the drum was leaning to one side, another company told us the 4 shocks had to be replaced for $350+, Alco mentioned over the phone that sometimes the shocks can just be put back in place and no need for replacement, they were right, quick, inexpensive fix!

perfect. the guy was prompt, curteous, knowledgable and fixed it first time. the person who originally answered the phone asked for make model and serial of the oven so they could have parts on hand. The service man even determined that my oven hood fan was installed wrong and fixed that too. overall an excellent experience.

I called regarding the microwave and received an appointment for the next day. The technician came on time and quickly identified the problem (magnetron replacement) as well as potential causes leading to the problem. I also asked him to look at a leak on the washing machine which I had forgotten to mention earlier. He did a thorough review and because he could find out a real cause for this but was able to somewhat fix it, he did not charge me for that. Excellent service, I would not hesitate to call them back or recommend them.

Alco appliances was very responsive, knowledgable, and friendly - overall easy to work with. Our gas oven had been leaking gas just while the oven was on. It was easy to schedule an appointment and Alco came right out to look at the oven. The problem was diagnosed as two possible issues, either the safety valve or the thermostat. The technician recommended replacing the oven (as did the owner), but did say that a repair would extend the life of the appliance, which is really all I wanted. Both the technician and the owner were willing to go over our options and helped us make the decision. Unfortunately, the technician did not have the parts and had to order them and return to fix the problem. This was a minor inconvenience since it requires taking time off work to be in the apartment, but even with having the oven model number in advance I'm sure it's not possible to stock all parts all the time. Alco came back out at a time that was convenient for us, and made the repair. Only the safety valve needed to be replaced and the part that was not needed was returned at no cost to us. The only hiccup came when our tenant returned to the apartment on a Sat. after several days of being away and smelled a strong odor of gas. Washington Gas came out and turned off the gas line to the stove, and Alco returned the next business day to take a look. The assessment was a pilot light had gone out, normally not big deal - but with no one in the apartment for four days over the holiday - the smell built up. They rechecked the work that had been done the previous week, and stuck around to make sure the pilot stayed on. I was very pleased that Alco was so responsive, and both the technician and the owner answered our Sat. phone calls about the issue.

They were not clear when they quoted me the price it was just for the part and not also for the labor. So, when I got the bill I was a little suprised. It might have just been a misunderstanding. I can't say the price was unreasonable, but I'm not sure that I would have gone with this company if I had known. The part that they replaced did not fix the problem, however they came back twice to attend to it without charging me anything additional.

I called them after reading all the great reviews on Angie's List. I had to wait a few days for an appointment but it was worth it. Initially, they gave me a big window for repair time but were able to narrow that down within 2 hours the morning of the appointment. The repairman arrived exactly when we were told he would. The repairman was really knowledgeable and professional. On his way out, he even fixed a problem with our dishwasher that was created by a different appliance repair company we used about a year ago. I will be calling Alco for all appliance repairs from now on.

I was generally pleased with the company's efforts. I called and left a message requesting a service call. After not hearing back for several hours, I called again and spoke to a person who scheduled the day of my appointment. On the day of the appointment, I called around 10:00am to find out when my 2-hour window would occur. Jason arrived during that window, after calling to let me know he was on his way. Upon arriving, I explained the problem and Jason quickly got to work. He removed the screw that was preventing the lint trap from being fully inserted in the dryer. In addition, he noted that the duct running from the back of the dryer to the outside vent was clogged, so he cleaned it out. He was done in less than 30 minutes and was very professional.

In early August I noticed that the clock on my oven was not showing the time as well as the temperture when the oven was turned on. The oven still worked but the only way to know if the correct temperature had been reached was to wait in the kitchen to hear a beep that signified that. Then about a week later I tried to broil something and found that because of the situation with setting the controls I could not get the broiler to reach the proper temperature. I saw that Alco Appliances had very good ratings on the list. When I called the woman who answered was very pleasant and professional. However, she said that it would be almost ten days before they would be able to schedule an appointment in my neighborhood. She suggested that I might want to call another company because of the time it would take to visit my house. I decided that since the oven still worked and most broiling was being done on the grill outside since it was summer, that I could wait for Alco to come out. I reasoned that if they were that booked they must be good! I was advised to call at 10 AM on the day of the scheduled appointment and they would give me a two-hour time frame when they would arrive so that I wouldn't have to stay around the house all day. When I called I was told that Jason would be coming to my house between 1:30 and 3:30. Around 2:30 he called and said he was on his way. He arrived 10 minutes later. After I explained the problem he said he knew what was the matter, had the part to fix it but that the part cost $200. He asked if I wished to spend that much and I asked him if there were any other options. He said not really if I wanted the oven to continue to work like it had in the past. Since I have lived in this house which came with the oven almost six years and this was the first problem with the oven, I figured to go ahead and have it repaired. Jason immediately went to work and was finished in half an hour. He left the kitchen as neat as he found it and was extremely courteous during the entire visit. When he gave me the final bill, I saw that the other costs (labor, trip fee, taxes) came to less $85 which is totally unheard of in the DC Metro area. I will definitely recommend Alco Appliances to friends and family when they have appliance repairs.

