Steve was extremely knowledgeable and worked with us every step of the way from design concept to construction. The crew was also very professional and made sure things were clean and tidy on a daily basis. The results were beautiful and we've enjoyed our new outdoor environment. We plan on using American Deck (and Steve) again for another patio project.

I worked with Sean throughout the process, who proved to be honest, straightforward, and overall very easy to work with. He was very detailed about what he could do with the project and worked very hard to give us a very high quality product while staying within the budget we had established. Sean answered all of my questions and concerns, but was sometimes slow in his communication as I got the impression that he is extremely busy all of the time. That being said, Mia was very responsive and pleasant to work with regarding billing, payment, and general coordination. I was very pleased and impressed that the project started on time and was completed faster than initially promised. The crew--Lenny in particular--was awesome to work with. Lenny communicated very well concerning any questions regarding the status of the project and he came across as very trustworthy and customer-oriented. The bottom line was that we could not have been happier with the end result of our new patio. We would hire American Deck and Patio again and will keep them in mind when we are ready to move forward with future projects.

Steve worked with us closely through the entire process. He was very patient in listening to all the things we wanted, and addressed all of our questions making sure that everything was addressed. An important factor was that it was easy to get in touch with him during the process. He was responsive, acted upon our requests, and always followed up. It was a pleasant experience. The work crew was very professional, and was proficient in creating a quality product. We are very happy with the results.

We priced 5 contractors, selected American Deck based on their consultative approach, overall price, and comfort with the resources they had available to complete the job on time and completely. Other than starting a couple days past their initial estimated start date (due completely to weather) they arrived on time and worked very quickly, hitting all of their benchmarks along the way and completing the project on time. They performed all of the work while we were at work, and our neighbors commented on how quickly they worked, their courtesy extended to the neighbors, and how they were respectful to ours and ajoining homes. We are extremely impressed with their performance. Special nod to Dave Lumbardo, who provided the initial consultation and oversaw the entire project. He not only listened to our goals, he provided his expert opinion and recommendations as to options we may not have thought of, including bidding two prices depending upon the scope of two variations in work on the lower level.

He did a great job! He provided several options and prices, and was very knowledgeable. The whole process of setting up; appointments, going through options, and the professionalism of the work performed were all excellent. And we love how much better our deck looks! The only glitch was that he forgot to hold my check for a couple days, even though he agreed to do so. So it cleared before the date we had agreed upon, but luckily I had enough money in my account. So no harm done. I let him know about it, and he apologized.

Unfortunately we did not use them but I feel they would have given us exactly what we wanted and in a timely manner.

The initial estimate was provided in a timely manner and the installation was done with some minor delays. The crew who worked at the job were professional and consistent. They had recommendations on improvements and the work was done well. However, once the work was complete I found two problems: 1) According to a deck inspector, they had not used the right screws under the deck (so additional work may be needed later on) 2) Some of the board were placed with the wood stamps facing up so that you can see the name of the wood manufacturer when you walk on the deck. That is something cosmetic that can NOT be fixed. I contacted them by phone regarding the issues. We played telephone tag for a couple of months and then I did not hear from them again.

American Deck was very responsive to our urgent winter need to remove a collapsed deck and construct a new deck. Our deck collapsed on Christmas Eve and within a week we had numerous bids and we decided to go with this company. Steve was a great contractor and his crew were top notch professionals. We are very happy with both the deck and the fence. We highly recommend this company!

The entire process from estimate to completion went smoothly. The owner , Seon, and the installers, Joe and John were professionally courteous and always available to answer my questions. Highly recommend them.

The company always responded quickly to any concerns or problems, they really understood what we wanted, and they devised a way for us to keep our peacocks off the deck. Furthermore, the crew did excellent work, the price was fair, and they didn't leave behind a mess after finishing the project.

