Although we ultimately did not go with AJ, I was very impressed with his professionalism in providing an estimate. I would recommend him if you are considering this kind of work.

I've used AJ's services before for much larger jobs. He did our kitchen gut and remodel job as well as major ceiling work and painting. This job was significantly smaller and less money than the others. The professional service, responsiveness and attention to detail we've come to know of AJ & his employees was just as excellent as the bigger projects. There was a shared wall between my condo and the neighbor. Both times the wall has been worked on (there's been a repeated leak) there was damage into the adjacent apartment. AJ's team was prompt in reporting it to me and repairing the damage to the neighbor's wall in a timely and conscientious manner. And the neighbor reported the work was done well and professionally. Once again a great experience with a true professional. We have done a fair bit of structural work on our primary home and whenever we can use AJ Construction and Development LLC, we are so pleased with the work! Next project, 2nd floor bathroom!

This is our second time using AJ, and we will definitely go back to him for all our construction needs. We are first-time homeowners who are new to the East Coast, so we are thrilled to have found a trustworthy, punctual, and thorough contractor to help us navigate the adventures of home construction and maintenance. For this project, our rear porch steps were falling apart, so we needed them removed with a new set replacing the old. His team completed this project within two days, and I feel so much safer walking up and down those steps! Knowing that we are expecting our first child in December, AJ's crew added some safety features to the steps that weren't there before. We also needed to construct a walkway through two separate bedrooms. AJ and his crew tore down the back of a closet and constructed a walkway; they matched everything to the existing style of the room, so it looks like the doorway has been there forever! I appreciated the efforts he and his crew went to to make sure that the doorway was not only functional but also pleasant looking. What we really like about AJ is his approach to customer service and his communication. He was prompt to come to our home and give us an estimate (which he stuck to!) and prompt to start the project. He was here every morning, introduced us to the crew and explained what the day's goals were. He completed a walk through before signing off on the project to make sure everything was according to our standards. I also want to say, as a woman, I appreciate that AJ always included me in the conversations about the renovations. I imagine other women know what I'm talking about: more often, contractors will come over and only communicate with my husband, acting as if I am invisible. But AJ understood that I was also a homeowner and was invested in the renovations, so I was included in every discussion. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that! I'm sure we'll call AJ again. We've only had small projects, but he's treated them with the energy and focus as if they were large-scale projects. He's incredibly personable, and his team is focused, hard-working, and considerate.

AJ (the owner) and his crew were clinch hitters after we dealt with an unexpected and stressful water damage situation in our living room, stairs, and W/D closet. AJ came highly recommended from a colleague of my wife who used AJ to do some remodeling in their condo. The water mitigation team had to rip out approx 1/5 of our ceiling in our living room, half-bath and over our stairs, in addition to sections of our living room walls and stairway also damaged by water. After the water mitigation team finished their work, I left a message with AJ late in the afternoon and he called back first thing the next morning to schedule a walk through and estimate. AJ was on-time for that first appointment and walked me through all the repairs he assessed were needed. AJ was a clear communicator, answered all my questions, and provided a notional timeline for the repairs. He told me the variables that may come into play regarding other projects and the timeline for our repairs, which I appreciated since I was going to need to take a number of days off of work. Late the next day, AJ sent us the estimate, which was clear, concise and consistent with what we discussed during the walk through. A few days later, AJ emailed me a draft version of the contract to make sure I was OK with everything. The contract, again, was consistent with our previous conversations, and was flexible to allow for 2 or 3 payments. He also provides a one-year warranty for labor and materials (excluding those provided by home owner). AJ emailed the night before our first day of repairs to confirm the time/date, and he and his crew arrived right on schedule the next day (and each day work was performed). That morning he walked me through what they planned to do over the next few days and they quickly got to work bringing in supplies, etc. His team was very thorough with the prep work, laying down particle board over our hardwood floors to ensure there would be no damage from the ladders and other equipment. They also were thorough when covering our furniture, plants, etc with plastic to ensure they remained clean throughout the process. The repair work took about four days, and his team arrived on-time every day. AJ would pop or call each day to check in and make sure we were happy with the work thus far. His team worked diligently and were helpful and polite in every interaction. Since we were able to use a small portion of our living room during this time, the workers asked at the end of each day whether we wanted them to pick up the protective plastic so we could use the living room. The last day and a half was spent priming and painting the entirety of our ceiling and all of our walls. Even though some of our walls were undamaged from the water, AJ and his team painted them to ensure there was no color distinction between the walls they repaired and the undamaged ones. On the last day, AJ's team cleaned every square inch of our living room and stairway, and replaced the furniture back to its original location. AJ was there at the end to check the work and ensure we were pleased with the outcome, which we very much were. Overall, AJ provided both excellent customer service, quality work, and was on-time every day. He even sent a "thank you" letter a few weeks after. We'd recommend AJ to anyone, and we will certainly use him next time we need any work done.

