Excellent. Probably the best furnace check up I've had. And, he did not try to upsell me as most every other technician has tried to do.

They were very professional. They were very good at cleaning up after themselves every day. They kept me informed and stayed in budget. I was pretty happy with them. Their price was high, but we get what we pay for. They did stick with their budget, so it's not like there were hidden costs.

John and his team had their hands full with our project. We live in a small condo in DuPont circle and to save space our builder had built our AC unit into the drywall. I spoke with a number of contractors before Sila and many turned down the project outright. Others indicated the need to take out multiple walls to complete the job as well as would have required us to get our own contractor to put the walls back up. The Sila Team was professional, helpful and creative from the first introduction. They looked thoroughly at the project and devised a creative solution that minimized our damage and had turnkey reconstruction service included. Their delivery and execution were also exactly what they said. No complaints at all. I would certainly use them again (but hopefully not for another 15 years).

Oscar was fantastic. He explained everything he was doing, provided helpful tips, etc. 2 Hour window was provided. Company called when he was 30-45 minutes away. Oscar was courteous. He stopped to put on protective covers over his boots, so he did not track in dirt. He walked us through everything and provided some ideas on future maintenance.

The technician was very professional. He pulled the cover off and checked all the connections and switches and cleaned areas that needed it. He checked to make sure there were no leaks. At one point a piece that he was working with broke. But he ordered the part and the next week he returned to replace it at no extra charge. I believe they are an excellent company and would recommend them to anyone.

The check-up was fine, except that the provider tried to convince me that part of my system was rusted out and needed to be replaced. I got a second opinion and found out this was not the case. Also, the low end of this provider's estimate was higher than the high end of either of the other estimates I received. I am not competent to judge whether the quality of the equipment justified the price differential--only that the price differential was very, very large.

Sila showed up promptly, was prompt with the estimate and even offered to lend us a window unit for our master bedroom to help us get through the labor day weekend after our 17-year-old system went kaput. On the day of installation, our salesman, John Trancucci, showed up just to make sure everything went smoothly, and he called afterwards to see if we had any questions. Sila was actually the highest bid we got (over Sears by a couple of hundred), but we were impressed by the service commitment and by the superior reputation of the Lennox system over the Kenmore that Sears sold. Worth noting that another provider, A.P. Matthews, came in lower than either and also has a good Angie's List ratings. We would have seriously considered them, too, but they were a day late submitting an estimate. It was the Labor Day weekend, so maybe that was a factor, but when you need AC, you need AC!

This service turned out to be a disaster. The tech said since the unit was old it probably should be replaced. He then said the coil was dirty and needed cleaning. After cleaning one side of the coil, he started to reinstall it only to break the threaded fitting on the condensate pan. He then told me that the fitting couldn't be fixed and that I would have to pay about $500 for the part and installation. It seems to me that if he broke it, he should fix it! Since (at the time) I thought the tech was trying to do a good job, I said I would try to fix it with plumbing epoxy. He then checked the outside condenser and after immediately telling me it was shot and that I would need a new unit, the condenser kicked in and he said it was right within specs. He left after charging me for a "normal service call" and said it would probably be OK. We went on vacation shortly thereafter and were gone for about three weeks. Shortly after we got back we got a double whammy when: the coil froze solid again and we got an electric bill for $922! Our normal summer bill is between $250 and $350, so the Sila tech had not only NOT fixed the problem, he had cost me almost $700 additional for the month (I have not received the current month's bill which I expect will also be exorbitant.. Bottom line is: the tech came promptly; did a lousy quick fix and left me with an ailing system which will still probably need replacement. I cannot recommend these people at all and will be seeking replacement bids from other companies.
Description of Work: Sila was called because my air-conditioner coil had frozen up and would no longer cool the house. They opened the in-house unit and partially cleaned the coil and then checked the outside condenser for correct coolant and operation.

Joey, the technician, arrived earlier than the scheduled appointment and within a matter of a few minutes was able to determine that the capacitor was defective. Joey stated the cost of the defective item was $230.00 and we approved the work only to find out that anyone can purchase the exact same item for approximately $20.00...see link for this part...http://www.northamericahvac.com/servlet/the-12770/GE-Genteq-Capacitor-Dual/Detail?gclid=CImfyfOIsLkCFYyd4AodkQUAkA. I called and spoke with Evan to express my extreme disappointment of getting charged $230 + $98 service call for a total of $328 for about 15 minutes of work. I can't express enough that everyone should take a few minutes and research how much a replacement part will be for your AC or heating unit. Companies like this don't seem to care about having repeat customers if there goal is to treat people this way. I understand this is a business to make a profit, but to be ripped off is totally unprofessional. I am on the Board for my homeowners subdivision, and this company will be on the "do not use" list of companies due to what transpired with me. I am sure there are more reputable and trustworthy companies out there.

