When the plumber arrived he quickly determined that the clog was not located in the sink that my washer drained into, but it was between my house and the street. The scope of the work needed was larger than the equipment he had available on his truck. He called the office and arranged for another plumber who had the necessary equipment to come and complete the job later that same day. Not only did he charge me a reasonable amount for the clearing the drain he did not charge me for the time he spent locating the clog. I found the service and office personnel, not only friendly but efficient.
Description of Work: The sink my washing machine's drained into was clogged.

He did a very nice job, but since he does not do dry wall repair, I had to do that myself. So I learned how to attach a section to the ceiling... interesting bit of work.
Description of Work: Very courteous, quick, did a nice job and cleaned up. If any more plumbing work, I'll call his shop.

The plumber, Jim, was very friendly and very helpful. He solved the problem in a reasonable amount of time and left the room spotless when he left. He arrived within the time specified and completed the job in the time he had estimated when he began. We could not have asked for better service.

I tried multiply times the last few months to call and get a call back. I'm assuming that with the holiday and the good reviews that they are very very very busy. The lady who answers phones is very pleasant and very apologetic that I haven't received a call back but other than that no response. Very frustrating b/c they are one of the few plumbers who does what I need them to do and use the equipment I want. Please understand that this is a review of only non responsiveness. I do not know what actual service is like. I really wanted to work with these people and I'm pretty patience that's why I kept trying, but there is so long you will try.
Description of Work: Had a call out for estimate where suggestions were made and where a promise of an estimate were to follow. There was no follow up call, even after many requests.

W H Winegar & Son Plumbing and Heating came to my house to give me a quote to replace my hot water heater. I agreed to the price and had the heater replaced. But they had to come back several times to take care of newly identified issues. The last time someone from the company was at my house, he told me that I needed some additional duct work. I told him I was planning on replacing my entire heating system within a few months, and would the duct work suffice for the new heating system. He said yes, so based on that information, I agreed to pay another $200 to replace the ducts. Three months later when I replaced my furnace, I learned that the new ducts were not the right grade for the new furnace so I had to have it all taken out and replaced with the correct ducts. I contacted Mr. Winegar to request a refund of the $200 for the duct work. He told me that he would let his employee know that he shouldn't have told me that the duct work would work for a new furnace and got angry at me when I asked for a refund of $200.

Response from W H Winegar & Son Plumbing and Heating
We apologize to the customer. It seems that she has misinterpreted our frustration for anger in trying to explain what we did and why we did it. On January 2, 2012, the customer called us for a price on a water heater replacement. We gave her a price, sight unseen, for a normal installation of the water heater. We explained to her that once we visit the jobsite there may be changes needed to bring the water heater installation up to code since the water heater requires a plumbing permit from WSSC. Upon arrival to install the new water heater, we discovered that the water heater flue pipe was indeed 3” and needed to be increased to 4” to pass inspection. We installed the water heater and told her we would have to return with the material to increase the flue pipe. We came back with the new flue pipe and while replacing it , we ran into some problems with the existing furnace flue pipe as they are tied in conjunction with one another. We had to replace a portion of the furnace flue along with the water heater flue to get our job to pass inspection regardless of whether it would work with the new furnace or not. Thus we concluded our job by having our water heater and flue pipes permitted and inspected by WSSC. This is our standard operating procedure. Since she doesn’t mention WSSC, a permit, or inspection and she refers to the flue pipe as “duct work” we feel she is confused as to what we actually did. We feel the customer’s request for a 200.00 reimbursement is unfair. IN good faith we our offering her 100.00 reimbursement and we would like the opportunity to revisit her home to show her what we did and why we did it as she seems to be under the impression that she was duped into doing unnecessary work which simply isn’t the case. At Winegar Plumbing, we strive to educate our employees to clarify to our customers what we are doing and why we are doing it. Bringing jobsites up to existing code requirements is a very important part of our business and most of our customers are not aware of these changes. We apologize to the customer for any misunderstandings.

