On the initial visit, the trees I wanted removed were marked, and I was given a quote for the work. I was advised that I should have the stumps ground to prevent problems with shoots coming up, but that I should not have the grindings hauled away, as it would leave a sizable hole in the yard. This advice saved me some money, which is always appreciated. On the day of the job, The team arrived right on time, reviewed the work to be done to make sure it was correct, and got started right away. The crew was fast, fast, fast. I would still be trying to figure out how to start a chainsaw by the time they were done. The tree branches and trunks were fed through a chipper and hauled away, all the small twigs and leaves were swept up and removed, and the grindings were piled neatly up where the trees had been. A very pleasant experience from start to finish.

The company's bid was the middle amount of the three I received. One was suspiciously low (around $2,200) and the other was significantly higher (in the neighborhood of $6,000). One landscaper checked out the property and never submitted a bid. No one except the lowest bidder suggested I chop down any of my trees, some of which are probably 100 years old. I'm happy with Adirondack's work, and my experience confirms this rule of thumb -- always resist the temptation of going with the low bid.
Description of Work: Adirondack Tree Experts completed the work promptly and as advertised -- they trimmed three large tulip poplars and two white oaks in the front and back of my property. They also removed a dangling branch from a flowering judas damaged from heavy snow two winters ago. The trimmers worked swiftly and mulched the branches they chopped down.

Their bid was well below their competition (even without the Angie's List coupon), and they arrived as scheduled to do the work. When it became apparent that an extra piece of heavy equipment would be necessary to lift the stump-grinder, they produced it with the hour (rather than having to re-schedule to another day, which would have required keeping the street clear of cars another day) and completed the job. Minor damage to my front steps caused by the stump-grinder was expertly repaired within 24 hours. Add to all this a courteous and pleasant staff, and you have a winner.

They are incredibly responsive. They are very clean. It is a quality job for the price, and very good value.
Description of Work: We use Adirondack Tree Experts for tree service. The owner of the company, who is also an arborist, came out and assessed some trees for a construction project that is going on. He helped make determinations on what we need to do to work around those trees.

Contacted the company late January to see about having the Maple tree in the front yard removed. They came out and left and estimate of what the cost would be. Also informed me that I would need to get a permit from the county to have the work done. Once I received the permit was able to have the work completed. Adirondack contacted the utility company too. On the day of the job they arrived on time went straight to work. Once finished everything was cleaned up and hauled away. The team works together as a well oiled machine as the saying goes. Have another tree in the back that needs tending to. Will call Adirondack for that one too.
Description of Work: In the process of having my home renovated it was suggested by a plumber that the tree in front of my home be removed. Roots had grown above ground and would cause plumbing issues in the futrue. Maple tree in front of my home was cut down. They also ground the stump and roots to five feet out. They hauled away the large pieces and mulched the rest. Put the dirt back in the hole that was left from the tree.

My experience with Adirondack was absolutely wonderful. The problem was at my father's house in Bethesda - he was not aware that the wisteria vines my mother had planted in the early 1980s had grown into predators the size of trees themselves and were killing several old trees on his property and the neighbor's. I noticed it during a visit - there were whole tree limbs hanging free, held up only by vines, some hanging directly over the roof. Vines as thick as tree trunks were everywhere. I found Adirondack on Angie's, called and a very friendly person (Jamie, I think) arranged an appt for an estimate on the soonest date that I was available. She called a day in advance of this and the next appt to confirm. Dan appeared exactly at the time of the appt, took his time inspecting the situation, impressed me with his knowledge and straightforward assessment, and gave us a very fair estimate. The work was again scheduled at my convenience. The workers actually showed up half an hour early to avoid traffic, got to work immediately - two guys were swinging around in the trees with chain saws eliminating deadwood, one guy was on the roof hacking out vines, and two guys were on the ground hauling the debris to a wood chipper. I expected the work to take at least seven hours, but they were done in just over three hours. Everyone I communicated with, from the front desk to the guys in the trees, was super friendly and courteous. These are genuine pros, I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Hacked through a jungle of wisteria vines that had choked and destroyed several immense trees and taken over the roof, cut out deadwood (about 4,000 lbs of it) that was threatening the roof, cleared out all debris.