Still in the meeting stages, but I'm absolutely impressed with his responsiveness and professionalism.

We had worked with AJ and his team before, so we knew what to expect in terms of responsiveness and job quality, and once again they came through with flying colors. AJ met with us a couple of times pre-work to scope the job and discuss best approaches, and kept in constant touch during the job to keep us informed of progress. We had some other work being done on the house at the same time, and AJ was very accommodating in terms of scheduling his work around the other. He even obligingly repaired a section of wall damaged by the other contractor. His team was once again punctual and professional, turning four ho-hum rooms that showed 100 years of wear and tear into a stunning showcase for our wedding a few weeks after he finished. We very much enjoyed working with AJ and look forward to working with him again when we remodel our two upstairs bathrooms.

AJ and his crew did an outstanding job! AJ is truly a pleasure to work with. He is friendly, professional, and super responsive. The crew that works for him has been with him for many years. In fact, we had worked with AJ to do a major basement renovation 7 years ago and it was nice to see many of the same people again. He was flexible with the days his crew came in in order to work around times that we needed to use the space, and the clean-up each day was very thorough. The actual work was extremely well-done and looks wonderful. There were many elements of the job that he problem-solved well,nfrom small issues like color matching an existing paint color to larger issues like the fact that our doors are very old and needed some work on both the doors and the frames to sit well and not re-chip the new paint. We also needed to use a lead-nutralizing wash after the work was done and he located this product and very thoroughly wiped down all the surfaces in the house. Our experience with AJ for this work, as well as with our major renovation, has been wonderful. We have recommended him to many people since working with him 7 years ago and he's done excellent work for friends and neighbors as well.

AJ of AJ Construction & Development was amazing to work with! We met him through our kitchen designer and were immediately impressed by his thoughtful approach to our project. He spent time at the house during the planning stages providing recommendations and getting to know our style & approach to the project. AJ was in contact with us at every step of the project, easily available by phone/email. His team arrived promptly each day, were hard-working and had excellent craftsmanship. The overall quality of the work, from the construction, to the mason work on a back brick wall, to the installation of LED lighting were all exceptional. Little touches also struck as a mark of high quality workmanship- we had a cabinet that extended out from the external wall of the kitchen. (It had been a cold storage cupboard in the early days of the home.) We'd elected to insulate this cupboard and use it as an appliance garage. The exterior portion of it was enclosed in a brown, rusty metal that was unsightly as well as poorly insulated. AJ enclosed it a much more attractive manner- using siding to make it pretty as well as functional. The work was done in a timely manner- there were delays only because we had to wait for certain pieces from our cabinet maker and we decided to clean a newly exposed brick wall which added time to the project. This also bumped the price a bit from our original estimate, but rightfully so. We have several more projects to complete in this same home as well as a condo around the corner. We look forward to working with AJ and his team again! The only drawback to AJ is he doesn't work in VA. Sorry folks!

AJ is fantastic to work with. He and his crew are very courteous, responsive, and professional. They took pride in their work and did not cut any corners. They started the job when we agreed, took care to cover the addition when necessary (four days of hard rain during the middle of construction), and generally cared about leaving the job site neat everyday. AJ is an excellent communicator and always wanted to confirm what he saw on the plans. Whenever the plans were unclear and did not provide the necessary detail we worked through a good solution. His price was fair and he worked very hard to be clear about his scope of work before the contract was signed. The fact the project went as smoothly as it did is a direct result of AJ's desire for clarity before the project began.

