Sila Heating, Cooling and Plumbing

This was a "deal" that I bought through Angie's List. They changed the filter and supposedly cleaned the unit. However, I had accidentally ordered the wrong size filter (too small) and instead of saying something, the technician just inserted into my HVAC system. What good is a filter if the air just goes around it?!? Then, he inspected the rattling noise. He tightened some screws, which reduced the noise by a little bit, but it was still really loud. Then he said basically that's as good as it's going to get, and that the noise was completely normal. However, we've lived in close proximity to the HVAC for the last 6 years and it was NOT normal. Then he claimed that it was damaged and we needed to replace the entire inducer assemble, which he quoted me over $1,000. So I hired a different company, and they opened up the HVAC and found that the main parts were super dirty even though Sila was supposed to have cleaned it. The inducer was covered with dust and debris. The new company cleaned the ignition, flame sensor, inducer, and drain. After some oil, and a cleaning, it was now super quiet, and not rattling anymore. Sila not only quoted me $1,000 for something that I didn't need, but they didn't even do the job I hired them for. On top of that, they charged me for the service, and then charged my tenant as well (who was there to meet them). They refunded the money to my tenant, but it was embarrassing that they didn't follow instructions, and collected money from someone who was not the owner, even when they had already been paid. They were instructed to call me if they had any questions, and they never did. Never again. They cut corners and then use the visit as an opportunity to sell you on expensive repairs that you don't even need. Thanks for nothing Sila.

Hired this company to look at A/C last year and it went well. Did the same with the gas heater. Tech recommended certain item to watch for. No high pressure sales or bogus repair requests. Cleaned the system and inspected. Offered several ideas for replacement and repairs based on findings. Sila gives you a list of what they suggest on the cheap vs full replacement which is great in case you don't have money to replace everything. I also use them because they have serviced other houses in the area and are familiar with the models used during construction years ago.

*Bottom line: Sila advised me against installing newer models. From the beginning I had high energy bills and problems despite having a new unit and a new thermostat. Now the refrigerant is leaking. This is a 4 years old unit! They couldn’t fix it today which translates into $1200 energy bills for the next three months.* I did my research and I knew I wanted a high efficiency AC/heating system (after all, the old one was working just fine - I just wanted to lower my energy bills). I got different quotes from different vendors, all very similar in price. I went with Sila because of the excellent reviews. The guy from Sila came by, looked at the old unit/pipes and informed me that the existing pipes were only a 1/4 inch therefore couldn't install a Lennox (or Carrier or such). The only option was to have a newer model of whatever was already there, which was a Rudd. So I did. They are the experts, right? Right from the get go, I started having problems. So I called Sila again and another guy came by to take a look at the unit. He told me I should've gone with a higher efficiency model, like Lennox! I told him that's what I wanted in the first place but I was advised otherwise. He said nothing. I found out later that the guy who advised me not to go with a high end unit didn't work with the company anymore. So I never got a straight answer as why I didn't have other options available. I’ve been getting costly energy bills despite the newer model and the new programmable thermostat. Last month I got a $415 energy bill. My townhouse is 1200 sq. feet only. I have a programmable thermostat that I set it up to 66 when not at home and when sleeping. I couldn't understand what was going on. (Yeah, I know it's cold out, but not $400 dollars-cold. I checked with my neighbors and everybody got half of that amount for the same month/size house.) I called Sila and they said I should have a maintenance visit and they would charge me close to $90. Last maintenance was done three months ago... but I agreed anyway since it's a different season. So another guy came today. He was very nice and respectful but stained my carpet with mud all over because he didn't wear the disposable booties. He apologized profusely but I had to clean a whole set of stairs. Carpet aside, he said the outside unit was not working. This is a less than 4 years old unit! "You must be getting really high energy bills!" he said. Indeed. He also said the refrigerant was low, there was a leak. Sila will charge me the maintenance fee (almost $90) plus the refrigerant by the pound. I told him the refrigerant shouldn't be leaking. He asked me who installed the unit. I said "You guys!" He said once he adds the refrigerant, the outside unit should work again. Well... it's cold outside and he couldn't add it. He said "give us a call in April" (!) That would be $1200 in energy bills! (provided they can fix it in April...)

He came out when I called him. He told me I needed a new one. He was good. He was a young guy too. He knew what he was talking about. He helped me out, and put some Freon in it. He told me how long it was going to work. I did not pay anymore than the Big Deal. He was very professional. He was great. He was straight up. He went and looked at the air conditioner and told me what he did. I would use him again.

They did a good job for me. The price was good too. You call them and immediately get assistance. No pressure at all.

It went great until after he left. Water heater started leaking. Ended up paying $1700 for a flush.

Outside of the time frame we were told, the company kept us in the loop.

Sila Heating & Air Conditioning came out and took care of my job in short order with no questions asks. Every other company I contacted gave me the run around. Sila did an excellent job! I will definitely recommend them and absolutely use them, again.

The repairperson tried to tell one of my units (the one with the leak) needed Freon, and it was the old type Freon and would therefore be expensive. I didn't think it would be R22 because I only had the units for 5 years. He told me also, I should replace that unit and I might as well replace the other one while I was at it. I declined. At one point he did tell me that what I thought was leaking was because the unit was not tilted in order to enable the water condensation to drain out.

I picked this company because of all the good reviews. The company answered promptly they arrived on time. A very pleasant young man arrived at my front door. My unit was cleaned and a maintenance check was done. I explained to the young man about the unit working sometimes. When he finished working on the unit, the unit would not work. He tried everything and then finally it started working again. He told me if the unit stopped working again to call and ask for Josh he is a pro at diagnosing problems and he is on call. I ask him do you think the unit will cut off again? He replied no I don't think it will cut off. Well the unit stopped working again not even 30 min after the tech left. I called the company and they were closed so I used the emergency number. There was a voicemail to leave a message, so I did leave a message. I did not hear from anyone so I called again and I still did not hear from anyone. I have no heat and no one called me from the emergency on call number. Money lost very disappointed.

The job was done in about 30-46 min.

Excellent, the technician arrived on time, performed the checks and small maintenance interventions, plus, he answered all the question that I asked regarding the functionality of the unit, and recommended further maintenance of the AC unit. Very professional and pleasant communication.

Great experience. Very professional, timely, and courteous service tech. Didn't try to sell my unnecessary products or services. Explained what he was doing and gave advice on how best to use and treat my system.

Sila ranks very high on quality of service, punctuality, professionalism, responsiveness to a follow-up call, etc. Since they don't manufacture the products, I don't include product quality in the ratings. I went ahead with the technician's recommendation of a new furnace, and I have no problems or complaints with it. Sila also included a Nest thermostat and a box of 10 furnace filters, and they accepted a credit card, which was helpful. The reason I gave an overall "B" rating instead of "A" is that the price for the system was high. I didn't do comparison shopping at the time because the representative was so knowledgeable and persuasive, but from what I have learned from later inquiries, I could have gotten a much better price for the same system. So I regard Sila as a high-end company, and I generally prefer to do business with smaller companies that charge more moderately for their services. This questionnaire allows only a YES or NO answer regarding doing business again, so I was obliged to say "no" simply on the basis of price.
