The Plumber arrived and got right to work. He identified the leak from our overflow tank above our hot water heater, which then needed to be replaced. The plumber seemed like he was in too much of a hurry to answer my questions, but he still charged for an hour of labor (it took him about 45 min), so I don't understand why he didn't take the time to talk with me rather than just quickly answer my questions then rush off. I hate when professionals I hire treat me like my questions are a waste of their time. However, he did finally answer most of my questions. The only question he didn't answer, was when I tried to inquire how much it would cost. He sidestepped my question and did not tell me if he was charging per hour or per project or what their rates are. I had no idea until he handed me the bill. I think he charged per hour, and their hourly rate is $136. Other than needing some improvement in professionalism, it went well and no more leaks.

Both upstairs bathrooms failed to flush water down on Sunday morning so I assumed the blockage was somewhere in the pipes. I called Winegar, and they promptly came on Tuesday after the Monday holiday. Would you believe, when he flushed the toilets, everything worked great! I guess two days of running sink water and showers somehow flushed the main pipe, and the blockage was gone. The service tech gave me tons of great advice, so it certainly wasn't a waste to have him come.

The job took 30 minutes and went without a hitch.
Description of Work: Outside faucet (hose bibb) would not shut off completely. Hose bibb needed to be replaced. Old bibb had been soldered/sweated onto end of copper pipe (when house was built 41 years ago), rather than being screwed onto a male adapter. Plumber removed old bibb by heating it with a torch until it could be pulled off. He then soldered/sweated a male adapter onto the copper pipe, and screwed a new bibb onto the adapter. He explained that, in the future, I can easily replace the bibb myself because the bibb is screwed on, not soldered/sweated on.

Today i noticed that there was a small leak on the pressure reducing valve running to the main water line. I called W.H. Winegar & Son about 3 p.m. (and the normally close at 4:30 pm). I received a callback in 5 minutes that a plumber would be on the way in about an hour. He (Terry) arrived before 4pm was very professional. He came in and changed my pressure valve and left no mess. I felt the price was fair and I will use their company again for future plumbing work.

It came to our attention over the course of a weekend that we had a fairly decent leak in the cabinet under the sink in our kitchen, so on Monday I contacted Winegar & Sons Plumbing to have a plumber come out to the house and give us a diagnoses and/or repair the issue. Our house is 60 years old and it has been our experience that many of the previous owners projects may have been "fix it cheap" not "Fix it right" projects, so we were prepared for the worst when the plumber arrived. I had taken it upon myself to secure a replacement faucet (same as the one already installed) just in case the issue was with the current faucet and the faucet was deemed to be unrepairable. The Winegar & Sons dispatch/scheduler could get a plumber out to the house on the following Wednesday at noon, so we set the date. The plumber, Jim(?) contacted me 1 hour before he was scheduled to arrive to verify that we were still on, I agreed and he showed up on time. He walked in with all his tools ready to go. Within minutes he concluded that the plumbing appeared ok, but the high dollar faucet we currently had installed had an internal issue and was only leaking when the faucet was turned on. I gave him the replacement faucet and he began swapping out the two. He was careful to point out that the new faucet was a "lifetime" warranty through the manufacturer and to send in the warranty card as well as the new "O" ring and tool for removing the cartridge. It took him about 30 minutes to complete the work on the sink. The new faucet works great, and no more leaks. Jim was quick, personable and knowledgeable (as well as a dog lover!). After the faucet was swapped, I asked him if he could take a look at a pair of potential issues in our basement, he agreed and after 2 or 3 minutes, he had several options as to what he could do to fix them. I will contact W H Winegar & Son Plumbing and Heating to fix those problems as well.
Description of Work: We contacted the company for diagnoses of a recently leaky kitchen faucet. Since I suspected that it was the faucet and not the plumbing, I bought a replacement faucet just in case the current leaky faucet was not repairable. The plumber then swapped out the old faucet for the new faucet.

