It went well. They were very professional. They said it was going to be about 5 weeks. They came out and did it in the time they said they would. I was pretty pleased.

I originally used Long Fence for some fencing about 5 yerars ago. It went well so I decided to try again. I got several bids this time and they were not the lowest but I decided that thier quility was worth the extr aexpense. The fence turned out grest. Just the way we wanted it. However, the original install was incorrect becasue the correct size boards for a dip in a hill were not clear on the work order from the salesman.. I did not panic but called their Customer Satisfaction Representaandtive, Cindy Zick. She immediately took the problem and 'ran with it'. She went out of her way to get special pieces cut, to get a reinstall date and to get it done 'better than good.' The Jose Zeleya came back and fixed it just perfectly, just as he was pleased and proud to do This may be one of the reasons to use Long fence. They really do stand behind their product and make the customer happy.

Long Fence contracted to install metal fence. They came and installed the wrong gate in one area. They also installed the double gates 6 inches off from each other. They then explained that the ground was not level and they did not dig. The quality control supervisor Mr. Dalton came out and agreed that the work was wrong and that they would fix it. We were never contacted again. Mr Dalton doen't answer or return phone calls. My husband used a rake to smooth the area (approx 15 minutes) and called the main number. He was then able to talk to the guys that actually did the install. They then figured out that they need to order two more posts and told us that it would be several weeks. Please note that during the "sale" of the fence we were told that the area was uneven and that it was a simple smooth job. They negleted to mention that they wouldn't smooth it. Also, they dumped all of the left over dirt and rocks from digging the holes directly outside of my yard in clear view of the house. I asked that they remove their trash. Still not done. Please use anyone but Long Fence.

Nobody showed up during the scheduled day/time.
Description of Work: I called Long Fence because they were highly recommended and have name recognition - however they failed to show up yesterday (26 July) from 4-6PM as scheduled. No call, no show. They still haven't called to reschedule or apologize. Waste of my time. Their loss, it was a 3 property 750+ feet of fence in need of replacement.

Very poor experience. Disappointments included: - grossly underestimating the time needed for job completion. they initially said 2 days...it took over three weeks due to many unnecessary starts and stops to job - incorrect materials brought to job by sub-contractors (the sales contract called for cedar fencing, the sub brought pressure treated lumber by mistake...we said to just go with it, since obtaining the cedar materials would take and quot;6-8 weeksand quot;) - poor construction that created a tilted and un-level top to the fence - evidence of poor communication between project manager and crew - incomplete clean-up of work sight....dirt, dust and concrete debris left in parking lot adjacent to new fence
Description of Work: replacement of wooden pressure treated fence surrounding small yard around townhome. Fence posts and gate needed replacementt as well

I called Long Fence and scheduling an appointment was easy. The could easily be reached and were friendly and accommodating. The had Saturday appointments available which made it easier. The day of (April 30th) the Long Fence representative was about 1/2 hour late so I thought I was being stood up since he did not call to let me know he was running late. He asked me the appropriate questions, I showed him photos of the fence I had in mind, he left promotional brochures and he said he would e-mail me a quote on Monday. [I also got a quote for a wrought iron fence on the spot].I did not get the quote that Monday but the following Sunday (5/8). The quote was for $8,404.90 "discounted" to $6,303. Based on quotes from other vendors and work friends and colleagues had done I was surprised by the big amount so dropped him an e-mail asking for a break-down to be able o truly compare "apples to apples", i.e. my other quotes. I dropped him 3 e-mails and he never responded. I finally called the DC office and the person there said that she was going to see him at a meeting on Monday and she would call me back with the answer. No call. I called again this past Friday (June 3rd). The Customer Service Rep said that nobody would be able to answer any questions about the quote as it is only good for 30 days thus it has now expired. I would have to schedule a new quote. Based on this experience I decided to choose another vendor. Long Fence clearly was not interested in my business.
Description of Work: I am looking to have the chainlink fence at the back of my house replaced with a wood fence and gate - horizontal 4 inch wide planks, 1/2 inch apart, cedar. This is a DC rowhouse so the space is fairly small but big enough to park a car and still have patio space.

