I thought we might have to replace the top, but they repaired it to satisfaction saving me money and preserving the original look of this desk my father made in the '60s. The cost included pick-up and delivery. They were the only firm I contacted with experience on inlaid leather tops. I cose them primarily for this reason and found their prices on the other items competitive with less experienced firms.
Description of Work: They refinished three pieces of furniture--a small drop-leaf cherry table, a side table, and a small single-drawer table. They also repaired acid burns in a black leather inlaid desk top. These were rings burnt from a draining flashlight battery accidently left on this top.

 + -1 moreI was able to send them photos of all of the various pieces for which I needed estimates, so they were able to give me a general price for all of the things I needed done, including whether or not they could be done on site at the house. Overall the experience was great. The scheduler/office manager was helpful and responsive. I got a reminder card in the mail confirming the appointment and I even got a thank you not with a comment card and little free sticky pad of notes from their company. All in all - very nice. I will use them again.
Description of Work: I have a number of antiques, many of which are inherited, but many of which need a little extra TLC. I had two specific pieces in my dining room - a large armoire and a butler cabinet - that needed to be repaired so that I could use them. (I had just moved into this house a month ago.) I had them provide an estimate on repairing and refurbishing a number of pieces of furniture but I only had them come and work on these two pieces. The service person showed up right on time and was extremely professional. Everything was kept neat and tidy and the work was done in less than two hours. I was impressed by the way that he solved the problem of some missing trim on the butlers cabinet. He took a mold of some existing trim, and then using some special wood filler material created a "patch" for the missing trim, which he shaped and stained to match the piece. The repair looks great! The other repair on the armoire was a simple hinge repair where the wood had cracked a bit. That was handled great as well.

 + -1 moreThe guy who came out did not know how to fix this. He did not balance the doors and was going to saw things off until I stopped him. He had wood filler that he used which was not appropriate for use on antiques. I have had good results in the shop but for calling someone out, I did not have a good experience. I had to ask him to leave. Resolution: The owner came to my home to look at the things that were not fixed up to my standards. He took the chair that they repaired in the past and re-repaired it properly, very satisfactory work done on their part. The owner came to make good because he knew he had a bad report and he did a great job of following up with me.
Description of Work: They sent someone out to my home to fix an antique desk whose doors would not close properly. Resolution: The owner found out that there was a poor review, apologized for the bad experience. He came to my home to take of the things that they had done poor work on.

They were very careful loading all of the parts and pieces in to the truck. My daughter said that when they brought it into her home they were very careful. She pointed a couple of things out that hadn't been done and there was just a miscommunication between the office, my daughter, and myself. I am still waiting for them to come back to complete the work.

 + -1 moreThey provided an informal quote by email based on pictures I sent. When I was ready ( they were patient with my 2-month delay) we set up a pickup appointment. They arrived on time, but provided no receipt to acknowledge they had my property. The repairs took a couple weeks, and they were very good about contacting me to clarify what I did and did not want done. The final price matched the estimate. I lack a basis for price comparison of such work; the price seemed a bit high but they did a fine job.
Description of Work: Repaired broken and separated leg brace on an antique dining room buffet; repaired cracks with the grain in panels; cleaned and polished. Price included transport to and from workshop.

Bill arrived exactly on time and provided us an estimate and the details of the work to be done. We agreed and he proceeded to fix the table right there in our home. Upon completion he figured the exact price and it came out less than the estimate. We are tremendously satisfied with the service and the quality of work. In fact, after the holidays we will contact Bill for further work on other pieces of furniture.

 + -1 moreVery, very well! They picked up the chairs (and told me the name of the person coming in advance) and had the chairs back in about 3 weeks. The chairs now feel strong when we sit on them instead of wobbly! They also did a very good job of refinishing the chairs. When they first got the chairs they realized the damage was more extensive; 3 generations of children can do that. So there was a small increase in the per chair charge, but they called and told me first. As I had only emailed pictures for an estimate, I was not surprised that more work was necessary.
Description of Work: I have a dining room set that is about 100 years old made of mahogany that belonged to my great grandmother and at which I grew up eating. The chairs had started to come apart, particularly the cross bars connecting the legs. I had the chairs repaired, and the seats restuffed and new upholstery put on. They also cleaned up any scratches etc.

When I called up to schedule the work and indicated that it was a serial repair job (i.e., I didn't plan to have the chairs done all at once), the lady I spoke to suggested that I bring the chairs to them. She added that while GRand AR would be happy to collect the chair(s) at my home if that was more convenient, this way there would be no a pickup/delivery charge. I brought each chair in turn to the Ft. Washington office. Each chair was ready within the time estimate given and the work was excellent.
Description of Work: Repaired and cleaned up a set of oak chairs that have been in my family for many years. The rear left leg of one of the chairs had broken and I wasn't sure that it would even be possible to repair. However the folks at Georgetown Refinishing & Antique Restoration not only repaired it but they did a beautiful job. You can't even tell where the break had been. The other chairs were loose/squeaky and grimy. A great job was done on them as well.

 + -1 moreWe did not want the chest to be made "new" but wanted it to retain its character -- to be repaired and protected for the future. The top was loose, there was a large water stain on the top and one of the casters had collapsed. We took photos and submitted them via e-mail, and received a quote for the work which we accepted. They picked up early in the morning (7am) which suited us, and also returned it 4-5 weeks later at the same time. The grain on the chest shows clearly, the work has been beautifully done and the company was very courteous and prompt. I will use them again for sure.

 + -1 moreThe crew came precisely on time. Removed the furniture despite the tight quarters. The piece came back looking exactly as promised, refreshed but not "new". The crew was equally careful when they returned the piece to us. This is a family antique of modest intrinsic but great sentimental value. These people are pleasant, helpful and honest and deliver skillful results. The price was exactly as quoted.
Description of Work: Refinished an early 20th century walnut and glass china closet. Repaired and replaced decorative molding. Repair is complete and invisible to the eye (naked or otherwise). Replaced mirrored glass insert.
