager that we were given. But VKB being a customer focused company were very responsive and assigned Jason to oversee the project’s completion. We love our new kitchen, thank you Junior, Sean, Jason, Jose and crew. Bette Midler once said “People are not the best because they work hard. They work hard because they are the best.” And you guys were the "best".

The experience was great from beginning to end. The sales and design team were very friendly and helpful from the start. They were patient in helping me finalize layout details and picking the materials. They were easy to get in touch with and very professional. Once the work started, the project manager Jason gave me constant updates on the work, which I appreciated. They were very careful with the work, and the new kitchen looks great and functions well.

I am thrilled with my new kitchen that VKB Kitchen & Bath recently installed! The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient. My designer, Joe, expertly designed a kitchen that fit my desires and my budget. My kitchen is perfect ? it is up-to-date and utilizes previous ?dead space?. My project leader, Jason, did a professional job managing my installation. He was available to me at all times and provided daily updates. Jason was patient and attentive to my questions or concerns and any problems were resolved quickly. Jose, the crew leader, showed his skill in managing others and problem solving (issues due to my house's construction). The crew was trustworthy, efficient, skilled and flexible (they asked my preferences when there were options). VKB Kitchen & Bath receives all top ratings from me ? they are honest, don't cut corners, and very skilled. They are a company that I trust and I will go back to them again for future home improvements.

Before I selected VKB to remodel my master bath, I met with and received estimates from five other contractors. After reviewing proposals and comparing, I arrived at the conclusion that VKB provided the best quality materials and value for the money. I knew absolutely nothing about designing, but Junior Wizzart, their design project manager, walked me through the entire process--- the overall design, vanity style selection, countertop, tile, floor, shower glass, fixtures--everything. He promised that the project would take about two-and-a-half weeks, and the project coordinator, Alp Aydin, did everything possible to ensure that it was finished on time. The work crew were extremely professional and knowledgable, with an incredible work ethic. They arrived between 8 and 9 a.m. every day, and worked until that day's specified task was complete, sometimes until 6:30 p.m. Their work was precise and very neat, and they always covered my stairs and floors with dropcloths and tented my bedroom with plastic. When the project was nearly finished, I decided that I did not like the color of the quartz countertop I had selected (my own fault--not VKB's). Alp Aydin, the project coordinator, bent over backwards to replace it quickly and at a very reasonable price. I am thrilled with my new bathroom, and I would recommend VKB, not only for their professionalism, but for their honesty and integrity.
