The first job was a true emergency. We awoke to find water coming out from a recessed light in the ceiling near the rear of our house. I had recently turned on our whole house humidifier, and turning it off stopped the flow of water, so I had a good idea where the water was coming from. Winegar Plumbing came to us the same day I called, opened the ceiling near the recessed light from which the water had come, found that the condensate drain line into which the humidifier was attached had not been installed correctly (the joint between two lengths of PVC pipe had not been primed before the glue had been applied), determined that the glue joint was leaking, replaced about 5 or 6 feet of PVC pipe, and tested the drain for leaks. It took around 60-90 minutes to do the work. Good job. The second job was to find the source of a small amount of water that appeared on the floor immediately next to one of our toilets. I assumed that we had a leaking toilet seal. This time, it took Winegar longer to arrive, and both of their workers tracked mud onto white carpet on our interior stairs and through our master bedroom. Our housekeeper had to ask them to remove their shoes. They complied. They determined that the valve controlling water to flow into the toilet had become loose. They tightened the connecting nut (not the valve handle, but a connection closer to the wall than the valve control handle), and that fixed the leak. The only reasons why our rating is not a perfect score are the tracking of mud onto our carpet and the less than prompt response to the call about the toilet valve.
Description of Work: We used them twice. First to detect and fix the source of a water leak that turned out to be a poorly constructed air conditioning condensate drain line and next to detect and repair a leaking toilet water supply valve.

A Winegar's plumbing professional, Jim, came out. Diagnosed disposal issue. Recommended against having the work done at that time, because I would soon be switching out under-counter Kitchen cabinets. He gave advice re preventing leaks around and under sink, and advised on how that work and materials could help prevent future leaks. Jim was awesome. He did not know I was an Angieslist customer until he was leaving. Yet all along the way he made sure I was doing what would be most effect and financially responsible for me, not just trying to make a buck for his company. I've been looking for a new plumbing company. And I found it! I'm going to use Winegar for all my future plumbing.
Description of Work: Checked leaks under sink. Gave excellent consult as to what to do, and how to do it effectively to save money.

On the scheduled day workers arrived on time and began working in the bathroom and the two exterior *spigots. Terry (the owner) showed up a couple hours into the job and assisted the workers, mostly with the spigot replacement. The work (part 1) was completed and all seemed well. *I appreciated that Terry showed me that a small 3/8 inch crack had occurred to the vinyl siding during the install of one of the spigots. It was no big deal and covered with silicone, but was nice that he showed it to me rather than simply hide it. At this point all is well. I had my tile guy come in to tile the tub surround and then contacted WH Winegar to come back to finish installing the shower fixtures. I was not home when the plumber came to complete the work. That evening I checked the shower and ran the water. First, water shot out from the shower head and tub faucet at the same time--shouldn't happen as the diverter was not pulled to activate the shower. Next, I noticed the hot was cold and the cold was hot--they had either installed the unit upside down (so hot was entering where cold was suppose to) or had reversed the hot and cold lines going into the valve. Next, I realized water dripping out of the shower head connection point--either they didn't use Teflon tape on the pipe threads or didn't tighten the head enough. I called WH Winegar again and schedule them to return and fix the job correctly. Again, I was not home when the worker came. They had to gain access to the backside of the plumbing (couldn't mess with tiled side as it was nicely finished), this meant cutting the wallboard inside my towel closet. I saw evidence that they had re-piped the hot and cold. They also fixed the diverter issue. I came home checked it and ran the water and all worked as it should; but...I still had drips coming from the shower head connection. I caveat my ratings by saying Terry is great--but often times he isn't the guy doing the work as in my case with the tub; but his people reflect on him and his company. I am very handy (dad is contractor in another state and I worked for him for 8 years) and know how jobs should be completed. This job was textbook plumbing 101 nothing overly complex. The errors on my tub job were due to laziness, lack of attention to detail, and little pride in worksmanship (this is why I rated F for professionalism). Responsiveness was great throughout the process and everyone I dealt with was polite and knowledgeable. Maybe this was a one-off bad day...but business is about doing things right the first time and exceeding customer expectations--maybe for your job!? Oh...I'll take off the shower head Teflon it up and screw it back on myself to eliminate the drips. Update. I later discovered the rubber seal between the tub and the overflow drain was defective (water was leaking to the ceiling of the first floor). This was Manufacture Defect 100% (Made in Taiwan), I contacted Terry and he came out the next day and fixed it. He apologized for the difficulties I had had with the tub and sent a drywall guy to repair the ceiling at no cost. I appreciate that Terry didn't abandon the job or make excuses. He made things right and that's tough to find; because of this I upgraded my original ratings.
Description of Work: -Replace two hose spigots with freeze free valves -Install new bathtub and connect old drain and water lines -Install Durarock on walls surrounding tub. -Return (after tile is installed) to connect shower fixtures -Move hot water pipe (for sink) over a few inches on the wall *I supplied the tub and shower fixture

