When Alice Fernandes (owner) came out to give an estimate she explained what work was needed and why it was necessary. I was very impressed with her taking the time to educate me on the proper care of the tree. When we expressed concern over the overall size of the tree she suggested work could be done in the winter to reduce the crown of the tree The crew arrived on time, was very professional and did an excellent job. They consulted with us, explained what they were doing and would check back to see if we were satisfied as the work was progressing. When they were done they cleaned-up and hauled away all the debris. We also contracted with the company to come back in the Winter and reduce the crown of the tree and shape the tree. They did an excellent job on that work as well.
Description of Work: We had a huge Bradford Pear tree in the front yard that had grown so big that the branches were starting to touch the house. The tree branches were also blocking the view from one window. A huge branch had broken off the tree several years ago during a very bad storm. We hired a tree company to grind up and take away the branch. We had hired another tree company a few years to prune the tree. I was not that satisfied with either companies so I selected Ed’s Tree Service from Angie’s List to perform the following work: -thin inner sucker branches - remove large deadwood - trim 5 to 8 inches from the house - trim lower branches to elevate 8 to 10 feet from the grown

Tony and the guys were far and away the best ones we met with. They came in a few hundred dollars below the next closest estimate. They were knowledgeable, and took time to answer questions about the project. Showed up on time, worked efficiently, and left a surprisingly small footprint, given the size of the area in which they were working, and the size of the tree that had to come down. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

The price seemed fair for the work involved. The owner (who gave me the estimates) was friendly and responsive. The tree cutting team came on the day scheduled, but very near the end of the day and I was worried they wouldn't show - but they did and performed the work with professionalism.

We needed to have three trees pruned back from the house and one leland cypress removed, to discourage squirrels from jumping onto the roof and chewing their way into an attic area. Alice returned our phone call within the hour, and was delightfully professional to work with. She came out punctually and gave us an extremely competitive estimate on the spot. We scheduled the work for the next week and when bad weather threatened to disrupt our plans a representative called and offered to come out three days early to do the job. The crew was courteous and competent. I was home while they worked, ( which I recommend if there is any possible ambiguity about what needs to be done) and the men willingly climbed back up one tree which I thought needed further pruning. Debris was removed quickly efficiently. I should add that all the work was completed in frigid weather. I highly recommend this company and will use them again if I need further tree services.
Description of Work: One Leland Cypress tree was removed; Tall white pine pruned so no branches overhung gutters or rooftop and dead branches removed. Side limb removed from Bradford pear tree, Apple tree pruned away from the house and gutters, and dead wood removed.

They originally said that they were going to be there the previous week but no one showed up or called. When I called to see what was going on, another date was set and that appointment time was kept. When the technicians got there, they started the work immediately and frequently consulted with me to ensure that my tree was trimmed to my satisfaction. They also took the time to advise me on the characteristics of the type of tree, i.e. how the branches grow, how often to trim the branches, etc. The quality of work was good but not worth the price charged. I wouldn't completely rule them out for the next time I needed a tree service performed but I'm more inclined to shop around first.
Description of Work: I needed the branches trimmed since they were obstructing my neighbors gutters.

The first contact was very positive and professional. An employee listened to my needs and made an appointment for an evaluator to look at my yard and determine an estimate. The same person I initially talked to came out for the estimate. She was very prompt, professional, and knowledgeable. I got what I felt was a very reasonsble estimate and sheduled the work. The tree workers were prompt, had detailed instructions, and kept me updated on their progress. It was a very good experience from beginning contact to final clean-up/bill settling. Will use this comapany again and would definately recommend them!

