Adcocks is simply a great company. In my two experiences with them this year, I've been completely satisfied -- with the quality of the work, the professionalism of the employees, the dedication to getting it "right," and the reasonable price. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend them to others. I recently bought my house, and the previous owner struggled with squirrels climbing up the support beam of an elevated sunroom and entering the floor area. The previous owner apparently called a pest control company multiple times a year to trap squirrels when they would take up residence in the sunroom floor, and each time the company would charge a couple hundred dollars. Their attempt to "patch" the hole was completely ineffective: some lightweight mesh that the squirrels trivially chewed through. It was a "self-licking" ice cream cone: since the underlying problem was never solved, the previous homeowner was writing check after check when squirrels inevitably returned. I'm not sure why she didn't think there was something wrong with this, but I guess she trusted the company she was working with. After buying the house, I knew I didn't want to deal with this. I found Adcocks on Angie's List and gave them a call. For a fixed price, they guaranteed to remove the squirrels (regardless of how many trips it took), and to effectively patch up the hole. They set up and baited three traps, and every day, there would be 1-3 squirrels caught in the traps. Adcocks visited each day to remove the squirrels and reset the traps. This happened for several days, until they were determined there were no squirrels still hiding in the sunroom floor. They then patched up the hole in an "industrial grade" fashion, and I haven't seen any squirrels attempt to get through it since then. Problem solved. A few days ago, I woke up and heard a pecking sound coming from the side of the house. I walked outside and caught a woodpecker in the act of making a hole through a gable near the top of the house. So I called Adcocks again. One of their employees stopped by this morning and took care of the problem quickly, effectively, and inexpensively (only $70!). He investigated the attic, was able to find and remove the bird, and also discovered that there was part of the attic that didn't have insulation -- which he fixed. He then patched up the hole. Because the gable is made out of a composite material, woodpeckers might find their way through it again in the future; the employee left a quote to replace the gable with an aluminum one if that happens in the future. It's not much fun having critters trying to become housemates without paying rent, but that's part of the deal of living on a heavily wooded lot. I'm glad I found a company that is effective, honest, and professional to help out when the inevitable happens. They also offer an Angie's List discount.
Description of Work: I've used Adcocks Trapping Service twice this year. Earlier this year, squirrels had chewed their way into the floor of my (elevated) sunroom, and taken up residence there. Adcocks spent a week trapping and removing squirrels, and then very effectively patched up the area they were entering so they won't be able to get in there again: problem solved. A few days ago, a woodpecker made a hole through a gable into my attic. Adcocks removed the bird and patched up the hole.

We were very happy both with the promptness and quality service of Adcock's. HIghly recommended. A bit on the pricey side, but well worth it.
Description of Work: We started hearing noises in our attic and discovered that there were racoons (and maybe babies) up there. Adcock's came out promptly and set some traps. Although they didn't catch the critters, I was satisfied that they did a thorough inspection and that the pests are now gone.

Initially contacted Adcocks Trapping Service about removing some critters from my chimney. They did not respond. I thought that, perhaps, they were behind or without power (due to the derecho that came through about a week before the initial contact). I waited about two weeks and tried again, but still did not receive a response. I'm STILL hoping everything is OK as it is unusual for an Angie's List company not to respond to messages at all.
Description of Work: Contacted Adcocks Trapping Service about removing some critters from my chimney. They never responded to multiple contact attempts via Angie's List message service.

Fantastic! I have had mice problems for several years and would kill a few each year an then be fine for six months. Welll the last round I had it and wanted to keep them from getting in at all. (I didnt need to pay a service to kill them- I coudl do that ) but I did need someone to seal off all the holes. Well after not calling Adcocks when first looking threw Angie's list (bc they seemed ike they might only deal with actually exterminating/catching animals) and getting an appointment with someone who said they couldent do it when they saw the holes in my kitchen I called Adocks. They came and did the job. Punctual, friendly, etc... I did have to point out one hole when he "finished" that he had forgotten I told him but he brought his stuff right back up and did it. Wish all companies were like this.
Description of Work: sealed off holes in kitchen were mice were coming in at. Took pic of biggest/most awkard hole (around a ventilator) and sent to them and they affirmed they could do the service.

