Great experience. Really nice when I called, and they were able to fit me in the next day since I was flexible on the time as I was working at home. They called me in the a.m. to give me a window, and then updated me later that day. Jim came as promised and replaced the broken plastic stopper with a solid brass stopper which he showed to me first to get my ok on it (it was not cheap). He also checked the water temperature in my daughter's bathroom, and told me I didn't need to get my sinks snaked - even though I was willing to pay for that service. He was honest and personable, and I plan to use Winegar's for all our plumbing needs in the future.

Joe quickly found the problem and fixed it. He also gave me advice about how to choose a new toilet to replace the 30-year-old fixtures I have. I will definitely be calling Winegar to install my new toilets and for any other plumbing problems I have.

This was the day after a big snow fall, yet the response time was amazing. Our road was plowed so the crew (two men) were able to get to us. They were efficient and professional. Two hours and a lot of gunk later our drain was clear. They had to move our washer and dryer. They cleaned up and restored the laundry room to its original look.

Jim the technician arrived on time and had even confirmed the appointment the day before. I had called him about a leaky toilet that had already been worked on by two plummers within the last three months. It was determined within about 20 minutes that the prior work had been done wrong and the real problem was never addressed properly. Jim was very kind and professional and went out of his way to explain in great detail . Apparently the flange from the toilet was cracked and the prior plumbers had only caulked it and filled the crack with wax .As jim said it was only a band aid solution . As a result of the prior poor work the water has come thru my basement ceiling ,rotted wood, destroyed a large part of the ceiling and even destroyed the rug. In the future i will only call Jim from Winegar and son for all my plumbing needs.

I was impressed with the service by WH Winegar. Great service, knowledgeable people.
Description of Work: Our problem, which was a backed up toilet, happened on a Sunday. We did not want to pay Sunday prices, so Mr. Winegar said he would get to our place early on Monday. He showed up at 8am, fixed the problem promptly, and gave us good advice as to how we could avoid a plumbing call for the same problem again.

Water heater sprung major leak yesterday, without any warning, and the shut off for water heater wouldn't work. We had to shut off all water to house the previous evening to control the leak. Called company in the morning and they came out and replaced the water heater that afternoon. The installers were pleasant, professional and did a great job. They explained maintenance, new features, and how to operate controls. In addition, they cleaned up everything from the installation and removed the old water heater.

Our problem was our hot water heater wasn't working all the time. Sometimes it was fine, sometimes no hot water. When we looked at it, it seemed the flame would come on and immediately go out. Obvious thought was whatever it is that keeps the heater from allowing the gas to run without a flame was cutting the gas when it shouldn't. Based on Angie's list, we called Winegar. They sent a technician out the same or next day. He spent about 90 minutes investigating the problem (couldn't seem to figure it out or maybe he was just being thorough). Ultimately he concluded that the burner sensor was shot. He said he called the manufacturer and the manufacturer told him that the replacement part wasn't available but a "retrofit" was but they (the manufacturer) didn't recommend it. So the recommendation from the plumber was, of course, replace the water heater for $2500. Oh, and that will be $238 for the advice, after a $25 coupon from Angie's List. (Actually, the technician only deducted $20 from the $258 bill, which we figured out later.) The idea of replacing a water heater for what seemed like a burner issue seemed a little odd to us so we called the manufacturer ourselves. Turns out the part does exist and replacement is possible. We called a second plumber, who was able to secure the part and complete the service. He also was able to temporarily fix the problem by cleaning the sensor, which was something the person from Winegar did not do. He seemed surprised that another plumber (i.e., Winegar) would have suggested replacing the heater, which is in a climate controlled basement and outwardly in excellent shape. After all this, I called Terry Winegar, who I believe is the owner. He seemed genuinely interested in resolving things. He told us that his recommendation was to replace the heater because heaters do not have a long life span anyway (ours was 12 years old). I can respect that as an opinion, but what sticks in my craw was that the manufacturer told us the part was available and a repair could and should be made. Terry attributed that to the manufacturer (presumably two different people at the manufacturer) telling his guy one thing and us another. Terry ultimately refunded some our money, but kept $103, which he described as his company's "minimum" fee for a service call. The check for the refund came very promptly. I imagine Winegar is a perfectly fine company, but our experience was not awesome. Terry himself seemed genuinely unhappy that we were not satisfied (to a point - he did keep the $103).

