Mr. Handyman of South Montgomery County

It took a couple of visits to finally get the work done, because during previous visits by a service person the area wasn't dried out completely. The company was very prompt in responding to calls and was very responsible in checking with me when the service person I requests became unavailable and get my okay for a new service person. Paul came out and did an excellent job. He explained what he was going to do and give an estimate of when the job would be completed. Although the job took longer than anticipated, Paul did a good job and we have no complaints.

The job was done with professionalism and with quality work; guaranteed work or they would come back, though I doubt that I would need them to correct the job that done. This company is time and material, and he went to Home Depot to purchase some 2x4 to brace the ceiling. I am keeping this company on the refrigerator door for other house hold needs.

First, they charge for an estimate, which makes you feel you have to use them to get that charge applied to the work. After they came to the house, they said I'd have the estimate on Monday. I followed up on Wednesday and didn't get the estimate till the next Monday (so a week after it was promised.). I had them come out. Their subcontractor cut a hole in the drywall, found water damage and carpenter ants, advised me and then said the ant problem and probable leak needed to be addressed. I asked for an updated estimate for that work, and again I had to chase them down to get the revised estimate. But when they want the work, they were calling me every other day it seemed. I decided to go with another contractor for the repairs.

The handyman arrived right on time and ready to work. He was competent and communicated well. The work required removing ten pairs of old wooden shutters and replacing them with new vinyl ones. The house is brick, and it turned out that directly mounting the shutters to the brick was not practical because drilling the holes would take too long. Instead, he mounted wooden supports to the brick, drilling into the mortar between the bricks, and then mounted the shutters to the wood. The work took the whole day, and he worked hard, taking only one break even though the weather was extremely hot. The work was done neatly, and he painted all the screw heads and bare wood after he finished. We are pleased with the result and would certainly consider using this company again.

They called promptly and scheduled a visit for the next afternoon. Paul was running late but did appear. It was late enough that he asked if he could pick up the glass on his way home and return the next day, which was fine with me. He had a cancellation the next morning, called to see if he could come earlier than expected, and did the work. He was quite careful not to damage the wood on the door, and seems to have done a good job on the shower. He was very pleasant and explained the process quite well. We have some other work to be done and would be happy to have him back.

They did a good job. He was punctual and professional. Paul is the man who came and he was very helpful, I have very high ceilings and he was kind enough to help me put up some bulbs.

I had a list of things that I thought they could complete in two hours and he only completed one task in two hours. He went around telling me how I could get somebody else to do it or how they don't do that. He showed me what to check if a fuse goes out in the future. I got $25 dollars off because of an Angie's List special.

He was on time, he was a competent carpenter, and he was diligent about his work. He started when he got here and he didn?t take any breaks or anything.

I had a negative experience with them and chose not to hire them. In there ad they should state that they do not provide free estimates.

We wanted a handyman on short notice, as we had just mved into our house and wanted some things we noticed to be fixed right away. Mr. Handyman was the only service that could supply a handyman that quickly. Max was our guy and he was great. We have a screened in porch where the screens were really terrible, and the washer/dryer hookup was screwed up so that needed to be done. Max was really good, worked really hard, and did a great job. I will agree with other reviewers that these guys are really expensive, but even with that we will use them again. We will try to be efficient in our requests, and make sure that we have all the materials needed.

Mr. Handyman arrived a little after 8am to begin the work-- I had a laundry list of jobs that needed completion. We went through the house, and I showed him what I would like to be done. Since I was having another remodeling project scheduled to start the next day, I eliminated items from my list that were deemed to be lengthy projects. Mr. Handyman seemed very confident he would get through this list, and even offered additional suggestions for work. I also ran out to Home Depot to get supplies so Mr. Handyman could get to work right away. After I ran out to Home Depot (took about an hour), I saw that Mr. Handyman had installed 2 light fixtures-- I was impressed with his progress at this point. However, things quickly went downhill. It took about an hour an a half to replace a bathroom door, and he spent the next several hours replacing fixtures in the bathroom (including installing towel racks and toilet paper holders). After replacing a light fixture at 4:10, he declared he was done for the day, with several tasks remaining on my list. I later learned that Mr. Handyman will work after 4pm- but I guess I got Mr. Handyman on an off-day. Throughout the work areas, nails and old toiler paper holders/towel bars were left on the floor. I was very upset, and before posting a review I wanted to give the company an opportunity to resolve the situation. I explained my experience to Robin (sp?), the receptionist at Mr. Handyman, who was very patient and sympathetic. However, the next day I was offered a measly $50 off my next job. While I'm not an expert in home repair, I feel that the tasks should have only taken about 4 hours. I feel as though I paid for 8 hours worth of work when only 4 hours worth of work was completed. I'm sorely disappointed, and also disappointed when the management did little to resolve the situation.

