P. J. McTavish & Co. from Burtonsville, MD was hired to replace and repair a very old damaged roof on my Rancher Home, which has a few additions in the rear. These additions have many peaks, valleys and an area of flat roof. We had many other companies look at it and some didn’t even want to take on the job, and if they did it was for a price I could not afford. I had officially given up hope. This truly was not an easy job to partake in. Hiring P.J. McTavish & Co. was truly the best decision. Mr. Pat was caring and truthful about the horrible shape my roof was in. I knew he was being truly honest, cause I heard from other contractors the same problems. But he assured us his team would do the job as efficiently as possible. Each and everyone on his team were respectful, efficient, and professional. I was so impressed with how his team worked so closely together and seemed to take a lot of respect in their work, and our home and yard…which let’s be honest…you do not see that much in today’s world. Pat kept us well informed of all the progress. There are not enough “Thank You’s” I can give to this whole team of wonderful men. Everyone stayed steadily busy and worked very hard. Mr. “Pat” McTavish must be so proud of his employees. Happy employees show good management. My hat is off to you Pat and your team! The work was supreme and done extremely well. Pat was extremely rude and condescending when he came over to provide an estimate. I had an issue with a couple of leaks in my roof after a particularly heavy rainstorm. Pat insulted my judgment and said I needed a new roof that would cost $50,000. This is more than ten times what I paid to get my roof replaced ten years ago! I asked him to give me a quote on just repairing the two areas where I was experiencing a leak. To just put some tar down, he quoted $1,800! This was over five times what I eventually paid another roofing contractor to do the work and the repairs involved a lot more than just slapping tar down. Aside from quoting shockingly high prices, he displayed no civility. I had to endure fits of screaming and insults. Of the dozens and dozens of interactions with contractors that I've had over the years, this is by far the worst.

PJ McTavish was outstanding from start to finish. They were responsive, the owner himself, contacted me within minutes of when I left a message. He understood the roofing issues, took time to listen to my explanation, looked up the house on Google maps as we were talking, and fit me into his schedule the very same day. He did not oversell or undersell what needed to be done in order to correct the problem. When the repair crew arrived, they too were very knowledgeable, and professional and explained their approach and rationale for the fix. They did not know it at the time, but I am a real estate investor with over 30 years of home renovation experience and it was evident to me that the McTavish employees doing the repair, were doing it right, and taking all of the right precautions, using the correct materials and exercising the right workmanship to ensure a successful repair. Their knowledge and expertise was second to none and I cannot give a higher recommendation for roof repair, particularly if you have a house with an old slate roof. They did not take any shortcuts and did the job right, at a very fair and reasonable price. They are at the top of my list for all my future roofing and roof repair related needs. Truly an excellent company at every level, including superb customer service. five out of five stars!!!!

Patrick and his crew were professional and speedy and their quality of work was top notch. There was a bit of miscommunication over one repair to a dryer vent pipe that did not get done. Patrick called me the next day to tell me the work to the dryer vent wasn't completed and he sent his crew back out the next day to complete it - a repair I probably would never have noticed wasn't done. While their price wasn't as low as some other companies that came out, the quality of work is well worth it. Patrick really knows roofs - especially those on old row homes.

We used TPO for the flat roofs. Several shingle options were provided. We chose Certainteed Landmark Pro 50 year warranty shingle, It was best for the style of the roof. Roofer & associated Carpentry Company advised there may be other needed work that is "Out of Scope" and would advise as they discovered the need. They did so. The autumn 2016 weather was good, and work was done promptly, with thorough clean up of the premises. Flashing was replaced, the Chimney and gutters were inspected, Replacement hangers for gutters were installed. only one of the existing gutters was found to be in need of being replaced.

The guy came out and was very rude. Also, his quote was $8,800, which was more than $3,000 over the other two quotes I got for the exact same thing. He did come out the same day I called, so that was one good thing, but so did the other two guys.

Patrick returned with the two men who would do the job and also with shingles that were comparable in every way to mine but just a tiny little difference in the shade of the black. As not visible I requested to use what was available and kindly offered to me at a significant savings (over ordering the color match) for which I was most appreciative. The two men, Dave and Israel were very nice and expertly completed the repair under time and under original quote! Of Note| while Patrick was getting the ladder from his car, a neighbor approached him to come and look at his roof and he absolutely DID DO IT after my estimate was done! I am so pleased with the service, efficiency, concern and care for the customer and the overall friendly professionalism from everyone I encountered! I am going to pass the info along to our homeowners association so that others in our neighborhood can enjoy being taken care of in time of stress.