I called them to come out when my washing machine started acting up. They showed up right on time and did a thorough review. Called to report broken knobs and broken meat drawer mechanism (a complex part on this Jenn Air French door model). This was the 2nd time I used this repair co., first time was to diagnose and repair a clothes dryer, which turned out to have a broken thermostat.

John was running late but kept me informed. He checked the washing machine (less than 3 years old) from top to bottom and while waiting for it to fill, changed the swing on my dryer door so it would be more convenient. He knew there was nothing major wrong with the disposal and got it running again by running ice through it. It was making an awful noise so I would not have done that myself. Actually nothing was really wrong with anything and he didn't try to sell me a bill of goods!! He also told me I didn't have to run hot water before I ran my dishwasher, which was interesting and useful information. The price for the visit was less than most repair places I had called. This is a find! He really knows his stuff. I had had to replace my previous washing machine after I had been ripped off by an incompetent repair company who could never fix the problem even when I ordered parts for them and paid a lot of money. This was such a difference.
Description of Work: The washing machine was intermittently leaking water and the garbage disposal was making noises. John checked the machine but thought it was a case of a big load causing water to go over the side of the tub since it was intermittent. He ran the disposal until the piece of metal went through after putting ice in it!

Very well. This was not an emergency, so the fact that ALCO does not service my area every day of the week was not a problem. On the day of the scheduled repair, ALCO gave a two hour window for service arrival. Jason showed up in that interval, having called 20-30 minutes in advance. He was very careful in diagnosing the problem and was professional/polite .

I selected Arco via recommendations in Angie's list. I called on the weekend and left a message. They got back to me right away on Monday morning to get some details about the model number. Arco said on certain models numbers on this Kenmore, the manufacturer is LG, and Arco would not be able to repair it because of poor quality. Fortunately this wasn't -- it was built by Amana. Then, after confirming the problem, they set up a time convenient to me (5 pm on a weekday). I preferred later, but this was the latest available. They called to confirm that day and arrived promptly (actually about 10 minutes early), calling to let me know they were at my house. I was running a bit late, but the repair person said not to worry, he would wait. Once here, he quickly determined the problem (a thermostat on the auto defroster in the freezer). He took everything out of the freezer and showed me that there was also ice buildup. He then defrosted the ice build up, repaired the thermostat, and overall spent about an hour and a half. He returned everything to the freezer and cleaned up after. He was very professional, clean cut, friendly, etc. I asked if he minded if I listened to the news and he laughed saying it's my house. The refrigerator is working very well now.

Called and emailed the company. We had a problem finding the makers plate that had the model number and other information. The Alco rep over the phone and through email patiently explained where to look on the stove for the information and agreed he would try to identify the model if we emailed him an image of the stove. We in the process of photographing the stove found the plate. The service tech showed up on time, carefully asked what was going wrong and then tested the range. He could not get it to act up through several cycles of heating and cooling. While monitoring the oven temperature he discussed with me the history of this particular GE model, explained what was unique about, who had actually manufactured it, and what parts usually caused problems. He also ran down the cost of replacing the thermostat which was very expensive (this model had not been manufactured in 10 years) and suggested that another part could be causing the problem. In the end he could not find anything wrong with the stove and recommended that we not have the thermostat replaced right away and suggested calling them back in if it gave us further problems. Since then it has not given us any further problems. I was very impressed with the knowledge this man showed and the care with which evaluated this much loved appliance.
Description of Work: Old but good condition GE Gas Range stopped heating the oven evenly, either burned the cookies or under cooked the roast. Suspected the thermostat was not working right. We didn't want to replace an appliance that we liked and had used for so long.

Excellent all around. They were able to schedule us within a day or so. They cleaned both the clogged hose and some clogging inside the machine, and also advised us to replace a worn belt that didn't have much life left (a relatively inexpensive item). The machine works great now. They did an excellent job, at a very fair price for the amount of time they spent, and were courteous and professional. We could not have asked for more.

First, I was very happy to find a company that would come to Northeast DC! I went online to Alco's website and sent a repair request via the internet. I received a call the next day and was able to set an appointment for that week. What was even more amazing was that they had evening hours! I received a call the evening of the service to give a time that the technician would be here and he came at that time. He knew what the problem was immediately (I had given the model and serial number in the email) and repaired it in minutes. He then went on to tell me a little about the dryer that I owned and cleaned out a internal lint trap. He cleaned up the area and then we settled the bill.
