Sila Heating, Cooling and Plumbing

It went great. The furnace had been acting up for a couple days prior to the scheduled visit. At times it would work and other times it would not put out heat. I had purchased the Angie's $89 21 point tune up, I called Sila two days before the scheduled visit to let them know about the problem. They said it was no problem to keep the scheduled tune up appointment and just transfer the prepaid funds toward the cost of any repair. The technician Oliver showed up right on time. He got to work right away. After he determined the problem, he walked me through the issue. He also took the time to explain how the heat pump worked and best ways to use it. The repair turned out to be rather minor and he completed the 21 point tune up as well. He also advised me on scheduling maintenance for spring.

It went very smoothly. Oscar came exactly on time and did the scheduled work in the exact time that he said it would take. He checked everything out. This work was performed under two coupons that I had purchased over the summer and I also used a post card discount for the heat pumps that I got in the mail. The service was performed on time and for the exact price quoted. Several options were presented for future improvements, but I was told by Oscar that they were not necessary right now, but some things would be needed in the spring at the time that the air conditioners are inspected. Oscar is the same service person who has been to my house previously and so he knows my systems and their operations. It is great to have this type of continuity of service. Oscar is fantastic, efficient, knowledgeable and very professional.

It went well. I really liked the service guy. He was honest and professional and didn't try to make me do any expensive repairs. He seemed very knowledgeable, he answered my questions well, and gave good advice. Highly recommend Sila for service work!

A+++ from start to finish. Hands down my best Angie's List experience to date. Brentin and Chris met me at the house and walked me through the various air conditioning alternatives. At that point, we did not yet even own the house, and it took a month or more for us to settle on the house and commit to such a large expense. (During this time, I also spoke with other potential providers and got some other estimates. They were lower, but not appreciably so, and none of the other providers seemed half so organized and experienced with this sort of installation.) Sila was very patient. When we decided to pull the trigger, I called Brentin. Two days later, they started work on the house. It took them a solid four or five days to finish, during which time I did not go to the house. I left the installation completely in Brentin's hands and the hands of the installers (who are all Sila employees). When I finally was able to get to Washington and check on things, I was amazed. The house was dust-free: much cleaner than when we'd left it, and there were no holes or repairs required. Everything was in perfect order. The other AC installers I contacted had cautioned repeatedly that installation would require holes in the plaster and/or build outs in various rooms that -- as AC installers --- they could not/would not fix. As a bonus (sort of), Sila found a cracked joist in our roof that we never would have known about otherwise. All in all, Sila went above and beyond. When the installers determined that our electric panel was too old/weak to accommodate the new central air conditioning system, I (in Baltimore) had a hard time finding an electrician who would go to Washington. Sila stepped in and not only recommended but arranged for a wonderful electrician that we are now using for other projects.

The woman on phone was considerate and polite, but said they do not work on oil furnaces. They add should have specified gas furnaces only.

I'm coming up on my one-year anniversary in my old house and had no idea how long my boiler went without maintenance before I bought the property. I don't know much about boilers or radiators, so $89 seemed like a fair deal to have an expert come look my system over. Oscar was right on time, courteous and professional. Before he started, I let him know I could use advice on troubleshooting my system in addition to the boiler maintenance. I had a bathroom renovated in the summer which required the temporary removal of a radiator. When the weather turned cold, I flipped the heat on and didn't get any heating, so my bathroom contractors didn't leave everything in working order. Oscar gave me some advice and showed me how to bleed the system. The only problem, which was a big problem for me and kept me cold for a few days, was that when Oscar opened the valves, he opened them until there was slight resistance. This didn't fully open them as I later found out after research and days of trial and error. We needed a bit more muscle and more than a half turn to open those valves. I don't know if opening the valves was part of the maintenance or part of Oscar being nice and showing me how to take care of things. When I scheduled the maintenace I did tell the company the problem I was having and was told that the tech could give me advice, so I don't feel as if my expectations were too high. I don't turn boiler valve knobs everyday. If I did, I would hope to know how far to turn them.

The technician arrived early due to cancellations in his schedule and dispatch routing him to me instead! Which was fine by me as I had more time in the afternoon. Not only did he diagnose and fix the air conditioning problem, he was friendly and gave me some good advice. Instead of leaving the unit, he was able to fix it using a universal capacitor that he had in the truck while a brand new was ordered.

