Long Fence

Larry from Long Fence gave me an estimate. He was prompt, professional and knowledgable, and he told me he was giving me the best price he could up front. I was disappointed in the amount of time it took between my signing the contract and the installation of the fence. This took over eight weeks. During installation of the fence, the workers threw the dirt they had dug up for the posts in my garden. This really bothered me because they seemed to have little consideration for the work it takes to maintain a garden; however, I did not report this to Long Fence. Also, the fence was not leveled at the bottom and looked unfinished. The woman in charge of customer satisfaction (I can't remember her name) explained that this occurred because my yard was not leveled. Plus there were bright "Ls" on almost every board. I voiced my dissatisfaction to Long Fence, and the woman from customer satisfaction along with Steve (I think that was his name) went out of their way to rectify the problems and make sure I was satisfied. In the end, I was happy with the finished product. I'm giving them a "B" on Quality instead of a "C" because the problems were rectified. I'm giving them an "A" on Professionalism and Responsiveness because Larry was very pleasant and easy to work with, and the woman from customer satisfaction was very responsive and seems very skilled in customer service. I would probably use Long Fence again because I feel that my satisfaction is important to the company.

I liked the end result. The deck they built is great, it is exactly what we wanted. It is extremely well built and good quality. Getting there was like pulling teeth. It was a lot of back and forth trying to get what we wanted. In the end, I think becasue we had so many issues, they gave us a fair price. I don't think we would have ended up with a deck near as nice with another company that would also be up to code. There was a mess in the back yard and I had to show them before and after pictures before they would finally come out and clean it up. I am a stay at home mom and I felt like I was the project manager. If I was working I feel like the project would have flopped. I felt like the original price for what they proposed was a rip off, but in the end we got something I am very happy with.

This is the second time I have worked with Long Fence and their service as usual was excellent. I set up a convenient time for an in home estimate. Their representative arrived on time and provided me with a detailed break down of the cost and accounted for a 25 percent internet discount in the pricing. The cost for the porject was more than I expected but given the company's quality I felt that it was acceptable. Long Fence then dispatched a team to install the fence several weeks later (the fence had to be custom made which is why there was a longer than usual turnaround time) and it was installed without any problems. My only complaint is that Long Fence did not contact me to let me know they would be coming to install the fence and as such their work disrupted an event that I had planned for the day they ended up coming.

Our covenant specified that the fence had to be like the paddock fencing that runs around horse farms - it had to be either a three or a four board fence, and we chose to go with the four board fence. We used 2 by 4 oak for the fence. The fence doesn’t meet code for our pool, and so we have two fences now - a fence around the yard and a fence around the pool. They had the most competitive bid compared to the other providers we checked. They were pretty standard in their design. They were very responsive. When I met them to do the quote, they were always prompt, and the work was done very quickly and professionally. The fence looks great. They enclosed three and a half acres, and I don’t think there is even one post that is put in wrongly. They put a mesh wire behind it so that the dog can’t get out. I would rate them highly and would use them in the future, if necessary.

They did a wonderful job. They did not charge me more than what I thought it would cost. They sent a person who ordered the required materials to finish a fence and then they did the job. I had no problems with them because they came on time and were responsive. I was very happy with the fence as they matched their work with the half-finished fence.

They did the fencing work for us and it is falling down. I really don’t like them. I just saw a house couple of streets down had the fence put up by Long Fence and half of it is broken already. So, I would not recommend them to anyone.

Very poorly. Never again with Long Fence - poor workmanship, quality control and follow-up. Very unprofessional.

Do not use this company. They will tell you whatever they think you want to hear and then take your money and won't perform the service. They were unprofessional and work that they did for a neighbor was mis-measured and then never completed. We ended up getting out of our contract with Long Fence after contacting an attorney.

It was horrible customer service, I requested they let me know before the started, so I could insure the area was ready for invasive construction,,,,,,just showed up. Had my neighbor call me at work so I could go home so they could have power access, got home, they had a generator, they just did not want to use it, but at that point they had hooked it up. Absolutely no supervisor around during the work being done, no one called after I called to tell them wrong fence was going up, now they are calling me for remaining payment, I sent a lettter explaining it all again, as they insist on calling my house during day, I get home, it is too late to call, there office is then closed.

Overall, it went well. The fence was installed competently and on time. Some of the materials used (pressure treated 2X4s) have deteriorated faster than I would have expected. I did not get an estimate or bids because I was in a hurry. Many people I have talked to since rolled their eyes when I told them how much the job cost and said I could have done a LOT better with another contractor.

They built two sections of fence, but had to come back and redo it because it was not well done, then they didn't lean up their debris and my dog cut her foot, almost bleeding to death, emergency vet fees aside, this was way too expensive for the hassle. Over the year we've had to replace the post for the gate, because it wasn't sunk properly and the gate didn't close.

Their illegal aliens destroyed plants and bushes, no regard for surroundings. Were weeks late starting. Poor clean up even though we paid to remove the old fence. I'm still cleaning up cement and old fence parts. Over priced for what you get. Should be about half of what they charge.

After installation, the wood used split and twisted. The joints came apart and it took much effort to get them to come out and repair the work that was still under warranty. The bad wood was never replaced.