I called to get an estimate to purchase two low to mid-level American Standard round-bowl toilets to be installed in my home. I forget the name of gentleman who called back about 30 minutes later. I explained again what I was looking for and he said he would be able to do it for $1,450.00 in a few days. I thanked him and said I would think about it. I first called this AL plumber because there were over 150 overall "A" reviews and they are located in my little town of Burtonsville. I then purchased the toilets I was looking for at Home Depot for $450.00, purchased them, and called another AL plumber to install them and paid $495.00 for installation, saving myself $500.00. I did not call back WH Winegar because I felt that the price quoted initially, even factoring in their mark-up for the toilets, was outrageous. Often times AL members will go with a particular contractor because that company may have hundreds of "A" ratings. The contractors have the right to charge whatever people are willing to pay. And since this particular contractor has so many great reviews, they obviously find enough people out there willing to pay inflated prices for the same quality of work that others can provided. I have no doubt, based on all of those reviews, that WH Winegar is a first-rate plumbing contractor. I was just not prepared to pay $500 more than a reasonable cost for their service. This a common "problem" on AL. Members see the hundreds of reviews and just go with a particular contractor, regardless of the price. I simply want to remind my fellow AL members that there are many AL contractors out there that can also do the job that may not have as many "A" reviews, but do have several overall "A" ratings. My overall grade of "F" is based solely on the estimate provided to me. The only way to make this work better for all members is to have as many reviews for as many contractors which keep the prices competitive for all AL members.

Called on Monday, 1/27 and made an appointment for services. Informed the person on the phone about a leaky gasket and fill valve problem. Estimated time would be between 12pm and 4pm. On Tuesday the service person ( named Johnny) called with an arrival time of 12:45pm. And he was here at that time! We reviewed what had to be done and he suggested to replace the fill valves in both bathrooms and gave me an estimated price He had to get the special gasket from a local plumbing supply store which he did.. All told. with the labor and materials it was a fair price. Used them before and would use them again.

As one of the many unlucky people whose pipes froze when temperatures in MD dropped below zero last week, I was thrilled to have found such a great plumber on short notice. I called and left a message before opening hours on the 7th because the sink in my kitchen and the water on my fridge weren't working and I suspected frozen pipes. They returned my call almost immediately when they opened - the woman (I think her name was Julia?) was extremely friendly and professional - she gave me some tips for what to do in hopes that I could thaw the pipes out myself and avoid the cost of having someone come out. She also told me they would be more than happy to send someone out should I need it. A few hours later (after using a space heater on the pipes for a while), I called her back since I couldn't fix the issue. She said they could send someone out that day, and honestly, I was shocked that I'd get such immediate service. Scott arrived at my place around 4:30 after calling to give me a heads up that he was on the way. (He called beforehand just to check if the problem had resolved itself... again, to help me avoid a costly service call, which I thought was very nice.) It took him a little while to find the problem - he climbed in and out of my "basement" (which is more like a dark, damp root cellar), under the sink, and behind the stove to check things out. In the end, he used two hair dryers on the wall behind my stove (after cutting a few holes to let the warm air in), and it solved my problems. He gave me tips on what to do going forward to avoid having this issue again as well. All and all, Scott was AMAZING - very prompt, professional, and friendly. The overall cost was even less than I expected, and of course, they gave me a discount for being an Angie's List member. I would highly recommend him and this company to anyone who has any plumbing issues, and I know exactly who will be my first call when I need a plumber in the future!

Maryland has pretty mild weather, but this winter has been especially cold. When temperatures dipped down into the negatives, we along with many others went through pipes freezing and bursting. Luckily it was only the pipe to our outside spout! Because the area was hit hard, I had to be placed on a waiting list. When I called they were extremely kind and even though they were crazy busy, the man on the phone took time to give me individualized attention. He told me to let the water remediation team take care of things, then they would come in and do their handiwork since it wasn't the main water line for the house. I received a follow up call two days later when they finally were able to get me on the schedule. Again, the person was extremely pleasant! Jim then called me the morning of, just as I was promised to say he would be coming out within the hour. He arrived promptly, reviewed the problem. Told me what to do in the future to avoid the problem and then got to work. The whole process took about 1 hour and 15 minutes and then we chatted a little after the "clock stopped." Jim was just excellent, he made sure to check all his work, turning the water back on and then off to drain the line so it doesn't happen again this winter. The process was painless and I would be happy to give them my business again! Thanks, Jim and team!!

