Description of Work: Spartan replaced most of the aging (and leaking in at least one spot) galvanized horizontal water pipes in the basement (under the first floor). They did a good job, we especially liked working with Don (I think his title is plumbing supervisor or something like that). They were really easy to work with and very responsive. They are our go to for any standard plumbing jobs or needs.

Description of Work: Can to view sewer line with camera, tell me where the clog was, what needed to be done. But, evidently the camera wasn't working. They charged me anyway. But, when I realized they didn't actually do the work they agreed to refund some of the money. I should not have charged me in the first place, and I should not have had to request the money back.

Fantastic! During the course of my 16 month marathon basement refinish, I hired around 7 different contractors for different jobs, and spoke with at least 20 others during consideration of who to hire. Of all of those contractors, Spartan Plumbing rates with 2 others as my highest experience. From the bidding process, they were clear, concise, and honest about where money could be saved and the effects. Tim Sheperd was the "foreman" of the job which spanned around 13 months. Once my underpinning contractor had the floor down to the level of the existing sewer line (which was clearly VERY old), Spartan came in like clockwork, and did everything they said they would in two days. When finished, they removed the old materials, and their work was spotless. They took care of all permits and inspections. After waiting nearly a year to come in and finish the rough-in the plumbing for the new bathroom, Tim was immediately responsive to my phone call. I told him where I was with the rest of the work, and he came in to take a look at what they would be dealing with to do their job. He was EXTREMELY flexible with scheduling his guys to come in based on other inspections that I had scheduled. He fit his guys into small windows of time so that I would not have to hold up other parts of the job while I wait for inspectors to approve his work. And - all inspections passed the first time.
Description of Work: I was doing a complete basement remodel, from dig-out to finishing. I hired Spartan Plumbing to remove & replace my old sewer line to the wall of the house, install my new sump pump, rough-in plumbing for my new full bath, and install a gas line for my new laundry room. During the span of the rest of the work (which took 16 months) I needed a small repair to my central AC unit, and also I needed my sewer line snaked to the street due to invading roots outside the house. For both jobs, I called on Spartan as well.

The company itself was great. I had questions that the scheduler couldn't answer so she took my name and number and had a plumbing supervisor call me. He called within 10 minutes and spent a good 15 minutes on the phone with me answering my questions and explaining what the techs would do. When I asked to schedule, they offered to come out that very afternoon with no addition "emergency" or "overtime" charges. The two plumbers, Marvin and William, were fantastic. They did a thorough job, kept me fully informed, cleaned up the mess that comes with clearing a drain, and overall did an amazing job. They let me test and test until I was certain the lines were clear and went back and re-cleared a drain that, while it was draining, wasn't draining fast enough for their liking. The cost was very fair for the work they did and the quality of that work. I will most certainly be mailing them both thank you cards.
Description of Work: Two different drain lines were severely clogged (kitchen+washer, and shower+sink). Both had 70+ years worth of debris (hair, grease, food, who knows what else) in them.Techs Marvin and William thoroughly cleaned out both lines with a motorized snake. At one point they pulled out a 34" long clump of hair from the bathroom drain.

They were able to come the same day within a couple hours. Since the two men didn't have booties for their shoes, they removed their shoes to protect my light colored carpet. They used extra care on my recently re-enamaled bathtub. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the mess after clearing the drain pipe. Since they weren't using their regular truck they didn't have white caulk to re-caulk the over flow cap again. They used my white caulk to do the job. Very nice and professional and I would recommend their company. The cost would have been $195 but Angie's List provided a $45 discount coupon.
Description of Work: Snaked the slow-draining drain in the bathtub. I had tried plunging the drain and two bottles of drano foam with no results.

The main drain from the house backed up right before Thanksgiving. I arranged for an estimate from another company, who would have removed the basement toilet and used a larger snake, but the price would have been approx. $1300. Not really an option for me if there was any other way. I called Spartan, and they sent two guys out the same morning. They offered the same option, but did seem to think it would take less than the $1300 at their hourly rate. But the house is 50+ years old, and they worried about breaking the flange on the toilet if it were brittle. Similarly, they worried about going in through the access pipe -- it is cast iron and old. They pondered, and decided they were interested in going in through the pipe opening in the roof. They did it right then despite the fact that it was raining on them. The snake job worked, and was totally "non-invasive surgery." The charge was about $300, so I was very happy. I know it may need to be done again next year (this happened about a year ago too), and that there may be a bigger problem. But for now (bad economy and holiday coming up), it was just what I needed.
Description of Work: Two guys came to fix a clogged main drain. They snaked it from the roof, and the process worked well. They pulled out some roots.

