The Design Expo - Flooring Center of Bowie

I called Gene and Design Expo for an estimate on new hardwood floors and two sets of stairs for a townhouse we were in contract for in Baltimore. Gene's estimate was very competitive - and he took the time to explain how the job process would go. As an Angie's List user he factored in a great discount - - so keep that in mind! We ended up backing out of the contract for the house b/c there are too many structural issues with the house - - but when we do find our new house we will definitely contact Gene and Design Expo again. They were also very easy to schedule with and Gene was right on time (even a bit early!) to the estimate appointment.

Excellent Service. Gene, Scott and Ryan were all very professional. Installers were punctual, stayed until the job was completed (very long day for them) and overall did a great job. Gene worked with us every step of the way and when above and beyond the call of duty to give us a quality product at a price we could afford. He also offered to have the carpet on the stairs cut, returned to the warehouse for binding and then installed. We have received so many comments on how great the carpet looks. We plan on using them again next year when we finish our basement. Would definitely recommend them to others!! Priscilla Flowers

Went with Design expo because of great reviews on angie's list. Was very pleased. Scott was helpful, I had originally planned on vinyl flooring ( cheaper), but after taking to Scott realized that was probably not the best option. He did not try to push more expensive laminate, but when you ask an expert for advice, not smart to ingnore it. Price was good. install over 2 days ( one for laminate, one for carpet) Laminate crew was later than planned, but called to let us know exactly what time would arrive. Went above and beyond replacing a piece of plywood floor that proved to have old water damage once the tiles were removed. Carpet crew was right on time and did a great job. left us several large pieces of carpet that schoot said we could bring to him and have bound it we want to (have not done that yet) Would use again

Installation process went very smooth. The workers were polite and courteous and asked for my opinion about the tile work prior to beginning. I did have to make several phone calls regarding returning for follow-up work (on 2 separate occasions), which could have been completed when the work was finished. However, Scott was very diligent in working with me to make sure that the work was done according to my satisfaction. The area looks beautiful and I would use them in the future.

We stopped by the store in Bowie to take a look at their carpet samples. We got good service and a lot of information from the store employee that helped us. We actually picked out a few samples to bring home. They were very prompt with getting out to see our job. I think what we liked the most in that visit was that the associate did not try to upsell us. He answered all our questions and even measured for 2 projects that were on our "maybe" list. He had some good suggestions for these projects but never tried to "pitch" us anything. He even helped me to make up my mind between the 3 colors samples that I had brought home from the store. His choice was right on. The new carpet looks great. The installers did a great job even though they were a bit late getting to our house. Overall an easy, stress- free experience. I will return to them when I want more flooring work done.

They were very good. They gave us a lot of information on environmentally friendly products which was very useful. They were personable and spent a lot of time with us going over the various options.

The company was responsive from the beginning. Scott visited our home to provide and estimate and was very professional and clear in presenting the costs. He was also very interested in beating any other offers, which he eventually did. There was a delay in the material, but Scott kept us informed throughout the process. The work was done in a day and half and we were very pleased with the results. We would definitely recommend the company.

The experience was great from beginning to end. When we went to the showroom, Scott gave us plenty of time to look around by ourselves and waited until we had questions to answer. Then he gave us prices and advice about the carpet that we liked. Gene came to our house for the estimate and took the time to measure everything accurately. When he gave us the estimate for the work, he knew exactly how the carpet was going to be cut for each room and how much it was going to cost. This made us very confident in the accuracy of the estimate. The workers showed up in the morning of the install and got right to work. They were completely finished by the early afternoon and cleaned up well before they left. The work looks great and the quality of the carpet is excellent. We are very pleased the the experience.

This is one of the most professional companies I've dealt with ever! As soon as I contacted them through Angie's List they got back to me right away and set up an appointment to come to my house. Mr. Gene Burton came and spent about an hour showing me laminate samples and explaining the cost breakdown. This is definitely one company that does not hide their costs. I decided to sign a contract with him and he schedule the appointment for one week later. The workers arrived on time and called 30 minutes before they would be there. They worked quickly and the whole install took about 4 hours. The floor looked beautiful. I was very pleased with the whole experience and would definitely use them again in the future.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Design Expo-Flooring Center to anyone. Mr. Burton came to my home to give me an estimate and brought samples. I went to showroom same day to pick the tile. Work was scheduled for the next week. The installers were punctual, professional, and cleaned up when they were finished. I plan to used company again when I am ready to replace my third level carpet.

