Job was done professionally and promptly. John Anna explained that his firm carried workman's comp and insurance. Most homeowners don't consider these factors when shopping for price alone. One could get in deep doodoo if anything happened (tree falling on neighbor's property, workman getting hurt etc

Called Adirondack and set up an appointment for a cost proposal. I was not home (not Necessary). They did the inspection of my property and promptly sent an estimate for the work. I had two other estimates that were much higher. One was twice as much as Adirondack and the other three times as much. Two days before the scheduled work Adirondack called and said they had a crew available at 11:00 that day and would it be ok if they did the work that same day. I said it would be fine and when I arrived home that afternoon the tree was gone. The site was in the middle of one of my garden beds and there is only a 42" wide arbor to access the back yard. Not a scratch or disturbed plant. What a pleasure to work with such a professional company.

The team arrived early with all the equipment necessary to do the job, including a 100 ft crane and mulcher with an 18 in. capacity. The crew member in the tree attached a cable and then cut off a large section. The crane operator took the cut section away from the wires and over the house. They repeated this operation until the trunk was removed at ground level. They were very professional. They cleaned up all the leaves and branches. I could not be happier!

Adirondack was professional and punctual in providing the estimate. John was particularly helpful in providing the contact info for a company which could remove, if needed, and reinstall the stockade-style fence which surrounded the courtyard. The bid from Adirondack was in line with some other bids we received but a fair amount higher than one other company. We chose to go with the lower-bid company which had excellent Angie's List reviews. Adirondack is also very highly rated by Angie's List subscribers.

In February, I called Adirondack for an estimate to remove a dying cedar from the front of my house (60+ years old) and an enormous nearly dead cherry (70+ years old) that sits on the property line between my house and the neighbors, but is overhanging my shed and house. They provided a proposal to remove the two trees but indicated that they needed written permission to enter my neighbor's property to perform the work in the back. The house is in foreclosure and is owned by a bank, so it took several months to obtain permission - at which time Adirondack returned to reassess and confirm the proposal. The estimate went up approximately $100 between February and May - primarily because once the tree leafed, it was easier to see the extent of the decay and it was considerably more dangerous than expected. When I questioned this, the owner called and explained this clearly. Once we determined the price, they scheduled the work within a week, arrived exactly on time with a team of four and got to work. One of my neighbors wanted to use the cedar for an art project and the team removed the foliage and cut the limbs and trunk into sections she could manage. They moved her pieces to the street and stacked them for her to collect later. They were very patient with our instructions. They then moved to the back where they needed to trim branches from lower trees in order to drop the cherry. They worked with me to determine how best to trim the other trees so they wouldn't look odd and spent several hours carefully lowering the branches and trunk of the cherry. They cleaned the work site carefully, and also trimmed another tree that was hanging on the power line free of charge. The cost was an eye-popping $1,600 and the job took more than four hours- after seeing how much work was involved, I believe that was a fair price. Everyone I dealt with - from the estimator to the owner to the woman in the office and the crew - was pleasant and professional. I've used Adirondack in the past and they've been great at assessing whether work really does need to be performed. Several years ago another company told me a large tree needed to be removed - for about $2,000. Adirondack came and recommended a severe trim for several hundred dollars instead and the tree is still going strong. I highly recommend this company!

The crew arrived on time. They surveyed the property and identified the work that was assigned to them. They arrived with their equipment, which was a couple of pick-up trucks, a bigger truck pulling a "tree-shredder" (for lack of knowledge of what that is called). One of our neighbor thought we were going to cut down a lot of trees, so she came up and talked to the head guy. We quickly intervened and showed that we were only taking down a dead tree and we had the necessary permits for doing so. So that went fine. The crew did their job well and cleaned up after them. One of the things I would note is that the company had asked us to free up the sidewalk and the driveway so that they could park their trucks in front of the house. Somehow, the crew does not follow that and they ended up putting stuff in the (other) neighbour's pristine lawn, which is annoying, to both us and the neighbour. The neighbour made her displeasure known. Although, no damage was done in the end, it would be better if the crew followed certain "etiquettes" of respecting the neighbours property when they do work. Minor point though, since you asked. I only gave a B for the price, because I don't think it should cost as much as they charged for trimming a few branches of the hedge. In the future, I will be doing that myself. A lesson learned.