The process got off to a bit of a rocky start. I contacted the company to request an estimate and didn't hear back from anyone for several days. I received a call back maybe a week or two after submission, and the woman with whom I spoke apologized for the delay and let us know that she simply missed our request. We weren't in a real big hurry and things happen, so it wasn't a huge red flag for us, but was something to take note of while considering if they were a good fit. Once we established contact with Andy, things flowed efficiently and professionally. The estimate occurred on time as planned (actually I think he may have been a little early), and all documents and options were explained thoroughly and provided in a timely manner. We weighed our options and decided to go with them because of their thoroughness in the estimate and the way they've handled their negative reviews on Angie's List. We could have gone a little cheaper, but the price was right for quality work and materials. It took a little over a month from accepting the bid to getting the finished product, but this was the fault of our HOA, not AmDeck. It took almost 3 weeks to get approval for a deck that pretty much mirrored what it would be replacing. This wasn't due to anything with the work being done, but rather the inaction of the HOA. After numerous phone calls and emails from us to the HOA over the span of 2 weeks, Andy reached out to the HOA and got both a response and approval within a matter of HOURS. This is important because our city requires an acceptance letter from the HOA before it will issue a permit to build, so this literally held up the entire project. Once we got the permit, it took 5 days to get the deck completed, which was the amount of time estimated to complete the project. The crew actually could have completed it in 4 days had they not needed to take a day to finish another project. This absence caused a bit of concern because they had been there 3 days in a row and had made considerable progress, but didn't show up on the 4th day. We unfortunately didn't know this would happen ahead of time and were concerned/anxious because we were very excited to see the progress the crew was making each day, and then they weren't there, which is behavior we had heard from a couple horror stories from other contractors that ended up in law suits. We contacted Andy to sort this out and it turned out he wasn't aware the crew wasn't on site that day. He spoke with the crew manager and found out that he made the call to use the day to make progress on a different job since they had gotten so far so quickly on ours, but that they would definitely be there on day 5 along with Andy to finish it up. Again, this wasn't a big deal because they did have 5 days to complete the project, but it was part of the journey. They did show up bright and early the next day and finished as expected. We are extremely happy with the finished product. AmDeck does a picture frame to enclose the decking so that it isn't just a run of boards. It's a very nice touch that adds a bit of subtle flair, and people who have seen the deck have definitely noticed itt. The crew was extremely clean in their work each day and left the patio underneath the deck in immaculate condition when the project was done. We will absolutely use them if we pursue any further patio work and will recommend them to anyone who needs to have their deck done.

We contacted American Deck and Patio to get a quote to rebuild our deck surface and handrails and create a dry zone for the underneath patio. Andy came to our home for a quote, right on schedule, and wrote up a quote comparable to another well-rated Angie's List deck company. We went with Andy because he was willing to draft a full quote when visiting when he knew we were collecting other quotes, while the other firm just gave a rough estimate and then e-mailed their quote later. Andy also suggested ways to slightly lower the price, while still completing the project we wanted. The new deck surface and handrails and water-proofing system took just over a week to complete and looked great. The one problem was the waterproofing system (Dek-drain) leaked. A quick call and the crew came back to repair the leaks; except the repair didn't work and a new leak developed. Two more attempts were made to fix the leaks that were unsuccessful. Apparently this water system works better on new construction that being retrofitted onto an existing deck structure. To AD&P's credit, they offered us either a discount or to place different water diversion system that looks more like a ceiling over the patio to stop the leaks. We went with the other system and the patio now is dry in the rain and looks like it has a white ceiling. We appreciate that the company kept working with us until we were happy with the outcome and have received many favorable reviews from our neighbors on how the new deck looks.

I first Contacted Steve at AD&P, and he was courteous on the phone. The conversation just felt right!! We scheduled a consultation at which time Steve came to my property, and looked at the scope of work. He was attentive, and was actively listening to my concerns, and my design ideas. Within a week, he had a proposal ready. We met again to go over the design scheme, choose materials, and the rest is history. The workers arrived early on day one, and the project moved along quickly. The contract explained every step of the process as it was to proceed, and it went exactly as scripted. The craftsmanship is impeccable. My only complaint was that I didn't get to really break it in before the weather changed, and we were getting our first inch of snow!!! I have nothing but rave reviews for AD&P. The project manager (Steve) sent text messages, pictures of the work, emails and voice mails as I had to make multiple emergency trips out of town during the 3 week project. I would highly recommend this provider to anyone that wants quality work, excellent craftsmanship, and a project to be completed as promised!! Keep up the great work American Deck and Patio (Steve specifically). Can't wait for a spring-time BBQ!!

