My experience overall went very well. The staff was friendly and professional. They were prompt and called us 2 hours in advance to let us know when they would arrive. The pricing was comparable and better than other merchants. I would highly recommend to others. UPDATE: A year later, we discovered (through an ice bath shower) a manufacturer's defect in the heater - no fault of Ehrhardt. It was a little hard to get ahold of them at first. But when they did come out, they thought it odd too that a year-old heater went dead. After the called the manufacture, they agreed it was defective. They installed a new one at no charge, which you'd expect them to charge for at least labor since the heater fail wasn't their fault - but not a cent changed hands. Not too shabby on their part!

I was given an arrival time of between 9 and 11 am. Mike arrived about 9:30 and was able to go straight down to the basement to look at the leaky toilet. He told me that there was able to fix it and went out to his truck and came back with supplies and parts. about 30 -45 minutes later the toilet was fixed and working better than before. He also tightened the toilet seat, which was an added bonus. He was very prompt and professional.

There was a joint leaking gas on the line into my house. All work was outside and above ground. The previous owner had also installed a split for a line to hook up a natural gas grill outside. I had the plumber remove the t-split and redo all the joints to get them sealed. The work took about 40 minutes and was done as requested with no issues. My only complaint was the $150 charge, which I felt was expensive but I did not shop around for estimates.

I thought the whole unit would need replacing which would cost much more, but the plumber was able to fix it quickly and inexpensively! He called prior to appt., as requested. He came in and assessed the problem and was quick to offer the best solutions and was fast in doing the job with excellent results. He was very friendly and professional. Excellent. I will always call Erhardt first!

There were a number of challenges to making this 'simple' request a reality. First the pipe from valve to bib was sloped up, not level or down. The plumber managed to get it to slope slightly down and out to drain. Framing was an issue, too. But with attention to detail and an extra 9" of 2X4 the framing properly supported the plumbing. All of this required far more access to the plumbing and necessitated additional dry wall removal. However, when done, I was very pleased with the match of replacement dry wall.
Description of Work: To start, the plumber showed up on time. He was professional, and friendly. I had requested a change of hose bib and an easier way to shut off water to the bib. He explained what he was doing, and why. He installed a new, all season bib and changed the shut off valve from a gate to a ball valve.

I called with a sewage backup on a Sunday night. At 7:00 am Monday I spoke to the owner and by 9:00 am they were here and worked all day. They kept me informed about the problem, progress, and potential issues. Rather than immediately call for a backhoe with the disruption and cost that would entail, they chose to fix the problem in a straightforward and efficient way. They are the most professional plumbers with whom I've ever dealt.

I was actually not around when then the plumber came by; my 20 year old son was. I was amazed how much we were able to figure out without an in person estimate. There were questions about the venting, which were resolved when I emailed them an image. Payment was done via phone, too. I needed to talk to the owner in order finalize the work that needed to be done. I also asked if they could fix some minor plumbing issues when they were out. The guy said that they could probably do some of that when the water heater was draining and could come back later and finish the rest. And we talked about a possible time to come out, either the later that same day or the following day. I said that either would be fine. The next afternoon I got a call from one of the ladies to schedule the appointment, and at that point it was too late to come out that day. But they were out the next day. Also lost in translation was the extra work. I'm a bit disappointed that the communication about the extra work was not better understood, but think that I should have addressed that when she called back to schedule.. This may sound critical but it's not meant to be. I was impressed with the office staff and the owner: their courtesy, knowledge, professionalism, and customer service. I've got them coming back in a few days to wrap up the smaller chores. Based on what I researched here, the price seemed on the high end but within the range I would expect. It's so hard to gauge price unless you are quoting apples to apples, and Ehrhardt was the only one that I talked to that go through all of the requirements (e.g., venting) to give me a complete price.

Had an appointment for between 0930 and 1030. Called at 1100 to ask when Mike would be out. The contact person said she'd call and find out where he was. We got a call back around 10 minutes later saying that Mike was still in Virginia meeting with an Inspector. Would have been nice to have known this ahead of time as we have other things to do during the day and this was holding us up. This is the technically the third time we've attempted to get an estimate for replacing out plumbing. We had them out on April 3rd, 2013 to fix a leaky copper pipe. Nick came out and did a great job which they usually always do. We asked Nick about an estimate for replacing all the copper plumbing and he told us that someone from the office would contact us in the next couple days. Weeks went by and no one contacted us. So, we contacted them around the second week of May and scheduled Mike to come out May 15th between 0800 and 0900. Well, we got a call that morning (5/15/13) around 1000 that there was an emergency and they had to re-schedule which is what we did for today (3/22/13). Usually their work is very good but these last couple times make me want to look for a new plumber. Their professionalism is seriously lacking in that they cannot keep their appointments!

Shutoff valve for outside front faucet leaked profusely after opening.. Sent 2 emails, which received no response.. First phone message received no response.. Finally connected with second phone call on a Wednesday.. I explained the leaking faucet problem.. I also indicated that I had gotten their name from Angie's list... First available appointment was Monday morning.. Technician arrived at 0745 hours. I had prepared the work area in advance by relocating several electrical wires, removing the closet doors, and providing a step ladder.. The technician was extremely quick, efficient, and highly professional.. The work appeared very clean.. By 0830 hours, he was gone.. Not sure if I received the stated Angie's List discount..

