Long Fence

Our original board and baton fence was installed by Long Fence (RT 3 Crofton) in May 2004. The initial work seemed very good. Over four or five years we started to notice the back corners of the fence seemed loose. Late last year we noticed the sides of the fence actually separate from the back section. As we wanted a new piece of fence installed we called Long Fence. Lenny from the Urbana Pike location came out. He looked at our fence and told us the sides and back of the fence had never been connected together at the time of installation. We agreed that when they came out to put the new section of fence up they would make a repair on this. They came out, installed the new 8ft section of fence, replaced old boards with new boards (we paid $9 each for new boards) and connected the corners properly. They did a very good job of going over the entire fence and making sure the boards were re-nailed where needed.

My wife interacted with them. We did not go with them. They came quickly when I called them.

They are punctual, professional and responsive. They come to do the work when they say they will, perform the work, clean up after themselves and leave, they are quick and to the point.

It went really well and they gave me a good price. There were a few things that I needed to get corrected after they left, and they were very responsive and came back quickly. They have also already replaced a couple boards for me at no extra cost.

They came out and did the work. I had no complaints and issues with the fence. It is an okay fence; it is not a wonderful fence. I will use them again in the future.

I found the individual to be very professional. No surprises or sells gimmicks, very straight forward.

The woman that called to schedule was wonderful. She coordinated the project for materials that were needed. I did not need to be supervising the whole time. She got exactly what I was trying to explain to get the gate fixed so she could get this information to the crew that came to do the work.

It went very well. I would give them all A's. They were on time and the estimator was very thorough. She helped me find money saving options. She made recommendations for installing gates, so I could save money there as well. She gave me a coupon that gave me $500 off the project. The installers came on time and were very professional. They took a lot of care to not step on my plants. They did a great job.

Called Long Fence for an estimate on a wooden fence. While they were responsive (coming out to give an estimate within a day or 2 of my inquiry) and the representative who came out to the house was on time and nice, he didn't explain my options in the detail that I would have liked. Decided to go with another company who took more time with us.

The gate that was installed was much shorter (by over 1 foot) than the height of the fence. In short, it does not match the fence, and looks quite odd (unfortunately, I can't post the picture I took). Over a 3 week period of time, we have attempted to get someone from the company to come out to our house to look at the gate. We have requested that it be replaced, as it does not match the fence. The people on the telephone, including the sales associate who sold us the fence were sympathetic, but unhelpful. Finally, someone from Long Fence came out to our house, agreed that the gate did not match the fence, and said it would be corrected. Nothing has occurred since, and we have had no contact from him. We are withholding our final payment of 1/3 of the total price.

OK, but the estmate was way too expensive

The gentleman showed up on time to give the estimate but then came up with every reason why Long Fence couldn't do the job - it was like he wasn't interested in educating us on fence or deck installation. We are moving from out of the area and were disappointed with the attitude of the estimator. He didn't seem to want to earn our business. I also thought it was strange that he hadn't pulled the file on the house and he seemed surprised that long fence had completed a fence on the property even though I had told the office over the phone. I would not use this company or recommend them. He was very patronizing and the bid on the deck came back at double the other bids.

It worked out fine. We were very pleased with them and would use them again.

I called a Long sales rep to get an estimate and to advise him of concerns I have after seeing some of the other fences in my townhouse community. Namely that several fences have gaps under them because the fence boards are all of identical length. I expressly said that because of my cat, I wanted the fence boards to reach all the way to the ground so there would not be a gap. He assured me that the installation crew would address this. He should have told me that all the fences are prebuilt and you cannot customize the lengths of individual boards to compensate for changes in ground height, because that is the reality. The teardown and installation of the new fence went fine. Crew was fast and arrived on time.

Sorry for the delay in this report. I had Long Fence come out even though the reports for this Long Fence office had a poor track record in terms of customer service. The rep came out and arrived on time, was professional enough and provided an adequate design for what I considered a high estimate. In addition, there was no follow-up phone call - thought that was completely unprofessional.

The salesman came out, did some measurements, gave me a price, and said if I signed that day, he would lower the price by a few hundred dollars. I should have told him no, but needed to get a fence up to keep my dog from chasing deer out onto a major road. So I signed. As it turned out, I think I was over charged by about a thousand dollars, even with the so-called discount. When the fence was put in, they installed it way inside the property line on one side of the house. When I called to complain, they sent the salesman back out and told me that due to the additional materials needed, it would cost me another $600 to put the fence/gate where it belonged. Never mind that it was his mistake in the first place. Another thing: the salesman told me the fence posts would be set in concrete, when all they did was pour concrete mix down in the hole. They did not mix up concrete and pour it in, which I thought was a gross misinterpretation. I would never use them again.

Fence design to my specs. Installation in one day. Great workmanship. Fence looks great...many compliments from neighbors and passers-by. Snoopy loves "his" yard!

Long Fence did a great job with both jobs. It took a little bit of time to get them started, and a little bit of time to get them finished, but with the weather this winter, I think they finished in the appropriate amount of time. There was no need for any return visits to fix this or complete that. My sales rep. was very helpful, gave me estimates for each job, and was always quick to call or respond to a call. My only complaint with this experience was that they weren't able to email invoices and estimates, so we relied on faxes and mail. I'll take that as my biggest complaint any day of the week when dealing with vendors.

It worked out very well. They are expensive, but they do excellent work. They are very responsive, and I really appreciate the quality of their work and the quality of their materials. I have no complaints.

They did very good work and I wish they did wooden tool sheds.

They were excellent to work with! They did exactly what they said they were going to, were very professional, and reasonably priced. I couldn't ask for anything better! I plan to use them again in the future.

I didn't like them at all. Their bid was too high and responsiveness was not that great. What comments I read from everyone else, I saw a lot of negative stuff in there so I decided not to entertain a site visit. I backed out of it real quick. They contacted me over the phone after 2 or 3 days.

Wonderful job. I would recommend them again and again.

Larry from Long Fence gave me an estimate for a deck and a fence, and I decided to do both (I reviewed the fence separately). He was prompt, professional and knowledgable. I received three estimates for a deck, and surprisingly, this was the lowest. I decided to go with Long Fence primarily because Larry is very knowledgable about decks and permit requirements in DC. I was disappointed that scheduling for installation of the deck did not occur until October, almost three months after I signed the contract. Long Fence took care of all the permits, and the installation of the deck went very quickly. During installation of the deck, the workers threw some dirt they had dug up for the posts in my garden, which made a mess of my garden. The quality of the finished deck was top notch, and I would recommend Long Fence based on the quality of my deck. I've heard that with Long Fence, the quality of the work depends on the crew that does the job. I had a good crew.