I selected them from Angie's List. Looking at this huge tree that had fallen on my house during the storm, I could't imagine how they could remove it. They came with a huge crane that they parked in my driveway, and this enabled them to reach over the roof to the rear of the house where the tree was. They began by lowering a man with the crane into the tree, and just cutting it apart. There was a large crew of about six men with very large chainsaws. Some worked from the bottom, and at least one was lowered by the crane to work on the branches and such from the top. The pieces of the tree were lifted over the roof and either put into a mulcher, or dropped into a truck. It took about two hours. My only complaint was that they didn't remove the stump, because my insurance wouldn't pay for its removal. Very, very efficient and professional. Excellent cleanup, considering all the work that had to be done. Since insurance was paying for it, I had no issue with the price. Very expensive, but lots of equipment, difficult and dangerous work done very well. I do have pictures if you are interested.

One of my neighbors had used them with good results & they had good ratings on the List. The first time they came, they did exactly what they were supposed to do. I called a couple years later for trimming again. 6 men - 4 in hard-hats, some just standing around, with 3 vehicles showed up. The estimator came in saying it would be $400. After I signed the contract, I noticed he wrote something in the header but didn't check it. I found out, later, that it said that the $400 price to get the to the property & that the final price would be determined by what work was done. I wrote the check for $400, writing in the memo line – “In Full”. At first they weren't going to accept it but I told them take or leave it & they took it. They did the work & that day they cashed the check – didn’t even deposit it in a bank as would be expected of a normal business. I no longer use their services.

Response from Adirondack Tree Experts
I am truly at a loss with this members comments. We first did work for this member in October of 2009 which entailed various trimming of several trees. We again provided services for this member in April of 2011. When we provide an estimate, it is done well in advance of the crew arriving as all of our repeat customers are aware. In both instances, this member was given an estimate 3 weeks in advance of the 1st job and 4 weeks in advance of the 2nd job. Hence, her story of signing a contract with "6 men, 4 in hard hats, some just standing around" is a false statement. She signed the contract well in advance of the crew arriving. We do not send a crew until the contract is signed. She claimed that she "noticed he wrote something in the header but didn't check it and later found that it said the $400.00 was to get to the property and that the final price would be determined by what work was done". This is also a false statement, I have in my possesion both contracts and not only would we never write such a thing, WE DID NOT!! She also claimed that she wrote "in full" on the check and that we were not going to accept it but she told us to "take it or leave it and we took it". This also never happened, we have both of her checks on file as we have a direct depositing system in our office for depositing checks into the bank, we keep the checks! She also stated that we cashed the check and "didn't even deposit it in the bank as would be expected of a normal business". We have never cashed a check and as everyone is aware, except this individual, you cannot cash a check made payable to a business at a bank. It must be deposited! Furthermore, she claimed we did this particular job in June of 2010, we provided services for her in October of 2009 and April of 2011. Not only did she wait nearly 3 years by her calculations to make a post to Angie's List, but she is clearly wrong on her dates as well as every detail she has published to this site.. I have taken the time to contact this member and have not been given the courtesy of a return call. I can only deduct that she used an unlicensed and un-insured door knocking tree service. They are notorious for showing up with a crew and immediately cashing the check as soon as they are done. This member may become the first member of Angie's List that we bring a civil action against for publishing such slanderous, eroneous and business damaging comments that lack any integrity whatsoever.

We called Adirondack for an estimate and the estimator was out within the week and left a written estimate and a copy of the company's insurance certificate. We then requested additional work to be estimated and the same estimator was out within a week. I was home that day and we walked the yard and discussed the work on both estimates. The estimator was very honest and advised against bringing some trees down, and recommended trimming only. We also worked with our neighbor on a tree that overhung into our yard. Adirondack worked to do both jobs in the same day. The company showed up on time, worked professionally, and cleaned up. The foreman went over the job with me and even took one additional branch down. We had a bird house with a nest in one of the trees and they took care to relocate the house and let me know. We would absolutely use this company again and highly recommend them.

