Young man showed up on time and replaced the faucet. He cleaned up after himself, and even took a Spartan Coupon for $30 off we had found in the local paper. No problems to report.
Description of Work: We had an outside fuacet that had been dripping for quite some time. It seemed like our water bills were going up, and the ground was getting saturated. We called Spartan to make it right.

plumbing, water heater repair

This is a sad story with a happy ending. The week before Thanksgiving, about three days before we were due to leave on a two-week vacation, our water heater quit heating. My first inclination was to wait and deal with it when we returned, but we were also about to have house guests and did not want to have to tell them we had no hot water. So I called Spartan, because I've had several good experiences with them in the past. The plumber, Wade, came by the next day and told me he would have to replace the water heater because it was too old to be worth just replacing the heating coils. Given that it was 18 or 20 years old, I agreed. He quoted me an estimate of a bit more than $1,400. The next day he came to do the work, and it was a disaster. First, he was by himself, and this is a two-man job. The first task was to remove my laundry sink and snake the drain – not directly related to the installation, but necessary. That much was fine. But then he wrestled the old tank out of its nook, and neglected to remove the washing machine supply valves from the water pipes first. Because the pipes were located in front of the tank, it pushed against the faucet handles and bent the pipes. “Aw, that's ok,” he assured me. “You can't really break 'em.” Now, my utility room floor is wood, suspended over a crawl space, and over time it's become a little uneven. It also lacks a floor drain, so Wade decided I did not need a pan under the water heater, since it would not be able to drain. So he manhandled the new water heater into place – this time he did remove the faucet handles first – and it leaned so far over it was against the wall. “Nah, that's not a problem,” Wade said. He fairly quickly realized it was a problem, and I had to interrupt my own work (I had arranged to work from home that day), pull out my circular saw and cut a piece of scrap wood I happened to have to make shims. So we – I was now Wade's helper – got it level and he connected it up an left, after charging me more than the original estimate – even though he had seen the situation the day before and easily could have incorporated what he later wanted to say was extra work into the initial cost. (The bill was not itemized so I have no idea what each individual piece of this cost.) The next day, Wade called and left a message saying he needed to talk about the work, with no details. Meanwhile, I had looked up the plumbing code and thought about the implications of having a 50-gallon tank of water on a wooden floor with no kind of a catch basin in case it leaked, and realized I wasn't happy about it, so I e-mailed Spartan to tell the story above. We then had to leave on our trip, and at 8 a.m. Monday, in a hotel room in North Carolina, my phone rang. It was Wade, saying he needed another $185 than he had charged me (with no explanation of what it was for.) I declined to commit, and a half-hour later, got a call from Tim Shepherd, a manager at Spartan. Here, the story turns. Tim was apologetic and shared my displeasure at the job his company had done for me. He told me to not worry about the call from Wade, and we arranged to have him come look at the situation when we returned from our travel. On Nov. 30, Tim came and confirmed what I'd told him. He said there should be a pan, and when there is no drain connection, it should drain through a small hole in the floor so at least any overflow goes into the crawlspace rather than onto the wood floor. So a few days later, two different plumbers – Tim's A-Team, Tony and Byron – came to redo it. It was like night and day. They put in the pan and the drain into the crawl. They replaced the damaged pipes with new ones, and routed them in a much more sensible way. They even added some new connections to provide water to the laundry sink faucet, which had had none for several years. And they did all this at no additional charge. My only further complaint is that they were not able to make the electrical connection, and told me the wire was too old to work with and would probably need to be replaced. I ended up paying an electrician $150 to come out and make the connection, and the electrician told me there was nothing wrong with the wire – the plumber had just not connected it correctly. However, I have decided to let that go, as Tim and the second team went well above and beyond the call of duty to put things right. Also, I fully understand after all that had happened that they didn't want to risk a possible hazard. I will hire them again in the future, and appreciate the company's commitment to stand behind its work.

I'd been meaning to do this for some time, so with an off day on Veterans Day, I made the call about 11AM. Much to my surprise, they said they could do it that day, and they'd give me a call in the late afternoon when somebody was in the area. In about half an hour, they called me and said that somebody could come in 10 minutes. Sure enough, about 45 minutes after calling them, the HVAC guy was there to perform the check-up. He was nice and friendly...there were no issues...and he accepted the $20 off coupon that I gave him. I was also impressed that they didn't charge extra for checking two different heating units. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Over all it went well. A part to the shower knob had broken off, which required replacement of the whole part. The fixture, however, is a low-end fixture and so the plumber was not sure that he could find the part. He took the knob apart and then went to a plumbing supply store to get a replacement part. He then replaced the knobs with new knobs. The technician seemed very competent. Ultimately, he was able to find a replacement part. The repair did not take too long, but I did have to pay him to drive over to the plumbing supply house. This is not good because the traffic in our area is horrible and even a short trip can take a long time. Still, we are happy to have the knob repaired. I will say, too, that Spartan sent someone right over. Literally, within an hour after my calling the company, a technician was knocking on my door. They've worked for us before. Their technicians are always friendly and polite.

