Sila Heating, Cooling and Plumbing

The estimator never showed up. When I called, they rescheduled for the next week. Then they called and said the estimator had hurt his back and could we do it tomorrow. The estimator showed up as scheduled and things went well. He said he would get back to me with the estimate. Then he called and said that Sila did not do what I wanted (condensing boiler with zone controls) in DC but that there was another company which did and he had told them I would be calling. I called the second company late in the day and they said that there was no one to schedule an appointment, but that someone would call me the next day. The second company never called and I figured that if this was the level of business professionalism, I didn't want Sila or anyone they recommended to work on my pipes.

Sila's service technician identified the possible source of the error code, reset the boiler, and performed the annual maintenance. Sila has provided us with service on our boiler before and their customer service representatives and service technicians are always very friendly, professional, and responsive. The technicians seem knowledgeable and take the time to explain things and answer questions. We will definitely use Sila in the future.

I am not sure this review will impact Sila's popularity on this website and I imagine my case is not the norm. However, having trusted Angie's list to help me identify a trusted provider I feel compelled to share my story. First let me say all of the Sila employees have been incredibly gracious and have excellent customer services skills. Unfortunately, empathy and "sorry" is a poor susbtitute for working heat especially during snow days. Within 12 hours of my boiler installation the system began to make a horrible noise throughout the whole entire house. As I was off of work the following day on a Friday it was easy to schedule for a repair person to come take a look at the issue. It turned out the water pressure had been turned up too high and this was causing an internal valve to stay open when it should have remained shut. The problem was solved within an hour's time. However, a new problem quickly arose. The heat stopped working altogether. I went without heat from Saturday to Wednesday which was the next time our schedules coordinated. They could not provide me with service when I called on the snowy Monday morning after the weekend as they were too busy with other jobs. I was understanding and used a mini space heater by my bed and then stayed with friends. They came on Wednesday and fixed the issue. Yay! Heat at last! Not so fast...I had specifically asked the Sila consultant who sold me the boiler if it would effect the functioning of two ancillary heaters in my bathrooms that run off the boiler system. He said with confidence it would not. However, he was wrong. These heaters have not worked since Sila's last visit nearly one week ago. At this point I contacted Sila and let them know I was frustrated with the service I had received and I was not expecting to take this amount of time off of work to accommodate their mistakes. I have never been a fan of "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" method of communicating however, I am not against being assertive and voicing my dissappointment. I asked Sila to make time for me on a certain date since I was not willing to take off of work again. Lo, and behold I come home today and 15 minutes after my appointment start time Sila is nowhere to be found. I called them and was told I had not even been put on the schedule. The manager offered to have someone come out tonight however, I am no longer canceling my plans in order to accommodate their failures. When is the next time they can meet with me? 3 days from now...Arghh!

Our Munchkin boiler shut off during the fall and was displaying an error code. Joey from Sila's Glen Burnie office came out and diagnosed the problem, explained the options for fixing it, and recommended that we replace the motor if the problem persisted. Since the problem persisted we called Sila back to schedule for the motor to be replaced. Joey replaced the motor, but the next day the boiler shutoff with a different error code. Joey came right back and determined that it was caused by a piece of plastic that had become warped. Joey apologized for not noticing it when he replaced the motor, ordered a replacement part with express shipping, and came back to replace it for no charge when the part arrived. Joey was incredibly trustworthy, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He takes the time to answer questions and explain things. I would highly recommend Sila based on my interactions with Joey and the office staff I spoke with, as well as based on the experience we had with Joey fixing our boiler.

It went great. They came out within a few days. We have never had our furnace checked in 7 years. There was not necessarily anything wrong, we just wanted to have somebody check it out. They had about 20 different things that they checked for a very reasonable price. They were very professional. They had great communication.

They were fine. He let me know that there is work to be done inside the boilers so I had it done. He was quick and efficient. He was polite and came out. He did the tune up and showed me parts that should be replaced. He didn't promote anything but he just wants me to see parts that are rusting badly and should be replaced. So then couple of weeks later, I called them back and he replaced it quickly.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for part of this overall service and it turned out wonderful. We had the gentleman who came out service three different units. We have two at our current house and another at a house we rent out. He took his time, answered my questions and was very patient with me. He gave us some insight into how to maintain the units because I had not been doing it properly in the past. Unfortunately he told us the downstairs unit, which we were already having trouble with, needed to be replaced so he just did that work, which was not included in the Big Deal so I paid a lot over the deal price. Their price is probably more expensive, but I got quality service.