Ed's Tree Service initially was a problem to communication with. After reporting to Angie's List (comment below) of the problem with communication. I received a call the next day in the late evening. They came out yesterday and from my wife's observation. They did a great job. They did leave the mulch from 2 tree's instead of 1 tree like I asked, but I am sure I can get it sorted out with them. I have a garden to do anyway. The actual work was a good job. Outside of the communication problems, it was a great experience. I would hire again. I am sure that communications will be a little better. FYI. Call them on the phone, they are not responsive to email and don't really email. ======================= Initial Angie's List Complaint ======================= Contacted the company via email and phone before the Christmas holiday to get a quote to cut down 2 tree's and prune a 3rd tree. Company came out on the Friday that we agreed to have the estimate done. Price seemed reasonable but pricing for first tree was $400 higher than all 3 other quotes. Wanted to hire this company and repeatedly called to get on the schedule. Company seems to be ignoring their phones and not responding to customers. Wesite is also showing a Malware warning in Google Chrome that doesn't allow me to go to the website when clicking the link from Angie's list since the website says it could expose my computer to a virus/malware. This company has all "A" reviews. I can't understand why they are so unresponsive and a customer "WANTED" to hire them. It doesn't make any sense to me and I'm a pretty patient and reasonable person. Good lord...respond to customer emails and phone calls.... ========
Description of Work: Contacted company to cut down two tree's near my home and prune the 3rd unhealthy tree. I have a very high risk and leaning 2nd tree that needs to be cut down asap.

The estimate was done within two days of the initial call and came in much lower than a highly-rated competitor in the area. Once I decided to go with Ed's, their telephone communication was prompt and professional. Tony called me once to reschedule the work, which wasn't a problem. I also got a chance to talk to him about the tree and found him to be professional and helpful. Good guy. Although the tree was right on the fenceline, it was removed without any damage to the fence. Also, access was a bit tricky since the tree was in the backyard. I wasn't there to see the work done, but you could hardly tell that anyone had been there. Just a few wood chips. The next day I received a call from the office and paid by credit card over the phone. Smooth and simple. All in all, a very good experience. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Removed a tall wild cherry tree next to a fence. The tree was poorly pruned in its youth and had two trunks, more or less. It was a threat to my house and to my neighbor's.

Met with Owner Alice to look at our large spruce that came down in the storm. She gave me written estimate immediately and carefully described the work to be done. She also answered questions I had about issues with other trees. I liked her advice and ordered some pruning work on another tree. Crew of three people came out next day and did a very nice job. There was some confusion in the main office about what time they would arrive but ultimately did come about 1/2 hr earlier than estimated. They must have pruned the redbuds that the spruced had fallen into. The cleanup was good but not perfect, they missed a log and lots of very small branches.

Shortly after leaving for vacation, a large storm took down a large branch which hit the gutter on the back of the house. It remained partly attached to the trunk. Neighbors cut up some of the branches but the job was too big for them. The neighbors provided pictures of the damage and situation. I contacted Ed's Tree Service and they came out within about 2 weeks, and then provided me with an estimate. It seemed reasonable and was less than another estimate we'd received. We communicated the needed work as best we could given that we did not have direct access to the site. They were slightly delayed (about a week as i recall) in performing the work. One of our neighbors happened to be home at the time of the work and gave them additional directions. Another neighbor reported that it appears they did a good job. Upon returning home, we verified that all was taken care of and everything as cleaned up.
Description of Work: Remove fallen section which was a large branch of a large Ash that had come down and was against the house and gutter. Remove lower branches which were growing over the neighbors yard. Trim back 8 to 10 feet from house. Also trim back another Ash whose branches were growing over a neighbors yard. Remove all piles of branches.

I was extremely impressed with the speed and efficiency of the crew and the care they took to leave the spaces they worked cleaner than when they arrived. I also appreciated that they didn't try to sell any other services but gave a gentle reminder that that they are around to help if we need it. I would definitely recommend to friends if they needed this type of service.
Description of Work: Arrived on time and in force (5 people). Walked through property to discuss the various jobs that needed to be done due to storm damage and general tree maintenance, including cutting a down tree up for firewood. Completed all tasks (cutting, trimming, clean up) in approximately an hour, including an amazing job cleaning up after themselves (the yard looked better after they left than before they came)!