The technician (Oscar) arrived on schedule and proceeded to the furnace room and began the indicated work. I felt extremely confident with his knowledge of furnace operations. At the conclusion of the tune up he advised me on the discrepancy he found (dirty filter) and the correction was immediately taken care of>

Brentin provided me with a detailed estimate for installing a/c in my 1922 row house. Once I had decided to proceed with purchasing the system, I was placed on the schedule. On the day of the installation the guys that came to install my system were professional, neat, punctual and very thoughtful in the way they installed my system.

He checked the heat pump and cleaned the filter for me. He explained some things that might go wrong. He warned me that the heat pump was old, and past its normal life span, but didn't try to talk me into buying a new one, and gave me a general price range for a new one.

Joey arrived 5 minutes early; conversed well to assess the status of the system; proposed his actions; and began work immediately. I observed the work and was impressed with Joey?s knowledge of the systems and his thorough and easy manner of getting the job done. Inoted a break in our humidifier water overflow piping ? Joey took extra time (and piping from his truck) to repair it at no charge. I rate Joey?sperformance ?A?. Humidifier pads had tobe ordered, and I heard Joey placing the order with the home office with expected delivery on Joey?s return in two days to install them and complete his servicing of the humidifier. But after a week of waiting I called the office to be told ?I will check on it and call you back.? The next day I got a call saying Joey would bring/install the filters the following week. No explanation and no apology for not notifying us of the delays. Joey just left after installing the filters and completing the humidifier checkup. I rate the overall company performance ?B-?

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and my husband didn't like the guy at all. He came out, and I was here and he told me that there was something that needed to be done on the box outside, and he charged me a lot, come to find out, we didn't even need to have that done. My husband was going to put a stop on the check, but literally, the guy left here and went to the bank. It wasn't a big deal, and we just know not to use them again. He was nice, and the price of the big deal was good.

The company had a week backlog even for emergency services. Not good!!

I was impressed by the professionalism, punctuality, and service provided by the company. Oscar arrived on time, was pleasant and polite, and knowledgeable. He put on shoe coverings right away so as to avoid tracking anything into the house. He also reminded us of the need for a carbon monoxide detector; we literally went out to get one today. I have found the heating and AC company I'll use from now on.

We were thrilled with the service provided by Sila! Over the past year we have had a problem with our furnace and have called out another company several times to fix the problem. On each occasion, we described the problem in detail and were told there was nothing wrong and on their last visit the technician actually replaced a part that did absolutely nothing to fix the problem and actually made it was worse. You can imagine how pleased we were when the Sila electritian, Oscar, arrived in a timely manner, listened to what we had to say, inspected the furnace and located the problem. He had the part on the truck, fixed the problem and walked us through excactly what was going on and the repair made. Our heat is working great and we plan on purchasing the service plan for our heating and AC system.

Called on Oct 25 for heating repair and they couldn't schedule me until November 4. Disappointing.

Very satisfied. They showed up, were professional and friendly, completed their work, and clearly explained the work they had done and any problems that they saw. I will contact them again in a year for the same service. Highly recommended.

Did not like the tone of the woman who handled scheduling.

I used them a couple weeks ago and I paid not hing extra. It was my first time using them. Nothing stood out because it was pretty much what we expected and we had no issues.

Very well. Gave me some good tips on how to keep my heating bills down and how to run the air conditioner more efficiently.

It went fine. I won’t really know if the problems are fixed until I turn the heat on again.

Provider came on Monday at 2pm to provide the estimate. The entire time they were telling me every little detail and how very complicated it would all be. Said, that's fine, just looking for an estimate on how much it would be to do. The folks that they sent were sales people and not technicians at all so couldn't answer basic questions about how the installation would happen. At the end, asked when I could expect the quote, they told me next day by 3pm. Next day comes and goes, never hear from them so I call Wednesday morning. They call me back offering to send a technician because I had asked about what the fundamental issue may be. Told me the price which was extremely high and told them would rather not use their technician and just want the quote..."OK"...still nothing. Call Thursday morning, still no quote. Give them a noon deadline and at 11:57am they give me a one line quote with no detail at all and it's only for the heat pump, not including the air handler we had also talked about. They can't do a simple quote in a timely manner. Didn't deal with their technicians at all, but the prices they quoted me were about 15% higher than I saw elsewhere.

We have used sila for a number of years, we have "tested" other providers but always come back to sila. They also years ago installed our mini-duct airconditioning unit, and that went great.

Arrived on time, efficient at work, expert on heating and A/C systems. Replacement parts raised cost from basic Angie's List offer of $208 for combined services.