We contacted American Deck and Patio to demolish and rebuild a small deck attached to our second story master bedroom. I cannot s ay enough positive things about them. Prior to selecting them, we investigated two other companies. We decided on American Deck and Patio because after speaking with Sean Conway, the owner, and Steve Schultz, our project manager, we were confident the job would be completed well. They listened to what we wanted and advised us on the best way to achieve it. The job was able to be started in a timely manner, which was very convenient for us. The entire project was completed in less than a week and we are beyond pleased with the work done. A large part of the reason we are so happy about our project's outcome is the amount of professionalism and customer service that was shown. My husband who is a retired contractor, spent alot of time conversing with Steve and was impressed by his knowledge and management skills. Steve further impressed us by coming to check on employee work and ensure that the project was done correctly. The job followed the agreed upon project scope because of his involvement. The workers for our project were amazing as well. They were diligent, organized, and worked at a fast steady pace while being respectful and polite.Communication with this company was easy as well. Even though our job was relatively small, we were treated like we were their largest, most important client. Sean, the owner, is very personable and a delight to work with. Considering the demand for the company,it was great to have such access to the owner. Some other reviews mention that they had difficulty getting in contact with the company about their ongoing work, but that was never the case with us. We were very fortunate to find this company and have a completed job that exceeded expectations. Sean's company is an exemplar for anyone considering starting a business, as well as those already in existence.

American Deck & Patio did a stellar job from my first meeting with owner Sean right through the entire construction process of building my new deck and screened porch. The end result is an outdoor living space that is magazine showpiece beautiful. I am super impressed with the quality of the workmanship and materials, as well as with the professionalism and attention to detail demonstrated by Sean and construction foreman Joe. Before choosing American Deck & Patio, I spent substantial time researching contractors, obtaining estimates, and contacting and visiting references. Sean's proposal was the most thorough and well-presented of those I received. Pricing was excellent. Sean worked with me through several meetings and phone calls to custom design a deck and screened porch that would best satisfy my needs and desires while staying within my budget. He presented multiple options and suggestions, and offered insights regarding the advantages and disadvantages of various choices. Sean's knowledge, experience, his excellent communications skills, as well as his thorough answers to my several thousand questions were very helpful throughout the process. Sean was project manager from start to finish. The project involved building an open deck and a larger enclosed screened porch at a second story level on the back of my house. A new patio door was installed in an opening that had to be created in the dining room wall to allow access to the screened porch. The porch included a lighted ceiling fan, several electrical outlets and a finished ceiling. Under the deck, a ceiling fan and under-deck drainage system with ceiling was installed. The construction crew, consisting of foreman Joe and carpenters John and Mike, was awesome! They arrived on time each day. Joe kept me fully apprised regarding work plans, county inspections, various issues, and coordinated with me regarding my schedule whenever necessary. He was courteous, professional, attentive to detail, and very easy to communicate with. The crew was hardworking and their workmanship reflected their strong work ethic. Joe did a fabulous job creating the opening in my dining room wall and installing the new patio door - very neat work and the door works great. Construction started several weeks late due to delays at a previous construction project. Construction of my project took five weeks. There were issues with the electrical subcontractor who did not show up when scheduled and then could not be reached by phone for a time. Delays in rescheduling the electrical work caused a slight delay in completion of my project. However, these were minor inconveniences that did not affect the overall quality or beauty of the final result. Overall, I absolutely love my new outdoor living space - it is gorgeous! I highly recommend American Deck & Patio for creation of beautiful, high-quality, custom-designed outdoor living areas. Sean and his team are among the best contractors I have ever worked with. They have earned my trust.

The service was fine. They were pretty flexible in considering different designs for the balcony. They worked with us to find the most cost effective solution for our issues.

They did a great job. They delivered what they said they would. They were nice and worked well. There were a few issues that arose after a year that surprised me but I have yet to follow up with them.

There were a few delays in starting the project. The quality of their work was excellent. Andy Lombardo was who I worked with to design the patio, it is beautiful and I love it. Their carpenters were great. The electrical subcontractor they had did not show up when they were supposed to and did not properly complete the work. He had to come back twice and I had to keep calling them directly to get them to finish the job. In the end I love the porch and the work that was done.

From the start it was clear American Deck and Patio (AD&P) was very interested in the job and looked forward to working on a project of this size. Their price was competitive given the scale of the project and challenges of working in such a confined space but it was their straightforward no-nonsense approach to everything and numerous other nearby projects that really sold us on their services. Sean took a great amount of time to explain to us the process involved and the challenges we might encounter along the way. He was also very open about other projects he had bookending this effort and how weather, inspections, etc could play into the timing of everything. Any time a small issue or problem came up, he made it a point to come by the house personally and meet me to walk through everything. Joe was the foreman on our project and was very personable, skilled, and open to feedback / questions along the way. His crews conducted themselves very professionally and always tried to take good care of our home, roofs, yard, etc. Any issue I ever brought up, Joe was quick to take a detailed look and work through a solution. Overall, this was an incredibly good construction experience (I have had some very bad ones) and I would not hesitate to recommend AD&P to my friends and neighbors... in fact, I already have on at least two occasions. Our friends and family are incredibly impressed by the decks and the build quality of what AD&P produced.

