ABJ Upholstery Unlimited

This kind of negative critique is not something I usually do, but have been compelled to do because the upholster, even though contacted, has made no effort to reply to my concern at all! The original upholsterer I had chosen had medical emergency that made it impossible to continue the work. I spent hours researching and pricing others. I final landed on and contracted with ABJ Upholstery Unlimited. They had a good past portfolio, good prices for the work I needed and they seemed to be in sync on how/what I expected. I warned them of how picky I was and the kind of work ethics I was looking for before I signed on with them to do the project. No offense, but I should let you know I'm a stickler for good clean work and symmetry. 10:21 PM No offense taken, We are also stickers for perfection😁 Even though they promised good clean work, that was not what I received. Everyone, including myself was impressed with the outcome. That was until I sat on the chairs and also noticed small flaws in workmanship. As expert upholsterers, I hoped they would guide me on suggested improvements, which they did if it meant a way to make money for them, not as suggested advice to turn out a superior product. Thursday, Aug 10th Hi Mrs. Denyce Each scratch on the chairs will cost $35 each. There are 4 scratches, so the total is $140. Also, Would you like us to add a light touch-up to the entire sofa for $95? As expert upholsterers, I hoped they would guide me on suggested improvements, which they did if it meant a way to make money for them, not as suggested advice. They provided a quote but insisted on sending out their master upholsterer to physically see the items to be reupholstered. When he came, he looked at everything, but provided a lower quote. I asked if he wanted to see the original quote and he declined, wrote up a work order, and I thought we were going forward from there. Apparently the quote was not good enough for the owner, he approached me with additions that required additional funding, even though the quote was given by their representative looking physically at the work to be done. Lastly, I'm afrai I have a BIG problem!!!! They are hard and uncomfortable! You were to put new cushioning. All around the front of the chairs where the piping is, there's a hard piece of wood you can feel when you sit on both chairs. Is there some way to cushion that very hard piece of wood in each chair? Everyone keeps telling me how uncomfortable they are! Did you sit on them? If you had sat on them, you would have felt immediately what everyone is referring to!!!! THEY NEVER REPLIED!!!! There was NO attention to details at all. These chairs were gifted to me by a friend, one leg was damaged, but it was kept out of sight by being placed on the back of the chair, ABJ replaced it right in the front where it can readily be seen. And on one of the chairs the finishing seams stick out and are uneven!!!!

after they made a huge mistake with our project and ruined our couches they made a lackluster attempt to correct their error and solve the problem. The drama that ensued was frustrating and exhausting. The owner made such rude and unprofessional comments that a coworker had to repeatedly apologize for his attitude. Before delivery they even tried to overcharge me. Just amazing. In the end the final project we originally hired them for was ok but hardly worth the effort. I'm sorry that I hired them.

They are a father and son team. They did a good job. I will be using them again soon. Their price was better than their competitors.

They were very nice, but did not do the proper work and was not completed how it should have been. Didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. There was a bit of a language barrier between us and the owner, but his son helped communicate for us.

The work is very good. The reliability is absolutely terrible. They missed appointments, you would have to call and they would explain why they did not show up, etc. They would then call and show up when without calling. I would not use them again nor recommend them. They are also unreliable in terms of when the work would be completed. They would not keep you informed as the work moved along. You would always have to call them.
