Overall, Kustom Floors was a pleasure to work with and my wife and I couldn't be happier with the finished product.  They were punctual, professional and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted. My wife and I purchased a new home and, prior to moving in, we realized that the hardwood floors were defective throughout (flaking and peeling in every room).  We were scheduled to move in one week and Rudy and his team were able to start immediately.  Rudy first explained what was wrong with the floors and what needed to be done to repair the floors appropriately. Unlike other providers we spoke with, Rudy went into great detail regarding what needed to be done and why. Rudy also explained the various stain and finish options and the different costs associated with each option.  Rudy and his team worked tirelessly (including over Labor Day weekend) to ensure that the floors were finished so that my family and I could move into the house after Labor Day.  The floors look amazing and we couldn't be happier.

Everything went well.  Rudy and his team were easy to work with.  He explained everything to me ahead of time and worked within our schedule (we wanted everything done rather quickly before we moved in).  The new floors and wall look great and they cleaned up each day when they were finished.

Had an appointment set up and he did not show.  Called and left a message.  He called back without listening to my message and didn't remember me or my job.  He finally went over to give me  a price and haven't heard back from him.  All the other contractors for this job proposal came back within 24 hours.  The fact that he didn't keep my appointment makes it very hard for me to do work with that contractor. I am a professional and demand it back on my team.  He did apologize which was nice.

The work was expertly done, on time and with an impressive attention to detail. Since my wife and I are both in sales and 'live-and-breathe' customer services, we're not easily impressed and can smell a bad apple from miles away. We're pleased to report Rudy and his team are worthy of your confidence and business. Because 'customer service' is his mantra too.

Rudy and his crew did a beautiful job installing hardwood floors on the second floor of the home (removing existing carpeting) and worked around the travel schedules of my client, the homeowner. We opted for pre-finished wood on this floor (primarily to avoid the smell factor from new wood being stained and finished).  We went through lots of samples to find the color the homeowner wanted, and it's beautiful!   It was a pleasure to work with the polite and meticulous workers at Kustom Floors, and the homeowner is very happy.

My client, the homeowner, and I are extremely impressed with the work by Kustom Floors.   The floors look amazing! I started the process by getting bids from three flooring companies, including one old established company.  Kustom Floors gave me detailed information during the bidding process about the existing hardwood floors (including how two different types of woods were used during an earlier renovation and the best way to handle this) that the other flooring companies didn't mention.  The three estimates were roughly the same, but I noticed that the large company hadn't included key elements, like one of the staircases and they didn't return my email or call as to whether this was in fact included but not mentioned.  

The sales rep for that company was impressive but ultimately, I realized that the work was going to be subcontracted out from the large company.  Kustom Floors did the projects in steps to coordinate with the homeowners' travel schedules.  I checked in on the project daily and the workers were polite and professional.  They worked extra hours on the weekend to complete the project so that it would be dry when the homeowners arrived home.  The result: WOW--really beautiful and meticulous work.

Rudi and all his various crews were very professional.  They arrived when scheduled and the entire job took only a couple of weeks.  The quality of their work was excellent.  Most of the flooring companies we talked to did not do handrails, but Kustom had the skills to make this job complete.  Their carpet installation crew did an outstanding job:  no seams were visible and the patterned carpet was perfectly aligned to be perpendicular to the room. They were great about plugging in appliances before returning the heavy furniture pieces.  Our stairway is now the beautiful focal point when you enter our home!

We just purchased a new house and wanted to have our hardwood stairs refinished before we moved in. We called half a dozen companies for estimates; only 3 actually responded and showed up to give us quotes, including Kustom Floors. Rudy himself came out for an initial estimate about 2 weeks before we planned to have the work done. He walked the area with us and described how his team could pull up and dispose of the carpet runner that was on the stairs, refinish the stairs and banisters, and paint the risers, just as we requested. (Note:  none of the other companies we called said that they could refinish the treads AND paint the risers).

Rudy also took a look at the dining room floor and pointed out that the finish was old and yellow, water-stained and scratched deeply all around the edges, and suggested that we might consider refinishing it, as well.  He suggested installing a room separator piece between the dining room and hallway, and a bullnose on the top stair to the stairway leading into the finished basement, too.  Of the 3 representatives who actually responded to our request for quotes, Rudy clearly was far and away the most knowledgeable and professional, and we felt most comfortable trusting this fairly complex project to his team.  