Every time I needed something done, Mr. Handyman (Alejandro) knew how to do it. He stuck with it until all jobs were completed. He purchased needed equipment and worked professionally so that I did not feel the need to be present when he was working. (We had a lock box for entry.)

They did a good job but they were a little expensive. They did stick to their estimate though, so I wasn't suprised at the final cost.

He worked efficiently, the work product was very good and he was very pleasant. Everything went smoothly.

I submitted a request online and Kelli promptly tried to call me the next morning. When she didn't reach me, she sent me an email and we were able to schedule the appointment during the first phone call. She let me know that I was the second appointment for the day and called me 30 minutes before Chris's arrival. He was very polite and the work was done well. I initially only had one bathroom to caulk, but asked if he had time to do the other bathroom. He was very accommodating and professional. I would definitely use their services again.

I was quite pleased with the service received from start to finish. The service was on-time, complete and with no hidden charges or fees. Emilio obviously knew what he was doing, took the time to do it right (without dragging his feet), and cleaned up nicely when the job was done. He didn't even seem to mind the barking of our very protective Pug (who was quite concerned at first that someone unknown was in his house)! I will definitely be calling this company again.

He did an excellent job on everything. He is very useful. He does beautiful work. He is always on time. I like that he is polite. He cleans up everything. The work turned out very good. I am very pleased.

I was very pleased. The handyman showed up timely. I'd requested an afternoon appointment, giving rather specific descriptions of what I needed accomplished. I also volunteered that I would be flexible with the afternoon appointment time, but no problem. The call that our handyman was on the way came shortly after noon and he arrived right after that. He listened carefully while I was very specific about what I needed. Told him that sturdiness and appropriate placement was more important that aesthetics and that we wanted to do this as inexpensively as possible. He went off to buy supplies, then consulted me several times when he had questions about exact placement as he installed the railings. I asked him for something very specific and very custom in terms of work and I feel that he saw what I needed and executed it. Is it possible that nearly $100 per hour could be beat in terms of handyman prices? Yes, but I wanted to pay what it took to get someone with good references here and someone who respected my schedule and did the work well. I feel I got all that. I would definitely hire them again. Our rep volunteered to do his work on the cold, wet screen porch while cutting pieces of wood and politely refused my offer for a cup of hot tea.

I really liked the guy that came out to do the work. Some of the drywall work would have been a bit better by someone who specialized in this area. The client pays for almost all of the materials. They have their own tools and drop cloths, but they will put in a van charge to cover stuff they may use. Always ask for all of the charges up front so there will be no surprises. There is a 2 hour minimum flat rate charge, so call them if you need them for more than 2 hours and you will get your money's worth.

Mr. Handyman was an excellent company to work with on these small projects. They were easy going when I called to reschedule three times (giving them at least 2 days notice), and the gentleman that came to do the work did very well (Henry). He ended up staying longer than he originally thought by several hours.

Sent the company an email with our contact information. They never contacted us. When I called a week later, I went directly to answering machine (during service hours) and left a message. They never called us back. Overall, an F for not being responsive.

The work was first scheduled to be done a couple of days earlier than it actually was. However, the contractor called on the original date (little bit after the appointment time) and asked that the appointment be rescheduled. On the new date, the employee of the contractor showed up on time. He was very courteous and knew his job well. As I had bought the shelves and required hardware, everything went relatively quickly.

Called, made an appointment for 8 A.M. Henry showed up just after 8 A.M. and began work. The repair took about an hour. As there was a 2 hour minimum I asked him to do a couple other small jobs which he had no problem doing. Overall, a very simple process. You just need to make sure that you have enough work for the 2 hour minimum.

Overall, it went well, though we had to have him come back to fix a door handle they installed backward. He also had to redo something he fixed on the dining room table. Generally, the workman was skilled, pleasant and very professional. Our biggest complaint would be that they charge an amount up front but then it's by the hour and we didn't get a good estimate up front that the hours would mount up as much. They won't come give you an estimate. When we called about the problems with the door handle, they did come back soon and fix it for free.
