Not well. J was nice on the phone, and sent someone out quickly. I was happy at first. The technician arrived early, and cited what part he would need. I was told that I would get a return call with an estimate. The next morning, I had still not heard anything so I reached out. Price quoted was $663. I asked for a break down of parts vs. labor, and they wouldn't provide it. They said that it works out to a 60/40 split of parts to labor. Except that when you look online at comparable parts, that isn't correct - an inducer motor costs no more than $150-200, and when you apply that ratio the numbers don't add up. Also, the max price quoted online was only $550. So, then I called Angie's List - no help there. Could file a complaint - maybe. Was advised to call them back for a supervisor (E.) or find someone else. I called them back and explained the facts. J. tried to assuage my feelings by telling me what brand the part was and by telling me it was on the truck (my gut told me that he ordered it when we were on the phone that morning). I hesitate to believe that given that information was being withheld. I spoke to supervisor E. He said "we may not be the cheapest guys around..." (I take that as a bad sign.) I moved on to another provider What's crazy is that the other company said that if they ordered the part they might not be able to send it back....? Surprised and overall disappointed. That's what happened.

We contacted Sila when our AC quit on a 90+ degree day. We were able to get a technician to our house the same day and he was able to get the AC to work again. 3 days later, it stopped working again. The same technician came out and determined that our heat pump is DOA and that we should replace the heat pump as well as the air handler. A salesperson came to our house that evening to give us quotes on the new units. Since we are purchasing an energy efficient unit, we inquired about the rebate that Pepco is giving. Our salesperson, Chris, didn't know how much we are eligible for but told us that no matter what the rebate is, Sila would make up the difference up to $500. He also discounted what we paid for previous repair work. With that, we agreed to have Sila do the installs for the new units. The Sila team showed up at our door on time and did a very good job with the install. The level of professionalism on the part of their technicians and phone operators must be commended. Fast forward 3 months, we have not heard from Pepco or Sila regarding the Pepco rebate. We called Sila and spoke to Evan. He said that he would check with Chris, our salesperson, and get back to us. We didn't hear from Evan after a couple of days so we decided to call back. He was not available so we left a message for him to call back. We've been leaving messages for Evan for the better part of the last month with no call back. Although the technicians are very professional, we cannot say the same about the sales tactics. They promised us the Pepco rebate the make the sale with no intention of following through. We were duped into making a very large purchase and not being about to return the items. Update 1/12/2015 Sila sent us a check for $500 after this review went up and we disputed the charges with our credit card. Rating was changed to "C" for the professionalism of the technicians and the phone operators.

My roof requires a ladder in order to gain access. I made sure to advise them of the size of my house and roof access when I initially contacted them, however I was told after they came out the second time (having brought along a ladder that was not the correct size) that they would have to charge me double for the work. I found another service provider for the job.

We purchased new furnace and AC units from Sila which they installed at our single family house in DC. Chris was the best sales person of the 5 people I had quote the job. He was the most thorough and professional of the people that came to the house to bid the project. He took detailed measurements of the house and fit us with the right sized units. His quotation was the most detailed and complete and made us feel like Sila was a very capable company to do business with. He was also very patient in answering questions and in working to meet competitive bids. The Sila crew that came to do the installations were equally professional. They came as promised and performed all the work agreed upon within the time frame quoted . They were friendly, good about putting on protective booties when they need to come inside and overall were pleasant to deal with. The end result looks good and is working good. We are very pleased with the process and the end results. I would highly recommend them and would use them again. Two downsides to be aware of. 1. They are not the cheapest provider out there, but will be competitive with your guidance. 2. They are not part of DC rebate program.

The technician came during the time window of the appointment. He even called ahead of time to say that he was on his way. That kind of communications with the customer is always very much appreciated. There were no major problems, but the technician said that I should have a condensate drain switch installed, because if there ever was a blockage, I could end up with water dripping through my ceiling (my A/C unit is in the attic). So I ended up having a condensate pan overflow switch installed (I had a bottom pan overflow switch installed rather than drain pipe switch, because I figured that it would cover a greater set of potential problems, including a blockage of the condensate pipe). The only problem I really had is that it seemed a bit expensive for the work that was done. An overflow switch costs about $20 if I were to go out and buy one myself, and it took the technician about 15 minutes to install it, but he charged about $200 for the work. That seemed a bit steep to me (like over $700/hour after subtracting out the cost of the switch; if the average time to do this job is 30 minutes, that would still be around $360/hour). Of course, I had to make a decision on the spot, so to save time and aggravation, I had him do the work (I didn't want to bother with getting an estimate from another company, or to try to install it myself -- realistically, it would probably be a 2 hour project for me, given that I've never done it before). Would I use Sila Heating & Air Conditioning again? Possibly. They were professional and courteous, and seemed capable and competent. No complaints there. But in the back of my mind, if I'm honest, I'd have to say that I felt a bit ripped-off. I don't really know how much other companies would charge for the same work -- for all I know, that could be the going rate. And maybe it does take a technician 45 minutes on average to do the work. But given that technician was already at the house (i.e., no additional dispatch costs), and given how much time it actually took him to do the work (not trying to penalize him for being efficient), it just seemed a bit expensive.

