Although the provider deviated from our plan for the gate and fence on the lower side of the house, the result was still acceptable and appealing. The gate no longer latches easily, due to minor shifting of the hinge-side post, but after several years, that was not unexpected by me.

Job went fine. Salesman was friendly and knowledgeable. We put a down payment and were contacted by the individual who would be doing the measuring. We scheduled for him (actually two guys showed up) to come and perform the detailed measurements including any instructions we were requesting. They came on time and were very professional and friendly. They only took about a half hour to 45 minutes to take the measurements. We then had a waiting period while the railings and window guard were fabricated to our specifications. They called and an individual showed up a little late but he was able to get the window guard installed. He indicated that he wanted to get larger caps that fit where the railings were sunk into the cement porch and would come back first thing in the am the next day to finish up. He was as good as his word. We were not even home. When we got home everything was in place. We were very satisfied. Received an invoice in the mail a couple weeks later and completed payment.

I deployed within a few months of this so I had not written up a review. The representative came to the house. They do not do that sort of building. So, I explained that this was specifically what I has asked about and since they do not do that, sorry for his time. He tried repeatedly to sell me on a room extension attached to the house and kept asking to go inside to evaluate the possibilities. The only place that a room could be put is the back of the house and at yard level there is not enough space. He was really pushing about putting one on the second floor at the back. I said, well you told me already that your company does not do rooms that have glass cielings. He agreed all the "windows" or sunlight exposure would be from the back/sides. I live in an end unit townhouse...side windows....don't offer much except the opportunity to creep out my neighbors and back windows would look right over the fence to the woods. I explained to him that, people walk along the back fence all hours of the day and night including homeless people and day laborers who leave beer and alcohol bottles out back...so no, I do not want MORE windows they can see into, it would be like living in a fish bowl! I would only consider a sunroom addition if the main natural light came from the ceiling. "Well, we don't do that." Exactly, thank you for your time, please leave. It took another 20 minutes asking AND telling him to leave, then finally threatening him with bodily harm if he did not (he kept asking to see the room to evaluate it and measure for an addition..that we had both already established that I did not want)!! To make matters worse, Long continued to call me to try and sell me on any service, I repeatedly told them to stop calling me and take me off of their list. When I got back from deployment....I had voicemails and got two more calls. It has now, thankfully, been about five months since I got a marketing call. I don't like hardsell, and I will be polite to a point, but that was just ridiculous! I will never use Long fence for anything and regret ever being in any sort of contact with them.
Description of Work: Asked them about a sunroom installation over a pool with the top being glass. They said yes they did buildings like this and sent an estimator.

The sales person came to do an estimate. This process was very smooth and fast. However after that the whole process took double the time than I was quoted. There was a problem with the paperwork for my city permit. Despite the fact that I called once a week to see what was taking so long, no one checked on the permit, so it sat at the city office not moving for weeks. When I finally found a customer service agent who would actually answer and reply to my calls, after a lot of conversations I finally managed to get the permit paperwork corrected. Then it took another full week to complete the work. The whole process took 8 weeks, and I was told by the sales agent it would be 2 weeks (4 weeks absolute max). Then when the work was being done, the men did the bare minimum and I had to check on it a couple of times. They left some poles sticking out of the ground from the old fence, and only removed them when I asked.

We ask that the fence be installed before Thanksgiving. The sales person indicated that he would do his best. We paid a third downpayment at the time of contract signing. The Tuesday before Thanksgiving we had not heard from Long Fence so we decided to call them ourselves. We were told that they would be able to install the fence in the beginning of December. So we took the opportunity to contact the salesperson to modify the gate sizes and add a wire on the bottom so that dog would not dig out. We explained to the salesperson that we had been granted financing over the amount of the balance and we would like to use the overage to cover the cost of the changes. He said okay. A few weeks after the fence was installed we received an invoice from Long Fence requesting that we pay for the change order. We explained that since we received financing over what was due, they could recoup the funds for the change order from the account that was set up. We offered to give them the account number. The accounting person said it would not be necessary. A few weeks later someone else called us from the accounting department at Long Fence claiming to be in collections. I again explained the overage and that the change order is less that the total amount finance and that they should simply charge the overage to the account. The accounting supervisor says no that we have to pay it. To make a long story short--- we stuck to our grounds and forwarded Long Fence the credit card number and told them to charge the change order to the card, if they did not we would not be responsible. Instead to changing the change order to the card, they attempted to change three times the amount due and the credit issuers declined the charges. We did not know at the time that this had happened until Long Fence called us to say the charge was decline. We contacted the issuer and we were informed that Long Fence attempt to process a charge that exceeded the financing amount and that was why it was declined.. We gave Long Fence another opportunity to do thing right and then we would consider the debt paid. They eventually charged the balance to the card and the matter resolved. We will not likely do business with Long Fence again.
Description of Work: Needed a perimeter fence to contain our dog. We wanted four gates of varying sizes. The backyard is pretty large so we wanted to enclose just a portion of the perimeter in the back and the driveway in the front without a gate.