Design Flooring Expo Center did an excellent job. They recommended an excellent floor (that wasn't their most expensive) and did a tremendous job with the installation. We're extremely happy with the end result and hope to work with this company again.

After reading Angies List reviews, called Design Expo to discuss potential flooring options for the basement room in question, and they suggested laminate in light of the presence of existing tile of unknown age and composition. Did some research of my own and confirmed this was the way to go. Checked with a few flooring places, and Design Expo had the best price of the places we checked for the grade of floor we were looking at. Salesman (Scott) came by our house a week later (I think it was a week), brought over various samples so we could see them in the room itself, and took measurements. We set up an installation for a Sunday, which meant no one had to miss work for it. Installer called before he arrived to let us know exactly when he'd be there, finished the work right around the anticipated end time, and cleaned everything up when he was done. Floor looks great - no complaints!

First let me tell you.. I am picky. I am not an easy person to win over. I see the little details and honestly I will point them out. We have had a hard time with customer service lately, it seems like nobody really wants our business. We called one company to come out and give us a quote for new floors and we were so frustrated with their stupidity that we were left wondering what to do next about our floors. So we looked here on Angie's list for someone new. We called the Design Expo for a quote on getting new laminate flooring done and talked with Scott. Within a few minutes we were so impressed with his knowlegde that we drove to Bowie to look at the floors that day. Upon entering the store we were really surprised at the amount of samples and ideas. We spoke with Scott and actually we were so suprised to find that actual hardwood floors were so affordable. He really helped us find something that worked with what we wanted. We even went ahead and did the two bathrooms with ceramic tiles. A few days ago our floors were installed. I can't tell you how happy we were with the team of experts who came in to install our beautiful floors. We have NEVER seen any group work harder or faster. Everything was done in 2 days!! They were wonderful, polite, and clean. Our floors look amazing. These guys know floors and are craftsmen. Use them you won't regret it! Thank you Design Expo!!

The saleperson, Scott was very knowledgable about what we were looking for and we were actually able to get an excellent price on hardwood vs. laminate for the bedroom. The visit to the house-measurements, and f/u were great. The men who put in the floors were very professional. They worked well together and very hard until the job was done. They did an excellent job! I would definetly use Design Expo again and will recommend them to others. There was a f/u phone call the evening the work was completed to see how it went.

Gene, the primary contact, was great! I was really impressed by his knowledge and ability to answer my questions and to give advice. I was also impressed with the comprehensive estimate he gave that really displayed an attention to detail. The cost was also quite competitive, especially with the cost breaks he gave for combining the flooring with the tile and carpeting. He told me several times that he really appreciates Angie's List customers and goes the extra mile to keep them happy - indeed the store proudly posted a sticker for Angie's List on the door. The project was done quickly and competently. The two craftsmen were quite professional and friendly. When the process of acclimatizing the hardwood flooring was set back by an air conditioning breakdown, they took the delay with equanimity. The only concern I had was the border around the kitchen tiling stuck up a bit (easy to trip) and they quite readily came by to adjust it. I've had nothing but good things said about the hardwood floor. No problems have come up in the eight months since the project was completed. I unreservedly recommend this company.

The initial contact person, I believe his name was Gene, was excellent. Very professional and helpful. He spoke with us about our thoughts/plans for the 2 rooms. He came out with samples and left some for us to review and gave some advice on how to narrow down the choices (very important as they have access to an overwhelming number of choices for flooring!). We made our selections and set up the installation date. There were 2 crews, one for the carpet and one for the laminate flooring. Both arrived on-time and got to work quickly. The laminate took longer to install just by its nature. We found a small defect in one of the laminate panels when the crew told us to review the work. Unfortunately they had to remove all the panels from the closest wall to the panel with the defect near the center of the room. We felt bad asking them to do it because it was a very small defect but it was something we noticed right away in the center of the room. They did it quickly and with no complaint and it looks great now. The company called us back after the jobs were completed the same day to see if we had any concerns.

Pricing - most competitive in the area Installation - contractors showed up on time, completed as scheduled and did a great job.

Overall my experience went well. I was recommended certain products in the showroom for my foyer and room. Later, an in-home measurement was done and an estimate with the Angie's list discount was given to me. After we agreed on the price, the floors were installed 2 weeks later. This was a simple and smooth transaction without any hiccups.