He was very responsive. I'm going to have him come out and give me an estimate to redo my whole roof. I called another company and they said they could get to me in three weeks. I called him and he came out the same day. It only took him less than an hour to do the repairs. He got up on the roof, identified what the problem was. There was a nail that was popping up through the shingles. He pounded it down and put some tar or something over it. That was it. He was really fast.

These folks are fantastic, I am a big gardener and have about 150 pots. Not a single plant was damaged with the job, these guys are extremely careful and efficient with their work. I couldn't be more pleased with the work and professionalism this company has shown.

It was a huge job and was done superbly. There was nothing bad at all. He was absolutely good, honest and on time. His people were good and cleaned up after themselves. They put scaffolding up and were so conscientious. They were incredibly good and was fabulous. His pricing was competitive and they did quality work.

The first challenge was correctly diagnosing the source of attic and porch roof leaks through what appeared to be sound roofing and masonry. The second was coming up with a creative plan for solving the osmotic leaking without a big rebuilding project. Pat came up with some cost-effective and sound solutions for both problems. The work was executed perfectly.

Pat McTavish has twice now been the first roofer to get back to me after a leaking roof emergency. He's very responsive and honest. Doesn't promise more than he can be sure will be fixed. He also tells you when it would be financially advantageous to wait for certain additional work. His workers are nice, knowledgeable men also. It's hard to imagine doing better than with this company. He'll go out of his way to help you out quickly when you're really in a jam.

The owner showed up on time and was very professional. Unfortunately the quote received was way too high for this kind of service.

I thought the prices were reasonable. I thought that they were very good and quick. They worked steadily and cleaned up as they went. This is the second time I have hired this company.

The diagnosis of the problem and the fix required 2 trips up onto the roof. The problem was fixed quickly. He would not let us pay him for such a small fix, and instead asked us to donate to a charity of his choice. We did that. Amazing in this day and age!

This was an outstanding example of good-old honest quality customer service. He assessed that the problem we were having was not the roof, diagnosed the problem we did have, and offered to help us find another tradesperson to help us! Didn't even charge a penny. You can be confident he will be the first person we turn to when we do need help with the roof. Very professional.

Excellent experience with Mr. McTavish and his workers. He was extremely responsive to my request for an estimate and in performing the repairs. Will definitely use the firm for any future roofing work.

The price came in at about $100 below Pat's estimate. Very pleased - especially that he spotted the problem with the gutter, which was causing dripping and mould on our stoop.

Pat gave a reasonable and fair estimate, and suggested work that needed to be done to make the job more professional. The crew arrived on time and finished within the promised time frames. The new roof looks great and professionally executed. I would definitely recommend this firm to others.

Things went great. Pat was immediately responsive to my email, and was consistently good about following up on the phone at just about any hour, day or night. He was straightforward and honest about pricing and the considerations involved in this sort of repair. He was able to schedule things quickly, and when the time arrived, got his crew in and out in a minimum amount of time and came in under estimate. He and his crew were respectful of the inside of our house (which they had to go through to get up to the roof). He provided excellent follow-up, including pictures of the repair job. About 9 months later, when we had a small leak in the repair during an extremely strong storm, we were talking within 12 hours of my emailing him, and a small crack that had formed was repaired within a few days. I was consistently impressed with his honesty, good communication, professionalism, and punctuality. Although this was a smaller job, I'd definitely turn to him for a larger project.

It all seemed to be fine. They were prompt, responsive and were referred to me. Their pricing seemed to be reasonable although I did not get a ton of bids. I will use them again in the future.

He was on time. It sounded like I was putting the burden on him when he came out. It seemed like a big deal for him to bring his staff and do the work. It did not take a long time for him to put together the figures.

Pat is decent, honest, and goes above and beyond in every encounter we have had with him. He has helped us out on three issues and been amazing all three times. The most recent experience was a leak in the roof which we discovered during a heavy rainstorm on a Sunday night. I called him first thing Monday morning and he was on his way to check on the roof within the hour - I didn't even need to be home and he was in the neighborhood. The roof was fixed the same day between other jobs he had. He came out twice on another matter that didn't turn out to be a roofing issue and had sage advice about what we should do to solve it. Our initial problem was also solved quickly and well. I very highly recommend him.

Called late in the afternoon, got the answering service, and he called back within 5 minutes. He said he would call me a little later to let me know what time he could come the next day (Saturday). He came near the end of the 1-hr window and was gone in 30 minutes (see detailed services description).
