Sila Heating, Cooling and Plumbing

I called Sila July 1, my AC stopped working during 95 degree days. Joey came out the same day and said he couldn't do anything because the unit was iced over. He turned the AC on fan only and said he'd come back the next day which he did. Joey came out on July 2nd. The unit was thawed out. He said the 10 year old unit was pumping backwards, the compressor was bad and could not be replaced. He said I would have to buy a new AC unit and coils for the furnace. He called Rich to come give me an estimate for the $7,000 job. I pleaded for a way to fix it given I did not have $7,000. Joey said I could turn the AC on but it would freeze over...but the fan may give the house a little comfort. Then charged me for a service call and left. I turned the AC on and nothing. No fan, no AC. Rich came out a couple of hours later to give me an estimate for a replacement. I told him the fan was not blowing. He indicated that that could cause the unit to freeze over and I may have a different problem. He turn the AC on fan only and the fan did not kick on. He felt the line and said the Freon was flowing into the coils. He left and called back later on July 2nd saying he'd talked to Joey and Joey said the fan worked. Rich asked again if I wanted to purchase the new unit and should go ahead and replace the furnaces at the same time because they were 25 years old; and said they could finance the job. I declined and called another HVAC company for a second opinion. In the meantime, I turned the heat on to see if it worked. Heat was blowing through the vents. Rich called again to give me a quote for a new unit. I told him the fan worked for the heat but not the AC. Again he indicated that Joey said the fan worked. The second company came out on July 3rd and listened when I said the AC fan was not blowing air. It turned out to be a bad AC relay switch. A fairly common repair and much less expensive than $7,000. After 2 days of dealing with Sila and sweltering in an 85 degree house, I had air within an hour! Is there a grade lower than an F?

I apologize for not posting this review sooner but I wanted to wait and see how the unit performed during the heat. The unit is working wonderfully. Sila did an outstanding job with the inspection of my old unit and installation of my new HVAC unit. The unit they replaced is located on the roof and heats/cools the 2nd level. The whole team was fantastic to work with, very friendly and professional. They even cleaned up after and did a better job then I would have. They took the time to inform me on each step of the installation. Their service is by far the best and I've been owning homes in DC for the last 21 years. I highly recommend them for any of your heating and cooling needs.

The tech was punctual (the appointment was at 8am which is the first appointment so I expected him to be on time). He was very knowledgeable about my system and changed a rusted part on my unit. The price of the part seemed a little high but it wasn't worth me trying to fix it myself or have someone come to change it for a lower price. When I initially contacted Sila in May, the rep quoted me a price of $99 but there were no appointments until June. When the tech arrived, he said that it would be $169. I showed him the email and after a quick phone call, they honored the $99 price. Easy and no hassle! He also informed me about a service plan which I plan to get in the future.

They were very prompt in responding to me by phone to schedule an appointment. Arrived on time and worked efficiently to check out the furnace to make sure it was in good working order for the winter.

I had these folks out to diagnose the problem with my air conditioner. They did and charged me over $200 to fix it. Then the problem got worse. Their solution was to replace the entire unit, which cost me $5000. Now it works even worse than before and I can't get a call back. They also said they would deduct the cost of the previous service, but went ahead and charged me the full amount despite repeated assurances that all would be taken care of. It is currently 78 degrees outside and 80 degrees inside my house with the air conditioning on full blast. It would be almost funny if I hadn't wasted so much money. I am very unhappy with their service and what appears to be dishonest business practices. AVOID THIS COMPANY

All went well. Advised me to have a estimate for low ventilation in bedrooms upstairs.

We originally got our high velocity A/C system installed by Sila last spring. Everything went really well. However, we started a first floor renovation where we removed some walls and quickly realized that the duct placement now made no sense. I had explained originally explained to the folks that the renovation was in the pipeline at the time of installation, but I guess sometimes it's difficult to understand without seeing it all ripped up. At any rate, I called to explain that now the ducts/vents made no sense and the company promptly sent a guy out to move them around to make sure the vent openings were properly aligned and in the most strategic places--at no cost. In addition, they installed an additional duct/vent in the master bedroom to improve the circulation/cooling in that room--at no cost. Great service at every turn!

It was great. They went the extra mile because our unit is on the roof and our neighbor’s keep bees. They came out at 6 am to work on the unit. They first thought they would have to replace the unit, but they figured it out and replaced a blown fuse. The technician was very professional and he researched information about the bees and how to deal with them.