A little pricey, but a great experience.
Description of Work: They were here within 20 minutes of calling. I needed the kitchen drain snaked. I had everything taken apart because I tried to snake it myself(with no luck). They came in, ran the industrial snake, cleared the drain, hooked everything back up and we're done in 20 minutes. $195 is a little pricey for a drain snake job. 1 hour minimum charges are a tough pill to swallow for just a quick snake job, but businesses have to make money and there were two guys that showed up. In the end, they were very fast, efficient, courteous, and most importantly, they got the job done Would use again.

On Friday evening toilet would not flush and tub would not drain in master bath - called Spartan Saturday morning at 7:15 am and call was promptly answered by a helpful person who said someone would be at our house between 8 am and noon. At 8:30 am two workers (James and Felipe) arrived. they were polite and professional - it took them just over another hour to identify the problem and clear the drains, which involved them having to both climb up on the roof and snake the drain from the stack. It appeared there was a giant clog somewhere in the pipes, and before they left they had fixed the problem and made sure the tub and toilet were operating before they left. They advised us prior to getting on the roof that it involved a minimum cost of $395, which ended up being the total cost, but they applied a $30 off coupon for being an Angie's list member so final cost was $365, which we feel was a reasonable cost, especially for a Saturday/emergency call. We considered the service to be very efficient and responsive, and would definitely recommend the company.

The drain that goes underground into the sewer system was backed up so every time it rained, water collected next to my house. Marvin and Byron came out and snaked it all the way to the street. A couple days ago, I made an appointment with a different company to come out today. They cancelled on me after I called to see if they were still coming and didn't bother to call me and let me know. Wanting to fix the problem on the same day since I already took off work, I gave Spartan a call. They arrived in less than two hours from when I called! I didn't even think such a fast response was possible in this industry. The hourly rate was a bit higher than what I was used to, but I still gave the price category an and quot;Aand quot; because it was worth it due to the response time and efficiency with how they worked once they got here. Plus they had the equipment that my regular plumber doesn't have to fix this problem, so you get what you pay for. Eventually when funding is available, I plan on replacing my old lead water main that leads into the house. I'll definitely give these guys a call for the free estimate.

While I didn't find them through Angie's List (My computer was down) I felt a review was warranted here anyway. My air handler started pumping hot air into the house late Friday night which was bad. Saturday morning, using the local phone book, I found SPARTAN and gave them a call. They promise 24hr service and were very responsive to my needs. I scheduled an appointment for that afternoon (They were willing to come out sooner but I had errands to run). The were on time and the service man quickly got to work diagnosing my problem. In short order he found a clogged drainage tube from the air handler which had tripped a switch shutting down the AC. Total repair time: 30 mins (He topped off the freon and gave the AC a good going over). His honesty was refreshing as he could have easily told me I needed an expensive repair but did not. All in all I was very pleased with the servive and felt the price was reasonable.
Description of Work: Diagnosed a problem with the air handler that was preventing the AC unit from functioning. A clogged drain tube and drip pan full of water triggered an auto-cutoff switch. He unclogged the drain tube and emptied the drip pan. He also topped off the freon in my AC unit and checked for any additonal problems.

We had a problem with a nonfunctioning bath/shower faucet (no running water) at our condo in Greenbelt and called Spartan Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning for service. We had used them previously for heat/ac issues at another property and always had a great experience. This experience was the total opposite. The plumbing technician was either incompetent or intent upon hustling us to pay for something we didn't need. After staying there an hour and and quot;attemptingand quot; to fix the problem, he informed us that he could not fix the problem and that it would be $750 to replace the 3-handle faucet. My husband told him no thanks as he felt that price was out of line with what the typical cost should be. He was handed a $154 bill for the and quot;serviceand quot; call. We immediately got on the phone to find another plumbing company. Later that afternoon, Haynes Plumbing came out. The plumber fixed the diverter (yes, fixed) and was on his way in less than an hour (yes, in less time than it took the Spartan plumber to come to the wrong conclusion). So, apparently, we did not need the $750 faucet replacement that Spartan tried to sell us!! The unfortunate thing is that we had to pay twice--Spartan for doing nothing and Haynes for the repair. My husband called Spartan later that day to discuss his concerns and was told that he would receive a return call from the supervisor. Tim called a couple days later and said he wanted to come over to check things out. My husband told him that would not be necessary because we already had the problem repaired by another company. Tim said okay and hung up!! What type of customer service is that?!?!?!?! I can understand paying Spartan's service call fee, but to pay for time spent by either an incompetent or unethical technician is not okay in my book. Spartan has lost a customer.