We got three bids on the project and not only was Sean's the best price it was also the most comprehensive. We are currently living out of state and renting our house so I did not meet Sean in person. He went to the house for his evaluation then called and we discussed it over the phone. He gave a very detailed explanation of his recommendations and provided pictures of what to expect of the finished product. He was able to get us on the schedule very quickly- just the week after we signed the contract. Our tenants had nothing but good things to say about the crew that performed the work. The foreman made an excellent observation that one of the existing concrete footers was insufficient and needed to be replaced along with one of the support posts that on initial observation didn't appear to be a problem. So what was supposed to be more of a refurbishment turned into a rebuild. Remarkably we were not charged extra for these fixes that were not anticipated. Despite the extra work they were still able to finish the product on time and the result is fantastic! The pictures look great and our tenants are very happy with the results. Steve was very responsive and kept me updated with emails and pictures while the work was being completed. Mia was great to work with from the office perspective. They use intuit for electronic payment because we weren't there in person to give them a check. This facilitated the payment process and was very easy to use. All in all we were very satisfied with Sean and the work that was done. I would recommend them without reservation! Sean is very detailed and thorough and his team really delivers. We look forward to working with Sean in the future on other outdoor projects.

Other than delays due to weather and an unexpected family emergency, the project was done in a timely manner. Sean provided the most comprehensive review of options of any of the contractors that bid on the project. He also gave great advice concerning my dealings with the homeowners association, which can be difficult to deal with at times. I received 3 bids, all within $100 of each other, but Sean made me feel as if he really wanted my business, and that, along with his knowledge, tipped the scales in his favor. The tear down of the old deck went quickly and, except for the delays mentioned above, the building of the new deck was fairly quick. They also took care of getting the proper permits and inspections. The deck is beautiful and is I don't think will ever have issues with the stability as the posts are solidly in the ground (I think even deeper than the old posts). Also, American Deck offers a 5 year warranty on the structure and workmanship, where most companies only offer 1 year. I would definitely recommend American Deck & Patio for any deck needs.

Unexpectedly happy with results. In our area (Washington, DC) we were getting quotes of $65k and up for a project of this size with low maintenance materials. Sean Conway of Am Deck was our contractor and his DC team were skilled and we had daily contact with them. Sean was able to offer us a much lower price for several reasons I think: 1) he only builds decks, porches, and outdoor project (mostly decks and porches I think), so his teams have the whole process streamlined, and are familiar with time-saving, and quality- improving building techniques; 2) he offers a 10% discount for winter builds if you close the deal sometime in November; 3) he was able to identify areas where we could save on materials, and honestly explained the quality differences - e.g. we wanted all low maintenance materials, but that made the project too expensive. Sean suggested low-maintenance decking, because the horizontal surfaces get more water and sunlight, and pressure treated wood for vertical ballisters, which get less exposure and which we planned to stain; 4) he suggested a retail version of Azek Decking which was the same as the Pro Version, but much cheaper. Only difference was fewer custom colors, but that wasn't a problem for us; and 5) he uses his own "Expediter Inspector," so each project phase is approved within a day, not within 1-2 weeks using the City Inspectors. (This is a legal method in DC) Sean encourages daily contact because it allows errors to be fixed before other parts get built, which might make error correction impossible. Sean also spent a lot of time, pre-contract, going over options, making suggestions, and providing explanations. He clearly loves building porches and decks, and he is committed to satisfying his customers. He was also flexible with timing. Even though he had contracts backed up, he agreed to stop work for 2 weeks once the porch and deck was built, to give us time to stain before putting up the screens, gutters, and final touches. The end result is fantastic. The back of our house used to be a 2 story, straight line of red bricks. Now we have an A-Frame Roof on the back of the house, with lots of architectural variation. Plus the porch provides fantastic views of our backyard, is private, and has become the main attraction of the house. Things to note: DC Zoning and Construction Approvals are very arbitrary. Sean can handle the arbitrariness of construction approval, but does not get involved in DC Zoning Approvals or Exemptions. In our case, that meant hiring an architect to get the approval that the zoning was in order. This added about $1,500 to our project. Also, once the project gets going, Sean mostly works through his on-site construction team to approve changes or correct mistakes as a first step. If that fails to satisfy, it will be easier to contact him directly, since he will have discussed the issue with his crew and will understand the issue better than if you contact him for each little thing.