I spoke with Mr. Winegar over the weekend (he was the only company to answer the phone on a Saturday). I explained to him I would need services performed by the following Tuesday because the drywall men were scheduled and these pipes needed to be moved prior to their arrival. He promised to call Monday morning to schedule and he did call me as promised. The date was set for Tuesday (the following day). Mr. Winegar called when he was on the way. Upon arrival he gave me a quote and went right to work. Everything went as planned. One pipe had to be re-routed through a joist and another moved. He cleaned up after himself before he left. I would definitely reccomend Winegar Plumbing!

On the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving we discovered that we had a blocked waste line branch that served our kitchen and laundry room (as we were cleaning up after a dinner for 15 people, of course!). Obviously without a working drain we now had a suddenly unusable kitchen the night preceding Thanksgiving! Thus started a panicked search on Angie's List for a highly rated plumber that could and would come to our home ASAP to allow us to salvage the holiday. I called at least 5 or 6 highly rated plumbers and only Winegar's was able to assure me that they could have a technician out to our home the next morning. Sure enough they called the next morning and confirmed that they had their tech scheduled to be at my home by 9:00am (on Thanksgiving day!). Jimwas the tech that showed up and he was a very pleasant fellow and, most importantly, quite competent and knowledgeable in his trade! It turned out to be a complicated service task (the drain snake wouldn't get thru past a complicated plumbing intersection, so a wall had to be opened up and a drain pipe cut open to allow the snake to proceed all the way thru the drain line branch into the main plumbing stack. In any case, three hours later we had our problem solved and Thanksgiving dinner prep could again process. We had to delay the big meal for 18 people to the next day (Friday), but Winegar saved the holiday for us! Of course, there was a price to pay and on a holiday we we charged holiday rates (!!) which ended up costing us $637 for the service, but cancelling Thanksgiving dinner or trying to relocate on very late notice would have been awful! Why Murphy's Law had to present itself on the evening before such a big event cannot really be challenged, though, I suppose since that is why Murphy's Law is Murphy's Law!!

Overall I was very satisfied with the service I received and would use and recommend Winegar,
Description of Work: I had a leak on my property and my property and my neighbors was flooding the sunk pump was working overtime. When he was hour late from my appointment time I did gave him a call. Some jobs take longer than expected .I was more concern about not being forgotten. We were not sure where the leak was. Thankfully the leak was from a pipe under in the crawl space. The whole was the size of a pencil eraser. The Plumber was able to patch it and we made an appointment for him to come back and replace the pipe for Oct 19. I was not charged for the patch job. On Oct 19 we had bad weather so he did call so that we could change the time. This was a good thing. He replaced the pipe and also checked on an issue I had with my tub stopper at no charge. Overall I was very satisfied with the service I received.

When I first contacted the company, I was pleasantly surprised at the offer to come out immediately. I delayed the appointment for a week, and was told I'd receive a call from the plumber to alert me when he was on his way to my home that day. On the day of the appointment, the plumber called promptly at the designated time and arrived quickly. It didn't take long to determine the source of the leak and have the work completed- including new caulking around the tub and escutcheons. The tub/shower faucet was repaired and they were on their way within 45 minutes after their arrival. They cleaned up the debris and left my home as they found it. Both gentlemen were informative, kind and professional.

Overall this was a very pleasant experience. W.H. Winegar responded promptly to my phone call and had a plumber to my house within perhaps an hour of my phone call. I had already cleaned everything out from under the sink (the soggy loo rolls were fun) to prepare the area. When the plumber arrived he was not only prompt, but courteous and cheerful. After fixing the problem with the sink, which was related to a leak one of the water pipe handles, I asked him, "Since you're here could you have a look at the toilet? The toilet, I had noticed, had been self-flushing for several days (emptying and refilling on it's own). He checked and told me the flapper ball and another part needed replacing. He went to his truck and came back with new parts and replaced all the innards of the tank. All the work from start to finish took probably less than 30 minutes. As I had no idea of the problem(s), I had expected it could cost a lot more than what I was charged. I know I could have replaced the innards of the toilet myself (I've done it in the past). I was not aware that this was the cause of the continual flushing (I had verified that the flap did cover the hole and couldn't understand why there was a problem). However, he told me, in advance, what needed to be done and I decided to just let him go ahead and do it. I might have had a less expensive bill had I done this myself, but I had a plumber on site so I decided to skip the 'Home Depot' route and treat myself to a quick solution to both issues. I would highly recommend this company and was extremely pleased to know that such an honest and reasonable company was right in my own neighbourhood. My only suggestion to others might be to check in advance the hourly rate and cost for supplies of your provider. I believe their hourly charge was $65 or $75 dollars, but since I couldn't locate the bill and the service was performed several months ago, I am not totally clear about this.
Description of Work: I cannot recall the name of the service person sent by W.H. Wnegar, but I called the company because it was on Angie's list and I thought my regular plumber was no longer doing residential jobs. The plumber came and and examined the pipes under the sink. (the cabinet under the sink was very wet with all the things stored in there totally damp). Additionally, I told him that the toilet seemed to be 'self-flushing'...emptying and refilling...even when not in use.