Gene was very pleasant to work with and worked very hard to get the work done based on the time frame we gave him. The crew was hard working and cleaned up after themselves every day. The lead member of the crew was the only one that spoke English and he wasn't present all of the time. Luckily my husband spoke Portugese. Several times, I had to ask him to redo a cut or portion of the pattern because it just didn't look good, even to my untrained eye. After the first day of work, they left for the evening and I saw a weird cut/placement near the door. The next day I asked him about it and he said the tile would have to be dug out because it was already set, but to his credit, he was patient and redid the pattern as I asked. After that, I made sure I checked the work every hour as it progressed. If I had not been there to oversee, I'm sure I would not have been pleased with the finished job. Also, when he rehooked my washer/dryer in the laundry room he did not check the connections so of course after the first load of laundry there was a leak down to the basement. This was solved by my husband with a simple tightening of the screws. Lastly, I was disappointed that neither Gene, nor anyone from the Center called afterwards to ask how I liked the work. I called them to tell them my praises and complaints. Overall the floor looks great, and they finished on time, but I would probably look for different company for my next flooring project.

Estimator arrived on time, (3/01/10) took measurements showed samples and gave price. I stated that I had a complicated schedule and would need the work done right away. I accepted the price as quoted, the insall was scheduled (at my earliest convience). On 3/8/10 the installers arrived, identified themselves and proceeded. They worked quietly and efficiently. When the work was completed the installers cleaned away any discard,rolled up extra pieces and vacuumed. I am completely satisfied with my experience with Design Expo.

They were very responsive. I left a message and someone got back to me right away. They came on time for the appointment. They were very professional and brought samples for the job they were quoting. They seemed very knowledegeable about the products. We told him we would get bck to them, but we've havent yet because we are waiting to compare to other companies.

Gene Burton was wonderful to work with, showing us many possibilities throughout the store. He allowed us to borrow large sized samples to see how the flooring would look in our home. He kept us updated on the status of material shipments and installation times. The installation team came on time every day and worked extremely hard. They were courteous and cleaned up thoroughly each day. The workmanship was of the highest quality and we are extremely pleased with our beautiful new floors.

We went with The Design Expo based on their reviews on Angie's List. We visited their store in Bowie and met Scott, who helped us pick out the flooring. We didn't know exactly what we wanted and we really appreciated his suggestions. The job took two days, one day for the hardwood and Duraceramic tiles and another day for the carpet. The installers were very professional. My wife and I LOVE our new flooring. The Kempass hardwood that Scott recommended looks beautiful and greatly exceeded our expectations. We also love the carpet he suggested, BluePrint by Dixie, and the Duraceramic tiles. The craftmanship of the work was also excellent. One minor issue was that during the installation of the ceramic tiles, the wire to our alarm system was accidentally cut. When I mentioned this to Scott, he deducted the full cost of the repairs from the final bill. Overall, we had a great experience with this company and highly recommend them!

We selected this company based on their Angie’s List reviews. We had gotten an estimate from a different company, but decided to get additional bids after that company seemed slow to respond. Gene at Design Expo was much more responsive, returning calls immediately and making what we thought was an extra effort to both get our business and make sure we were happy. His initial bid was the highest we received, but because he seemed willing to go the extra yard to get our business, we went back and gave him the opportunity to match the lowest price we had. He not only matched it, he beat it, and so he got the job. The work was delayed for a couple of weeks due to having to wait for the manufacturer to send the flooring. On the scheduled install date, the flooring was put in without problem, and it looks great! We’re very pleased with the whole experience: the sale was no-pressure and Gene provided good information to help us make our decision, the product is first rate, and the installation crew did a good job. The only negative from the whole experience was that some trash was allowed to blow around our yard (it was a somewhat breezy day) and they missed it during cleanup (it was starting to rain). I consider this a fairly minor point. Overall, we couldn’t be happier and we plan to call them back for a bid when we redo the flooring in our hallway, bathrooms, and kitchen.

We provided the carpet that we asked the Design Expo to lay down for us. Payment was for advice on carpet width/length to purchase as well as the labor to install it. They were quick, clean and the carpet looks professionally done. I waited to see if there would be any issues (warping, fraying, etc) and there have been none.