Called in Thursday morning re a backup from a basement floor drain. Initially, office said they would not be able to get to us until Friday morning. After getting our contact info/address, the woman who answered the phone said she would check to see whether they could get someone out that afternoon. She called about 15 minutes later and said they would have someone out that afternoon by 4 p.m. and would call when the plumber was on his way. Got a call after noon that the plumber was on his way. that he would be driving a company truck and wearing a company t-shirt. He arrived about 1. Checked things out; decided to replace the cut-off valve first because he said he didn't want to track dirt from the drain problem to our upstairs bathroom. Finished both tasks in less that 2 hours and explained in detail to my spouse what he had done.

I got a total of three estimates to replace a leaking copper pipe that ran from the front lawn through the basement flooring. I chose W H Winegar & Son Plumbing and Heating because not only did they provide the lowest bid, they explained exactly what needed to be done and how it would be done (plus they had great ratings from Angie?s list). I had family members, one a builder and another a plumber (not licensed for that type of job), stopped by beforehand to see the damage and their explanation of the cause and work to be done matched W H Winegar & Son Plumbing and Heating?that was another plus. W H Winegar & Son Plumbing and Heating arrived promptly at 7 am to start the job and everything went smoothly with replacing the copper pipe. It only took about 4 ½ to 5 hours. The only issue was as they were back-filling the hole, a piece of clay fell on the FIOS line and snap it. They stopped work and called Verizon to make an appointment to replace the line; they told me to hold off on the payment until Verizon finished the job to make sure Verizon didn?t charge me to replace fiber optic line. Of all the things that could have gone wrong, I was okay with the FIOS line snapping being the ?thing?. They did such a wonderful job that I had them install a sub-meter within a few weeks after replacing the leaking copper pipe.

I noticed a leak in the supply line to the refrigerator, which was flooding my basement. Tim came out and located the break in the line. He recommended replacing the entire line with copper, which was more reliable. He did so in about an hour, without any complications or problems. He also gave me some advice about a broken sink faucet --- he couldn't repair it, but he told me how to get the necessary pieces for free from the manufacturer. All in all, no problems, and the plumber certainly knew exactly what he was doing.

We recently re-did a 50 year old original master bathroom in our house. It went from a 4 x 8 foot horrible space to a new 8 x 13 wonder. I drew up some sketches of what we wanted and called a few contractor's from Angie's list. Winegar gave us a competitive quote (although not the lowest). What impressed me was their (Terry) office attention to scheduling and communication and promptness While on the job, which required multiple visits between the framing contractor, the tiler (me) and the electrical contractor their lead plumber (Scott) was very professional and knowledgeable. Their crews kept the work space and surrounding areas clean and they were prompt and efficient. I also appreciate that they perform work with building permits (which was one of my requirements). I definitely would recommend Winegar and would use them again.