We've had the leak behind the toilet for about a month now, and just got around to calling a plumber today. I called Winegar & Sons around midday. They offered to see if there was someone available to come out this afternoon, and call me right back. I got a callback within 5 minutes, and they said someone could come in the afternoon. We had someone out by 4pm, and he had identified the problem and replaced the part quickly. I was signing the receipt by 4:30. I had a screaming 4-month-old baby when he came in, and the baby fell asleep while he was working. He was conscientious and quiet so as to not wake him up (a feat which I'm still learning how to do). As far as the quality of the part and the work, I will see as time goes on, but from just looking at the line and testing it, it seems great. Very professional service, quick, and reasonably priced.

As I said above, I had water in my basement, and thought it was coming from above the ceiling. He checked everything, promptly fixed the pipes which were leaking, and suggested that I put a water alert (I did not know those existed) in the basement since the pipes are very old, and am not spending much time down there. He then fixed a leaking faucet, and was on his way. Very nice, efficient, prompt. I will call them again

The bathtub drain on the 2nd floor of our rental property in Silver Spring was leaking, resulting in a wet ceiling on the level below it. I called the office and coordinated the service call for the next day. At the time, we weren't sure where the leak was coming from, so Terry checked several things first, rather than just cutting a hole in the ceiling right away. He called me a few times throughout the visit, explaining things and asking for permission to continue. In the end, he had to cut into the ceiling to access and repair the leak anyway, but I appreciate his trying to avoid doing so until it was unavoidable. It is very difficult managing a rental property long distance (we live in FL), but they managed to make it a bit less stressful. We will definitely use them for future repairs and/or improvements.

I noticed my sump pump was running but not pumping over the weekend, was concerned that it was in danger of overflowing, and was looking for someone to come check it on a Sunday, when most plumbers are "closed". W H Winegar & Son had an emergency number that I was able to call, and my call was returned in about 15 minutes. I discussed my issue with them over the phone, and they helped me check it myself to determine that it was not an emergency (the sump pit was not full or filling up, and no rain was forecast), so we scheduled for the next day to avoid an additional overtime charge. Jim came out right on time the next day, and was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful -- he knew immediately what to check, what the problem was, and was able to quickly repair the issue. While he was at it, he made sure I would be able to remove the sump pit cover myself the next time I needed to. He installed a much quieter and higher quality pump than I had before. They guarantee the new pump for one year. I was extremely pleased with the experience. Jim knew what he was doing, was very friendly and professional, and didn't stop working even while we were chatting. I feel the rate charged is reasonable for the work done, parts supplied, and time spent. Highly recommended.

The tech showed up on time with all the supplies he needed. He measured out the new location of the stove and went to basement and measured out the pipe to be shorted. He took about thirty minutes to disconnect the old pipe, tread a new one and reinstall it. He then reconnected our stove and then relite all the pilots in the house. very professional job and he even pointed out that the old gas line was not up to code and he corrected the problem.
Description of Work: We are remoceling our kitchen and had to relocate the gas stove. W.H. Winegar came and moved the gas connection approx.2 feet and reconnected the stove in the end. They also brought the gas line up to code. They were able to complete the job in less than one hour.
