I reached out to Walt to install a dryer outlet. He got the job scheduled quickly and I was thrilled to get it done fast. I asked for a quote and was told one would be provided - but that didn't happen. Without providing a quote or calling me to explain anything, his team finished the job and then charged nearly $1,000. There was an additional outlet install but was not explained to us why it was necessary. Research from reputable online sources estimated the job to be between $150-300, depending on the length of copper wire ($300 for 30 ft of wire). When I called Walt to ask why the work was carried out without a quote, or if it was common practice to charge people $1,000 without giving them a heads up, he began to berate me and literally SCREAM at me, telling me what I read online was "not real". I repeatedly asked for him not to yell at me and asked if this was his common business practice - to which he got more angry and demanded I pay him immediately (when I asked how he would like to be paid). I would seriously advise AGAINST using Walt / Meyer and will be spreading my experience to help others avoid them same mistake.

paid a lot of money for Meyer Electrical to come to my home and do some electrical services. They failed to do the job correctly, which forced me to hire another contractor to do the work Meyer failed to do. When I tried to get some money back for the botched job, Walt Meyer accused me of fraud. I provided the invoice from the second electrician who performed the work Meyer couldn't, and Walt Meyer said the invoice I sent him was "bogus." So, not only was I cheated out of money by Meyer, and had to spend more time and money to get the job done correctly, but I was also accused of trying to defraud him with a "bogus" invoice. Terrible experience.

An unsupervised Meyer Electrical Services apprentice did unnecessary damages to my living room ceiling by cutting in the wrong location and at unnecessarily close intervals for installation of the ceiling fan and wiring. That is, despite my having marked the location for the fan installation, and shown it to both Mr. Meyer and his journeyman Ben, who assured me where the holes would be cut and the interval of cuts. The damage to my ceiling is significant, and when I calmly brought it to Ben’s attention, he and the apprentice Mike packed up and left the job unfinished. A reputable contractor will try to work with a customer to resolve a problem, and will fix his company’s mistakes at its own expense. However, Mr. Meyer, who was not on the job, was unresponsive when I subsequently phoned him to discuss the damages. In addition, when I asked Ben about his purported license, he told me that his license with Montgomery County expired.
Description of Work: The work included installing a fan rated box and wiring for a ceiling fan, and other electrical work.

I was called after I submitted project description and requested free estimate from several service providers given by Angie's List. I was walked over the phone to troubleshoot the problem. Problem was with switch in the circuit box not being switched completely to on position. I very much appreciated the troubleshooting at no cost. I've added Meyer Electrical as my go to company when I have electrical problems.

Storm damage from a tree falling on my electrical wires dislodged the electrical box and wiring outside my home. Ben, the electrician advised me that it would be more cost effective to provide a heavy up, rather than try to repair the current equipment. I received an estimate by email and made the appointment. Staff arrived when expected. The work was done to specifications and was completed. I have used Meyer Electrical Services times twice before over the past 15 years. They are professional and never disappoint. My family and neighbors also use this company. I highly recommend.

Walt was very responsive and able to stop by for a quote within a day and then when I was ready to get the work done he was able to have a team out here the very next day. The process was very professional and was responsive when I wanted to change the scope ahead of getting the work done. Ben arrived on time to do the work and was very friendly and helpful even going out of his way to ensure the dust from the sawing was cleaned up - the work was done in a quality and timely manner and came in within the original estimate.

This is the second job Meyer Electric did for me. The first, they installed a ceiling fan and an outdoor outlet. The second time including several new outlets inside the house and a new ceiling light. Both times, Meyer Electric was very professional and punctual. Also the owner came out both times and the first time included a father/son team. It’s nice to work with a family orientated company.

They installed a 240V outlet in my driveway for charging my new electric car. Walt Meyer came to prepare the estimate. I was impressed with his knowledge and efficiency in determining the best way to do the job. His electrician, Ben, came the next week after I agreed to the contract. He did an outstanding job - and was an extremely nice person to work with. I plan to use Meyer Electrical Services in the future.

Terrible. They showed up to diagnose the problem, then told me that it would be a major electrical repair. Also this was Thursday and they said they could not start work until Monday. Monday came and went and when I called to inquire they said they would not work in this property. No further explanation and without power for five days. Called Kolb Electric came the same day and found a simple ungrounded neutral wire in a bathroom fixture. Re wired it and power back on, simply fix not a "major" repair stated by Meyer Electric. Stay away from these shysters.

My electrical service was only 100 amps with a split bus panel from the 70s (not legal anymore). I contacted Walt to get my main service upgraded to 200 amps and an up-to-code panel, and an electrical outlet on the front porch of the house. He gave me a decent price, showed up when he said he would, got the permit, worked quickly and throughly, got the inspection and got me up and running in a timely and fast manner. Walt is a friendly but no nonsense sort of guy. No BS, no schmoozing, just got to work and got the job done with great attention to quality.

