The end result was very good. I was trying to ready my home for sale, so I was a bit on edge about scheduling. With both jobs there were times where I didn't get my phone calls returned for several days, which did make me a bit nervous. But ultimately, they showed up on the days promised and did the work promptly. Mr. McAuliffe demonstrated excellent knowledge about the type of flooring and wood in my older home, and even used salvaged boards from a house of similar vintage to make a better match. He was willing to answer my questions and explain what he was doing during the job. For the second job I was really running into the deadline to market my home. Mr. McAuliffe actually took a day out of the middle of his family vacation to personally assure that my job got done along with another job he was working on. I can't imagine very many people doing that.
Description of Work: Two separate jobs on different dates. The first was to repair water damage to an oak floor directly beneath a refrigerator. The second job was to replace boards in a similar dining room floor where there was pet urine damage.

Perfect. Couldn't have been any better. Mr. McAuliffe provided a detailed estimate, and explained exactly which of several options he recommended, and why. He was helpful in telling me about the various wood products available, and in guiding me in making a good selection. He had to work along with the construction company that the owners of the building are using to rehab the apartments, and this was not always easy because they were not the most cooperative people in the world. The work was done on time. The estimate proved accurate. Cleanup after was good. Everything was perfect.
Description of Work: On a concrete floor in a apartment in a building built about 1962, the company laid a gypsum covering, and then installed maple engineered wood with a cork cushion. They finished up with matching shoe molding. (The building is in process of being rehabbed and converted to condos. The construction company that the building's owners have contracted with are doing all of the rehab except for the wood floors, which we did ourselves.)

We had wall-to-wall carpeting in the living room, dining room, and hall of our 1960 house. We had what we believed to be damage under the hall carpet from years of having pets that smelled bad in damp weather. We decided to take up the living room and hall carpet, leaving the dining room. Admiral did an excellent job of this, taking up the carpets, putting in binders at the edges of the remaining carpets, sanding and refinishing the good wooden floors underneath. There was some pet damage, but the sanding removed it. They put up plastic barriers to keep the sawdust out of the other rooms and put exhaust fans in the windows to keep dust out of the house. They came on time and did the work when they said. It looks great!
Description of Work: Refinished hardwood floors.

In the end the floors looked good, but the process was really tough. There were billing issues. It was complicated. In terms of helping us choose the floors, they were very good and patient. They clearly cared about the quality of their work.

Technicians did an excellent job with the refinishing. However, the installation of the shoe molding was not acceptable. There are two curved walls in the living room bay that required rubber, flexible molding. The flexible molding and wood molding were not joined properly. Technicians filled the gaps with a substance that never hardened. In addition, technicians did not take time to cut and angle the wood molding accurately and, as a result, many gaps remained where wood shoe molding met wood shoe molding.
Description of Work: Admiral Hardwood Floors refinished (sanded and polyurethaned) living and dining rooms floors. Company installed new shoe molding.

I have to give this company a mixed assessment, due to Admiral's insufficient oversight of its contractors. Admiral's Steve Remy came promptly and gave me a reasonable quote for two floor repairs before the costly but standard refinishing. The work commenced promptly and looks great. However, workers, who found a third area where the boards were weak, did not bring it to my attention. Afterwards, I had to call Admiral back in (with difficulty; they were no longer so responsive or eager to take such a small job), at which point the repair estimate was at least twice as expensive, so I declined it. Also, initially the workers put in a new shoe molding smaller than the original which left gaps between the floor and base boards but failed to report this! To their credit, Admiral's owners came out to assess the problem and replaced the shoe molding with jumbo shoe molding at no extra charge. But all this redoing would have been unnecessary if there had been adequate oversight initially.
Description of Work: Two areas with loose boards were repaired; all hardwood floors in the 725 sq. foot condo were sanded and refinished with one coat of polyurethane; shoe molding was replaced throughout the condo.

After a second phone call, the company was polite and responsive. We arranged for an estimate visit and they came when expected and gave us the price. We decided to use them and they scheduled the work to begin very quickly, which we needed. After several scheduling glitches where the workman doing the job agreed to come at one time and then didn't show because the boss had scheduled him elsewhere, the work was completed satisfactorily. Overall, we are happy with the company and would use them again. A very nice job.
Description of Work: The work was to repair a patch of hardwood floor that had been damaged from a plumbing leak. It needed sanding, staining, and varnish. Most importantly, it had to match the rest of the floor.

Steve was on time, and very thorough in his evaluation of my (minor) floor defect. I wanted the repair in preparation for selling my condo. Steve told me that the repair would be very expensive (and may not match my floor color) for little return in investment if I sold my condo. So, he recommended against a repair unless I was comfortable spending a lot of money, or willing to redo my entire floor. I really appreciated his honesty and obvious depth of knowledge of floors and the condo market, so I opted not to get it repaired. He was thorough and objective in his explanation, which seems to be rare in my experience!
Description of Work: No work performed; only an evaluation.

Excellent service, a small but very professional company that provides a lot of personal attention and customer service. When issues arose, the owner came to our home himself to ensure that he devised a solution that we were happy with which was very impressive.
Description of Work: We hired Admiral Floors to sand and refinish (w/ two coats of oil based polyurethane) our dressing room + closet area.