Rudy's team, led by his brother, arrived a little late on the day they were to start the work, but called to let us know that they were stuck in traffic, which we appreciated.  When they arrived, they walked through the items we wanted to have done one more time with us.  We gave them a spare key so that they could come and go over the course of the week to do the work, since we weren't living in the house yet.  I can't speak to how they would deal with furniture in rooms, because we hadn't moved our furniture in yet. But they managed to minimize the amount of wood dust that made it into other rooms in the house, and cleaned everything up neatly after themselves when they were finished, so I imagine that they would take equal care with furniture.  The project took 4 full days to complete.  

There was no chemically odor or need to air out the house when they were done. The newly-refinished floors and stairs now match our living room floor (finished by a previous owner), which is exactly what we'd hoped for, and the transition and bullnose pieces fit in seamlessly.  The price ultimately was a bit higher than perhaps it could have been, but given the intricacy of the work on the bannisters, as well as the finishing + painting, the quality of the finished work, and the professionalism of the team as well as Rudy himself, it was definitely worth it. Overall, we are very happy with our now-elegant stairs and dining room floor!

Rudy and his crew were fantastic!  We started a kitchen renovation at the end of April 2014 and we contracted Rudy to install hardwoods throughout the 1st floor, stairs, & upstairs hallway.  My contractor took a bit of time to get things going, but Rudy was great and worked with my schedule to complete an awesome first floor transformation.  His crew worked extremely hard and fast to get the floors and stairs completed as quickly as possible.  We are very pleased with the quality of work and would use Kustom Floors again in a heartbeat.  We paid a fair price for a quality product and installation and we are very satisfied with the outcome.

Using Kustom Floors was a great experience. I got 3 estimates for a client and was most impressed with Rudy's knowledge and explanations of what was going on with the existing hardwood flooring and seeing pics of his previous work.  Rudy  worked to get just the right color stain for the client who wanted something out of the ordinary.  Everything went very smoothly with delivery, moving and replacing furniture and installation.  The floors look great.  We have hired Kustom Floors to do two other floors (and are getting an estimate to replace the railing and balusters) in this home.

I cannot say enough good things about these guys. I was in a bit of a crunch to redo some floors before I moved into my new house.  I accepted their bid and they started within a day or two.

Rudy was very professional and responded promptly for the initial estimate and scheduling work. The employees were prompt and courteous. The only issue we had was a material shortage that might have been a supplier error. Rudy was prompt in getting the material and scheduling to finish the job within 2 days of original installation.
The floor looks good and I am pleased with the workmanship.

Replacing the lousy carpet in my townhouse with hardwood floors had been planned as one of the last MAJOR home improvement projects that I wanted to complete a few years ago. However, I had a difficult time finding a company that would replace the stair railings, since this seemed to be a separate specialty that major flooring companies could not provide. By the time I gave up on replacing the railings, I resigned myself to skipping that part of the upgrade and scheduled a few companies to provide estimates to replace the carpet with oak hardwood 'compatible' with the old railings. Amazingly, when Rudy from Kustom Floors walked into my home to make an estimate, the first thing he said was. 'would you be interested in changing the railings...' and I nearly fell over, since I did not realize that his company could do more work than simply install hardwood floors.

Rudy professionally described a realistic estimate of the time and process and a ball park cost estimate. I agreed to have Kustom Floors do the work, although the cost exceeded my budget; but new railings would be worth it. [Note to anyone providing estimates: I had 3 other estimates and all three claimed it would only take 2 days to replace the carpeting with hardwood floors including the stairs. Several of my neighbors have had their stairs done, which took more than a week. Basically providing unrealistic time estimates tends to undermine any other estimates, including the quality of the workmanship.]The project took a few weeks involving several 'teams' to complete the work. In total, there were around a dozen people involved in working on specific items, including removals, set ups, moving furniture, touch up repainting, staining unfinished wood and cleaning up. 

During the project, I was still able to use my kitchen and 'camp out' each ni in my bedroom where I was not having work done. Each morning the crew arrived as scheduled, and they would let me know who would be coming the following day and approximately when they should be arriving, so I could be ready for them. They draped the bedroom doors and kitchen openings with sheet of plastic so those areas would remain free [somewhat] of sawdust. However sawdust did manage to find its way in odd locations, which was simple enough to clean up. Sawdust gets in the air and can take a few days to settle so I was still vacuuming it for a few weeks after the project was completed.

When starting the stairs, Rudy suggested 'opening' the stairs up which they were able to do with the 3 stairs at the base of the interior stairwell. They were not able to open the entire stairwell up, as he envisioned, without having to rebuild the entire stairwell because of the original construction. So that section was left as originally planned. But the opened stairs at the base make the stairwell more interesting to admire. I would use this company again, despite the relatively high cost, because they provide the best quality workmanship and seem to have a lot of pride in seeing that the final results have improved the home greatly.  Everyone was well mannered and sensitive to the concerns of the home owner, which is refreshing!