The tulip poplar was probably planted just after my one-story house was built in 1951. The trunk, at its closest about 20 feet from the house, stretched above the roof ridge before branching out, and the crown was so huge that on Google Maps, you couldn't even see the house--just the tree. The Adirondack estimator arrived promptly and gave me an estimate that included removal of the poplar, including grinding the stump to grade level, and removal of dead branches from a wild cherry tree in the back yard. He cheerfully identified the species of some of the smaller trees in my tree-ful yard that I was considering removing and told me that since those trees were healthy and causing no problems, he saw no good reason to gratuitously remove them: "Sorry, ma'am, we're not going to hustle you for more business," he said. He then handed me copies of the company's state business license, general insurance, and workmen's compensation coverage. The day before the work was to be done, the company had arranged for "Miss Utility" to mark the underground utilities and had posted "No Parking" signs on both sides of the street so the neighbors had ample time to move their cars out of harm's way. The day of the appointment the crane driver showed up 30 minutes before the scheduled start time, and the remaining crew arrived on time. When I left for work the climbers--in bright orange jackets and hard hats--were checking their lines while the dump-truck and crane drivers were discussing the best placement for their vehicles so that the cut branches could be lowered straight down. Traffic cones had been placed in the street to block through traffic. When I got home the only evidence that tree work had been done was a large pile of mulch in the front yard where the stump had been ground and the fresh cuts on the cherry where the dead wood had been removed. All the debris was gone, including some limbs that had already been lying in the yard from winter storms, and none of the many shrubs in either the front or back yard had so much as a broken twig.
Description of Work: Removal of a 60-year-old tulip poplar tree in the front yard whose trunk was approximately 20 feet from the house. Safe-pruned dead wood from from a wild cherry tree in the back yard.

They worked really fast. They were true to their estimate. They did a nice job on the trees. We have gigantic trees in our yard, and they climbed right up. It was amazing. They were heaving big limps down and managed to not crush the house. The overall experience was excellent. They were professional, punctual, and responsive. I would use them again.

I called late in the afternoon to request an estimate for removing 2 trees. They sent someone out the next day to look at the trees and we had a written proposal that day. I called the following day to schedule for the removal. I was able to schedule for the following week. The crew arrived 5 minutes early and were very courteous and quick. They had our 2 40+ foot junipers down and the debris hauled away in just under an hour. I was very impressed with the professional and kind nature of everyone I interacted with from Adirondack, from the ladies I talked to on the phone to the 4 men who came to remove the trees. Their price was also unbeatable - $400 to remove both trees, all the cuttings and ground the stumps.

Adirondack came to provide an estimate within 3 days of calling to request it, and I scheduled service for a week later. The price was about what I was expecting for the service, and seemed fair for the amount of work done. On the scheduled date, the crew showed up right on time, and was completed within 20 minutes. They did a good job, taking the stumps as close to the ground as possible, disposing of the trees, and sweeping up the yard of any large chips or scraps. I was very pleased with the service I received, and would recommend Adirondack for any future tree maintenance needs.

After finding Adirondack on Angie's List, I called to schedule an appointment for an estimate. I was able to schedule an estimate within the week. He listened to what I wanted done and even advised me about how the service would help the tree and provide what I wanted. He gave me a written estimate on the spot. After reviewing it with my husband for a few days, we called and schedule an appointment. Within 2 weeks from my estimate, my appointment was schedule, they did the work, cleaned up everything and we were totatlly satisfied!! Thanks Adirondack....and Angie!!!
Description of Work: We needed the tree in the front yard trimmed...It hangs over our driveway, the porch and my neighbor's driveway (we live in a townhouse). They showed up with about 10 guys and make quick work of trimming off all the branches and then cutting the trunk to the ground. The stump was ground immediately after the tree was removed and in all it only took about 3 hours. They cleaned everything up and made sure everything was satisfactory before they left. I am extremely pleased with the work and would highly recommend them.