I had 30 year old Moen pull-out faucets. One was frozen in position. I'd already had problems with a similarly designed shower unit two years before. The previous plumber (who clearly has a different business model than Ehrhardt Brothers) said that these units couldn't be repaired. He sold me an expensive replacement for shower. Acting on that, I purchased three new faucets at Home Depot and made an appointment for 4/24. The first appointment failed. Initially, I was repositioned from first to second within the day. When the plumber failed to appear when promised, I phoned the office only to learn that he was stuck at the first site. While he obviously should have phoned to tell me, I rescheduled for 5/1. In the end, Nick was worth waiting for. He installed the new faucets and adjusted shower pressure. Interestingly, he said that parts are readily available for Moen (and he wondered why I didn't go that route). I'm extremely happy with the result (Ehrhardt Brothers honored the 10 percent Angie's List coupon for new customers -- applies only to time). As I have two other jobs (which Nick photographed with his cell phone to research parts), I plan to have him return. After years, I've finally found a plumber that I can rely on. I would certainly recommend this vendor.

This plumber charged me for 6.5 hours of labor, $975, or $150.00 per hour. He also charged me $75 for 1.5 hours of a helper. That comes to $164.54 per hour. When I expressed concern, he "reduced it to $893. That still comes to about $125.84 per hour. This is highway robbery. Plumbers never charge that much per hour. NEVER. He promised a great deal, below the $125 rate. He lied. The amount came to just that. And he took FOREVER to do the work. I will NEVER hire this cheat again. He has little honor. I should have known better, but this person never specified an hourly charge, then charged way too much. I had Honest Abe plumbers come and they did work much better, for a lower cost they specified before hand. Shame on Ehrhardt. If he has honor, he should recalculate his cheating and pay back the excess. This irked me long enough that I just had to warn others about this plumber.

Response from Ehrhardt Brothers Quality Plumbing, Inc
We were called a few days before Thanksgiving about installing a faucet and vanity. I arrived to look at the job and found much, much more. At first I declined to finished the job, due to multiple problems, caused by the lack of planning, or design, by previous plumbers, or the homeowner. (I'll never know.). I then explained some of the existing issues, and why I didn't want to get involved. The homeowner then told me of the many family members coming for the long holiday weekend, and how he only had the master bath working, and would I please re-consider. (I foolishly said yes.) This is a small (3) piece hall bath with a mirrored back to back condition with a nicely finished master bath behind it. The tub was set and tiled with a slab of granite over the tile. (I was told this was due to the temporing valve, volume controls, body sprays, spout and the hand held being roughed in incorrectly by the other "plumber"). I was then handed over a dozen opened boxes of mixed trim parts, (escusions, handles, adapters, sleeves, etc). which I had to lay out on the living room floor to try and figure out what went where. (There were multiple different trims, and no paperwork.) As it turned out, some of the rough in parts were still wrong, The holes were not drilled exactly right, and after a internet search, I found out that the OLD Grohe rough in valve is not compatible with the new trim that was purchased. (So much for a useable tub for now.) The toilet was roughed in too close to the wall also, the 1" thick marble sanitary base with the flange already set and well below the floor. The space was also less than the 30" code minimum. .....and then there is the vanity. A wall hung European heavy duty cabinet with drawers on both sides, and shelves in the middle, with a granite top and a vessel type bowl. A no name special faucet and drain assembly. (Made in China), that came with the vanity. It came with (3) special brackets that could only be mounted in specific places and only a 7 x 9 space to put the trap and valves AND the height had to be perfect. Not to cut the shelves. The rough in was wrong and already dry walled. The backing boards were in the wrong place and all fittings, (with the vanity behind) were stacked, and multiple street fittings were used. The drain could not be raised or lowered without taking apart the vanity behind it. The water lines had to be re-located in the wall and drywall replaced. When we left, the sink and toilet were working, and the customer needed to order parts for the tub. I felt sorry for him and gave him a 20% discount off the rate I quoted him, prior to starting the job. He then wrote me a check and thanked me for my work. Now, 5 months later, he writes a fictitious complaint. 11 months and 3 plumbers later the job is finisher? I'm the one who's slow?? Another lesson learned. Usually nothing good happens, when you take over a job when the homeowner is the acting General Contractor, and you're the 2nd or 3rd plumber. Mike Ehrhardt Ehrhardt Brothers Plumbing

Gunk from the kitchen garbage disposal / drain ended up all over the basement laundry room floor, and backed up the drain pipe into the utility sink. It was all really gross and not at all obvious where the problem was, other than close to the base of the main drain outlet into the foundation. The scheduler I spoke with did not really understand what the problem was, because I wasn't sure and it was difficult to explain. So, when Nick arrived he was expecting to clear a clog under the kitchen sink. He quickly realized that the problem was bigger and explained that he may not have a powerful or long enough snake and that he may have to call for more help if that equipment turned out to be needed. Fortunately, it wasn't. Nick got to work immediately to start diagnosing the problem. He systematically worked through the diagnosis, and found the blockage. Fixing it required that he cut out a section of the pipe, catch the torrent of back up water and gunk that released as a result, remove the horrible gag inducing smelly debris (no small feat), replace the catch valve, and repair the pipe. he did all of that in less than 2 hours, checked in with his boss to verify his strategy and what needed to be done, and cleaned up everything very nicely. He wasn't worried about our dogs, either, and was happy to meet them. And, we got a 10% discount for finding the, on Angie's List!! We will use Ehrhardt for our plumbing from now on.