Rudy (owner) was wonderful to work with. Very professional and responsive to my telephone calls as well as emails. He kept me appraised of the progress almost daily. He also provided a detailed initial inspection to determine the scope of work, gave an accurate estimate, and discussed options for service fairly and without pressure. When we had a bit of confusion regarding his work crew, Rudy handled the situation extremely professionally and pro-actively so as to keep everyone on the same page.

Because Kustom Floors does both painting and flooring, there are two professional crews for each part of a job. I liked the responsiveness and attentiveness of both crew leaders as well as the attention to detail. Having Kustom Floors able to do both parts of a job made the work cohesive and easy to manage. I am especially pleased with the hardwood floors throughout the house - the finish is professional. The new flooring is seamless, and it makes it seem like an entirely new home. The paint crew was also great and able to work around where I as the homeowner needed to be in the home during the job. They accommodated me well.

When the job was done, Rudy came to see the work and walk through the house with me to see if I had any touch ups or issues to resolve. We found only a few touch ups for paint, and Rudy was meticulous about checking each angle, and scheduled painters to come back for the touch ups. He also went out of his way to advise me on a separate home question I had regarding my basement, which I appreciated and shows his professionalism.

Had a good experience with Kustom Floors. The work turned out very well - our floors are gorgeous and smooth, and I love walking on them. Rudy is very nice and was easy to work with, although I did find that he was unresponsive to email (very responsive to phone and text, however). We did have a small hiccup or two, but nothing major and we were pleased with the end result. And Rudy and team were very accommodating when I waffled about stain color - they showed me a number of samples until I found The One (which I'm glad I waited for, since it's perfect and exactly what I was envisioning). Would definitely use them again.

Kustom Floors refinished the white oak floors in our home and did a fabulous job from start to finish.  The floors had been stained a dark color and we decided to have the floors refinished to lighten them up to a natural tone that would make the rooms look bigger.  We got estimates from three companies and decided to go with Kustom Floors because we were so impressed by how well informed and careful Rudy was when he came to do the estimate.  He spent time going through every room and analyzing the house and spoke knowledgeably with me about various options.  He was very responsive to our desire to choose a low-VOC finish that would not leave a dwindling smell and to my questions about potential downsides of refinishing the floors and opting for a different stain. 

He also showed me a number of examples of his previous work on an I-pad he brought with him when he did the estimate, which I found very efficient and helpful.  We received the final estimate the same day he came to the house and before we made our decision, Rudy's team was incredibly responsive to my many questions.  His crew started exactly when we wanted them to and completed the job as scheduled.  Rudy was also very helpful when I decided to make a few adjustments to the original work order;  he was not bothered by the last-minute change in plans and was very helpful to me in figuring out different options. 

The change reduced the overall cost of the project and Rudy credited me on the final bill.  Rudy's team members were very careful when they did the work and left the place clean and tidy.  The floors look spectacular.  I was really impressed by their thoughtful and careful work and would recommend Kustom Floors highly. We will definitely work with Kustom Floors again if we have any other home-improvement projects we would like to do!

A+ SERVICE!  The team replaced our entire floor and stairway in our historic brownstone.  Most recently we've asked them to help with various patchwork and painting.
Rudy and his team are the best anyone could hope for.  Incredibly professional work and a true commitment to the highest standard of quality.  Working with his team, he helped us understand the options and arrive at a result that was better than I'd realized was possible.  
We had a baby coming in a matter of days, and unlike many contractors, we made it to the deadline and were able to bring our new daughter into a fully completed home.

We had a great experience working with Rudy!  He was responsive, punctual, and professional, and our wood floors turned out great.  Rudy's estimate was not the lowest we received (it was on the higher end), but we chose him because he seemed the most knowledgeable.  Besides his knowledge of hardwood floors, he was also the only one that looked at the 9 inch tiles under the layers of shag carpet and linoleum that needed to be removed on our lower level and instructed us to have the tiles tested because they were likely asbestos tiles given the age of the house and the size and appearance of the tiles.  I'm glad we did!  The tiles were definitely asbestos and needed to be removed by a certified asbestos abatement company.

Rudy and his crew customized the hardwood floor stain for us.  When it was first applied, my husband and I thought we had made a huge mistake.  The floors looked pink!  However, Rudy happily, and without an extra expense, worked with us to tweak the stain, and his crew reapplied it that same day.  The final product was amazing!  Everyone who comes over compliments the dark color of our floors, and I have already passed along Rudy's name to many of my friends and colleagues.  We enjoyed working with Rudy so much that we are now considering hiring him to paint our whole house.