We recently moved into a new house and had the attics inspected by a pest control company. They reported finding evidence of squirrels and recommended that, in addition to hiring them to eliminate the squirrels, we have the attic professionally cleaned and the insulation replaced because of "contamination". They offered to do the job for $2,100. I decide to start with figuring whether we had squirrels or not, and addressing that problem as a first step, and so contacted Adcocks. I cannot say enough great things about Adcock's. From start to finish they have been fantastic. The woman who answered my initial call was very knowledgeable and helpful. She asked some questions about the issues I was having and then spoke with me about what the problem may be and scheduled someone to come out as soon as possible. The representative that arrived today was great. He arrived on time and took the time to ask questions and fully understand what we had been experiencing. He gave background on what types of animals we may have based on what I'd described. He then looked in our attics, checked the outside of the house focusing on possible entry points, and reported what he had found. He discussed with me the fact that the evidence of animals he was seeing could be from years ago, and not an active issue, so he suggested he leave traps to verify whether there is active animal activity. The traps are positioned so we can check them ourselves and not have to pay for an additional visit (or we can have Adcock's come back and check them if we prefer). At no point did Adcock's try to "upsell" any services. The representative answered all my questions and gave me different options ranging from very conservative to more proactive, but suggested waiting until we knew for sure whether there was an active issue. At that point, they could perform additional services depending on what type of animal he found (mice or flying squirrels). He outlined the possible options and also the price. The prices were very reasonable and my $95.00 inspection free from today would be applied towards any additional costs. After experiencing one company that tried to take advantage of the situation and sell services that may be unnecessary, finding Adcock's was a huge relief. They definitely know their stuff and were straightforward in their pricing and recommendations. I trust the advice I received and really appreciate the cost-effective suggestions as to how to best remedy the problem.
Description of Work: Adcock's came out and performed a preventative inspection of our attics to determine if we had any animals (mice or possibly squirrels). The representative inspected our attics and the outside of the house for entry points and then, because nothing was conclusive, he set up traps in the attics to verify whether there was any animal activity. He will return in one week to check the traps and to give recommendations accordingly.

They are excellent. Its a family run business and I have nothing bad I could say about them. I had a snake in my kitchen and I called them immediately. They came out and took away the snake. They pointed out all the possible entry points and then they took care of it. I had raccoon trouble in my attic six months prior to the snake and they took care of them as well and closed all entry points to the attic as well.

This was a great experience. The team did the initail visit and informed me that the squirrels were coming in from 2 different locations. They placed the traps and told me they would be monitored over the next few weeks. I work from home and often I wouldn't even know the trappers were here until I heard the traps being moved. Even when I was home, they would leave a note with the update for the day. The team was timely and courteous.

Adcock's was thorough, professional, and effective. They surveyed the house to see if there were other points of entry for the squirrels besides the old kitchen vent fan opening. They explained the process and came 2-3 times a week to check on humane traps. They left status cards with each visit. They removed the captured squirrels to release elsewhere. When all the animals were gone, they got a mason to remove the old vent cover and stop it up with bricks. The workmanship was OK (matching the old mortar would have been difficult and not worth it). Their price was quite reasonable for the amount of service (I would have had to pay more just to get a mason than they charged for the whole job).
Description of Work: Inspected for other potential entry points for squirrels.Humanely removed a family of squirrels from old ductwork. Plugged the unneeded vent fan outlet with bricks I supplied.

My renter called and explained the problem. I called Adcocks, and they responded as indicated. My renter bought earplugs for the duration. The birds lived.
Description of Work: What a great company! I called to say we had birds or squirrels in our chimney. The person who answered the phone told me it was not the right time of year for squirrel nests and that we had to have a nest of chimney sparrows, that they were a protected species, and that they would be gone in two to four weeks when the chicks could fly. I appreciate the honest professional advice, and, of course, saving money. I will use them again and recommend them.

Overall, very efficient and effective. Their staff were well-informed, easy to deal with and straightforward. We are overjoyed at the results. Their knowledge and professionalism are evident in the results. We haven't seen a mouse (or mouse poo!) in months.
Description of Work: We had a serious and ongoing problem with mice. The company we used previously attempted to plug holes and set poison traps but over the past 3 years the problem only worsened. After talking with 2 companies, one of which wanted to cut a hole in our upstairs ceiling, Adcock's was the first to clearly identify the source (a hole in the foundation of our neighbor's townhouse that led directly into our basement). The initial inspection was $225. On the first visit they identified the problem, gave us an estimate, and set traps. They worked collaboratively with our neighbors, gave us an estimate for the 3 houses, since our townhouses are adjoining, plugged the holes, and set traps to remove the mice still in the house. On the second visit they plugged the holes, working with our neighbors, and set another round of traps.

