I chose this company because their knowledgeable estimator David took time to explain the complex process and to answer my questions; the price was competitive; and ALWE would handle challenges that other companies stated they would not do. Based on his extensive knowledge of old houses, David gave me definitive information vs. "I'm not sure." He speculated about types of adhesive, tile age, subfloor materials, etc. and he was right. No surprises during removal day. The team arrived on time and completed the work on time, in one long day. Despite having to work in brutal heat (no AC in an uninsulated upstairs space on a 95 degree day), the team worked hard without complaint. The supervisor Eric was very efficient and knowledgeable and kept the work running smoothly. Everyone was polite. They removed old asbestos tile, linoleum and adhesive from three rooms, ran a thorough final air test, and provided a final report, which is important for future decisions. Highly recommend. Hope I never need more environmental services, but if I do I will contact ALWE.

All went extremely well - they arrived on time, acted in a professional manner, sealed the area for treatment and completed the job: preparation, treatment, testing, and clean-up in about 8 hours. Larry Brand was on site with a team of experienced workers. I was well-informed throughout the process. I received a written report 3 days later. Pleased with the outcome.

I hired Air Land and Water to remove ~120 sq ft of vinyl asbestos tile in my basement. The owner of the company, Larry, arrived at my home to look over the site before the rest of his team arrived shortly thereafter. They built a containment area out of plastic sheeting and created negative air pressure within that sheeting with a HEPA air filter that exhausted out through my basement door. When they were done, they took air samples and examined them by microscope to confirm that the air met relevant asbestos standards. After confirming this, they cleaned up and took the tile away. A few days later, I received an email from Larry with written air quality test results. Overall, I was very pleased with their professional and prompt service. I was also impressed that the owner of the company was onsite to make sure the job was done right. Separately, I was amazed at how difficult it was to find an abatement company that could explain what they would be doing and why. Unlike typical contractor jobs, where the work is visible (e.g. new floors) or easy to understand if it works (e.g. plumbing installed correctly to code, not leaking), asbestos remediation is hard to understand - you can't go in there while it's going on, and although there are requirements, it's hard to understand what they mean in terms of how the job gets done and your own safety. I recommend that people considering abatement check with the Maryland department of environmental protection to ensure that a company is up to date on their certifications (Air Land and Water was at the time I hired them). For whatever it's worth, Larry, the owner of Air Land & Water, is a Professional Engineer, which to me meant an additional level of, well, professionalism.

They told me initially that there was lead based paint in the house. When they sent the written report it didn't match what they originally had stated. This report said there wasn't lead paint on the walls. We removed walls removed and hired other specialists to fix this issue. The discrepancy costed us quite of bit of money, and the owner blamed us which was frustrating.
Description of Work: They came and tested several rooms in our home for lead based paint.