This morning when we woke up we had no cold water running in our second floor bathroom. We called several places before we reached WH Winegar . We called the emergency line and the gentleman that picked up the phone was more than professional. He told us that most likely a pipe is frozen and adviced us on what to do. He then called us 2 hrs later to see how everything was going. It was so wonderful to have someone on the other line advising us what we should do as if i was talking to my uncle. The pipe defrost by itself and following the instructions of WH Winegar!!!! Thank you so much for your advise and support!

I was very pleased. Jim the plumber from Winegar arrived on time at 8 AM and was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I showed him the problems and he immediately knew what was needed. He was able to complete all of the repairs in a short time (about an hour) and he saved me money by installing a new cartridge in the shower faucet instead of trying to sell me a whole new one. He also upgraded the piping to the showerhead so it will last for a very long time, and he replaced the wax seal in the base of the toilet and installed poly shims to replace the old worn out wooden shims so now it is rock solid and the shims will not be able to compress and lose their functionality land fail like the old ones did. I will definitely call Winegar should I ever have a need for a plumber again.
Description of Work: I had a short list of small but very much needed repairs: The shower head pipe where it goes into the wall had a small but growing leak just inside the wall; The shower faucet was leaky and needed either a replacement cartridge inside it or to be full replaced; A powder room toilet that was mounted on a floor that had slightly uneven cement under the linoleum was rocking a little.

I called W H Winegar and they sent a person the next morning. Jim, the mechanic, called before coming and arrived when he said he would, He quickly diagnosed the problem and implemented the fix. I was impressed with his knowledge and the way he went about doing his job. Before he left he took the time to explain to me what I should do to avoid a repetition of this problem. When it turned out to be the dishwasher, the plumber, Jim, installed a dual shut-off valve on the hot water line under the sink so that the leak could be shut off until I could get the dishwasher repaired and allowing me to continue to have hot water at the kitchen sink. Jim also took a cell phone picture of the leak. When the man came to repair the dishwasher, he could not reproduce the leak. I called Winegar and Jim called back shortly and described the location over the phone to the repairman. Without that help, the plan was to turn the water back on and wait for the leak to reappear, at which time the repairman would return and fix it. Winegar's foresight and responsiveness saved us this delay. Jim is an excellent plumber and is also friendly, personable, and funny, making dealing with a plumbing problem less of an unpleasant experience.

I had difficulty finding a plumber who could come quickly to my house when my gas hot water heater stopped functioning. It was very inconvenient not having hot water and the prospect of waiting for 3-4 days for a plumber was concerning. After calling 6 plumbers on Angie's List, one who never returned my call, I contacted Mr. Winegar. He scheduled an appointment for the next day between 1-4. He called me around 11:45 am to say he could come early, but I needed 45 minutes to commute home from my place of employment. Mr. Winegar arrived promptly at 1 pm, quickly determined the problem, and made the repairs within 30 minutes. It was great that he accepted the Angie's List $25 coupon for first time customers. Mr. Winegar took time to show me how to light the pilot, not an intuitive process on the model water heater that I purchased 3 years ago. Overall, I found Mr. Winegar to be extremely professional. I highly recommend him!

Jim, the technician, came back a few days later to try to remedy the situation by using a camera in our main line. He spent about half an hour trying to get the camera to work and charged me another $400. I called the company the next day and spoke to one of the owners, Terry, who said I never should have been charged if the camera was never even used. He said that he would credit that $400 towards a full replacement. Their quote came in even more than that above the other estimates I received (at about $4,900). Terry told me he didn't know how long the main line was or what the angles were, however every other company I talked to knew exactly how to tell me that information.
Description of Work: They snaked my main line. I had the same kind of work done for $250.00 by another company. All the reviews I say about this company were less than $300 but they charged me over $500!