A terrible experience that I shouldn't have to pay for out of my own pocket.
Description of Work: A couple of months after I moved into my home in 1992, I had Long Fence install a chain link fence in my back yard. Since I had recently moved in, all of the property markers were still in place. My right property line meets the back property line at a 90 degree angle. My left property line meets the back property line at a 70 degree angle. When Long Fence installed the chain link fence, they "flipped" my lot so they installed all but 6" of the 200' fence on the left side on my neighbors property and the right side is installed almost 7 feet on my property, instead of along the property line. A number of issues caused me to have a fence survey done in March 2013 and this was discovered. I contacted Long Fence and they came out and confirmed that the fence had been installed incorrectly. They agreed to remove the fence from my neighbor's property but only if I would allow them to install the new fence I was planning. Unfortunately, their bid for the new fence was almost twice as much as the other estimates I obtained. They offered to move the fence on the other side for twice as much as other estimators. I estimated that Long Fence would have made far more money fixing their mistake than they made when they did the original install. Since so much time has passed, I have no legal recourse. Long Fence is a large company and should be willing to do the right thing, even if legally they don't have to.

Long Fence is reputable. They did a good job on our fence. Their work was very good and they even came back out a couple of days later to make sure everything was okay. They were pretty good for us. We had no problems with them. They did a very good job and everything was put in very professionally. It was level. I couldn't find an issue with their workmanship. The warranty on the wood was for lifetime. Their crews were excellent. Very courteous and came in and talked with us. Everything was very good. The gates still work well and it is still all level. My fence is just a cut above my neighbor's who went with a different company. The material is what made me go with them. There was some miscommunication. They ran a little behind and there was one time when he didn't come out when originally planned, but they did apologize when it came to the estimate. The crews were always on time and the work was finished on time. We are thinking of having them come out and have them do a deck for us; it is just the price that is holding us back right now. I really don't have any negative to say about them.

The salesperson gave us an estimate for a fence and a deck. We asked if we could round the entire project to $25,000 and the salesperson, with permission, or so he said agreed. When the final bill arrived the agreed upon price was not reduced. Thankfully we kept the email exchange so we did get the agreed upon price. The difference was ~$340. Our contract was for a fence with 1and quot; X 6and quot; pickets. The fence sections were anywhere from 4' 9and quot; to over 9'. None of the sections were the same size and there were various sizes of pickets in each section. We called the supervisor and he looked at the fence and agreed to replace it. The second fence was better but still had different size pickets in each section. The sections were more standardized but still not correct. We were told the workers would arrive around 8am. They usually arrived between 9:30 and 10:00am. Since it was summer they generally left early because it was hot. The workers damaged or totally destroyed many of my shrubs and flowers. One of the workers had his wife/girlfriend show up and stay for more than 30 minutes. She left a young girl, who was probably about 4 or 5 unattended in our driveway while she visited with one of the workers in the backyard. We had problems with one of the gates not shutting. They continued to replace one of the posts. We finally gave up and repacked the dirt and propped the post up plumb because we were just tired of dealing with Long Fence. So far our repair seems to work fine. At the same time they replaced our deck. The salesperson said they could replicate the design we had. When the deck builder showed up he said he could NOT replicate the design with composite material. We were also told that we could use the original posts by the salesperson. And no, we could not use the original posts which severely damaged the slate patio below the deck when the posts were replaced. Repair to the patio will be over $400. The man who built the deck seemed very professional and spent time explaining how the new deck would have to be built to be within code. The deck, although not the design promised by the salesman is a nice enough deck. I would never recommend Long Fence for any work. The salesman totally misrepresented what Long Fence could do.
Description of Work: We had our fence and deck replaced. We wanted the fence replaced exactly as the one we had before with the exception that instead of Gothic posts we use regular posts with caps. We also wanted our deck replaced with the exact same design as the first one. The only difference was that we used composite material versus all wood.

The stump removal, wall and paver portions of the project were turned over to a subcontractor who was constantly cutting corners. I even found him burying their lunch trash in my project. He was often not available and the workers didn't speak English. There never were enough workers applied to the job to meet the time frame I was given by the salesman. The contract was let on 14 May. Work was finally finished on 14 August.. The salesman told me, and the contract read, that the work would take approximately 2 weeks. Weather was not a problem. I was told, and understood, that a large portion of my turf would be torn up. I was also told that it would be repaired and that any damages to my neighbor's lawns would be repaired, also. I had to call for sod several times before the areas promised were covered. The sod provided was of such poor quality that my heavy watering couldn't revive a lot of it. When the pieces of sod were placed, large open areas between the pieces were left. These people were not professional sod installers. The only portion of this contract that went really well was the installation of the fence. So far, it's great. I would never recommend this company for any patio, paver or retaining wall work.
Description of Work: The project involved removing 17 tree stumps, installing 500+ feet of Nicolock versa wall, 198 Sqft of pavers and 110 feet of black chain link fencing. NOT a small project.