Although I was a new customer and it wasn't an emergency, they scheduled the visit for the next day, at 1:30pm. And then they called me around 11:30 that day to ask if it was okay if they came some earlier, which it was, and they did. Nick was very friendly and professional. Because of a difference in connectors between the old and the new valve, he had to replace a small section of pipe, which went smoothly but did necessarly add to the time and labor cost to get the job completed. He also noticed and tightened one of the shutoff valves around the same area that was leaking a bit. Since the job was completed, the problem is solved and there are no signs of any leaks or other indicators of anything less than quality workmanship. The total bill was $238, which was $88 for the new PRV and $150/hour labor for one hour. The hourly labor rate seems high to me, but that may well be the norm, I just don't know, and really I think he was at it more than exactly 1 hour, so I really have no complaints. And my actual bill was $214 because of their AL coupon of 10% off for new customers.
Description of Work: The pressure reducing valve (PRV) at the water main inlet to the house needing replacing. It was making wierd noises and the water pressure was pulsating, so it was a just a matter of time until it failed, as it had been getting steadily worse for several months.

They worked for 4 or 5 hours. They were prompt and did a really good job. They cleaned up good after themselves. They had to cut open a drain line so it was pretty nasty work. They did a good job making sure the house stayed clean and keeping the nasty crap out of the house and into the trash. The woman in the office was pleasant. They were very responsive. They were supposed to show up the day after the big storm and they let me know they were dealing with a lot of emergencies and we rescheduled.

Called in the morning to schedule emergency service. Pipe had burst in ceiling of basement. I scheduled for 1-3pm. They called at 1 to say that they would be late. I called at 5 to see if they were still coming. Three more calls by 6pm and no return call or communication from them. No call, NO SHOW. Absolutely unacceptable for a burst pipe in a ceiling! We weren't calling for a clogged toilet or something. Incredible. First review I have ever written.. we are that upset.

Response from Ehrhardt Brothers Quality Plumbing, Inc
First of all I apologize for the missed call. We are a small company, but as you can see from other reviews we take care of our customers and rarely miss a call. If we are unable to keep them in "their" time frame we tell them up front so they can call someone else. April called early Tuesday morning, (for someone else at another address) and said there was a "dripping" pipe in the basement. We informed her that because of an already busy morning and (2) emergency calls in front of her (a sewer main stoppage and a flooding water heater leak) we would not be able to get to her friend's "emergency" in the am. She thanked us and said she would call "around" for someone else to come in the morning. Hours later April called back and we told her late afternoon would be the soonest, somewhere between 1 and 3. We would call back to confirm exact time. All techs were tied up until after 6pm and no one called her back. Not an excuse, just an explanation. The customer will be offered a "Free" Service Call as an apology. Michael P. Ehrhardt, President

I had a lot of little jobs and one major job. I had a leak in the kitchen faucet, a leak in a valve near the pump, a clogged back up valve, a problem with the wax seal in a toilet and the major issue was the sump pump that needed to be replaced. Mike made sure he did all the work in a timely way to keep the cost down. The reason for the B rating was that one of his helpers use a good bath towel to clean up the putty around the toilet, the hose attached to the pump faucet was left on loosely so when I turned it on I got soaked and Mike never followed up with the information about the back up sump pump. Considering the amount of work done, I think of these as little things but I could not give an A rating for that reason. Would I recommend them? Yes absolutely.

The person I spoke with to set up the appointment was friendly and helpful. They were busy after Thanksgiving with their main service man out for an extended time, but I had no problem setting up an appointment within a few days. (I did not have an emergency situation because we have more than one bathroom for taking showers, so my family could avoid using the leaking bathtub.) I received a call the morning of the appointment indicating that he would be out a little bit later than planned (at 9am instead of 8am), but it was no problem because I had made arrangements to work from home. Mike, the owner, actually came out to do the repair work and was very professional and explained everything that he did. Figuring out what was causing the leak and making the repair took a little over an hour. I will definitely use Ehrhardt again for future plumbing repairs and maintenance.
Description of Work: Had an upper floor tub leak that had dripped through the main floor ceiling. Mike was able to troubleshoot the problem and repair the leak, which was not clearly apparent when just inspecting the tub. He did have to cut an access hole in the drywall behind my bathroom (in the master bedroom closet) to examine the tub's drain and pipes. He was also very good about keeping the area clean, which was much appreciated since cutting drywall can be messy. Plus, he checked out a problem with a shower stall in my other bathroom and provided advice on how to deal with a caulking problem.
