It was the worst experience i have ever had with a contractor. They quoted us a price and left out certain things that they should have included. They painted over things like nails and electrical plugs. The painting was so bad and there were swifts all over. I had to get them to come back. I had to use a razor blade to get tons of paint off the glass. They were sloppy and lazy and were at least 2 hours late everyday. I went with them because they had good reviews on Angie's list.

This was one of the best experiences I've had with a service provider in the DC area. The very competitive quote was provided in a timely manner, the crew showed up within 5 minutes of when they were scheduled and they did top notch work. Post-job cleanup was performed satisfactorily and I had no complaints about the work. Would definitely hire DPS again.

The guys did a wonderful job. They went above and beyond what was needed. The work was completed quickly. The walls looks great and except that we had to move the small things out of the bedrooms after they were finished they put what we couldn't take out back in their original place again. You really could not tell that anyone had been in there a few hours before painting. Definition painting has done work for us for years. We couldn't ask for a better company to work with us not just doing the actual job but giving suggestions as to the best color paint and what will work best for our home.

Great. The painters were on time, professional, very nice and did excellent work. We will definitely use them in the future.

The fellows were very considerate and kept busy. They were also clean and did a great job of picking up afterward.

The service was fine. He removed wallpaper in a bathroom. He did what I needed to have done in a shorter amount of time than either of us anticipated.

It went very well. Joel stopped by to make sure all was okay; Karen was very helpful in the office; Lionel, the crew foreman, was excellent to work with. Our happiness with the paint job was their primary concern.

We are very pleased with their work. We plan to use them again and would recommend them to friends.

Awful. When I first contacted the company I was excited because they were going to come out right away to look at what I needed done. The man that came out was very knowledgeable and told me what I needed to have there for the job. They told me how many cans of paint to get. When they actually came out to paint the man who originally came out was not with them. One spoke no english and the other very little english; however, I would have assumed they would have known what to do. When they started painting with out repairing the holes in the wall I knew something was not right. I sent an email to the company saying I purchased everything they told me to get and they were not patching the wall. The company call them and they started patching. After patching, although I bought the sanders, they didn't sand. They just painted over the patch. In the other room I went from a dark green to a royal red. When the owner first came out he said, they would have to put a primer on the dark green, so I purchase the primer. They started to paint without putting the primer on, so I had to contact the company again. Because they wasted the first day they had to come back the next day to finish up. I had to buy more paint because they had used up so much because they did not prime the wall. They also put the wrong color in the bathroom so they used up paint that was for the bedroom. The next day they came they put primer over the paint they put on the day before, another run to the store for more paint they finally finished. There was paint all over, the carpets, stair railing, they didn't sand any of the patch work and I had to go back not once, but twice to get more paint because they didn't know what they were doing. I now have to hire someone to come repaint.

Great consultation with Joel regarding paint, finish and colors. Daily clean up by crew was excellent. Joel and team were responsive to concerns and everything was addressed with the customer in mind.

They finally called with excuses they didn't know the workers didn't show up ! Wasted time getting on theirs" schedule " and was promised would start and end on time as promised. Very disappointed! They also expected me to purchase my own patio door that they would install .

They were fantastic! Joel operates a wonderful business. He was incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and professional. The team of three painters couldn't have been better! The quality of their work was amazing. They worked so hard to complete the work in a 12 hour period -- and they didn't sacrifice quality. I loved working with Joel, Lionel, Luis, and Antonio. Would definitely hire them again.

Very disappointing. I spoke with the company owner in person to spec out the job and we agreed on a price for additional work beyond the coupons I bought from Angie's List. The owner was very nice about scheduling the work beyond when the coupon was supposed to have expired. However the workers were not as kind. I asked them to put all hardware they took off of the wall in a bag. Instead they dropped them on the floor, stepped on them and broke them. I spoke with the workers about what they needed to do since the owner never showed up after the initial meeting to plan the job. The workers assured me that they knew what to do and understood my instructions. Unfortunately that did not prove to be true. I called the owner but did not get a call back. When I finally did speak with him I explained the problems (broken fixtures, dripped paint, painted a wall they were told not to paint, painting over outlets, only one coat of paint on the ceiling instead of the 2 I was paying for, in each room there several spots where the primer was still visible despite the supposed 2 coats of paint, etc) and asked him to come to my house to see it for himself. He refused to come. I said I did not want to pay for the room where they painted a wall they were not supposed to touch. He responded that I should be pleased that I have extra paint in that room - look on it like a bonus. I explained that I now have to buy more paint and spend time repainting the wall they were not supposed to touch. He offered me $100 off of the job, which is not anywhere close to the time and money I had to spend to fix all of their mistakes and replace damaged fixtures. The owner told me that I should have been watching them better. I thought the reason why you hired "professional" painters is so that you did not have to stand over their shoulder and watch them every minute. I don't think this company is very professional. I would have been better off paying my kids to paint the walls. At least I would have anticipated needing to micromanage them. And I would have saved hundreds of dollars and lots of stress. Response to the Provider Response: The paint was the high quality Sherwin-Williams paint theforeman told me to get, which does cover very well if applied correctly. I was never asked if I wanted extra coats of paint beyond the 2 we contracted for. I did explain the walls not to be painted to the foreman during the walk through appointment, which is why the contract specified only 2 walls and the ceiling were to be painted in that room. Additionally, I explained to both of the painters the specific parameters of the job for each room before they started and they both confirmed verbally that they understood me. The hardware did include nails, that is true, but it also included curtain rod holders and switch plate covers. I never asked them to dispose of the nails or anything they took off of the walls, instead I specified that I wanted them to put everything they take off of the walls in a bag, not droped on the floor and stepped on. I am not clear on the repairs the provider is referring to. They removed the wall paper and made some minor repairs to the plaster - none of which I had a problem with, so I am not sure what the repairs comment means. I am going to try to attach picturesto support some of the statements I made in my review (broken curtain rod holders and switch plate covers, primer painted over the outlets, drips or smears of paint, primer showing through in 2 rooms).