First of all, AJ and his team do exceptional work. They are talented professionals who know how to get things done in expert fashion. They performed a miracle with my bathroom, beginning the project on a Monday morning and completing it within five days. When they started, the bathroom was half-demolished from a failed remodeling project started by another contractor. I was beside myself, trying to figure out how I could possibly get the bathroom back in shape in time for my daughter's return just a week later. A.J. and his team got right to work, creating a schedule to get the work done, and maneuvering their way around other contractors who were working in the house at the same time. Bottom line: They got the job done, expertly, efficiently and beautifully. Secondly, AJ is a really nice guy. He's easy to talk to, low pressure, calm, responsive and reliable. He and his team were there when they said they would be and followed through completely with everything they promised. If I could give an A+++, I would do so. AJ is a top-notch contractor.

Started on time and completed in timely manner. Removed all work materials and waste; Neighbors complicated job; secured ladders when left overnight; very happy with performance Attic window installation involved lifting wall & brick but company cleaned up all debris, left home spotless.

First Impression: I was very satisfied at the high level of professionalism from the very start. When I called the company, I was greeted with excellent customer service and the line of communication from then on was on target. He set up from the very beginning, clear expectations and called back when he said he would. Pricing/Bidding: As a consumer, but also someone with years of property (Real Estate) management experience, it is always in the best interest to solicit more than one quote or bid for a service or project. We called several companies listed on Angie's List and of the 3 quotes, AJ Construction came in priced very competitively and won us over with the constant follow up and follow through on communication. He gave an original quote, to include the services we needed. There was not a charge for this. Other companies were charging $75.00 just to come out and take a look. Within 24 hours we received our quote via email and from there, compared it to the others and decided to sign the contract. As expected on 50% down to sign and balance due upon completion of work. So, in addition to all of the other positive feedback we've received thus far, the terms were manageable. Workmanship/Quality of Construction: Both the owner and one of the trades showed up on site to the home to commence work. They were very prompt, as a matter of fact, arrived early the morning of day 1. They were polite, professional and introduced themselves and again, went over exactly what to expect and how they would work, and when to expect them to finish. In just a matter of hours the project was complete and the work space they left behind was in excellent condition. No debris, no lunch bags or soda cans or cigarette butts (that is often left behind of trades and subcontractors). Again, I was very pleased to see this. In addition, they did a great job at identifying and matching the previous, pre-existing paint colors to that of the new color. Follow Up/Follow Through: I was notified that the project was complete by the owner, and he stressed that if there is anything that needs attention or if there is something they missed, to please call him and let him know and he will fix it. Needless to say, I did not have to make that call. To my surprise, he called the next day to ensure that I was satisfied with the quality of work and to address any of my concerns. I had none. I thanked him for a job well done and told him I would be referring friends/family etc. because I was extremely pleased with my level of service. Yes, I will definitely use this company again!

From start to finish, I was extremely impressed with AJ's professionalism and attention to detail. AJ was very detailed and specific about the work to be done while offering ideas/suggestions. Once selected, AJ was very flexible regarding the start date as my work schedule often fluctuates without notice and even was able to obtain needed materials when the normal supplier did not have it in stock. AJ even stepped in to do some of the work, when one of the crew members had an emergency, to keep my project on schedule. AJ and his crew were punctual, worked extremely hard with few if any breaks and cleaned the jobsite upon completion. I would highly recommend AJ and will utilize his services again for future home improvement needs.

We thank AJ very much for addressing our concerns and the door's water leak issue. My wife get extremely worried about home maintenance challenges. AJ and his team's attention to detail, quality and pride of there workmanship was pleasure to experience. Now we know who to put on our speed dial for contracting jobs - thanks again AJ for your professionalism.

They did a great job. Showed up on time. Kept things clean. Communicated well. The price was very reasonable. They were willing to work with us on our time frame. I have always been very impressed by the professionalism of this contractor. AJ makes sure that the men working for him act as professionally as he does. He always accurately estimated the amount of time each project would take, which was very important with my tight schedule. The contractor was willing to work with me on my budget, even allowing me to finish the painting part of the project so I could stay within my budget. He did not accept payment until he walked through everything with me at the end and made sure I was satisfied with the results. He always had a smile on his face when addressing any of my concerns (which I always have as I am a perfectionist). He took great pride in his work, and his number one goal was making sure that I was happy with the results. I have never been more impressed with any contractor than I am with AJ construction. I wouldn't hire anyone else.