The salesman who came out was pleasant and professional. However, each time we discussed various options and possible changes to the proposal, which involved several different projects, long periods of time would pass without a response. We called the company and were assured by the head of customer service that she would investigate and get back to us promptly. It has been over three months since we first contacted the company and a month since we were assured by customer service that they would respond. So far, silence.

The job was scheduled for June 11, 2012 and it was completed that day. They took away the old and installed the new one. I don't know what time they finished but at 4pm they only had the posts up. The person who takes care of things for me when I'm gone asked them for the paperwork, they said they had none, then just left the paperwork on the porch, no envelop, not in door, nothing. Upon inspection there were a few things that were apparent, the gate posts were uneven, one fence post was not at all level(yes I checked each of them), one section of fence dipped, the tops of the gate weren't sanded and the area was left a mess. There were nails, screws and chunks of wood all around. The old holes weren't filled in and they didn't even clean up the saw dust. I know it's a fence but still. I called and they sent out a different crew on June 18, 2012 to inspect and fix those items I had mentioned. They evened out the gate posts on one side, but cracked the vinyl post cap and it now didn't fit the post in fact it was now titled. The other items were taken care of although after doing an inspection, I think they would have noticed that the other gate posts were also uneven. So I called again today about the other gate and the cracked vinyl cap and they are supposed to take care of it this week. They told me that if the terrain was uneven the posts and fence would be too. Really, don't they have a ruler? I've had fences installed on uneven terrain and the fence was even. We'll see if they get it right finally. I'm not sure if I would use them or not. I had them install my windows and was very happy, so maybe I just got a bad crew. Overall, I'm giving them a C.
Description of Work: I had received an estimate from Long Fence to replace my existing 2 tier split rail fence with a 3 tier split rail. It was approximately 248 linear feet. The job was scheduled for June 11, 2012 and it was completed on that day. The also installs 2 new gates.

From start to finish, Long's did an excellent job helping us decide on and then installing our fence. The fence was installed with a week of obtaining the permit from the county. The base price was a bit more expensive than other companies we priced, but with the sale they were running, it came out substantially cheaper. We couldn't be happier with the end result.

Long Fence provided us a quote for a fence with a "35%" discount. They have their official stock prices (supposedly 10000 for the fence) on the contract , which no one actually pays, and then they have the "discounted" price (the 6500) that your sales rep gives you and is comparable to market prices. Long Fence has a coupon online for $1500 for jobs over 6000 dollars, and I called to have that applied to the quote we received recently. They said it doesn't not apply if there are any other discounts involved. This is ridiculous because ALL of their prices are "discounted" from their official prices substantially, and therefore no one can actually use the coupon. It is a scam. I told the sales rep that, and his comment was that once in a while a millionaire pays the stock price because they don't care about the real market value. I was appalled and will look for another company that is more straightforward with their pricing and that doesn't use false advertising.

I was (and am) not happy with my fence at all. The workers quickly slapped it up. They didn't follow my instructions for a flat top gate and gave me a curved gate. They fashioned the gate so that it opened inward, which doesn't work for my small yard. When I questioned that, they said "we always construct them so that they open inward. The gate stuck, so I had them come back, and they shaved the gate. I discovered that the gate post was not properly cemented and was loos, so I had them come back and re-cement the post for the gate and a tall post of a 6 foot segment that was also loose. When the gate post was re-set, the gate that was shaved them became too narrow. Within a year an 8 foot segment of the fence bowed dramatically. I had them replace the section, which they charged me for because unfortunately I waited until after the 1 year warranty was up. Three years later the new section of fence still hasn't weathered fully and doesn't match the balance of the fence in color, despite my cleaning the old section. Additionally, my yard slants downward, and the workers didn't account for that. Instead of a gradual decline in the fence, it progresses at the same level and then the last segment tilts at a sharper angle. This means that there is about a 5 foot section that doesn't meet the ground by about 8 inches. Based on my experience I would recommend that people not use Long Fence.

I am not happy with them because I don't feel that they did a very good job in making sure that the area that they prepared for the decking was done properly. The decking itself had to be redone a couple of times just because they had done such a poor job of it. The boards had cracked because of the way that they had cut them and laid them. If they couldn't handle a very small job, I can't imagine what they would do with a large deck. They did a fair job of coming back out and dealing with the problems which I had. I would never use them again or recommend them to anybody.