Around 9am this morning, I called Sila to ask for an appointment. The person on the phone was friendly and professional. He was able to dispatch someone to our house in less than two hours. The service man was very professional and had a good sense of humor about our two dogs, who insisted on watching him work. Within 10 minutes he diagnosed the problem, as well as another issues we weren't even aware of, and had them fixed promptly. He charged us for 15 minutes' labor and was out the door just barely two hours after I made the call. Would definitely call these guys again if we had an HVAC problem in the future.

First they sent out a technician to review the problem and then they send someone to give me an estimate and he came a number of times to review and to narrow down what he thinks should be done for the problem. I liked how he explained and guaranteed the work.

They were on time, very professional, and the price was reasonable. We have a very small crawl space to get to our furnace which they were able to get to. When I first called I told them that we'd need a skinny guy and they accommodated that perfectly. We will use them again in the future!

The technician who came out was extremely knowledgeable.

It was good. They got the job done in about 30 minutes. They sent one guy out to do the job. The scheduling was very good.

The service technician arrived promptly and performed the necessary work.

He did a tune-up on the furnace. He was at the house for about 20-30 minutes and was very clean. It was a fine experience.

He did a very thorough check and found two problems. There was a leaky gas valve, which he tightened, and he found a crack on the heat exchanger. He showed us the crack to prove that he wasn't BS-ing. I really appreciated that he did this, rather than just rely on word of mouth. He was very courteous and most importantly he did not try to push any extra services with us. He didn't try to sell us a furnace or anything ridiculous like that. He also had requisite knowledge about how bad the crack problem was and he advised us on what to do when asked. We were really appreciative of his work. Also, they had very nice service personnel as well who contacted me on the phone to set up the appointment and if we wanted any follow up work. But again they did not push their products. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone in the future for this type of service if not more. I would trust them with my furnace installation if they provided comparable prices, which I don't know because we decided to get the furnace installed by a friend, who is certainly charging us less than the fair market value.

I contacted Sila on February 15th because my furnace was blowing out cold air. When I called the office number it immediately rolled over and someone answered. I was informed that there is a $98 charge to diagnosis the issue and additional costs to fix what ever the issue is. I was given a 2 hour window appointment for February 16th. The tech, Julio showed up within the window I was given. He was very polite, courteous and explained that my sensors on my furnace need to be cleaned. He walked me through the various parts of my furnace and how all the parts worked. He also recommended future maintenance suggestions, checked my filters and made sure I had a carbon monoxide detector. I am very satisfied with the service Sila provided.

They did what they said they were going to do. Scheduling went as planned and they showed up on time for the appointment. They were prompt and very thorough in the appointment. They cleaned up well after themselves. I was satisfied with my experience.

No one showed up, and no one called. The estimate was for my rental property, and I drove out there and waited. I waited the whole appointment window, and finally called their "emergency" number as the only number available on a Saturday. I give Sila some credit because about a half hour later, I did receive a call back from their emergency technician. However, he had no was of determining who was supposed to be coming to our house, so he had no idea who to contact. At that point, having wasted my morning waiting for someone to show up, I was unimpressed and noted that I would be unlikely to have work performed by an unreliable company. I give a B for professionalism because everyone I spoke to on the phone, both to schedule the appointment, and the emergency technician were very polite. UPDATE: The technician followed up with me and apologized for calendaring the appointment on the wrong week. He asked for the opportunity to come by and provide a quote, so we set up a new time. He was punctual for the second appointment and polite. They did provide a quote thereafter, but the quote was higher than others we had received. We may use them for a smaller project.

This was so easy -- I scheduled the appointment (at a very convenient time), the technician was punctual and personable, he did the check and answered all my questions. And, as a bonus, my furnace didn't need any other work! Great experience.

Joey was our technician who did the service for us. He is a great technician. Very pleased with the service. I will definately use Sila again. The price is very good!

We really appreciate the prompt service and professionalism. The technician not only fixed the issue but talked through the problem and solution, and gave us tips for later in the year. The first-time customer coupon on Angie's List also helped a lot making the entire visit very affordable. We will use this company again - also plan to sign up for a maintenance contract with them!

It worked out fine. There were no additional charges beyond the big deal amount.

He listened to my concerns and made very solid recommendations about what might/might not go wrong with my furnace. I would highly recommend them.