AJ is very polite and respectful. He didn't talk down to me (me being a young woman this is a common problem I run into). He answered all of my questions. Provided an accurate price quote which even decreased slightly when the job was finished. Was upfront about what to expect. Provided an accurate estimate of how long this job would take. They were willing to work around us as needed especially since the project took 3.5 weeks. The end results look fabulous. When they finished the large kitchen project, AJ made sure everything was to my satisfaction. There were a few minor repairs and adjustments needed and AJ took care of them with a smile...even the ones I brought up after he was paid. I feel he did an awesome job and would highly recommend him to anyone. Well worth paying a little more for the high quality.

Everything went according to schedule. I purchase the materials the day beofre and left them at will call. The items were picked up the following morning and installation was completed before the evening. There was a small problem with the security door. I called and an immediate response came from the owner, who personally came out to remedy the problem; which was with the door itself, not the work performed.

Honest, upfront about details. Courteous. Reasonably priced. Met their deadlines. Addressed all complaints politely and corrected them. End result looks great.

AJ responded to my call very quickly. He examined the property and got a quote back to me in less than 24 hours and did the work as promised for the amount he quoted me. Once I had gotten the quote, I understood what the work entailed and I was completely satisfied with his price. I had spoken with another company and AJ's price was comparable. When weather conditions caused a delay, he notified my in advanced and we selected another day. When the work was completed, AJ sent me pictures of the completed work and gave me a complete description of what he had done. I found the service to be reliable, reasonably priced and it was a pleasure to work with AJ (good attitude and no excuses). I have other properties and AJ Construction will be my first choice when needing work done.

A.J. first came to my house as an outside contractor for Sears, to intstall my exterior security and storm doors, during the fall of 2010. I was thoroughly impressed with the excellence of his work. The job was completed in a timely and efficent manner, with careful attention to the neatness of the work area. No job debris was left behind. Because of the excellent, efficient way in which this job was completed, I requested his business card, so that I could secure his services in the furture for other home improvement jobs. Later, during the fall of 2010 A.J. installed an interior mirror closet door for me. Again, I was very pleased with the job and have had no problems with the door operation. During the spring of 2011, I contracted A.J. to paint the chain link fence surrounding my yard. Again, I was very pleased with the job. His prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of work done. I highly recommend AJ Construction and Development, LLC. to anyone needing the services of a home contractor.

"I could not have had a better contractor to work with". My story begins with me wanting to retire and to get my home in good condition before I do. So, I went to a home improvement show in Upper Marlboro, Maryland to find a licensed contractor. While there I selected (or so I thought) a complete licensed contracting team to do the work, who was to get me an approved plan, electrical, plumbing, fire and other permits to get the work done. It took me two years to get the permits dealing with that company and when the permits were finally approved so that the work could begin; my lender drops the bomb on me that we were not approving the company to do the work. "I was devastated". What was I to do now??? Then out of no where, I received a post card in the mail from AJ who got me name off the monthly pre-approved permit listings in DC Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) asking if there is any work that maybe his company could do to please give his company (AJ Construction) a call. I emailed him with my name and phone number and he did indeed call me and we set up a meeting at my house and on another occasion at his office to discuss what I was looking to have done. My loan was already pre-approved for renovations and the budget was set by the previous contractor so I could not change it. Mr. AJ looked at what I wanted to get done and then we both sat down to discuss the budget. He was a great communicator as to what do for my budget. He wrote up a contract that I accepted and from there he was off to work. The job took a little longer than we expected because DCRA was always coming out adding additional things to do that was not in my budget, because of on going new regulations when gutting a house, but not to worry. I found additional funds and he got the job done to my complete satisfaction. It is like I am living in a brand new house at half the cost of a new one. Thanks to Mr. AJ. I am a happy woman now with the house all done and will be happier when I retire later this year. So if anyone is looking for a great no-nonsense (on the ball) licensed commercial & residential contractor, AJ Construction & Development, LLC is your go to company. Jean Pledger