My wife called the company based on an advertising magnet that was delivered some time ago. She was given an estimate of $110 for parts plus labor. An appointment was made for 7:30 a.m. the next day. The plumbers arrived an hour late without any contact or explanation. The experience improved with the work; the two gentlemen politely introduced themselves and after looking at the work site, they gathered their materials and went to work. They were very thorough in their work. They explained what they were doing and worked without delay. My favorable impression was undone by the bill. Their initial bill was not itemized, just a total. Only when I asked was the bill broken out into parts and labor, but even then the cost of the parts was not itemized.

The company was contacted the day before to set-up an appointment to replace a leaky kitchen faucet that I thought was causing water to leak onto my kitchen floor. When the plumber arrived, he was directed to the kitchen. He inspected the faucet and discovered that the leaky faucet was not the only problem. He found that water was seeping underneath the fixuture and had caused a litte rot. He also found that part of the drain pipe below the sink had been installed improperly and had corroded (all the way through), which was the root cause of my wet floor problem. He replaced the faucet and the pipe and advised me to start saving now to have the entire kitchen drain replaced somewhere down the road. When he finished the work he swept the floor, cleaned his mess and emptied the trash. Excellent job!!

They were our second estimate. We saw them working on the house across our street. We had a problem in the winter with our furnace that could have been really dangerous. They came within a day or two to replace the furnace. The other company would haven taken a couple of weeks. They were great. They cleaned up after themselves. They were on budget and on time. I would use them again and refer them to anyone.

Although I was impressed with the promptness of the company, because of the high cost, I opted to wait for a family member to look at the leak. My family member found that the leak was caused because a plug had popped out of the pipe at a juncture. He repaired the leak by reinserting, strengthening and securing the plug. The cost was $100.00.
Description of Work: There was a serious leak in one of the pipes in the crawlspace under my house which was pouring water. I made an emergency call to Spartan at 7 pm. The Spartan repair man arrived within one hour of the call and inspected the leak. He informed me that because the call was an emergency and the leak appeared serious the repair would be approximately $500.00 to $800.00. He stated that if I scheduled the repair for a future date, the amount most likely would be $200 cheaper. I declined this company's services and paid their fee for coming out which was $89.00.

They arrived on time and wanted to begin work immediately. I asked for a price quote and they just said they charge $89 for the first half hour and $60 for every half hour after that. They didn't know how long the work would take. They got started and finished about 2 hours later. They guy handed me an invoice for $570, which was more than I was expecting. But like an idiot, I just wrote him a check. After he left I looked at the bill more closely and discovered that nothing was itemized, so I had no way of telling how they arrived at the total. By my calculations, the total should have been around $270 for 2 hours of work. I called the office and they tried to quote me different labor rates. I kept insisting that they overcharged me and eventually they agreed to send me a refund of $200, although that means they still overcharged me by $100.00.

I have had 3 different companies out to resolve a sewer leak smell. I specifically requested a Spartan plumber skilled in sewer gas detection. The plumber was to be there first thing, I called to find out where he was and the dispatcher said he must have stopped for breakfast. When he finally arrived, he asked a few questions, didn't seem all that interested, but after I asked if he could do some of the tests I read about on line, he said he could try the peppermint test. They checked one drain, but nothing happened. The Spartan plumber said he wanted to call someone for help. He went to the truck and then sent in the helper with my bill. I called the office to complain that their efforts were insufficient. The supervisor agreed they should have checked the roof vents like I asked. He agreed the would come back on Friday. That visit was canceled due to rain. Today I was told they can't go on a 3rd story roof (my house is 2 stories and I have a roof deck with easy access).
Description of Work: Plumber came, asked minimal questions, said these issues were hard to find, tried one thing and left.

The company arrived on time and performed the basic service. However, there was no insight provided as to the nature of the problem. The inspection stopped when the plumber felt that further inspection would yield no more information. I was left with a bill and description that said "found separation of pipe at 60 feet." I was then advised that replacement of the sewer line was best coarse of action. Upon getting a second opinion and a rescope of the line it was determined that the running trap at my property line needed cleaning which ultimately solved the problem. No separation found. Following Spartan's advice would have cost me upwards of $10,000.00. Problem was solved by Seidel Plumbing for less than 10% of the cost.

Technicians seemed to be novices. This was the second company that was unable to help me with my furnace. The supervisor just abandoned the job without coming to look at the furnace for himself and he gave no referrals.
Description of Work: The company diagnosed an exhaust problem on our furnace. The first technician came out and removed the block in the exhaust. It broke again about 5 hours after he left. He stated on the invoice that this was a supervisor job in the future. I called the next day to set up another appointment and another technician, not the supervisor was sent. He was unable to fix anything and stated that he would have his supervisor come out and look at the furnace. Two days later the supervisor called and stated that he wouldn't be able to help us and referred us to our installer. The only good thing was that we were not charged for any work. Both technicians throughout their work were on the phone with their supervisor asking many questions...seemed like novices.