Our old row house had a number of different types of moulding and door and window frames due to additions and repairs over the years in addition to some non functional transom windows on 2 doors which were either installed crookedly or had become very crooked over time. We wanted to replace all of this with trim that matched some of the original trim of the house to make the house look more polished without losing some of the best period details. We also had a funky closet in our spare bedroom that we could not really get to parts of because of it's really odd shape.

Additionally, though we had the plaster in most of the house repaired shortly after we purchased the house, it was not the best job, so several walls and ceilings need additional repairs in addition to painting. We had worked with Rudy for.a couple of other jobs and we're very pleased with the results and chose his team for this work because of their creativity and quality work. Rudy's team did a great job on our challenging project.

 In particular:
- they found great custom moulding that was consistent with the original period moulding, a really nice match!
- they had great suggestions for how to make the moulding a on two adjacent bedroom doors land a closet look even better than I imagined they could.
- they also had a suggestion for adding a recessed shelving unit to our bedroom wall to help us deal with the funky shaped closet.
- the wall repairs they made have held up for over a year....far better than the original contractor's work.

The finished rooms look great, and we could not be more pleased. We highly recommend Kustom Floors and continue to trust them with our ongoing renovations.

It was a great experience working with Rudy and his crew. We could have saved some money going with other contractors, but you get what you pay for. The day of the estimate, Rudy arrived on time, listened to us carefully, gave his honest opinion about what he would be able to do to set correct expectations. And I must say the work exceeded our expectations. We needed some minor electrical work and it would have been a challenge for me to coordinate the electrical work with everything else. Rudy suggested someone and quoted me a price for the work. I had taken estimates from other electricians before and Rudy's estimate for the electrical work was the best.

The new hardwood floors look fantastic. It matches the old hardwood we had in the living room. Rudy pointed out to me that the installation of the old hardwood floor was not done very well and I can easily see that when I compare it with the floors Rudy's men installed, and I am no expert. They matched the crown molding we had in the kitchen cabinets with the rest of the dining and living room and it looks beautiful. They took full care of the existing hardwood floors while working in my living room, covering it with hard plywood (not sure) sheets and there was no damage. 

The interior painting was done very well and we couldn't be happier about the walls. They met the timeline they estimated for the work and there were no surprises. During the process, I made requests for a couple of very minor fixes and Rudy agreed to those at no additional cost. The crew was professional. We were not at the house when they worked, but I visited the house from time to time. They were well mannered and they did an excellent job of cleaning after themselves. Also, throughout the process, communication with Rudy was excellent. I will use them in future and recommend them to others as well.

It went great.  Rudy is very professional and really knows what he's doing.  He was also great about communicating with me and telling me what was going on.  The crew showed up when they were supposed to  and were careful about everything, from moving the furniture to making sure the floors looked perfect.  Could not tell where parts of the floor had been replaced.

Rudy was excellent with communication.  He came out and spent time going over options, pointing out areas that had some water damage and uneven spacing in the floors.  We were on a bit of a budget, and Rudy did his best to come up with cost saving alternatives, such as sanding the existing railings, instead of replacing.  Their price was a bit more than the "cheap" guys in town for the staining alone, but it is because they use a higher quality professional grade finish on the floor - Bona Professional, and they really take the effort to make sure everything looks perfect.  On top of that, the other guys can't sand the hand rails, and were recommending that we replace them, which would have ended up costing more overall.  

The workers showed up on time, and make sure to leave the home clean each day, and even swept the garage clean before departure.  I would highly recommend you consult with them, and during your initial visit with Rudy, you will clearly see the difference, and the attention to detail their entire crew takes. The floors look amazing, I can't actually believe they are the same floors, take a look at the before and after photos.  The floors went from a yellowish very shiny with very little grain color to an awesome truly custom look.  On-top of it we were going to have to replace the carpet on the stars anyways, so it made sense to go ahead and made the stairs wood also.  The home looks totally different, and was money well spent!

Rudy and his crew, led by Elgar, were fantastic. They worked with me every step of the way, accommodated me on timing when I brought in my own plumber and my own electrician, and did a lot of things that most contractors would've insisted on a "change order" and extra charges for.
The basement was converted from raw unfinished concrete to a finished space with 2 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. Before KK could get started, I had my plumber re-route the hot water radiator piping and all of the house's water supply and drain pipes as high as possible up into the joist spaces, to create as much ceiling height as possible. My electrician did the same for the wiring.

 KK did the framing in 3 days, which was delicate work in some areas because the concrete outer walls curved slightly as they got close to the floor, so they had to be creative to get full use of the space. After framing, my plumber and electrician did their work. When they were done, KK came back and completed the drywall, painting, tiling, and carpet. This ended up being a complex job, and KK got it all done on schedule and on budget. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.
