Description of Work: The worker was punctual, BUT he did not know what he was doing. He left the home 8 hours after arriving, and we still had no water. Because of the water leak, the water was turned off in the home, and we had no water for the rest of the day. The next day, the manager and another worker from Spartan were at our home at 7:45 a.m. and within 2 1/2 hours, the work was completed, the debris removed, and the water back on. Because of the way this incident was handled, and the profesionalism of the manager and the worker, I will use them again. We have used Spartan in the past. I do not fault the company because of a unprofessional worker.

Description of Work: I have seen Spartan trucks all over my neighborhood, so I thought I would give them a try. The two plumbers who came out to the house did a nice job and were very pleasant. However, scheduling the appointment was a disaster. I found the staff that answers the phones and books the appointments frustrating to deal with - hence the low marks in professionalism & responsiveness. The first appointment I booked no one showed up! Not only had I taken off of work, to make matters worse, I had been calling periodically throughout the day to check the queue and where we were in it. I was told repeatedly that the plumbers would finish every job before they left for the day. It turned out not be accurate information because no one ever showed! I called the next day and explained what happened. The person I spoke with on Day 2, after explaining what happened the day before, said absolutely nothing in response. She did book a 2nd appointment, but acted as though this was the first time I was calling. That being said, the plumbers were very nice & did good work (which is why I gave high marks for quality) but getting them to the house was difficult & frustrating.

Description of Work: Back up in sewer line. They snaked the line and put a camera down; thought they found an obstruction about 20 feet in. Dug up basement apartment floor. Found there was no grade to the original (1886) pipe, so waste couldn't flow out quickly but no real obstruction; waste just seeped slowly. They used a jet-pressured hose to clear out sludge from pipe. The crew and supervisor were professional and competent. Time will tell how long the pipe will be open enough to avoid backups.

Description of Work: Water was running in toilet. The bulb had to be replaced. In the process the toilet handle was broken by the serviceman. He tried to repair it and finally replaced it. But flushing the toilet using the handle was not the way it was before. The handle was loose. When I told the serviceman that there was something wrong with the placement of the handle he protested. I took him to another toilet to show him how tight the toilet handle should be. He said that the newer handles were like that. I took his answer to suggest that I was ignorant. I was not satisfied even when I tried to adjust to the service man's answer. When I called the company to voice my displeasure with his work I was told that I had passed the date to respond to a repair problem and that I would have to pay to have someone come out again. I filed a complaint with Consumers Report. And I requested from the company arranging for service CHW. That Spartan not be referred as a company to perform any services in my home. Not only was the toilet handle broken but it was the replaced properly and the serviceman tried to show me as being ignorant of what I knew to be a problem. Other servicemen from other companies have said that the handle wasn't installed correctly. However they were doing other things which prevented them from attending to this problem.

Description of Work: I've had widely variable experiences with Spartan. Some of the techs are experienced and good, others are young and unsure. The latest is a case in point: I had called Spartan after I was quoted a repair cost for a busted spring and coupling in my furnace by another service. When the guy got here (he must've been all of 20) he said, "I'd recommend you replace the whole boiler." Well yeah, I'd like to do that if I had $6K lying around, but as that is not the case, I asked what it would cost to fix. He said their policy is they wouldn't even attempt to fix a furnace as old as mine. Called the original supplier and got the furnace fixed. For plumbing, also hit and miss. Some are great, some not so great. Really depends on who you get.