We had a leak from the toilet in a 2nd floor bathroom and the leak was visible in a downstair closet. The technician looked on both floors and decided for whatever reason to start with the downstair closet. Since the downstair closet has built-in shelves, he spent 2 hours ripping/cutting out the shelves. When he was able to get into the closet, he started chiseling/cutting away the wood ceiling. Our house has these super thick (> 3 inches) wood ceiling since it's integral to the structure of the house, so needless to say that he didn't get through the roof, but made a huge mess of it. There are holes in the drywall from removing the shelves and several pieces of wood chunks a couple of feet long he chiselled off of the ceiling. The closet is basically _destroyed_!! After a couple of hours of fruitless effort, he decided that it was too much trouble and decided to go upstairs to look at the toilet. He removed the toilet and voila, the leak was right there. It turns out that a collar was too short and overtime slipped off the pipe. It took him 20 minutes to remove the toilet, fixed the collar, and put the toilet back. We understand that there's a leak of which the location can't be pin pointed to from looking at it. You can approach from top or bottom. Our complaint is that when presented with the two options: remove the toilet to look from above, or rip out the entire closet and drill through the roof to look from bottom, why on earth would anyone choose the more complicated/time-consuming/damaging route first?!! Now we fixed a minor leak problem and are left with a much more significant/expensive carpenter job to repair the ceiling, reconstruct the walls in the closet and rebuild the shelves. To add insult to injury, we had to pay for the 2 hours the technician spent demolishing our closet. Where's the justice for that? When I called to complain, the owner of the company basically told me that they think technician made a sound choice. As good a rating as they have on Angie's list, I wouldn't use them again. I can't count on their technicians having common sense and their owner to look out for the customers in case of a problem.

Discovered possible pinhole leak on Monday morning. Called into WH Winegar. SPoke with very nice person (Lisa?) said she would try to get someone out on Monday, but was real busy and could schedule something for Wednesday. I tried a few other plumbers and none had availability, so I called back on Tuesday afternoon hoping she still had me scheduled for Wednesday. Fortunately, she did. Actually had someone at my house earlier than promised. Jim showed up early and evaluated problem. Found the pinhole leak and got it repaired and us back to normal in just over an hour. 2nd time Jim has been to our house, first was a minor sink issue. He is very good and thorough. Will definitely call again when I need a plumber!

I chose Winegar to do my plumbing because of the A rating on Angie's list. Scheduling the appointment went smoothly. They sent two technicians/trucks out because work needed to be done on 2 bathrooms. The repairs to the sink and faucet in the master bathroom went fairly smoothly. The iron sink game the technician a bit of a problem because the drain was a little rusted, but he was able to fix it. The second technician worked in the guest bathroom with much less success. He was supposed to replace the sink faucet and replace the washer in the shower. It sounded simple enough. He took the sink faucet out and said the sink was too rusted so he couldn't put the new faucet in. I offered to run out and get a new sink but he said he had another appointment and couldn't stay to put it in. He took the faceplate off the shower handle (there was no rear access panel) and attempted to replace the washer. In the process he broke the shower gizmo in the wall (said it was overtightened previously) and he would have to cut a larger hole in the tile and do some sodering to fix it and that I would need a remodeling plate to cover the hole (which I didn't have). So he left the shower as well as the sink inoperable. I paid them $400+ and they left. I decided to replace the cabinet as well as the sink in the guest bathroom. So I got the materials and put everything in place so Winegar would only have to reconnect the plumbing. I also bought a remodeling plate for the shower. I called several times to get a technician to finish the repairs (inoperable for a month). And finally got a call from Mr. Winegar. I kind of thought Winegar would come out and finish the job at no additional cost, but these negotiations turned into a shouting match with Mr. Winegar. I kind of felt like he was trying to intimidate me. He came out himself to look at the state the guest bath was in and give me an estimate to fix it. He said it was not their fault that the shower gizmo broke and I had to pay extra because they had to do cutting and sodering. I didn't think it was fair, but is is an old house and I was stuck. A technician came out and connected the guest bath sink and repaired the shower for an additional $600. Now that I've used the bathrooms for a couple of months, I see that the technician did not put a diffuser or something in when he replaced the nozzle in the master bathroom (so the water makes a huge spray when you turn it on) and installed the shower handle in the guest bathroom upside down. But at least both bathrooms are operational and with no leaks!
Description of Work: Winegar replaced master bathroom sink faucet, replaced a washer and nozzle in tub. They also replaced guest bathroom sink faucet and repaired a leaky shower. I supplied the replacement faucets.