He was polite, punctual, and knowledgeable about product. However, the price seemed high and I felt like maybe what he was suggesting we needed to do was going to be more than we wanted/needed. Ended up using another company.

Everything went fine. No complaints what so ever.

The job was fine. There was nothing exceptional one way or the other. We were pleased.

It went ok. Two electricians were at the house for about eight hours. I wrote all of this last year.

I typically don't post reviews but I felt compelled for this service. I called Sila at 8:45 am and explained my issue and they were able to send a technician out to my house by 11:45 am. The technician (Joey) arrived on time and was able to diagnose the issue during our initial discussion. We went straight to the roof and found the problem without wasting any time. Joey explained that it was a bad capacitor and took the time to show me the issue and explain the problem in detail. He actually had a capacitor with him so he was able to fix the issue without ordering any parts. He also checked the coolant levels and found that the coolant levels were low so he added 1 lb. of coolant. We also discussed considerations for a new thermostat. My A/C is now working perfectly. Very happy with the service.

The service turned out pretty good. They showed up on time, when they said they would, and they were able to give a morning appointment so I could do it before work. It took them a long time to get the part.

They were really good. The person came on time. He called before hand and I appreciate that courtesy. He actually pointed out what went wrong with the heater. I think he could have done a little bit more, not just what I asked for but also other equipment included in the HVAC package. He only looked at the heater he didn't do anything with the A/C. I would have appreciated it more if he did a complete HVAC inspection, honestly he was there for no more than a half hour. It's called diagnostic, he would have appreciate a full diagnostic of the full HVAC not just the heater.

I got three quotes for a new AC unit that will service my second floor. Sila had the best price for a basic 2 ton 13 SEER AC unit installed by $1300. John the sales guy who helped me with the quote a couple of times because I changed my mind on where the AC was to be installed and the SEER Rating and was always nice about my changes. The day of the install, the two main installers showed up a bit early and got started right away. I was struck by how polite these two guys were. They communicated with me through out the process and made sure they knew how to contact me when i had to run out for a bit. They put drop cloths down on the floor and wore things over there shoes to keep the floors clean. Overall very pleasant experience. I will use Sila to service my existing heat and AC units. Awesome job.

Great! Our technician was punctual and professional. When he came the first time, it was clear we needed a new filter, so he changed it and recommended we let the unit run a week or so before doing the inspection so he didn't even charge us. When he came the next time, he walked me through the inspection, pointed out problem areas, and offered us multiple potential solutions without pushing a lot of extras we didn't need. We've already recommended Sila to friends and will definitely use them again in the future!

I called at 9:15 the morning after Memorial Day weekend about what I suspected to be low refrigerant on my AC unit. They said they'd arrive between 10 and 12 and the technician was at my house by 10:30. He was professional, friendly and quick. He charged up my refrigerant and discussed the status of my system (luckily not too bad). Within two hours of my initial call it was done and I had cool air again. I cannot recommend these folks enough. Great experience.

The technician did a complete review of the AC unit and furnace

I called about 10 am. They tried to walk me through several solutions on the phone but nothing worked. To my great surprise they were able to get a couple workers to my house by noon the same day. They were able to isolate the cause of the problem very quickly and fix it immediately. They then proceeded to check out the whole system. They were in and out in about half an hour and charged me less than the coupon they had in the newspaper for routine maintenance. I was extremely pleased and highly recommend Sila Heating and Air Conditioning.

Service was better than I expected. Joey had no problem with me observing the entire service. He was absolutely wonderful in explaining everything he did. In addition he answered my questions thoroughly and provided lots of tips and advice for maintaining my system. He did not recommended any additional work...no additional costs. The service was as advertised....in fact, better than advertised in my opinion because I also learned all about my system.

Spoke with Jonathan and arranged for a technician to come out on 4/25/2014 between 3-5pm to perform Spring A/C tune-up. Received a call from Jonathan around 4pm indicating that the technician was running behind and he was unable to give me a time the technician would be able to come out. After informing Jonathan of my limited availability during the normal work week, he stated that he would talk with his technicians and contact me on 4/28/2014 to arrange another time perhaps on a Saturday. Well, as of 5/17/2014, I still have not heard from Jonathan nor any other Sila representative. Unbeknownst to Jonathan, I had planned to establish a contract with Sila for regular maintenance, of course based on the outcome of this service. So, not only did Sila miss out on this opportunity, but, I will not contact Sila for any future service.
