Mr. Hanydman was very responsive to my calls -- very quickly found time to schedule and appointment at my convenience :-) Alex, from Mr. Handyman, took on the job. He listened to all my needs (and there were many!), he was very professional. I asked him for his views and he had excellent ideas to deal with the issues in my house. I had two rails put in, new closet doors in both the kids room, drywall fixed and walls painted, really rotted windowsill replaced.. he did all this in just over two days, and did them super perfect! the closet doors were a nightmare to deal with, but Alex never gave up. he tried this, and that, and thought of many ways to handle the issues -- and in the end he came up with the perfect plan -- and they look beautiful! Really liked working with Alex and would highly recommend him and Mr. Handyman! THANK YOU!

Very well. I paid for part, and my clients paid for part, but it did not come to more than had been budgeted for or expected. They were able to schedule the work quickly. I found the staff at Mr. Handyman of S Montgomery County to be professional and courteous and good to work with, and my clients were happy with the work and found the cost to be fair.

Joe came and gave me a fair assessment of my issues and gave me some good recommendations on how to proceed. I don't have GE required funds at the moment so I may just have to roll up my sleeves!
Mr. Handyman's technician completed all these tasks quickly and professionally. he arrived on time (and insisted on wearing booties even though they were not necessary). I would not hesitate to call them again.
Description of Work: Sliding closet door had come off track and no amount of coaxing by me could get it back on; on removing bulbs from a ceiling fan light fixture, the glass came out but the metal portions remained; the front door did not latch properly; and a rocking chair lacked a nut to keep the screw in place.

My house's vinyl siding had unsnapped followed a wind storm. The damaged areas were about 20 feet from the ground. Sean from Mr. Handyman courageously reconnected the siding while working from the biggest extension ladder that I had ever seen. Also had a security light mounted in the eaves under the roofline (again, about 20 feet from the ground) that was not working. Both light bulbs were burnt out, and Sean replaced them with new ones that I had separately purchased. At first, the lights still refused to work. Sean patiently did some troubleshooting, and discovered that one bulb was not properly seated in its socket (these are halogen bulbs that snap into place as opposed to ordinary light bulbs that screw in). The other "new" bulb was defective; lights worked once he replaced it. I appreciate Sean's persistence, which avoided the need to buy a new security light. Very courteous, patient, and able to clearly explain what he was doing (and why). Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Reconnected vinyl siding and replaced bulbs in security light.
James and Todd did an excellent job of installing the challenging EZ Armor Door Kits on my entry doors. The front Therma-Tru door (with the sidelights) turned out to be particularly challenging because it was warped, but they were able to successfully complete the installation. All of the doors open and close at least as well as they did prior to the installation of the doorframe reinforcement kits, and the front door is noticeably better. The deadbolt/handset installations were done without any problems.
Description of Work: Installed an Armor Concepts EZ Armor Sidelights Kit and 3 EZ Armor Combo Set Door Kits on four entry doors to reinforce door frames/ increase security; replaced contractor grade deadbolts and handsets on these doors with high security Mul-T-Lock Hercular 264 Deadbolts (3 Double Cylinder, 1 Single Cylinder) and common-keyed handsets. Also installed a CAL Double Bolt Lock on sliding glass door

