The only minor constructive feedback is that the crew had to move some things around in the course of the work and broke a hurricane candle holder and a thermometer and did not put the furniture back when they were finished. I am sure if I had told Sean about it he would have addressed it, but it was a petty concern and perhaps my fault for leaving glass outside during construction. Thermometer was a cheapie that fell off the post, so no big deal.
Sean was just a pleasure to deal with at every phase and I would highly recommend this company. Our patio under our deck is now like another room in our house and another place to entertain rain or shine. And we have a nice little waterproof storage area for firewood and tools.
Sean was very professional about the abrupt stop and then the re-start and showed up at his next availability and walked through every step of the project, the materials and the time table.
Sean did a good job of keeping us updated on the special order items and always responded to my emails about the project start time. As there was a small delay in getting our support columns (which Sean kept us aware of), Sean was able to meet our needs of pushing the project back a week so as not to interfere with a social event at our home.
Project kicked off and went very quickly with Javier and Jose getting the work done fast, efficiently and safely. They took the care to mount our mailbox for us and save all the items that were connected to the porch (flag, flagpole, holder, address numbering).
The job went very well and Sean and his crew made all the small cosmetic detail changes we asked for in the final couple of days of the project so that the final project looked just as we wanted.
In full disclosure, I initially gave Sean and American Deck a poor review on Angie's List due to the initial quote we received and the glitches that were mentioned earlier. However, after contracting with them, I assured Sean, at his request, that I would give my full assessment of their performance and work and resubmit my review to AL. The only place that I did not give American Deck and Patio an 'A' was on Price. Although I do believe that their price was fair and Sean went through exactly what those costs were for each part of the project, I felt an 'A' meant that I was totally comfortable with the price...and I still wish/thought/hoped it could have been lower.
BUT -- the work was efficient and professional and the look is exactly as was sketched/diagrammed out and to our specifications. The timetable was met. And the crew was polite, mindful, professional, and kept the area very clean and clear of hazards.
In the end, the best endorsement I can give Sean/American Deck and Patio is that after having our porch done, I would recommend them to others without hesitation.
"I am the owner, Sean C, and all above is true. Regarding the contact number, I failed to note that a number to reach the client was at the bottom of his contact info attache to his email. So, I did ask for a number to reach him as I wanted to speak to him (I find it very hard to understand that failure to notice a # and request it, that this should be held against me?). Secondly, I was very delayed in getting the proposal to the client. As I explained and apologized, I was absoutely slammed with folks looking to contract with my company. As a small company where I am the owner and face of the company, as well as a committed father and husband, I simply don't have enough time in the day to tackle all that I must do. So I make choices. I chose to devote my time to those who had projects we were working on and devote my time to those that had proposals in hand, and wanted to contract with me. While I hate to lose business, I must focus my attentions to those that have projects in the ground or are pending. I did forward the proposal to the customer with an explanation, as well as an apology. Furthermore, I told him that we were now quoting 8 weeks out due to the sheer amount of work that had come in and expressed my apologies that I had taken so long to get back to him. I can take the criticism but feel that this report left out important details. I fell short on the time I stated I would send out the proposal. But I DID send it out...along with an apology and an explanation. I also then followed up numerous times to make certain the customer recieved it and to see if they had any questions or concerns. I take great pride in attempting to deliver a quality project at a competitive price while extending courteous and professional service to any and all folks I meet. I don't always succeed but I consistently try. And I apologize when I fall short. Afterall, I am human."
