I had to take them to court to get some of my money back. I wouldn't let them build a dog house for my dog I don't have.

Oh I did get a large judgment against them. By the way the people with the other review, I see they were having their work done at the same time. That's why they were having LOUSY time with their project. They were trying to do to much at one time. Which showed poor performance with the customers.
Description of Work: I had my house remodel by Haskins Anderson Design and Build LLC in the year 2013. The quality of work was very unprofessional and poor that I had to take legal action against them. The work that was stated in the contract was never done, they double billed, and left work and part of the house without electricity to this day. They have pictures of my kitchen on this website that were suppose to be take down. Let me tell you about the kitchen you see in the winter time you can't use the sink because they didn't insulate the pipe and the walls,so the pipe would freeze. There are more horror stories to be told.

The way things started out was a precursor to the way this transaction would go. There was some sort of miscommunication for the initial visit and no one showed up. My husband met with Lenny to review the space and shortly thereafter I met with Norissa to discuss design options. That went well and construction began. We purchased many of our own materials and delays in getting the flooring materials held up the construction process; however, there were problems reaching Lenny & Norissa and getting return phone calls eventually became an impossibility (they would only respond to e-mails and response time was very slow). Although the company was willing to do the work without going through the County inspection process, we decided that we wanted to have the inspection and approvals done. I'm glad we did. Once the construction process actually began, work had to be redone for one reason or another (usually because the county inspector didn't approve of something). At one point, a contractor left some light bulbs in the house without telling us for what turned out to be an extended process. It took a few months to deal with the problem and we cleaned up the area and the lights got thrown out (we thought they were part of the junk in a junk room). So the contractor comes out and we can't install the lights because they aren't there, and the contractor (via Lenny & Norissa charged us to come out again). We'd had the contractor come out once before because of concerns over the lights blowing out and overheating. Another problem was with the flooring, some wires magically disappeared and we had to pay to have someone come out and open the floor to pull the wires. Other problems included doors being put on backward and having to be redone, the inspector had electrical covers reinstalled because the ones used were not up to code for the planned use, walls had to be reopened because the light switches weren't put in the right place, etc. In any case, the work is finally done. It took us at least 2 weeks to get a response for Lenny or Norissa to our request to have the County inspector to come out do a final inspection. Phone calls, as usual, were not returned so we waited for an e-mail response. Norissa told me, via e-mail, that she would not be able to accompany the inspector but did give me the date and time range he would come out. Fifteen minutes after the inspector left, Norissa shows up at my door asking if the inspector had left. When I informed her that everything was done, she requested the payment of the $200 balance which we had agreed to withhold until after the inspection was complete, keep in mind, we'd already paid them thousands of dollars in a timely manner. We didn't have a problem paying them, we had a problem with not having phone calls or e-mails returned. Now we are waiting for a final invoice so that we have papers documenting that they've been paid. We selected Lenny & Norissa after seeing a neighbor's media room that they'd completed. The room was absolutely beautiful and our room is gorgeous as well but I would never use this group again. I feel that they were slow and unresponsive and I didn't like that the inspector had to come out so many times and found problems with things not being up to code. The other couple seemed to be pleased with their work, so I would say to use these guys at your own risk (and insist on inspections).
Description of Work: Design and install a media room.

Response from Haskins Anderson Design & Build
Thank you Angie's List for allowing our company to respond. I am Norissa Anderson, Vice President of Haskins Anderson Design & Build and our response is as follows: We sincerely thank the [member name removed] family for the opportunity to be one of the contractors that were hired to complete the media room project at your home. We are pleased that you stated that your media room is gorgeous and that you hired us because we came highly recommended. However, it is quite unfortunate that you feel this way regarding your experience with our company. But because we never worked with you directly throughout this project we are taken aback by your review. We can only wish that you would have contacted us directly to give us the opportunity to address your concerns. We really do value our customers and their opinions. We felt that it would be in poor taste and poor professionalism to not respond to your review but rather openly address the concerns you mentioned. My visit to your home was also our attempt in person to make sure that you and Mr. [member name removed] were satisfied. Not only to collect $200. I only wish again that you would have addressed your concerns with me at that time rather than using this platform to do so. Nonetheless, there a few inaccuracies in your review that need clarification. We are a general contractor, however, for your project Mr. [member name removed] acted as the project manager and hired the audio visual subcontractor and flooring subcontractors independent of our company. Mr. [member name removed] was in full control throughout your project. The price our company charged and was paid for our scope of work was not $22,000 it was well below that amount. Through out this past year, we have made a myriad of attempts via phone and emails to address the other issues that you mention. We are a transparent company and are always available via phone and/or email. Please accept my apologize personally as I didn’t realize that perhaps I should have been carbon copying you in on all of the emails or even trying to reach out you as well. Our scope of work for your project per our contract was for your project to be completed in 3 weeks which we did and there was no work left for us to perform until after your flooring was installed, the final inspection and close out of your permits. We were severely delayed in closing out the permits for your project because of the 8 month long dispute Mr. [member name removed] had with the flooring subcontractor that he hired and managed. I can’t help but wonder if they received such a review. Regarding the inspections, we strive to pass all of our county inspections 100% each time but there is always a possibility that a minor detail may be missed or need correction. That is the reason for the inspections process. They are meant to keep everyone involved informed on the quality of work being performed. That is also why we always inform our customers, Mr. [member name removed], of the process before hand and give you an expected completion date with these types of delays factored into the schedule. Yes, there were two issues the inspector requested that we correct. One being the switch being located too close to a doorway, it was corrected the same day and the inspection was approved. The second being an electrical box in the flooring riser, which was never a part of your original contract and was a last minute addition/change that Mr. [member name removed] requested during construction (because he purchased furniture that required an electrical plug) Again another change that you were never billed for. The timeline was the first inspection was completed and approved prior to our completion of the room and the second could not be done because your flooring was not installed on the risers for 8 months. On behalf of everyone at Haskins Anderson Design & Build, we again thank you and appreciate the opportunity to work for you. Feel free to contact us at 240-419-0018 if you would like to discuss in further detail. Norissa Anderson Haskins Anderson Design & Build, LLC.