I am on the Board of Directors of a condo association in D.C. and have the unfortunate duty of dealing with a lot of different types of service providers. In D.C. especially, I've found that when it comes to residential service providers (contractors, HVAC companies, plumbers, electricians, etc.), one hopes for mediocrity and prays to not receive utter incompetence. Sila is the shining star when it comes not only to HVAC services, but professional services in general. I could not possibly have had a more pleasant experience with Sila, from start to finish. The service agent who answered the phone was friendly, easy to communicate with, and efficient. She found me a same-day appointment and even called me 15 minutes before the HVAC tech arrived to give me a heads up. Talk about superior service!! The Sila tech, Oscar Robinson, was a true pleasure to work with. He arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently to diagnose the problem with our HVAC system, and best of all, he spoke about the nature of the problem and what he was doing to address it in a straightforward, non-technical way that I could actually understand. Oscar was knowledgeable, professional in the truest sense of the word, friendly, and at no point did I doubt that he was an expert who was doing his very best to fix the problem and spare us unnecessary expense. As Oscar explained what would be necessary for his follow-up visit to permanently fix the issue with my HVAC system, I literally said "I look forward to your return," and I meant it. I've hired two other HVAC companies in the past, and both of those experienced left me feeling not only penniless, but dissatisfied with the service provided and with the gut feeling that the techs did a patch up job of the problem at hand versus identifying the real problem and confidently coming up with a solution. The reverse could not be more true for Sila; I implore you to hire them for your HVAC needs and recommend them without reservation as the best service provider I have ever hired in the D.C. metro area.

While it still blows my mind how much central A/C costs, I feel like I absolutely got my money's worth. The Sila folks were by far the most professional that I spoke with, most thorough in their estimates, most exceptional in their responsiveness and amazingly efficient in their execution. I had called a number of companies that I had researched on Angie's List, some of which never answered their phones, never responded to any messages or never even provided a formal proposal after coming to the house to meet with us. Fitting a 100-year-old home has it's challenges, so we had a little difficulty even deciding on a basic system--traditional duct work, wall-mounted micro units or a high-velocity system. Traditional duct work was the cheapest, but it's big, bulky and problematic around windows, decorative molding and tight spaces that are typical in older homes. Not to mention that you need to tack in another couple grand to get someone to come and box all the duct work in and repaint. I just didn't like the look of the micro units and I had some reservations about the high-velocity system (had heard it was loud and gave uneven temps). Sila walked us through the pros/cons of each system and we ended up going with the high-velocity system. And we love it! Yes, you can hear it turn on and in the corners you can feel a little blowing, but the system cools the house down super quick, all the duct work is hidden (some little man wiggled through our 15-inch high crawl space to run it) and the programmable thermostat is great. Even more amazing was that the work was done in 4 days--and when I say done, I mean totally wrapped up. At every step of the process, the Sila team listened, explained everything and was extremely communicative. In fact, they provided us a list of former customers within a certain radius of home that we were encouraged to call for references. I ended up having pretty detailed conversations with 3 or 4 folks in neighborhoods close by and while all had different A/C systems, all were very happy with the work that Sila did. About the only thing that I would suggest as an improvement to their service would be (1) have a drywall referral ready for customers, because whether you go with traditional duct work or the high-velocity system, there is some boxing in to be done (I so would've gone for the one-stop shop) and (2) include all the extras (higher quality filter, service agreement) in the formal quote. I have to admit that I was surprised when 2 months after the work was completed I got a bill for the additional items. It wasn't clear to me that they hadn't been included in what I had thought was the grand total. But overall I found their pricing to be reasonable. It wasn't the cheapest, but it wasn't way high either, especially when you consider all the other stuff. For example, we had several companies quote us between $12,000 and $15,000 for the traditional duct system, which sort of felt like the option of last resort, still would've required additional dollars to hide a hefty amount of duct work and was recommended to have a two zone system to ensure proper cooling (read: fork over money for essentially a second system). For what we paid, we got a roof-mounted compressor, didn't have to lose any sacred closet space (the main unit is in the crawl space, minimal ducting and unobtrusive venting--plus a super filter and a multi-year service agreement.
Description of Work: Installed a new high-velocity air conditioning system in a 1908 D.C. rowhouse that had never had any type of air conditioning (other than loud, energy-sucking, awkward window units).

Oscar performed the service with high professionallism and seemed very knowledgeable about A/C machinery. He didn't try to sell any extranous services and addressed exactly the issue my A/C had: freezing up the indoor unit coil. While doing that he gave me useful advice and information on how to service the system myself and how to prevent A/C issues in the future. I'm very pleased with the results of the service