Two very pleasant and professional ladies arrived at the agreed-upon time. They worked hard and did a nice job.
Description of Work: They deep-cleaned one story of my house.
I called Mr. Handyman to get some work done that neither my husband nor I could do or have time to do. My hesitation was that most handyman places want you to provide the material for them. Since I have no idea what to buy or what is needed, I did not want to run around getting material and having to return or exchange them. When I called Mr. Handyman, I asked about the material problem and she told me that she would have someone that is more knowledgeable to call me back. Nicole from Mr. Handyman called me later that day. She said that their handyman can purchase the material and not to worry. I gave her a list of priorities and secondary things I wanted to have done. The priorities (the removal of the old cement and mortar where my porch has separated from the front of the house and around the brick step by the garage and put in new mixture and fillers, re-cement the missing brick on the brick step by the garage, remove the caulking and weather stripping around the front windows and front door and re-caulk, and fix the latch on the gate where someone had forcibly tried to open the gate with the latch still in the locked position. The secondary was the sanding and repainting of the horizontal railing on our front porch and replacing the rusted chain on the front porch swing. Nicole told me that they can have someone come by to do the job on Friday which was convenient since I was going to be off that day. I asked Nicole about the special deal on Angie's List (4 hours for $358) and she said that I can purchase the deal after the job is done. The deal would save me $88 and as long as the work is at least 4 hours, I can use it. Unfortunately, I cannot purchase 2 of the deals if the job requires 8 hours, but they do have 15 minutes rate and hourly rate. If we want the handyman to purchase the material, the time would be calculated into the job. Luckily the hardware store was only 10 minutes from my house. Todd came Friday on time and we walked around the house to show Todd what work we needed done. He said it would be an all day job (6.75 hrs). He was able to do all of the priority chores but was not able to do the secondary jobs. It took him a long time to do the job on the cement and mortar and I am glad he was able to do it because it was very laborious. Removing all the concrete and cement was hard since you have to be on your knees and bending down. He was able to go to the hardware store to get the material he needed and was back in about 30 minutes. At the end of the day, I was able to buy the Angie's List special for 4 hours and paid the rest including the material he bought that day. Todd said he would come back Tuesday to finish the secondary job which should only take 2-3 hours. As promised Todd did come back on Tuesday even though we were not home to finish the job. When I came home from work the horizontal railing had been sanded and painted and he had put a much thicker and sturdier chain on the swing as well as painted the bottom of the garage that my husband had requested. It took another 3 hours to finish my list. Since we were not home, he left the invoice in the door and I called Nicole the next day to pay by credit card over the phone for the 3 hours and material he bought Tuesday. Everything went smoothly. Todd did an excellent job. Everything looked beautiful and professionally done. He was courteous, polite and professional. He also cleaned up after each day and took all the trash with him. I would definitely recommend this Mr. Handyman and would ask for Todd again. I am very happy with the job and the responsiveness from their office was excellent.
Description of Work: Some honey to do list: remove old cement and mortars around the front of the house and brick steps in spaces where the concrete porch has separated from the house and fill in with new fillers and mortar mix; remove old caulking and weather stripping from front windows and front door frame, re-cement brick that came loose from the brick step; repair gate latch on fence; sand and repaint horizontal railing on porch; paint bottom of garage door and put new chains on porch swing.

I was pleased with the entire process. Repairing the rotted Corbels was more complicated than the typical handyman job, so James came to the house to assess the work. He provided an estimate supported by a detailed statement of work. His estimate was less than the competition, and James proposed solutions to some rot problems so they would not recur, such as fabricating the stainless steel caps for the Corbels. James returned, along with Todd to do the work, arriving early and working through the day to complete it. James had located aged pressure treated lumber for both the Corbels and the storage area, so they were able to prime it in preparation for exterior painting by another contractor. They were easy to work with, the workmanship was excellent, and the price was good.
Description of Work: They removed the top portions of two Corbel beams which provided roof support and had rotted. They replaced them with pressure treated lumber, and bolted them to the lower portions of the beams with stainless steel bolts. They fabricated and installed custom stainless steel caps to cover the tops of all three Corbels to prevent rot in the future. They also removed the existing lumber and hardware from a platform storage area and replaced it with pressure treated lumber and new hardware. They primed all the new lumber. They also did some minor repairs, replacing a cracked door jam and patching some minor wood rot.
I can not praise the service, by the company in general and Sean Shepard in particular, enough. So helpful, so courteous and did a bit extra that we never asked him to do. They were also very upfront about all that needed help with and quite ready to accommodate my requirements. I would happily recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Fixed a door, a hand rail, tile grout and sealing.