After ending up over my head with a valve replacement due to some issues in how the home was built, I called another plumbing company who pulled out their "book" and quoted me $450 for what was a fairly straightforward repair. After sending them on their way, I called Winegar. (It is worth noting that this was around 3:00pm on a Friday.) Mr. Winegar answered the phone, answered my questions and had Jim out here within an hour. He pulled up in a big, well-marked truck (not just a van) that was presumably equipped to do any number of tasks that might have been required. Jim was incredibly pleasant as well as informative and straightforward about what was required. Though it is not a huge thing, I really appreciated the fact that 1. he listened to what had transpired to that point in order to gain a full understanding of the issue (something I feel like the earlier plumber did not have) and 2. he did not dismiss me or talk down to me because I was a woman. What is a huge thing is that in spite of the fact that at 4:00pm on a Friday afternoon I would have paid just about anything to have the issue fixed so I could have water for the weekend, they didn't take advantage of that. Rather, they charge based on an hourly formula which turned out to be very reasonable. On top of all of this, Jim also took the time to educate me about some questions I had about a pending toilet replacement...and assured me that I could call them should I end up having an issue. My experience with Jim and WH Winegar plumbing was excellent and I am grateful to have a "go to" plumber that I can trust now. I will definitely call the company again.

Discovering two more pinhole leaks, in early March, I called Winegar plumbing for an estimate. Mr. Winegar arrived the next day and agreed with me concerning having my house repiped due to the number of pinhole leaks I have had. He went through the house from lower level to upper level following the pipes. He found an additional pinhole leak that I had not noticed. Following this inspection, he discussed how this would happen and about how long it would take. After getting the estimate the next day and working out some minor changes (i wanted to upgrade the copper pipes) I agreed with the estimate and a date was agreed to. Mr. Winegar arrived with the two plumbers who performed the work. He went over the entire job and his recommendations how to proceed. From that point on, they began removing the pipes from the lower level first, and replaced the pipes as they went. A small hitch prevented me from having one working bathroom for the first night; but other than that the job went smoothly. The second day they arrived corrected the problem noted above and continued working their way to the top level and finishing by the end of the day. It went just as described during the initial inspection. The two plumbers were very courteous and I felt comfortable with them in my house even while stepping out from time to time.
Description of Work: A complete re-piping of my house was performed due to many pinhole leaks over the last ten years. Winegar performed the complete repipe in two full days. The only items not replaced were the plumbing fixtures, that is, the faucets and valves.

The tenant in my rental house called to report a significant amount of water in the basement. She could not discern the source. Since this was a Saturday, I couldn't reach the plumbers I normally use. I called Winegar because they recevied a good review. They had an "emergency" number, and this seemed like an emergency to me. The phone was answered right away, and I was put in touch with their plumber who was working that day. He responded right away, and went straight to the rental. There, he found that the source of the water was the outside line from the well. This was not something he could fix on the weekend since it required digging up the yard, but he did turn off the water so the leak stopped, and fixed up my tenant with an emergency source of water (due to the good offices of the neighbor who allowed him to use their hose). I didn't get an estimate before he began looking at the problem, since I needed this fixed quickly and didn't have time to shop around. Naturally, I was very pleased with Winegar's service.Their charge ($255) seemed a little high, but considering that this was weekend emergency service, it was quite acceptable. On Monday, I got an estimate from Winegar's and my regular plumbers to fix the outside leak. Winegar's estimate was about twice that of my regular plumbers, so naturally I went with them. I can't say how well Winegar's would have addressed the problem, but their performance over the weekend was excellent, so I certainly would have gone ahead with them, had the estimates not been so different.
Description of Work: They responded to a weekend emergency - a pretty significant leak in the basement with an unknown source. They put in a temporary fix, since the complete solution required digging in the yard which is not a weekend job. The temporary fix worked fine until the leak could be fixed permanently.

From start to finish, these guys were great. My condo requires a certificate of insurance and the Winegar staff were very patient and helpful with that process. When the two-person team arrived, they were on time and ready to start. They did a great job, double checked their work and provided some advice on how to save a few dollars here and there. They were professional, super clean, and helped to cheer me up when other things were going wrong. I would definitely recommend them!

He was punctual and professional and courteous. At the end of the job, he thoroughly explained what he completed which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, he did not have a part to one of the newer toilets so he had to order it. That will have to be a separate visit with a separate cost. I felt like he was very honest and up-front and I would certainly use their service again.
Description of Work: Very satisfied with the service. Jim the plumber fixed 2 of our toilet leaks (by replacing the parts), fixed the leak in the disposal, and the leak in the basement that connects to our water hose outside. All that cost about $350.