I was very happy with their service. I initially received an estimate last October but though they were a little expensive. I also received a follow up call in reference to the estimate and advised them that I was still reviewing. I then contacted 3 other tree companies and they were all actually the least expensive but not by much. I then contacted them last week and had them come out and they re-evaluated and nothing had changed so I was able to schedule my service today. It took them about 2 hours to complete the pruning and trimming of all 3 trees. They did an excellent job on cleaning up all excess branches as well as any remaining sawdust. I would definitely recommend them to any of my friends as well as using them again.

For a new home owner intimidated by the enormity of handling a giant dead tree, they were great to work with from the moment I contacted them. Dan Miller came out and left us a clearly-written estimate while we were at work, explaining the cost of each task - cutting, hauling, and cutting an overhanging branch from a neighbor's tree, also saying that we would need permission from the owner to cut that branch (which we couldn't get - bank owned house in foreclosure). I called them to clarify the permissions, as well as how to get permits from the city/county for the work (didn't need them after all). They explained everything very clearly, including how their stump grinder couldn't safely navigate our property. Their crew came out right when expected and set immediately to work. Arriving at 7:45 they were done and cleared out by lunch. They even very kindly hauled away an additional small pile of wood/brush from another little tree I took down myself the day before. The climbers took larger branches off one at a time, down to the trunk, and then climbed down cutting people-sized sections as they went. It was clear they were very safe (as one can get high up in a rotten tree with chainsaws) and even the trunk falls were very controlled with ropes. It's a good thing they came out; as one of the main sections they cut hit the ground, it was so rotten it shattered. If the tree collapsed it could have crushed our studio, or house, or worse. By the end, there was nothing left but a very, very low stump and a little sawdust. It was an expensive purchase, no doubt, but with how easy everything was, how professional they were from the beginning and the enormity of the task - these guys are worth every penny.
Description of Work: Adirondack cut down and hauled off a twin oak tree in the far back corner of our property in West Lanham Hills. The V-shaped tree was about 30-40 ft tall and dangerously rotten inside. The crew arrived at 7:45 and was done well before lunch, with nothing left but a very low hollow stump (their grinder couldn't navigate our muddy, sloped yard, which we knew ahead of time) and a little sawdust.

We had a 145 foot poplar tree that had been coming down in large sections for several years, and it was dying. We called Adirondack Tree Experts along with several other Tree Experts for esitmates. We chose Adirondack's because they had the best price, could take down our tree within a couple of weeks of the estimate, and told us exactly what would be done and how it would be done. They called ahead to confirm the date and time, and showed on time with an experienced crew. Dropping a tree of this size is not easy, but they had it down and the wood removed within several hours. This tree was located in a raised garden area, and they were extremely careful not to damage the garden walls by staking the logs already cut around the walls so when they dropped the rest of the trunk it would land on the logs and not the wall. They were also careful about the path they took out of the backyard. They were careful not to damage the lawn along this path. I was completely satisfied with the work they did, price, and knowledge, and I would definitely recommend Adirondack Tree Experts to anyone who needs a tree service.

We initially contacted Adirondack to remove a dead plum tree and clean up a maple tree with dead and damaged limbs in our back yard. They were prompt with scheduling the estimate. We accepted their proposal and scheduled a day and time for the tree removal. The derecho hit the area before they were scheduled to remove our tree. Another large maple tree in our backyard sustained a split limb from the storm and I was told I would get an estimate for that tree when they came to complete the previously scheduled job. They came later than originally scheduled, but given all of the damage from the storm, I was impressed that they were able to keep the appointment to remove our dead tree. I was given an estimate on our damaged tree, and they came back within a week to remove the huge damaged limb. The foreman even removed a dead limb from the dogwood in our front yard.