At the beginning it seemed they were punctuate and professional but soon the whole project lost control. I was told it would be finished in 3 days but it actually took 12 days before it was completely done. I made phone calls, wrote emails but no one responded. After they told me they were done and I went to do a walk through but found glitches here and there. They promised to fix them but after third time walk through, I still found issues. I lost patience and would rather do it myself but there are too many and it will take a while for me to finish them all.

We have hired them before and they did such a wonderful job that we definitely wanted to hire them again, but this time it didn't turn out so well. The workers who came out left a note on the door stating that we weren't here which we were because my husband works fromm home and I'm retired. We saw the note just 15-30 max minutes after the scheduled time they were supposed to come. They said they waited 30 minutes for me. I called them that day and they said the workers were already headed to another job which I didn't understand because they were scheduled for an all day job with me. They said we could re-schedule it which we did re-schedule at that time, but I had wanted the work done before the Thanksgiving holiday. They ended up calling me on the re-scheduled day saying that something came up and they wanted to re-schedule again, but at this point it would be December so I was very disappointed. I had the Big Deal refunded. I would not recommend them anymore.

They had three days of patching and sanding and then painting for two days. It was a big job and we were out of town during most of the time they were in our home. When we returned the job was done and looked great!

I was not able to use the service due to unavailablity of the provider.

Joel was very friendly and responsive. His crew was punctual and hard-working. Overall, the quality of the work was good, but there were a few problems that we noticed after the job was completed and the workers left: several small splatters and drips of paint on the hardwood floors (indicating that they could have done a better job making sure the drop cloths completely covered the floors), failed to remove one switch plate, so when I replaced it with a new one of a smaller size, there was an area around the plate that was not painted, and there were a few small dings in the walls, apparently from the ladders. These things were not noticed during the inspection of the job, but in the days following. The job took 2 days to complete, which was fast for such a large job. They worked late the second day to finish the job. It appeared that the workers rushed to finish in 2 days rather than come back for a third day (note: we did not ask to have the job done in 2 days). Also, the amount of paint we were told to buy was much more than we needed (about double), so we ended up with a LOT of extra paint that we couldn't return (about $300 worth of unused paint). Maybe they only painted one coat and were supposed to do 2 coats? I don't know... I was happy enough with the job overall that I would probably hire them again, but I'd pay more attention to some of these details.

I’ve used him since. He’s painted about 97% of the interior of my house. I’ve also used their services for my parent’s home.

They were horrible. The guy came out really quickly and then we set a time for them to paint the inside of an older small home. I needed a professional painter just due to the age of the home. He came and gave a quote and then they came and did the painting and they did a backsplash as well. They said it would only take two days and that came out to be a bad time estimate on their part because they rushed the work. They prepped the walls the first day and then the second day when they did the painting they were at my home until 9 PM and they got sloppy at the end and they did not install the backsplash properly in a few areas. The paint is peeling as I do not think they primed a few areas and the work was just got done very sloppy. I would never use them again. I called the guy the next day as I was able to look at the work and I really only noticed the backsplash at the point. I scheduled with him to come and at least take a look at the work and he never showed up to do it as I had already payed them on the second day. The powder room doors were painted shut as well.

They sent me an email stating that they don’t service my area so I am receiving a credit

I called and emailed the provider several times asking for the estimate, thinking they had the wrong email or contact info for me. I am always told I should expect it later the day or the next day, but then never get anything.

When arranging the service I advised a mirror in the bathroom had to removed; they would not do, I would need to hire someone else. I requested additional hours at their going rate to totally complete the job; they would not arrange; I would need to hire someone else. I was required to purchase all materials; too difficult for me at 75 yrs of age, I would need to hire someone else. Requested a start time; gave me a 2 hour window for arrival. They were not at all accommodating; When I purchased the deal; it expired in June when I called late April or early May; I was told they had completed most of these deals and had difficulty arranging people and couldn't do everything I was requesting. I had the impression they preferred not to do the job. I decided not to go through with the deal; I did email them to assure they would know and they thanked me for the notice.

Two painters were provided. I provided premium unopened Benjamin Moore paint. One painter did excellent work, except for some he got on our carpet. The other managed to contaminate the paint, such that previously smooth surfaces now had embedded materials that looked like chips of paint. He also got paint all over a polished brass door knob. I notified Definition and suggested that the owner spend 5 minutes looking at the problems so that he could figure the time needed for corrections. Mr. Alvarado declined, and told me they would spend and hour or two making corrections on a specific date. Mr. Alvarado arrived nearly an hour before the agreed time. My wife and I had planned to be out of the way at 8:30am, and could not move quickly enough (we are old folks). Mr. Alvarado stated that the time of arrival had been set at 7:30-8:30. He denied that his office had stated 8:30. However, I have an email from his office stating 8:30 arrival, not a range of times. He left and never offered to return. In my experience, Definition had serious communications issues. Phone calls went unanswered for days. Email commitments were not kept. And on this job, quality control was problematic. Without ever looking at the problems I had identified, Mr. Alvarado told me that 1-2 hours was all that would be spent on corrections. Better hope you get the good painter and not the other guy if you deal with Definition. And that they improve substantially on their communications.
