Sila Heating, Cooling and Plumbing

I first hired Sila last fall to perform a routine inspection of my furnace. At that time I purchased a service contract to cover both the furnace and the A/C unit, which are both older units. Over the winter I had several issues with the furnace breaking down, but Sila always came through and fixed it promptly. All of the repairs were covered under my service contract, which is great. I used to have a home warranty that covered the A/C and furnace, but I prefer working with Sila because they are so professional and polite. We did get a bid from Sila and three other contractors to replace both our A/C and furnace, and Sila's bid was about 20% higher than the other contractors. But for regular maintenance and repairs I would highly recommend Sila.

So.... I'm really at a loss at how to rate my experience. My furnace/blower stopped working. So I called Sila at 1245 and had a technician out by 330 on the same day. FAST service. And Oscar was extremely professional. He explained everything thoroughly, and I genuinely thought nice to work with. The service call cost $68 w/ the $30 Angie's List coupon. For same day -- I think that's *fantastic*!!! But.... BUT.... I had to get the capacitor replaced. Oscar just simply said, "I'm going to replace this. Maybe it will help." Made sense to me. As he is putting it on, we tai about my very old motor, furnace, service plans, etc.. And then he mentions the cost of the capacitor is $241. Now, I'm confused. Granted it's been a long time since I played with capacitors (college) and most of mine were circuit board sized. And I have no real experience fixing furnaces. Maybe this is just how much a 5MFD 440/370 costs, right? I look it up afterwards.... I can find them from about $10-$40 depending on brand quality. I know there is installation cost. Expertise cost. Warranty cost. But $200 for an install that took Oscar 10min???????????? I'm not sure if I should call the company or just let it be since, as mentioned -- I had prompt, professional service that did indeed fix my issue. Sigh.

My heat pump ceased working one day before I called Sila. They were extremely professional. They agreed to come over the next day between 10 and 12 am. At 10:30am Oscar (technician) was there. Minutes before he arrived, Sila's dispatch called to let me know of his impending arrival. Oscar checked the heat pump. Turns out it was working but the compressor shut off because it was dirty and because the drip pan of the in-house unit had filled with water. Oscar cleaned and tuned the heat pump and recommended a service contract that I was glad to sign up for given his professionalism and obvious knowledge. I would highly recommend this service to anyone in need of hiring an AC service. Thanks Angie's List... I would not have known where to look for help without this website!

Sila's website states that it offer 24-hour emergency services, including the loss of A/C. I called at 10pm and left a message on the emergency message line. It wasn't returned. I filled out the emergency form online the next morning at 7am. Still no response. When I called, I was told there were no appointments for a week. With 90 degree weather, I couldn't wait that long. I was disappointed that this company advertises 24 hour and emergency services, but was not responsive or able to provide this service.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and they were great. The young man was excellent, he was efficient, he was highly knowlegeable about his task, and we highly recommend him. The price was good, because it was an Angie's List bargain.

The technician was prompt and knowledgeable. He was thorough in his inspection and gave me great tips on how to maintain my very old system as well as what I can do to keep the top floor of my home cool. This is the first time, after an inspection, my home stayed cool on a high setting (74 degrees).

The service was fine. I didn't have any problems with it.

They came on 8/9 as we scheduled. The gentleman was nice. Work was well done. I only pay for the maintenance but did not sign the annual plan with them because the price was too high. I do understand they provide more in their package, especially on the emergency service. However, since my unit is still quite new, I think I just need a regular maintenance contract. As my unit get older, I might go back and hire them in the future.

From the preliminary discussion to the installation, they were great! Although scheduled to start lat in the month. They started earlier than planned. And finished in the time they said. They cleaned up every day, leaving no mess. They were extremely professional from the beginning. Great service! We are so glad to have chosen to work with Sila.

I had purchased a big deal and the service turned out pretty good. They called me right after I purchased the big deal, to set the appointment, and they were courteous as far as setting up the appointment. He even talked me through how I could change my thermostate. My furnace is upside down, because of how the house is. They were on time, courteous, and professional.