The initial estimate service was prompt and well done- there was a 3-4 week delay before the services actually began- Workers arrived early on the day assigned and did a fine job removing the old fence and installing the new- preserving some of the shrubbery around the fence- and removed the old fence and shrubbery that needed to be cut down Overall very well done
Description of Work: Long fence provided an estimate that beat out their competitors - they rmeoved an old metal fence that had shrubbery intertwined in it (needing removal as well) and put in a split rail wooden fence aroung the property

very unprofessional and unable to communicate well. very over priced.
Description of Work: while long fence builds a sturdy fence, the cost is well over five thousand. i have had the fence for nearly 7 years with little trouble except for the gate, which all homeowners will experience. its just a matter of physics. weight of the fence will cause it to sag over time. now long fence charge 350.00 minimum just to come out. add new hardware, ie hinges and you are up to 440.00 to install new hinges. it should also be noted that long only uses two hinges. three would help out a great deal. they did install a third hinge on this repair. the workman for hispanic and didnt speak hardly any english. this did do a good job in repairing with me standing there making sure they did it correctly. it took some advice how to do what needed to be done. in the end i watched as the head worker was putting his tools away and proceeded to urinate in my street before he left. nice. i would suspect that there are many more qualified people on angie's list that would be more professional and cheaper.

Around 3pm today, I received a phone call from the service person. I told him we wanted to have the railiing checked and secured. Without even seeing the deck railing, he indicated there would be a $925 minimum charge to do the work and possibly more depending on what needed to be done upon his inspection. He asked if I had a husband and suggested that he could crawl under the deck to tighten the bolts and/or add braces. (My husband has had both knees replaced and cannot kneel which is why I called someone to do the work in the first place.) Needless to say, I cancelled the appointment. I called the Long Fence office to let them know what had transpired with the service call. The manager returned my call and explained that indeed there would be a $500 service charge + $175 for pulling County permits + the cost of the actual labor. According to him, the permits are required to protect Long Fence from future liability should someone be injured as a result of work performed. Two things: (1) the two "minimum charges" did not match and (2) we could have saved a lot of time and trouble if the scheduler had informed me of their pricing/liability policy when I called to make the appointment. Suggest that in the future, Long Fence disclose this info to potential customers when the request for an apppointment is made and add this information to their website. If this is their "official" policy, they should not be reluctant to put it in writing so people looking for services are better informed before contacting them.
Description of Work: Situation: Purchased a builder's model home in 2001 that had a small wood deck attached to the back at ground level. That year, we hired a professional to enlarge the deck and add stairs (3 steps) to the yard. Last month, we had a home inspection done in preparation for putting our home on the market. Even though the deck railing was not loose, the inspector felt that it should have additional braces installed to make it more secure ("just in case four big guys leaned against it at the same time"). I called the Long Fence office in Chantilly, VA earlier this week, explained the situation to their scheduler, and made an appointment for today between 4-6pm.

The Long Fence rep responded promptly, and gave us an accurate estimate. When the actual work force arrived this morning, they were nothing short of impressive. Removal of the old fence was speedy, and the crew immediately set to work setting new posts and installing new rails. They even sent out workers to sweep up debris from our street, and to gather up the sawdust from on-the-spot work. We are delighted with the results, and so are our neighbors!

They did an excellent job. We have a pretty large deck with French doors opening on to. We got the octagon shape so we’ll have room for a hot tub if we decide to get it. We call Long Fence every time we need something done. Their prices don’t always fall into line with everyone else’s but the work is definitely worth it. They also replaced our windows six or seven years ago and that was a godsend. Last year there was a snowstorm and the house never got below 42 degrees even though we went four days without electricity. We've gotten estimates on other things but we ended up going with other companies. We will absolutely use them again.