I noticed that the water heater was leaking from the top of the heater so I called the company that was listed on my existing gas hot water heater to ask them to come out to look at the heater to assess the damage to the water heater. They came out and told me that I needed to replace the heater and provided me an estimate. Because I was sure that I could get a heater installed for a lower cost, I shopped on line and checked Angie's list for plumbers in my area. I found W H Winegar and Son and a few others. I called all of the companies that I found on Angie's List and W H Winegar and Son was one of the few companies that called me back right away(before the beginning of the business day). The person who called me back( I can't remember her name) was very helpful and patient with me. She answered my questions and if she didn't know the answer to a question, she asked the plumber. I asked for an estimate based on the information that I was given by the initial company that came out and their estimate was a lot lower. Because of the age of my home and the water heater that was in place, I asked about any additional items that might need to be installed to bring the heater up to the state and/or county code for water heaters. This was to help me to determine if there may be additional costs that had not been provided in the initial estimate. The plumber was knowledgeable and able to give me a worst case scenario regarding additional costs so that I could make a decision based on all of the information. There were additional costs and with the additional costs, W H Winegar and Son's pricing was comparable, and in some cases, competitive, to other companies but they were also the closest to my home. They were able to fit me on to the schedule for that day and I was so grateful. They arrived to install the water heater around 3pm and they were done at or before 4 pm. They didn't make a mess. They protected my carpet by covering the area they walked on to get to the room where the water heater was located. They cleaned up after the work was done. They were efficient and made the process convenient. My water is heating better than before. I would definitely use them again for my plumbing needs because they are nearby and their prices are competitive.
Description of Work: They replaced my old gas hot water heater that was about 9 years old with new State water heater that has a longer warranty. The plumber and I guessed that the hot water heater probably had a 6 year warranty. They picked it up from the retailer just before installing it and they arrived ahead of time. Also, they took away the old water heater. Once I decided that I wanted the water heater, they came out the same day to install my water heater. They were neat and took care not to trample dirt or dust on my carpet. They covered my carpet where they were walking back and forth to the truck.

On the initial call, Mr. Winegar was very responsive and came to look at the problem the very next day. We had a leak on our kitchen drain line which went into through cinderblock wall of our house and into the dirt to connect with the main line. He suggested that we put a camera through the pipe to get a sense of where the pipe was going because we couldn't really tell without doing some digging. The camera work cost $400. Once they determined where the pipe lead, they were able to determine what work had to be done to fix the problem. Essentially, they had to dig through the floor of our guest bathroom to get to the pipe. They jackhammered the floor open, dug out the dirt and put it the garage, took out the old pipe and replaced it with pvc pipes. They replaced the dirt and took out the rest of the tile from the shower basin floor as we decided to use the opportunity to renovate the bathroom. The workers were very courteous, friendly, and polite. They were able to accommodate my schedule as I had to juggle letting them in the house and dropping and picking my kids from camp. The only problem I had was in scheduling them to come out as the owners went on vacation and I had to wait until they returned to do the scheduling. Overall, I am very happy with the results and would definitely use the company again.

I t all went smoothly. The plumber arrived on time, put on shoe covers before coming into the house to begin work. He had a sense of humor and explained what he was going to do. The installation required time, the right tools and patience on the part of the plumber. This plumber had all three including a sense of humor. Our new water filtration system is fantastic. WE can taste the difference in our water which looks clear. I am drinking more water because it tastes so good. WE are so happy we called Winegar and Sons and will call them again when we need an expert plumber.
Description of Work: Installed a water filtration system which we had purchased from a company in Nevada. This involved temporarily removing the garbage disposal and install 5 different filtration containers under the sink. They also installed a new above counter faucet for the filtered water and a new faucet to replace our regular faucet. They also installed a filter so that the ice and water coming out of the refrigerator would be clean. They gave us a $25 dollar reduction because we had used "Angie's List'.

I had 3 small jobs related to the downstairs sink and one overhead copper pipe. I called on Wednesday to schedule an appointment and was told that they could come out the following day in a window between 8am-noon. Around 9am Terry called to say he'd be there within a half hour. 20 minutes later he arrived and the jobs were completed in less than an hour. Terry made a few suggestions as to other work that could be done but was not pushy about it; just a friendly recommendation. I would not hesitate to call him for any future plumbing needs.

Excellent company with excellent service. We called them at 10 am and they had this installed by 4 pm same day. Arrived on time, and were highly efficient and professional. They are doing some follow up work for us and they have communicated very well.