I called on a Sunday at 6am to report the racoons in my chimney, left a voice mail. They called back at 8am to schedule my visit for the following day between 2-4pm. She told me not to worry about them coming in the house, explained how the racoons are nocturnal and they must be nesting in the chimney. She told me the price of the visit plus the chimney cap ($250 plus $125). They came on Monday a little after 2pm. He explained the work they would do and got right to it. It was two gentlemen. I stayed upstairs afraid I would freak out at the sight of a racoon in my house. I heard some noise, he had to take apart the damper, banging, drilling (i think). Went down to check and outside I see a cage with 3 baby racoons that are actually nearly full grown!! Then I see the technican screeching up the chimney to scare out the mother who was mad her babies were gone. Then mama racoon goes up and gets trapped at the top by the other technician with cage on the roof. Very impressive!! Adcock rocks!!! It's expensive which is why I gave them a B in Value, but they are PROS! I did get the $25 off which counts too! So call me oblivious because how the heck did I have a family of 4 with nearly 3 full grown babies living in my house for at least 8 weeks and I just noticed them 3 days ago. And I thought I noticed everything!! The technicians then capped off the fireplace chimney and then I asked them to walk around the house and check other openings.. They fastened down a little piece of siding by the attic vent as well. Use this company for all your trapping needs.

When I called to make the appointment, the lady I talked to on the phone was able to tell me up front how much the proposed work would cost. (Other places that I had called told me they would have to come do an estimate first.) I was able to make the appointment for the next day. The gentleman showed up on time. I showed him the hole under the eves. He went to his truck and got a tall ladder and screening. While he was climbing up and down, he noticed other vents on the back of the house and asked what they were for. Only one was currently used, the dryer on the main level. He put in a metal diverter to make it impossible for a bird to get in but the airflow wouldn't be restricted and gather lint. All materials were cleaned up and he put his ladder back in his truck. Then I showed him my powder room next to the front door. For years, there have been birds nesting in the bathroom vent. Fortunately there were no birds this year so we didn't have to worry about making sure to get them out before screening over the entrance. He removed the fan in the ceiling and removed the nesting material. Then he went up on a ladder to screen over the outside vent. All materials were cleaned up and then he wrote up a receipt for the work performed. I was able to pay by credit card. About a week later I received a formal receipt for the credit card charge in the mail. I'm very happy that I won't have to worry now about the insides of my walls and attic being destroyed by nesting birds!
Description of Work: I had them come out to cover my exposed vents and clean out debris from birds nesting in my bathroom vent. I also had him look into a possible groundhog removal. He put out a bag in the entrance to where he was seen to hide under our shed. It was something we could check and then decide whether we needed it removed. He was very efficient to add screening to the hole under my eves that birds have been nesting in for years. He also noticed that my dryer vent was exposed and suggested that it be covered as well. He put in a diverter so the birds couldn't get in.

I'm very satisfied with what they did. No more squirrels! The service techs came every day (except weekends and holiday) for about 6 days. The traps were set on the roof so I didn't have to be home to let them into the attic to do anything. Since it was a fixed price job, there were no surprises on the cost and the Angies's List discount was a plus. The only thing I would have liked to happen was to have someone make a final trip to the attic to look for any obvious critter damage like chewing the wiring. I don't know if a trapping service would normally do that. I suppose if I'd specifically asked for it they would have done it, but I didn't ask. Bottom line is that if I hear any more unwanted critters, I will call Adcocks Trapping Service again.
Description of Work: Removed squirrels from my attic and plugged hole where they were entering. I was able to schedule an appointment very quickly. I had an initial assessment visit at which time the company rep diagnosed the problem, identified what was required to remove the squirrels and plug the hole, and explained the cost to me. The service techs made approximately 6 visits. At the first visit they set up traps on the roof to catch the squirrels. On subsequent visits they emptied the traps (and released the squirrels at some appropriate location) then reset the traps until they were no more squirrels being trapped. Then they fixed the hole. I've heard no further indication of critters in the attic. It was a flat fee of 350.00 with a 25.00 discount for being an Angie's List member.

The technician arrived an hour and a half later. He came into DC from the Eastern Shore area of Maryland. He was very professional and stayed until 1130 PM when he finally was able to catch the squirrel. He even had to take apart the toilet because the squirrel had climbed up behind the toilet tank. I am very impressed with the technician despite the lack of courtesy by reception and length of time to arrive.
Description of Work: I had a squirrel in my house and my dogs had cornered it behind my radiator. At first I thought that it was a mouse so i put some mouse traps out but after an hour the dogs seemed to be indicate it was something more. When I leaked behind the radiator I discovered it was a squirrel. I called 5 different companies including my pest control contractor. No one had anyone available despite the fact that four of them say they have 24 hour service. After two calls to Adcock Trapping I finally got someone on the phone. They sent someone out.

