I took off work today for an appointment at 8am with a tech, nobody showed up and after being in hold a half hour, they said, oh your appointment is for tomorrow and I said No, I'm quite certain it was for today. This is the second time they've done this. When I called yo say my security cameras are not working, the guy asked me if I had troubleshooted it. I'm like, I don't work for ADT, how would I know how to fix my cameras? Duh. Finally, I said I'm going to quit ADT and get something else. And I hung up.

Salesman used high pressure sales tactics and outright lies to pressure me to sign a 3 year contract. I was told there was a 60 cancellation policy, which seemed like enough leeway to get him out of my house. Come time to cancel at day 28, I am told there is a 3 day cancellation policy, which is what is "in the contract."

We were in this house like 32 years and early on we purchased an ADT system and then it went out and then I went to ADT and said, okay fix it, we pay a monthly fee so if there's a problem you're going to repair it. They said, it's too old a system, it can't be repaired, buy a new one. And my response is, I may try a lawyer and that isn't going to happen. So after beating them on the head for a while they fixed the problem with a new panel, so ADT is tricky. I like ADT, it's just I didn't like that because it wasn't keeping their word which was in a written contract that they could read. I was dealing with some low level person who kept acting the way she was acting.

The installer was nice and answered all my questions he was the only good part of my ADT contract. Two hours after the installer left one of the sensors fell off the door frame. I called and, after a 20 minute hold, I was told to buy some double face tape and stick the senor to the door frame. A week later I got a number of calls saying my alarm went off. I had not even set the alarm or armed the system. After another long hold time on the phone they told me there was a problem with a cell tower that was causing the false alarm so they would turn of the system until that was fixed. Several days later the alarm went off and I could not silence it. I called and was told to open the alarm box and pull out one of the wires. They told me a tech. would call me and set up an appointment to repair the alarm within 24 hrs. They never called. I will call them tomorrow and try to get someone to fix the system.

The customer indicated that he had to call the dealer 2x to get an appointment scheduled. He also indicated that the service was completed on 4/16/15 to his satisfaction. I have been an ADT customer for at least 15 years. I had a maintanance contract that I have paid for as well as my monthly fee. Recently a glass break sensor battery went out and I called for a replacement. I was told this was no longer covered under my plan. Changing the battery isn't something you can do without ADT assistance. Why should I do this myself? I am not interested, so I will be using another alarm company. Goodbye ADT.

It has been a nightmare. They have been here seven times. I have experienced poor customer service and the equiptment has not been working. The installation manager was very rude and flat out lied to me aobut my appointment times. They did not show up for some appointments. Today was the last straw, I am going to have them remove the system from my home and I am going to use another service provider.
Description of Work: I have used the for my home monitoring system and had recently had them install the post system. This complaint is about for the installation team of the post system.

They had a salesman come to the home and he wasn't really a technician. They sell you on services not knowing what they can or can't provide given the layout of the home. It took them 3 weeks to have the salesperson come out. Then it was another 3 or 4 weeks for the technicians to come out and say they couldn't do what the salesperson had sold me. Then it took another 4 or 5 weeks to get the actual refund for the services. It was not an all around stellar experience. I think I could have sued them for breach of contract. They were definitely more expensive than other options that I looked at online. They did return calls. Everybody was very professional and polite. They just didn't know how to do their jobs. It was a really bad experience.

Was told that when I moved, I should continue my contract by having a new system installed at new residence to avoid cancellation fees, which I did. 2.5 years later (a few months short of the 3 year contract), I moved in with my fiance and needed to discontinue service). It is impossible to get any assistance from management or customer service on the phone. One sales rep told me I could not speak to customer service, and that no managers were available. He transferred me to billing, who also tried to get me to renew their contract at a and quot;discountand quot; in my new house. When I asked this person to transfer me to a manager, she simply put me on hold (I hung up after 10 minutes of being on hold). I will be writing a big fat complaint to head of company and to head of customer service!
Description of Work: Charged large cancellation fee. Misrepresented contract verbally. Sales rep did not explain that I could get discount for being a USAA member (USAA members can get a 24 month contract, versus 36 month contract). When I asked to speak with someone in customer service, I was told there was no one to speak to (but I could speak with sales reps). I was also told on the phone that there was no manager to speak to.

Our house had been burglarized so we decided to get an alarm system. Since ADT is probably one of the most well known companies in the alarm business, we called them to get an estimate. The young man who showed up gave us several prices for various configuations of the alarm system. The quote he gave us for the monitoring service seemed to be high ($45 - $47 per month), so we decided to check other vendors. We found another vendor who would sell us the equipment and install it, for a more reasonable price (which also included the most coverage too) and provided the monitoring service for almost $300 less per year.

The salesman which is Andrew did an excellent job. He follow-up with me and he was very thorough. The guy that came out was also very thorough and informed. They were punctual and friendly. I would use them again. In terms of monthly monitoring, I have not have any difficulty with customer service. They've done their job effectively.