Scheduled an estimate and gentleman came on time and called prior to arrival as requested. Unlike two other estimates I had gotten, he did not recommend feeding. I actually stopped by their office a few weeks later to ask some questions and then scheduled the work. They arrived on time and finished quickly including cleaning up. The foreman reviewed what they would do and then checked with me before they left. I think they did a fine job, but will know more in the spring.

I found working with Adirondack to be a learning experience and pleasure. Before we invited tree services to see our trees and submit a proposal, I met with an independent certified arborist for advice on what needed to be done. Then I met with several tree care businesses. I particularly appreciated meeting with John Anna, a certified arborist and President of Adirondack. He taught me about why two of our trees were growing in certain ways, and why he recommended what he thought needed to be done. I like his approach and valued his analysis with respect to cables (particularly why they may be either unlikely to address certain issues and can be problematic). While I met with other highly competent companies and arborists, I decided to hire Adirondack. That turned out to be a very good decision. The team of 5 John sent out did excellent work on the two trees that needed attention. The team leader organized everything very well, and the climber and trimmer was exceptional. The team cleaned up very well. Even my neighbor behind us, who I called after the team finished trimming the pin oak in the back and cleaning up in her yard and mine, was very impressed with how well they did everything, including raking to clean up. The two trees look excellent. The team was very cooperative and friendly. The team leader made sure I was satisfied with the work and walked me through everything carefully. I am very pleased I selected Adirondack. I highly recommend them and will hire them in the future for any tree work we need.

Initially, I spoke with the office staff to arrange for an estimate. They were professional and courteous. It took a little longer to schedule the appointment then I thought it would. When I agreed to forth with the work, I was sent a contract which I signed and returned. The appointment for the work was then scheduled. The appointment was set for 10:00 am. When an hour and a half went by without seeing or hearing from anyone, I called their office. I was told the crew was running late and would be at my house shortly. I would have preferred it if I had received a phone to let me know they were running late. As it turned out, they came by at around 12:30. That's 2 1/2 hours I could have used to run an errand, take my dog for a long walk - any number of things. When they arrived I met the foreman, who was courteous. We reviewed the work to be done and then the crew got started. I had a couple of requests about leaving certain branches, which they obliged. Honestly, the work they did was excellent. The crew obviously were well experienced. The communication between the foreman and crew was accurate. They all seemed to treat each other with respect, as well as the job they were doing. All the branches and debris were cleaned up before they left. I was very happy with the outcome! Relieved that the job was finally done and done right.

During the estimate, the estimator was quick and professional, and provided a copy of all credentials and licensing without being asked. There was no pressure for a sale, and in fact the estimator suggested we scale down our work as some of it may not be necessary based on location. We ended up keeping all of it, but the sheer professionalism of the estimator was welcome. On the day of the work, they came out right when they said they would be here, and within 3 hours, had completely finished everything and cleaned up. They made extremely short work of the trees, working very quickly and efficiently. I will definitely consider using them again for tree work.

Last year Adirondack came out and did a major trimming on a large elm tree in addition to some other tree work. This year I wanted the tree to be trimmed back further and to have some large hollies trimmed as well. I had Adirondack come out to give me and estimate but they advised against trimming further either the elm or the hollies. While they said they would love the work, they felt it would not be in the interest of the health of the trees to trim them back further this year. We discussed waiting a year or two before doing any further work on these trees. I really felt like they cared more about the trees than just getting the job. This coupled with the excellent work they did last year have sold me on Adirondack for all my future tree work.

Within two days of contacting the company a representative visited the property and provided an estimate for all service, as well as, explained how to obtain a special tree removal permit from the DC government. The estimate was significantly less than other companies and I signed a contract on the spot. The longest part of the entire experience was spent waiting on the DC government to send out an arborist and grant the permit to remove the trees. Once a date was set, the company showed up on time and performed all services exactly as agreed. They cleaned up all debris and were done before lunch. I would definitely recommend this company and will use them again in the future.