We could hear, and later see, a squirrel enter our attic at the roof line. It also pulled out insulation and scattered the pieces across our front yard. So we contacted Adcock's through their website one evening and they responded with a phone call the following morning. They sent someone over to assess the situation and set traps. They returned daily to check traps (except the weekend when they disengage them) and for signs of activity around the holes. In addition to the squirrels, they found that nesting birds were also a problem on our roof, along our upper gutters. When they were certain there was no more activity, they sealed the holes completely. Although they were not able to catch the offending squirrel, I felt they did a professional job and I'm happy with their work. I would recommend them to others and use them again (although I hope there's no reason to). The Angie's List discount was applied and they even extended an additional discount as well. The guarantee their work (closing off the holes) for 5 years.

I don't feel like they are trying to sell me extra services. They are extremely knowledgeable. I can tell that they really care about the animal and treat them humanely, but also take care of our problem. I had been hearing something on our roof at night. He came out to look to see if the animal had come into the house, or just staying outside. He said it looked like the animal didn't have an entry point into the house. We are deciding what we want to do, either trap it or put up barriers.

We noticed birds had pulled the screening off of the soffit vents into our townhouse attic and the were starting to nest in the attic. Two friendly employees from Adcocks arrived on time. I described the problem, and they put the ladder up against the house to inspect the area where the the bird was gaining access to the attic. The bird flew out of the attic (THAT was easy!) and then they inspected the other vents and the inside of the attic. There were no babies or eggs in the nest, they put new screens over all of the old soffit screens, front & back. They also identified a chew-hole caused by squirrels. There was no evidence of squirrels currently in the attic, so they taped the opening closed. The inspector will come back on Friday and see if there are chew marks on the tape, which would mean that there ARE squirrels. If there are no squirrels, they'll install a permanent metal patch to the hole. If there is evidence of squirrels, there will be an additional charge and they will put a one-way door on the attic so the squirrels can get out but not back in. I was very pleased with the work that was done and the people doing the work. They also identified chew holes on our neighbor's roof, and we went and let them know that they probably have squirrels in their attic, too. They were very appreciative to know about it, although not happy at the news.

Extremely happy with the level of expertise, professionalism and commitment to getting the job done quickly and effectively. John Adcock came out to do an initial inspection and identified an area in which the rodents might be entering, set traps and outlined a time-frame for getting rid of the pests. His employees came to remove the rodents once they were trapped. As we continued to get new activity, John suggested a smoke test and carried this out with a co-worker. He found some areas in with the rodents might be entering and after cutting through the wall, we saw that the vent pipe was totally corroded and with gaping holes in places. We replaced the entire pipe and John carried out a second smoke test to ensure there were no other holes. Happily we have not noticed any new activity.
Description of Work: We called Adcock because of a rodent problem in the ceiling of our basement/behind the walls in our kitchen. Our pest control company was worse than useless. Adcocks performed a thorough inspection, suggested what we should do and helped us in doing that. As the issue continued, they suggested a smoke detector test and carried this out. They identified areas in which the rodents might be entering and we addressed these with our contractor. Thankfully we have not had repeat visitors and thanks to Adcocks.

They came promptly, worked efficient to get at the vent, used a blower to blow out the nesting debris, and then installed a screen on the outside of the vent.
Description of Work: We had a bird beginning to build a nest in the oven exhaust vent. They cleaned out the vent and put a screen on it to prevent other birds from getting in.

He were great. He checked in the attic, around the house for places that animals would get it and for any droppings. He did leave some traps, taught us how to check the traps and how to get ahold of him if we did find anything. Also explained that we may have been hearing echos in the attic from animals being on the roof.
Description of Work: They went into the attic to check for rodents.

The expereince was a good one. Everything went smoothly. I didn't even have to be home once the initial inspection was performed. As a new homeowner, I was worried that within two weeks of moving in, I had an unwanted guest. Adcock's was so responsive that I didn't worry about the problem persisting or recurring. I would recommend the company, its personnel and service to others.
Description of Work: After hearing heavy rumblings in my attic, I checked Angie's List and called Adcock's on a Wednesday morning. I got an appointment for an inspection to be performed the very next afternoon. In setting up the appointment, the price for the inspection and any subsequent trapping and repair work was discussed. The inspector was on time, thorough, professional and took almost one hour. The point of entry was detemined, along with two other potential spots. The repair work for two spots was done the next day so that no animal could enter. A trap was set at the third spot. While nothing was caught (WHEW!), the trap was monitored daily for almost a week. Each day an inspector left a notice informing me that someone had been by. On the last day, the notice asked me to call the office to let them know if I had heard any more sounds. Once I made that call, that very day the final repair was done.