Despite some reviews that indicate problems in various categories with some ADT locations, I had a great experience with the office in Lanham. I moved back into a house after renting it out for more than 10 years. A previous tenant installed an ADT system, but it was not working when I began the moving process. In addition to calling them I used Angies List to identify 3 other security companies, all highly rated, to provide estimates for comprehensive security coverage. True to their Angies List ratings, the other companies were all very prompt, courteous and professional. The problem was that they were also very expensive, even though they proposed to use much of the same equipment that was already installed - pretty much an apples to apples comparison. ADT was the clear winner on installation price. I'm sure the other companies would provide a great service, but the price was at least 30% less through ADT. They went out of their way to meet all of my security requirements and were open to negotiate on items that were in addition to items originally requested. In short, they were very aggressive on pricing. Installation went very smoothly with no surprises. Perhaps the only item I would caution about is the contract. First, its a 2 year contract that you can't get out of once the trial period is over. It's also 6 pages of very fine print. Take a minute to review it so there are no surprises a few months down the road. I found one, but it was easily addressed with a phone call. Most negative comments about ADT seem to revolve around non-monitoring issues. I found no problems with the sales or installation process and was pleasantly surprised with their pricing. Based on a false alarm that was clearly user error the monitoring service appears to work very well.

I’ve been with them for about two years. They’re excellent. If the alarm goes off, they call me right away. If I don’t respond, the police come in less than five minutes. I wouldn’t give their hardware an A. I have a wireless system and since they installed it was nothing but problems. They kept coming out to repair it and I don’t think the repair ever got fixed during the whole entire thing in one job. There’s a bit of an issue with the hardware and the repairs. As far as the service goes, I like it. And I don’t have a problem with security part. But as far as the hardware and the technicians, they’re not that great.
Description of Work: I use ADT for my alarm system. I pay the whole deal in one shot, yearly.

After speaking with several other companies decided to just upgrade our current system. We upgraded our system to use cellular notifications rather than use a land line as we had gotten rid of our land line. We had thought about switching systems but it didn't make sense to switch as we would have had to buy all new sensors. ADT is not great but not terrible. They are adequate.

If anything unusual occurs, I hear from them right away. They make a quick contact and/or if it involves calling the police they usually respond promptly. Their price seems to be reasonable, I have never compared with other companies. They charge me quarterly. For all the years that I have had them, their quality of service has been good. For example a few years ago I upgraded and that went well too, a person came out and made the changes.

My experience with ADT went very well as they were prompt and did the work just fine. Their billing was a bit confusing but other than that they were fine. Also, whenever there is an alarm issue they are prompt to call and check on the situation.

We rent and the land lord pays for the service. We use the service but do not pay for it. They provide monitoring. If the alarm goes off they will call you. This is nice. When the alarm goes off the company is notified and then the police. They call pretty quickly.

One thing I do not like particularly is that they bill your credit card. I have been thinking of looking for another monitoring service. I was not happy with the installation, I had to call them back and rework a couple of things because they had literally strung some wires across the ceiling in our room downstairs. One of the sensors was not installed correctly and periodically set up false alarms and we had the police come twice because of that. They are usually trying to upsell many things. I came across a price-increase in the monitoring service which I feel was totally uncalled for.
Description of Work: I used ADT for motion detectors, burglar alarms as well as smoke and fire detection services.

It's a national company. We have an alarm system and they monitor that. I would say that they are very good except the price. I told them about some of the other companies coming in the market which have a much better price then them and they reduced it considerably. I pay $ 430 for the annual contract. They are a pretty good alarm system. We have had them for a couple of years since they took over the other company. They were excellent. I was dismayed about the cost and they reduced it. I would use them again in the future.

They are horrible and I went eight weeks without monitoring. Their system made our phone system go out. Then it took 10 days to get a technician to fix it, but then the technician that came out did not have the part. He said that he would call and put the part in the next day and he never called. I had to call several times and they never responded. I even called the service manager and he never called me back. They decided that they were going to put in a wireless system but there was a part broke and they had to get another system. Then I called several times to get them to install the new system. I have had them for 11 years but I have had the worst service ever.

We had an existing system in the house we bought in 2008. All security companies will use your existing system, so there is no need to be impressed when they say they can work with what you already have. They make their money off adding a few things here and there and raising your rates whenever they can. The Lanham office was horrible to deal with from the beginning. The salesman smelled like an ashtray and prescribed equipment for us that we could not use like motion detectors (we have cats). We didn't discover this until the technician came over. When the technician arrived, he said he had to re-configure everything and our salesman did not know what he was doing. We tried to call the salesman, but he did not respond. We called the Lanham office and spoke to the manager. She said she would address the situation and get back to us. She never did get back to us - several messages were left, but to no avail. Since installing the system, ADT has never had an accurate zone listing for us, although we went over it several times after MULTIPLE FALSE ALARMS. They also could never get our contact listing correct and every time I called and gave them the phone number at our residence, they had us listed as my mother who lives 5 miles down the road. We recently had some criminal activity in our neighborhood and wanted to look into assessing the current system and possibly upgrading the services. I have called ADT several times and they take my information, but have not returned my phone calls to set up an appt. Our neighbor's house was broken into the other day and needed ADT to come over, but could not get an appt. for 3 weeks! This is unacceptable when it comes to the safety and well-being of your family. We are going to try another company. Ackerman is the one we are going to work with next since we saw another neighbor went with them. I hope they are better...

I bought a house, and it had a system in it. They were willing to work with the existing system and do some upgrade. They spared me the expense of starting from scratch. I would use them again in the future if necessary.