My hot water heater died. I went on Angie's list to find a reputable yet reasonably priced plumbing service. After reading the positive reviews about W. H Winegar and Son Plumbing & Heating, Inc., I contacted the company. The receptionist was very friendly. When I asked about getting a tankless water heater, she could not answer the answer, but she promised to give my name and number to Mr. Winegar. Within 10 minutes, Mr. Winegar returned my called and clearly explained the difference between a tank and tankless water heater. Based on his knowledge, I chose the tank water heat. He also agreed that his company would look at my toilet tank valve and gave me an cost estimate for the work. We coordinated an appointment for his guys to come replace the water heater and examine the valve. On the day of the job, his guys did not arrive between the agreed upon hours because their previous job took longer than anticipated. I appreciated both the receptionist and Mr. Winegar himself giving me calls to update me on the status of the guys arrival. The guys, Jonnie and Bernard, arrived at my home and went straight to work. I appreciate them covering my floor with cardboard as to not damage it. They diligently worked on replacing my water heater and my toilet fill valve and flapper. I also asked them to examine a strange yet disturbing noise in my shower and they agreed to do it. They did not stop examining the problem until they found it and they replaced my shower head. Jonnie accepted my Angie's List coupon for $25 off the service and wrote me a legible bill. I promptly gave him the payment. Now, I have hot water, a fixed toilet and new shower head. I'm extremely satisfied and plan to use them as my regular plumbing service because they are experts, fairly priced and customer-oriented. E Wheeler

The plumber snaked out about 60 feet and found the source of the clog. This was the first visit on 11/14/12. He was professional and didn't waste any time. On Sunday, 12/23/12, we had another (slight) sewer back-up and immediately called Winegar again. He responded immediately and came out shortly thereafter. He was unable to find a problem and the water receded on its own. He told us that if it happened again, we needed to call WSSC. At this point, January 31, 2013, we haven't had any further issues. We were impressed at how quickly this company responded to our second call on a Sunday. Even though we don't feel that our problem has been completely resolved (we have had more than average problems with sewer back-ups in the past), we felt that the Winegar plumbers did all they could do.

Discovered that a toilet was leaking from the tank or from the supply tube and called W H Winegar & Son on Monday morning. The woman who answered the phone was very professional. She explained that after the freeze/thaw they were buisy and asked if we needed to have a plumber come right away or could we wait. It wasn't an emergency so I set up an appoitment for Wednesday morning between 8:00 and 8:30. The plumber called at 7:50 to let me know he was on the way. He got here, went to work, told me what he needed to do, answered my questions and was done quickly. He was done within a half an hour and I think it was a good price. I would definitly use them in the future.

I had Winegar in my home just the day before this incident (see previous review) for plumbing issues. Little did I know I'd be calling them back on an emergency basis the very next afternoon. BGE had a subcontractor in my home to install a new gas meter and discovered a gas leak in some joints away from the old meter. I was tagged and all service shut off until I could have the leak repaired and the repairs verified. Obviously, I needed hot water and heat so called Winegar immediately. They had someone out to my home within hours and he not only fixed the leaks BGE found but located a few more and made those repairs as well. Some of the leak/pipe locations were very difficult to get at but he managed to make all of the repairs in a timely manner. It was wonderful to find a company that triages their work as the calls come into the scheduling center and that cares about its customer's comfort. Thank you!

On a Friday evening, a pipe froze above our laundry room, and water was leaking from the ceiling. I had to shut the water off to the whole house until the pipe could be repaired. I called W H Winegar Friday evening based on Angie's List reviews and the fact that they offer their services 24/7. Terry Winegar answered the phone and said that he could come the next morning (Saturday) at 10am to repair the pipe. Terry arrived at 10am, assessed the situation and replaced a section of half-inch pipe about 2 feet long. Terry was extremely professional and I feel like I paid a fair price for the work completed, especially given that it was on a weekend. Terry offered suggestions for ensuring that the pipe would not freeze again. I would gladly hire W H Winegar again.

I couldn't be happier with the service I received, from my first phone call scheduling my appointment through my service date. Lisa was very pleasant when I called to schedule and the person who came to my home (I believe it was Terry, the owner) was also very pleasant and helpful. He advised that I may want to consider eventually replacing both toilets. They are old and not the best quality. I'm sure they will be hearing from me again. Thanks for your terrific service!
