The house was constructed in 2006 at the height of the real estate bubble. Piney Island charged us top prices and killed us when we went to make changes. For example, we changed the door and lock hardware finishes from brass to chrome. They charged $1000 as an extra. Supervision of subcontractors was minimal. We were on site frequently and caught many errors. For a custom house with lots of upgrades the finish workmanship was average rather than excellent. We are still finding holes in the walls and poorly cut trim when we go to paint or clean an out of the way area. After the first year they were gone and wouldn't recognize responsibility for stress cracks. The house developed a sag in the roof due to the framer's omitting a roof beam. Piney Island did come back and fix that but it wasn't easy. They are OK but I wouldn't recommend them if you are looking for a nicely finished house at a fair price.

The quality of the work was mediocre for a supposedly high end custom house. PIB had no workers of its own. They used subcontractors entirely. The quality of the work depended on the quality of the sub. PIB's superintendent was rarely on site and did not control the quality of the work. PIB gouged us on change orders. We paid top dollar to change items such as the finish of door hardware. Trim work and cabinet installation was mediocre. Follow on subcontractors damaged previously installed work. The owner made a big show of checking plumbness of walls but wall bulges remained. Too many of the interior doors still won't stay open because they were hung out of level. The finish carpenter returned to try to rehang the doors but couldn't straighten them without tearing out walls. Everything is builder's grade unless we specifically upgraded and paid top dollar. Example: The garbage disposal is a 2 year warranty item and failed after 3 years. Has been replaced by us. The appliance supplier used the floor samples from his showroom instead of new out of the box. We caught this and complained. Rather than having to wait months for new we accepted floor samples and got a discount on the pricing. I would avoid them if you are looking for a quality house with craftsmanship to be proud of.