Had the highest estimate, but I thought the company reputation would be worth the extra cost. Once I had HOA approval for the fence I called the sales person to schedule the install. He promised to have Miss Digg come out one week, and the install crew would be out the next week. Miss Digg came on time, but the install crew never showed up. I called to find out what was going on only to find out the install was never scheduled. They setup the installation for the following Monday. Monday morning I got a call saying they didn't have all the parts needed for install. No explanation of when they WOULD have the parts even though they had 3 full weeks to prepare. I decided the extra money was no longer worth the company name so I called to cancel. After a long discussion with my sales person I was called by the regional manager that resulted in another long discussion. The regional manager finally agreed to a refund and said it would take 5-10 business days. After 10 business days I filed a complaint with the BBB and contacted my credit card company. My credit card asked that I wait for 15 days for the refund. It's been 15 days and still no refund. Credit card company has issued a temporary credit while they 'investigate.'

Highest bid we received by far. The original estimate was $4,778 but they applied a discount to bring it to $3,583. They have a decent reputation but overall the bid didn't leave us much confidence and the "coupon" left us feeling like there was some kind of scam.

I'm sure they would have done a beautiful job but the estimate was 9000 dollars. It was an awful lot of money. They were very nice and professional. They called before they came out to make sure the date and time were okay. He measured everything. He brought pictures of some other things they had done. He even commented beforehand that the area was very large.

Long Fence is not focused on the needs of individual homeowners. They may have a good reputation in the commercial space, but if yours is just a small job, they will move you to the bottom of the priority list so fast it will make your head spin. Like other reviewers, I experienced months-long delays in my project, cost surprises, and service coordinators who repeatedly lied to me. Yet when it came time to collect the final payment, they were all over me and expected to be paid within 24 hours. I wrote a letter of complaint after the whole experience, and never got a call back, a letter, or even a post card! Shortly after my disaster of a project was over, my neighbor decided to build a new fence. She called a local contractor who specializes in residential jobs. She got a beautiful wood fence put up in 2 days, and she paid a fraction of what I paid. Trust me, if you are not a large commercial business, don't call Long Fence! You can do so much better.

Long Fence Co. was great. They put up two fences for me. Their work has been professional and on time. I have had no complaints. I had one discrepancy and they came back the next day and corrected it. They have been fine.

A drunk driver crashed into the rear of our property and caused $13K of damage requiring several weeks of repair. Our yard and the rear of our house were unprotected from city street and pedestrian traffic. Long responded within 24 hours of our call with 30 feet of completely appropriate, clean new fencing and a very polite, prompt, and efficient installation team. They worked with the repair team to place the fence in such a way that work could continue unhampered. We received accurate and timely communication from the company at all phases, including installation, billing, and removal. They worked well with our insurance company and credited payments from them to our account appropriately, with no confusion. This company appears to be extremely well organized, customer focused, and efficient. We were afraid that our job would be too small for them, but we were treated as very important customers at every turn.

Their prices were reasonable. The work was done over a year and a half ago and I have not had any problems. The person that came out and did the estimate showed up when he said he would. I was satisfied with the work. I compared their cost to another company and I was satisfied with their estimate.

I am very pleased with the fence. They gave me an estimate and stayed within the estimate. They gave me lost of information and made suggestions about the different fences. They came when they said they would and did the work in one day. They did a great job of cleaning up.

It was terrible. After the salesmen did his job, we had to call the company to find out when they were going to start. They never started on time and when they came they did not have all the materials. To replace a simple fence it took them seven months to finish it and they are still not done to our satisfaction.

I came home one day and it was all completely done. The crew who came to install did a great looking job. They took pride in their work, and did a sturdy job that will probably be standing for 20 years. I am less thrilled with Long Fence the company than I am about the crew who did the actual installation (I heard that LF subs out the installation to local guys). If I could do it again, I'd go straight to the local guys and save some money. They were very responsive about coming back to replace any detail I wasn't happy with. They replaced a couple green boards in a snap. I've since been told it's not good for the tree in the long term, but I was amazed with how tight they got the fencing around every curve of the existing tree. They hauled away all their debris and I'm pretty sure they cleaned up some old fencing that I'd agreed to remove (I didn't get a warning they were coming that day - not that I minded since they took care of all of it while I was at work). It was very expensive - people in the construction business told me they couldn't believe I agreed to it when they heard how small the job was versus the price. However, I had LF pull the permit for me, and they did all the work to get it past the neighborhood historical board. The small, local installation crew probably wouldn't have been able to help me with that. I didn't elect it, but LF does offer a (credit card based) long term payment plan (And I see why they do, I'm still paying off this fence). If you get a wood fence, don't worry when you first see it. Over winter mine seasoned into a beautiful color. Also, 7 feet was the height limit so that's what I asked for. You'd be surprised how high those solid fences look once they're in place, though. I'd recommend asking for 6" or a foot less than you initially think you want.

We wanted a unique deck with a number of levels in it. We had difficult property to work with. There was a seven foot hill within 20 feet of the back of the house. We wanted the deck to extend out onto the hill so we could walk onto the grass. We also wanted decorative railings, the build up for a hot tub, and a decorative sunken area in the middle for a fountain and flower beds. We brought in six different deck builders, most of whom wanted us to design the deck. They were used to putting up simple rectangular decks, not designing something special. Long Fence's designer worked with us to create a beautiful deck that fulfilled our dreams. It has held up very well for 10 years, just needing cleaning and resealing every two years.

This company was two months late in building my fence. I was not satisfied with the fence because it was kind of flimsy and parts of it have fallen off. I feel that the company didn't explain the quality of fence that they were selling me.