The fence project was a snap. Job done perfectly in no time. Deck work went smoothly and efficiently in reasonable time after neighborhood association and county permit process concluded. Two installers took great care in measurements and asked for clarifications/preferences at points that were ambiguous in plans. They made suggestions and listened to preferences. The only delay in the process was the county inspector, who unexpectedly broke from scheduled visit to take a holiday break--without informing the crew. Salesman/designer remained in touch with the process. There was a slight delay in the cleanup, which he took care of within 24 hours. Overall, I am totally satisfied with the quality of the end result and the professionalism of those involved.
Description of Work: Replacement of split rail fence of approximately 100' length, including gate. Installation of new deck in pressure treated wood (18" above ground) with rails, about 400 sq ft overall. Two sets of stairs (two steps each) and one gate above one set of steps.

It went well; however, there were some issues with the timing of the installation. Estimator worked with me to get the fence I wanted (including changes to the contract afterwards). The only problem was that they stated there was a three week time between signing the contract and when they would be able to construct the fence. However, they didn't call to schedule the fence construction, but they cashed my deposit check. As a result, the fence was installed six weeks after it was originally scheduled.

This review is a "tale of two cities". The rep who came out to the do the estimate, and the crew who put in the fence itself, were outstanding. They were prompt, professional, and did great work. Unfortunately, the administrative functions of Long Fence leave a lot to be desired. We originally requested an estimate on 27 Aug, and we signed a contract that day. We received 3 other similar estimates but Long Fence offered 12 months no interest financing, so we went with them. We anticpated having the fence done at the end of the following week, or within two weeks at the latest. I have a security check placed on my credit in order to prevent ID theft. This simply requires any business to personally verify my identity before setting up any new accounts in my name. Althought not an issue for mutiple other businesses, it caused major problems for Long Fence. Apparently they put my account "on hold" for several days, and then finally sent the field rep back out to my house to "verify" my identity and call the fiance company (Wells Fargo) from my home. Once I got on the phone with Wells Fargo, the issue was cleared in a few seconds. At this point I fully expected the fence to be installed the the next week, which would have been three weeks after signing the contract...not optimal, but things happen. By Thursday of the next week I still had not received a call from Long's to schedule the installation, so I called them. The lady in charge of residential fence scheulding (there is apparently only one person who does this) appologized...apparently "finance" had not informed her that my account was "off of hold", so she had not scheuled the installation. To make matters worse, she had to reschedule the utility markings (which had been done once before) because the makings are only good for 15 days. What a mess. She finally scheduled the installation for the next week. The crew who put in the fence did a great job, especially in light of the fact our yard has some very steep slopes and odd angles. They dealt with several installation issues and left the work area clean and neat, to include removing the dirt that came from the fence post holes. The fence looks great and they were done in 2-days...unfortunately it was 2 weeks late. I'd like to point out that at no time in any of this process did the adminstrative office from Long Fence ever contact me...I had to initiated ALL communication with them. To top it all off, after screwing up the paperwork and causing the installation be be at least 2 weeks late, I would have expected some form of compensation such as an offer of a discount off the final price, but that didn't happen. All-in-all the product Long Fence finally delivered was top-notch, thier field rep and installation crew did a great job, but thier customer service was severly lacking. UPDATE**12 Oct Although my fence still looks great, I never received a bill/invoice from Long Fence. Their finance office finally called me on 11 Oct and left a voicemail...I assume they are calling about the payment. The voicemail was left at 2:50-ish...when I called the person back at 3:20, they were "gone for the day" so I left a voicemail of my own. This morning I called from work and once again the person was not available, so this time I left another message with my work number. No communication as of yet....at least the poor customer support is consistent...
Description of Work: Long Fence installed a 4-ft high slatted fence to enclose our backyard. The back of the fence transitioned from wood to 4-ft high black chain link. Three gates were also installed, one each in the wooden fence on thier side of the house and one in the chain link. The wooden portion of the fence was approx 100 ft and the chain link was about 30 ft.

This is a very large company, and they are very aggressive in promoting their business. They were referred to me by my neighbors. They were very expensive. They did the job when I was not there. When I checked there was some damage in the material. I informed them about this, and they came back and finished that job. The fence door latch does not sit properly and another person had the same problem. So I do not know if this is a problem with the product. I am yet to call them for this. They left the raw wood in my backyard. They hid it under my deck. I would not recommend them because of the way they promote themselves. They raise their price first and then bring it down. They are very expensive. They finished the work very early and did not give me a chance to see what they did.