Although no services were provided, I thought I ought to briefly share my experience with having a consultation and price quote for several gas furnace models (all Lennox). The consultant came out and did a thorough review of the current old furnace and the house. He was very professional, courteous and the prices quoted are definitely competitive (for both the market-wide and model specific perspective). I decide to NOT go with them because of reasons beyond the control of the consultant. In short, if you are in the market for a new gas furnace and are looking at several suppliers/installers, then I would definitely have the Sila people come out to provide what will undoubtedly be very competitively priced products.

First off, I want to mention that I am very late writing this review. I intended to write it at the end of the summer after evaluating the performance of the new A/C, but I got sidetracked. The service was performed in late June, 2014. I worked with Rich Kelly. The base unit Rich suggested was a SEER 13 Lennox compressor and blower for $5900. I chose to upgrade to a SEER 15 unit with variable speed blower for an additional $800. Total cost for the job was $6800. Sila really worked hard to earn my business. Not only did their quote come in the lower than the other 3 companies I checked, but they also noticed that the old central A/C unit that was in my house when I bought it was oversized (2 of the 4 companies pointed this out). The size was probably leading to all sorts of issues like the occasional frozen coils that I noticed and larger electricity bills than were necessary. Sila's crew was professional, on time, and did a fantastic job. Highly recommend.

The tech was punctual and polite. He was considerate of my home using the shoe covers and asking where he could drain the water. He inspected and flushed the water heater as indicated. He did tell use he recommended a replacement part that was in need of replacing due to the age but the unit is functioning and we plan to replace it soon knowing its life is limited and not as energy efficient as the new ones. He did tell me that the $59 we paid would be credited to the bill if we had them replace the water heater within 30 days, He wrote the name of the brand on the invoice for me.

I'll start by saying I was pressed for time in picking an installer for a new AC system, so I only spent time with two contractors for this work. I went with Sila-Air because the sales staff member was convincing in making me think they were top quality. On multiple occasions, they tried to reinforce their quality by saying if anything is wrong -- like 2 degree temperature differences -- they'd be out to fix it. What prompted me to write this review is the fact that I have sent two e-mails across two weeks to ask for help with a problem, yet I have not had one response. I just called their DC number and got a busy signal, as if it had been disconnected. Right after that, the Baltimore office and got a voice mail machine. So paying thousands more for quality and service is apparently not so worth it. The issue at hand is that they installed the control panel next to my laundry room. I only noticed the issue with this recently after the summer months passed, as when the temperature is more moderate, the AC system is more sensitive to the laundry heat. It would always run in the summer, but now if I run the laundry, it will be triggered by a several degree increase in heat that is localized. Now a few additional highlights of the poor experience that I was willing to look past due to my dire need for AC and hope for future quality from this company: 1. Multiple instances of salesman misleading and not knowing facts -- I had to correct him when I asked what the decibel level of the compressor was. He gave it a better rating than the manufacturer's website did. Here's the exchange verbatim: Me: "I thought I was getting an industry-leading unit, but that appears to be bottom of the barrel. The dB level says 76 yet you stated it was 63. Please advise, thanks." Sila: "No I am offering the 14ACX, however, I made a mistake the DB level is still 75." 2. Could not handle dealing with my co-op board. Sales staff member was wishy washy with my board and they were more critical than I had hoped. Sales staff at Sila needs to be more affirmative with their plans and not oscillate between plans. One board member used the word "putz" as a description. 3. No room to budge on price. They were $3,000 more than the other offer I had. Simply put: I paid too much. Ultimately, while I am fine with most of the product I received (actual engineers were nice and professional), the sales support has the feel of snake oil. Their sales staff uses tons of fluffy language, over-promises, and then goes away when you first have a service problem. For $16,000, I expected more and caution all who consider making such a significant investment with Sila. ***Update*** An engineer just came out to fix my issue of the thermostat problem. He was on time, knowledgeable, and did a great job fixing the problem. Very pleased with the outcome of this service call, which was free of charge.

I bought an Angie's List coupon for water heater maintenance (especially flush for $59). Scheduling was very easy and there was an ample choice for appointments. The company also offered maintenance for my heating system (water boiler for hot water radiators) for $79 which I took as I needed service there as well. Service was very good: on time, friendly, technician took time to explain everything. Cleaned out (Heat Boiler) carefully, replaced defective thermocouple (pilot on burner would not stay on since the end of last winter) and tested that radiators would work (i.e. heat up) correctly after finishing maintenance on the boiler. Afterwards technician flushed hot water heater and tested the exhaust vent. Only (minor) caveat: Pricing for the replacement part! The thermocouple for my Burnham Burner was $275 (in addition to the $79 for general maintenance). I am no expert on heating systems but this part is a set of wires with a sensor. It did not appear to be a piece of very sophisticated technology and the steep price surprised me a little. Still I wanted the system to work and was willing to pay the price for a piece that will probably last for years. Overall SILA did an excellent job and the experience was very pleasant all the way from first scheduling call through the service performed.