Adirondak was highly professional. We called for an estimate Week 1, received and approved the estimate Week 2, and had the work done Week 3. Appointments for the estimate and work were confirmed by phone the day before, which is more than many doctors? offices do now. The price was lower than an estimate given by another company. Everyone I spoke with at Adirondak was cheerful and efficient. Adirondak was under instruction to move vehicles and equipment to accommodate neighbors using the driveway, and did so. When problems arose - - none of which were Adirondak?s fault - - they addressed them immediately. When I neglected to include some work in the proposal, the company quickly revised it. When a utility marked in the wrong location, Adirondak arranged to have the utility return that same day. Our cable went out while Adirondak was removing the pines, so I drove up the driveway to speak with the crew. They showed me that all marked utility lines were well away from where they were working, and assured me that they had not even gone below ground to grind the stumps. I returned home to find the TV blasting, so I phoned the company to let them know. Afterward, the owner of the company, Dan Miller, stopped by just to make sure things were OK. Because the ground was muddy, Dan expressed concern that grinding the stumps might disturb the surrounding grass. He promised to use mats to protect the turf, and double-checked to make sure I wished to continue the work

Company placed no parking signs 72 hours in advance of work. Work was delayed one day because of rain, but I was notified and work rescheduled for following day. Four company employees arrived on time. I explained what was important to me: removal of a major limb that touched my neighbor's house, removal of another limb hanging too low in my yard, and removal of branches that touched an American holly in yet another neighbor's yard. They also removed all dead or problematic limbs in the canopy. Work was quick, efficient and clean up left the yard looking better than when they arrived.

He advised me to keep the hackberries since they provide a screen between my house and back neighbors. I was very pleased. The job was to remove 2 large dead oaks from our yard. The company was prompt in sending out an estimator and in scheduling the work once I gave them the go ahead. The quoted price was significantly lower than the other bids I received. The job was difficult in that one of the trees was located in the limited space between our house and the neighbors' house, deck, and driveway. In fact, another company had refused to do the work because they viewed it as too difficult. Adirondack did the work without any damage to our property, hauled the wood away, and cleaned up the sawdust.

We first contacted Adirondack and, although it was shortly after Hurricane Sandy, received a prompt response. They wanted us to make sure the trees were small enough where we didn't have to get a permit. They guided us through the permit process (the city determined that we didn't need one) and we were finally able to schedule the estimate. John Anna, the owner of the company, came and gave us our estimate. He was very nice, knowledgeable, and reasonable. He even offered that his employees could take out some of the lingering bush roots. We felt he was very clear on what his employees could do and any risks associated with removing the stumps (they were located very close to our house and fences). We had one tree that was leaning over the alley and almost in the neighbor's yard. He did not exaggerate, but was honest that it was in a precarious position and better to remove it than be sorry. His employees arrived on time for our appointment. The foreman worked the stump grinder while the other employees removed the trees. The guy climbing into the tree was AWESOME and was obviously very experienced. It was clear that they all were concerned about everyone's safety. They were careful about using safety equipment (ropes, goggles, ear muffs, gloves) all the time and watching each other's backs. The process took a little longer than John Anna had estimated, but we were fine with it because everyone was working really hard and were very thorough. The tree removers did a good job of removing the trees and clearing out most of the wood chippings. The stumps are almost all gone (some parts were too close to the fence to remove). They even made sure to clean up our neighbors' backyards. The only disappointment was that it seemed like multiple chainsaws went down throughout the process and somebody would have to step aside for 10-15 minutes to get it up and working again. After the crew left, we later noticed that the stump grinder chipped into the bricks on the side of our house. When we called, John Anna offered to have their brick subcontractor take care of it. When the brick guy dropped off the bricks, we weren't happy with the color so we told John Anna that we were going to do it ourselves. During the estimate he warned us of the risks of removing a stump so close to the house, so we said he did not have to compensate us. He still insisted that he give us a partial refund for our trouble, which we felt was great customer service. We were really pleased with the work that Adirondack did for us. We will recommend them to any family and friends that need to have trees removed!
Description of Work: Removed 4 trees in our backyard. Two of the trees had two trunks each. One tree leaned over a power line and the alley. Also removed two stumps (one was huge) and related root systems.

I called the company to schedule an appointment for an estimate and the lady I spoke with was very nice and informed me that their company does not perform Tree Service in Baltimore City. I just wanted to let everyone know to save people time when they are calling around.