My experience from start to finish was fantastic. All details were clearly explained to me. Staff were punctual, curteous, and knowledgeable. The quality of the work they did was excellent. They didn't take much time do the job but they were also very thorough in doing it. (For more specific details see description above). I have alreadyrecommended them to my neighbors.
Description of Work: Staff arrived promptly at the scheduled time and removed a diseased tree (covered in poison ivy/sumac), ground out its stump (using a machine) hauled away all wood and bushes from my back yard. They also cut the top down to 5 feet and shaped (beautifully) a tree in my front yard. They hauled away all wood and branches, leaving my front and back yard looking great! Before coming out to do the actual work, "Tony" came to see the job, explained what would be done and gave me an estimate. Everyone I came in contact with was courteous and professional. They did a fantastic job! .

The crew arrived when scheduled, and Alice also came to walk the crew leader around and show him the work to be done. The crew of three set to work removing the limbs and hauling the wood to the mulching machine. The crew leader checked with us often to see if things looked OK as he removed branches. When we asked him to remove additional branches, he was quite responsive and completed the work. They did not break for lunch but worked through the afternoon, and cleaned up our yard when they were done.

Very good service. Showed up on-time and as expected for the estimate. Alice not only gave the estimate I requested but also some alternatives for some additional services that I had asked about. We agreed on the work that needed to be done and the next step was scheduling. Due to the storm work, it was going to take several weeks to get the crew on-site; however, I indicated we had guests coming in from out of town on 10 August and it would be great if they could work it in before then. They called to schedule and offered an alternative to remove the trees early, and then come out later and grind the stumps ... good solution and I agreed. On the day the work was done, they had a stump-grinding crew that finished up earlier than expected on another job and asked if they could come back and finish all my work on the one day. ABSOLUTELY. Crew worked well. Cleanup was great. Did not even have to be here for the work. Will use Ed's Tree Service again and anytime I need work done.
Description of Work: Two Bradford Pear trees removed. Half of the trees were in neighbors yard (after storm) and those were cut up and hauled away as well. Additionally, both of the stups were ground up down below grade level to allow for easier re-landscaping.

We have used Ed's before. This time was also a great experience. They were the first to provide an estimate. Because of the bad weather, it took a while for us to get on their schedule. They did a fantastic job. The sweet gum tree has been thinned out, which will hopefully stop if from losing branches. And the dead birch tree has been removed. They also did a great job of cleaning up when they were finished.
Description of Work: Ed's Tree Service came out to give us an estimate on a sweet gum tree that has been giving us problems. We were originally thinking we would need to have it removed entirely. But Ed's convinced us that we should have it trimmed instead, although we got an estimate for both approaches. This saved us a ton of money. They came out an trimmed our sweet gum and also removed a dead birch tree, which we hadn't planned on them doing originally.

Description of Work: As said in the earlier reviews, the business is very professional. They were quick to respond, quick to schedule, quick to appear, and quick to perform. They arrived on the promised day for an estimate, gave me different scenario's and prices. When they were requested to perform, they came on the appointed date, at the appointed time, and cut down and removed one tall evergreen, and trimmed and removed branches from another deciduous tree. I found them on Angie’s List. The person’s name was George, and I think he was very nice and knowledgeable. He gave me some advice, so instead of paying $280, I saved a hundred dollars. They were late in getting back to me because they had to cancel the appointment the first time due to the storm we had in this area. Their explanation was that they had other people whose trees were actually knocked down, and I understood that because all I had were tree stumps. They contacted me later to reschedule the appointment. They took a while about it, but I figured that it was because they had so many trees down in this area. Personally I found they were a little expensive for grinding down a tree stump, but overall they are a good company. They checked their work, they were prompt, and they did everything they said they were going to do, they were very professional.