Absolutely terrible and wasted $400+. Based on reviews seemed like a good choice. Reality was far from what we expected. 1. Porch door: it was cut incorrectly onsite and they left a huge gap on the bottom - totally ruining the door. They forgot to factor in the pitch of the porch. 2. The handle mechanism was not aligned properly and the bolt and handle did not work. I was told it was a cheap device and had to deal with it. My 10 yr old even noticed that the plates were not aligned on either side of the door. 3. They screwed in the compression arm but installed at the top - did not ask where we wanted it. 4. Installed the fence door handle - but put it on the wrong side. Now I have a hole on the other gate and as a bonus they threw out all the hardware without my knowledge 5. The installed 6 shutters but then had to run to the hardware store for masonry drill bits. I was then charged $42 for 2 drill bits and trash bags for cleanup. I was not provided or shown the used bits. 6. Wall mount TV almost fell off when the left. I went through the instructions myself and noticed that several washers and a key bolt was not installed to the swing arm. Follow Up: I complained immediately with an email and pics. Received a response immediately to fix the problem and 3 weeks later they showed up with a new door after much prompting and emailing. Yesterday, the technician spent 2 hours getting the right cut but then another 2 hours on the handle. He then said the previous tech stripped the threads and wanted to replace it. When I got back - my chrome brush handle was now a brass handle - this is not a replacement and he was still struggling with the mechanism. After 4.5 hours he left around 12:45 and this afternoon the mechanism is spinning freely and we cannot open the door. We have to open it from the outside! The skills of this company do not live up to the reviews or the professional logos on the van. After the botched job I've paid $400 for a job I could have done myself and will now have to buy another door handle because they took the old one away. The site was also not cleaned as expected from professionals. This experience has been a waste of my time and very frustrating.

They gave me an estimate on how long the job would take and they couldn't give me a good fix on how long the job would actually take. So it wasn't an exact estimate. It was a telephone conversation. I would have preferred them to come out and see the job and provide me with a more exact estimate. I was a little disappointed that they were not willing to do that.
Description of Work: I got a quote from them to put up a partition wall.
I recently took over the role of Dir. of Operations at my religious facility and needed to find someone to help with general building repairs. Mr. Handyman is right in our neighborhood so I called to see how they could help. They have come over 3 times now and handled quite a few jobs for me. Since I have an ongoing list of tasks, they only charged me the initial project start-up fee the first time and have come back at their regular hourly rate the next two times - which I really appreciate since they are not the cheapest company around. However, so far I have been pleased with their work and plan to continue using them. We have had a few problems - the first gentleman who came did a good job with two carpentry tasks but wasn't so great with painting and drywall. He had to return to clean off chairs that got spray painted because he didn't cover them when he sprayed a ceiling repair (no charge to us) and when another person come to finish his drywall repair, the 2nd guy said it wasn't started correctly so he fixed it. With that one, we are supposed to get a credit toward our bill. I have not received the new invoice yet, but was satisfied with their solution. And the 2nd guy who came did a great job with a task I was worried about - fixing a sign post in the parking lot that had rusted through and needed a new post. I called and spoke to Dave before having it done and he assured me they had someone who could do it properly. So I bought the post and they got it into the small hole in the parking lot with no issues as far as I can see. And it all seems to be holding very well. The man who did it is Alejandro and I will definitely be requesting him again.

They are always responsive and generally can schedule you in quickly. It';s sometime tricky because they don't come by to do an estimate. You have to describe to the best of your ability what you need done and hope that the repairman who comes by has all the necesssary parts etc to do the job. But in general, these are easy and good guys to work with and I suspect though pricier, more reliable than a random, unknown contractor

I thought they were going to send two men over but only had the two men work for a little while before they sent the other one away. Because of this I believe the job was bigger than they had expected and ended up charging us for 2 extra hours and more for the second man when they shouldn't of charged us extra because they said they would be able to do all the work in the alotted 4 hours. They did finish the job but I would not recommend them to anyone.

We apologize if there was any misunderstanding. Our rates are hourly and based on 1 service tech. In order to keep your costs down we only dispatch the second tech long enough to install the stairs. The trim and the paint work does not require a second tech and would not be an efficient use of his time.