The operator I called was responsive and quoted me a price over the phone - $295 for the first hour and it generally doesn't take much longer than that. The crew came out within an hour or so and took care of the clog in about 30 minutes. My only nitpick is that I was way over charged for a new wax ring and bolts for my toilet. However, I had a $30 coupon from their website so I still ended up lower than the initial estimate.

I scheduled an appointment with Spartan and was given a four window when they would appear, from 8:00 am to Noon. I stayed home from work in order to meet with them. By Noon no one had appeared. I called and they apologized, saying that there had been an error. They promised to have someone at my house at 3:00. At 2:45 they called and said that they were very busy and asked if they could come the next day. I said absolutely not! I was already accommodating them by waiting for them all day. The individual asked me to remind him what the project was. When I told him the downstairs leak and the upstairs split air system he said, "Oh we don't do split air systems, someone gave you bad information." I told them not to bother showing up to my house as they were wholly unprofessional and unreliable. Stay away from this provider!

I have used this company in the past and been pleased, so when my old, old kitchen faucet needed replacing, I called them. I bought the faucet myself, so the price I paid Spartan was for installation only. The technician arrived within the time window, and went to work immediately. He worked efficiently, and the job gave him no complications, so he finished in about 25 minutes. Since they bill by the half-hour, his speedy work prevented my having to pay for a full hour. I thought I had reviewed them in the past, but I may have forgotten to. In the past, I've had them clear a toilet drain that required going on the roof and fishing an augur down the vent pipe, install a new outdoor faucet and run supply line for an icemaker, and they have always done good work at reasonable cost.

They solved the problem within 20 minutes by using a longer, stronger tool. They actually cleared our drain all the way to the street so, in addition to unclogging the acute blockage, they also have probably solved the chronic clogging problem. They also suggested an enzyme product to maintain the clear drains.
Description of Work: Our main drain clogged and back-flowed sewage into our basement. We tried the 25' snake we've used successfully in the past but it didn't relieve the clog. We called a few plumbers on Angie's List but they were unable to respond on a Saturday night. Thankfully, Spartan promptly sent two employees with an 80+' snake.

They were excellent beyond words. They were very upfront with the cost and the price was excellent. They sent me highly qualified people who knew what they were doing. They are a clean plumber and I didn't know they had been in my house. There was not one speck. They were unable to do the work the way we thought it was going to go but they found an alternative route that was easier. Unfortunately it had to come through a duct in my living room and they had to make 5 or 6 holes in the duct to put the pipe in. There was not a speck of dirt anywhere. The company is owned by a woman. They were thorough and professional. They did the job in a little less than the amount of time estimated. They called and let me know what was going on and recommended the alternate route when they saw that it was not going to work. They did part of the work one day and then came back the next day to finish. They were extremely professional and they knew what they were doing. They came on time. The price was good. I later called them for a minor plumbing job. They came and did the work and they were perfect. I will only use them in the future.

They did a great job. They had competitive price. They were a very professional group. They did it in the time frame that they said they would. They were wonderful. We have recommended them to others. We would use them in the future. UPDATE: A year and a half after the sewer line was replaced, they were in our neighborhood replacing a neighbor's sewer line. They asked how ours was working so far. We told them that the sewer itself was working great, but that the mound of dirt in the yard hadn't settled as much as we had hoped (They had left it slightly mounded to account for later settling). They offered to come by when they finished with the neighbor's job and smooth it out with their backhoe, which they did. They're great to work with, and we would definitely use them again.

I would never recommend them. They were supposed to clean out the line for $200 but it ended up costing me $1,100. I feel terrible because my neighbors saw their truck outside my house so they called them for work. The guy that came out to do work under my kitchen sink had a lot of trouble getting on to his knees; he shouldn’t have been doing the work. He should have taken the garbage disposal and he messed it up. The bill that I got wasn’t broken down so I called the office to find out why I was being charged so much. They sent me a bill that was broken down but it wasn’t anything like the service man said it would be so I think they were just covering their tracks.