I called yesterday and was told they would call me first thing today with a time. The technician came when he said he would. He quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it. I had searched Angie's list, this company had good reviews. They had a coupon, which was for $30. I would use them again.

Sila sent a very skilled and extremely hardworking crew of people. The main installer really knows his stuff and these people showed utmost diligence and professionalism. They were able to come down through closets and fish ducts through old plaster walls and ceilings. The result was a low-profile system that looks better and more modern than the traditional ducted AC systems.

Sila provided excellent service. Brentin was very hands on from the estimate through completion of the project and was helpful throughout. The work was done earlier than anticipated due to another cancellation so we got slotted in. The workers kept the house clean throughout the 5 days they were in the house and were always respectful of the house. While we were present for most of the work, it was never disrupting. The job took an extra day without much explanation but that would be the only minor quibble. Would definitely recommend Sila in the future.

Great experience from the first sales pitch to the final walk-thru. The salesmen were knowledgeable, responsive, and pitched their product without pressuring us. The pricing was competitive. The installers did a great job cleaning up each day, answered our questions, and finished within the timeframe estimated.

I thought that the technician was very professional and skilled, but what he told me and put in writing what was wrong with my central AC did not seem to make sense given that I bought the house less than a year ago, I had a home inspection at the time, the seller had the system checked and maintenance performed immediately prior to my closing, and I had just turned the AC on. According to him, the coils were 75% clogged and the condensate pump was broken, and total repairs and cleaning would cost about $500-$600; he gave me the name of another company that he said did warranty work and that he said I should ask for. The entire system is only about 4-5 years old, so fairly new, and it was freezing up. I sent that diagnosis to the home warrantly company, and they denied my claim over the phone because that level of coil clogging had to be "my fault." I called another HVAC company on Angie's List to look at it, and that technician said the coils were perfectly clean, the condensate pump was working, but not great, and it could go at any time or could last another year, but that wouldn't cause the problem I was having--the real problem that was causing the freezing up was probably due to the flexible ductwork the previous owner put in to raise the clearance of the basement ceiling. That ductwork had been compromised by the electrican who replaced my panel a few weeks before. He also said that the company the technician had recommended, which is not on Angie's List, was "shady." Consequently, I got very bad information from Sila, and I would not use them again for fear that I would get the same technician.

Call before you buy any deals from this company! I had to wait three and half weeks before I could schedule an appointment. If I had known this before I purchased the service, I would have chosen another company--even one with a lesser grade. Other than having to wait almost a month, the service was fine. The employee showed up on time, was professional, and the person with whom I spoke on the phone was very nice.

The initial service call went great and the technician explained all our options. We decided to get an estimate on a new conditioner. The salesman (John Trancucci) was also very good and gave us all the information to determine the best choice for us. The installers came on 7/26 and spent the day replacing our old conditioner with a new Lennox. At the end of the day, all seemed to be working. However, later that evening the cooling stopped. Since it was then the weekend, we waited to call until Sunday (our mistake as they said they would have returned immediately). They were able to find the problem and correct it and all seems well now. They were always very prompt, professional, and pleasant. It was a positive experience working with this company.

I was very pleased with Sila and while I didn't need the A/C tune up with the type of unit I have, I do plan to use them for other HVAC services in the future. Scheduling was easy thanks to having a website I could do it from. They called to confirm and they showed up on time.

We were able to scheduled the appointment of the same day we called. The serviceman showed up on time and was very personable. He assess our heating and thermostat and told us that they were working properly. We also asked for and received an estimate fora humidified. Our overall experience was excellent.

The staff was a pleasure to work with. They did not complain or argue with us to change the design. I was very pleased on how fast they were able to make the changes. They were delightful about everything.

The provider showed up on time, and was very professional. He performed the tune-up and cleaned off my unit on the outside, I noticed that it ran more smoothly afterwards.