They did not give me a call ahead prior to arriving or a phone number to reach the technician at. They went to the wrong house (4 houses down). Our appointment was scheduled at 1:30 and they apparently waited infront of the wrong house till 1:45 and then left , I am not sure why they didnt think to A. look at the house number, B. call me to see why I am not opening the door.... I called the office 6 times, left voicemails, and emails. No one answered and I was forced to pay another company an Emergency Fee to come out same day. After explaining all of this via email, they didnt even apologize once.

The tech arrived at 1:15 for the inspection you requested. A blue car momentarily stopped by the service van about 1:39 waved and drove off without speaking to the tech. During this time the tech is watching the drug activity going on down the street. I made the decision for him to leave and this will probably the last time we service Anacostia. If that was you in the blue car it would've been helpful if you spoke to the tech instead of driving off. Maybe you knew something about the neighborhood that we didn't know. Thank you for your review.

We had a dispute with the service. When I called to discuss, this contractor called me "mentally ill", said I need to "back on my meds" and that I was "sick". Since he threatened to sue me, I am being very careful with what I say and only sharing what he said on the phone to me. HIs threats made me very scared for my safety, especially since he knows where I live.

Response from Meyer Electrical Services Inc
11/6/2017 Wow, let's start from the beginning with the facts/truth so whomever reads this gets the full story. Mr. [Member Name Removed] lives in a turn of the century DC firehouse that was turned into condominium's in the late 60's or early 70's. This is based on the fact that Federal Pacific Electric Panel Boards were installed during the renovation and were prevalent during this time period before they were forced out of business because of all the fires they caused and the ensuing lawsuits. There are approximately twelve units in the building in which Mr. [Member Name Removed] owns four, one he lives in, the other three he rents out. One of the units he had to replace the dryer and upgrade the panel. He knows about the Federal Pacific being unsafe and wanted a quote to replace all four. We met for a site visit and he showed me all four units. I asked him to show us the main electrical room since we needed to turn the power off to replace the panel. He had no idea where the electrical room was, so we started to search the building for the electrical room and found two locked doors on the lower level and he said he would contact management to have them unlocked on the day of the installation. We had two options to replace the panel, one to retrofit the interior and replace the cover which would be less invasive and the other, if it did not work, replace the whole panel. Submitted a price and was told he only wanted to replace the one panel at this time and install the new 240 volt 30 amp dryer circuit. He agreed to the contract, signed and submitted a down payment. The special order retrofit finally arrived after about four weeks, it did not help that the cover got lost in transit. Once again, I asked about having access to the electrical room so the power could be turned off and was told he would be at the condo meeting that evening and would find out who has the key. On the day of the job, he wants to schedule at 2:00 p.m. which does work with our schedule that late in the day since there is only street parking available and rush hour parking guidelines would start soon. We were able to start at 9:30 a.m. and still no access to the electrical room. He's telling me now the main service for the building is in the restaurant next door, I find this odd, but it's DC. Normally the electrical room is in the basement where those two closet doors are located. Nevertheless, the special order retrofit kit does not have enough spaces for it to work but we were able to install the dryer circuit after making some adjustments with the circuit breakers. Showed him the new dryer circuit and it's wrong. The dryer he purchased is rated for 240 volts at 15 amps not the 30 amps we installed. Changed out the existing 20 amp dryer outlet to a 15 amp so the tenants could have a working dryer. I explained all of this to him and told him that we can pick up a panel at the (stock item) supply house. At this point it's 2:30 p.m. and I am looking at this restaurant and it is still not open for business. We are standing outside and I ask him again if we can get us access to the the main service room to turn the power off so we can schedule tomorrow to complete the panel replacement. He walks back in the building without saying a word to me. That's odd, now it's get weird. The following morning, he calls at 7:30 a.m. and starts screaming that I have been lying to him from day one, I am a con-artist, all we did was change out a outlet and demanding his deposit be returned or else he would write a bad review. I wish I had recorded his call because there was no discussing or conversation, only demands I return his money. I could not get a sentence in. [Member Name Removed], as you can see he did just that and more. I think there are at least five other web sites he has written a negative review. We have been in business now for 25 years and we do a lot of these type of small jobs. In the course of doing all these service calls, etc during a year, your going to have one or two people that no matter what you do to make things right, solve a issue - whatever it may be, you cannot make them happy. But, Mr. [Member Name Removed] has crossed the line with the phone call I received from him. This is only a opinion, now that his tenants are off his back and they can now do their laundry, why pay Meyer Electrical Services complete the replacement of the Federal Pacific electrical panel and while I am at it, threaten him with a bad review if he dosn't return my deposit. Posting this comment will notify the reviewer.
