Description of Work: I was skeptical that Ackerman would not really provide the same monthly monitoring service for our home alarm system at less than half the price we had been paying our original provider, but I was wrong. Since we already had a system installed when the house was built, and we have fulfilled that 5-year commitment, all we had to do was transfer to Ackerman for the monthly monitoring. The salesman was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The installer was friendly, efficient and professional. I suggest you avoid paying $44.95 per month for 5 years and just start with Ackerman!

Description of Work: Took over service from ADT one month later a sensor battery failed charged $70 to replace the battery. They didn't check the rest and another failed a week later and wanted another $70 service call. I bought 12 batteries for $4 each and replaced all of them. They don't tell you their $18.95/month is only for monitoring |And doesn't include keeping the system running. The free installation of a new system and monitoring by other vendors would have been more cost effective.

Great. The installation was quick and it looks great. They tech provided instructions on how to use the service to me and my mother. The salesman was honest and professional. I had to buy the equipment up front which is different from other providers but I am not locked into a long term contract and own my equipment. I can switch to any service provider I wish to use for monitoring. The monitoring fees are less then other companies and I have the highest service available with remote access and wireless monitoring. I am really happy and have not had any issues.

For business service, I requested an estimate for a particular service and gave a suggested time. Instead of calling to confirm the information, a company sales rep showed up with no idea what service I had requested. When I told him, he informed me that Ackerman did not provide that service and then tried to change the subject and ask whether I would consider switching alarm monitoring companies. For home service, low price, but you get what you pay for. Once, the alarm was tripped while we were away, but Ackerman did not notify the police. A supervisor conceded that they should have but that the person monitoring at the time was new and failed to notify the police. (Thankfully, it was not a burglar that tripped our alarm.)

Warning, Ackerman is a highly unprofessional group. I wanted to switch to them after hearing their commercials on WMAL. I had an existing DSC system and they said they could move it to their network. Their first attempt at this failed and then they didn't show up for the next two appointments. On the fourth appointment, they were unwilling to reset the system as needed to change it over and instead forced my wife into buying a new panel (assuming that the installer got paid more for this than reprogramming a panel). They left without having one of the key pads up and running and the salesperson would not return phone calls. They finally came out to finish the install and then would not leave until my wife paid them $35. They cannot deliver on their commitments - there are other services out there that have far superior service.
Description of Work: Switched existing non-proprietary system (DSC) over to Ackerman monitoring.

It's been very difficult to get service from Ackerman. I contacted them since I was unhappy with my current alarm monitoring provider. Ackerman sent out a nice salesman, but he didn't have all the information or knowledge necessary to finalize the contract. He said he'd get back with me to confirm aspects of the contract. After 5 days, I contacted him. He said they couldn't actually meet the terms of the agreement he discussed with me. I asked for a supervisor. He called back shortly later to say they'll honor the contract as he discussed. Never heard from a supervisor. I asked about setting up service and he said he'd call me back. Never did. I called again. He said he didn't have his computer with him. Couldn't get through again today and called the main number for Akerman. Now I'm told that the scheduling person isn't available to set up the technician visit. It's actually difficult to give them your business. Agreed to sign a 3 year contract, but am now reconsidering since they can't seem to communicate with customers. Maybe they decided they don't want to uphold the terms they agreed to and are trying to run me off :-). Very poor salesman service/communication. Their price is right, but they're missing the boat on customer service. They really need to better train their sales staff.

I made an appointment online and the salesperson called to make an appointment. He was condescending and sounded rushed. I told him that I only had a small window to talk. He said he wasn't sure when he could get to my house but that he'd call me on the way. I said that was okay. I waited and waited and finally I had to go. I was 5min from my destination and he started calling. Later I checked the voicemail and he had called while standing in front of my house. I called back to apologize and said "I thought you were going to call when you were on your way. When you didn't call I didn't think you were coming." He replied, "OK." This was borderline rude but then I was partially to blame because I could have called him too. So we made another appointment. He called to confirm and to see if he could arrive earlier. I was able to accommodate. He opened up my alarm system and said that my system was old and that I would need to upgrade to a newer system for the capabilities I wanted. He said, "it's going to cost you $278 for the installation and $24.95 per month for the service." Something made me suspicious about the whole experience so I said, "I'm going to have to think about it." He said, "what's there to think about" and looked at me expectantly. I said, "I'm not going to spend $300 on the spot just like that. I'm going to think about it." and walked him out. Five minutes later he called back and said, "my manager called me back and said we can do a $99 installation and charge you $35.95 per month." I said, "I don't know what I'm paying my current provider right now. I'll have to look it up and compare." He said, "you're probably paying more now with them." I said, "I don't know I need to look it up." He said, "well I'm rarely in your area. I'll only be around today for a couple more hours. If not then I don't know when I'll be in your area." I said, "ok." I know how much I'm currently paying but the salesman was not trustworthy, and that's reason enough for me to not go with this vendor.
Description of Work: No services were provided. The salesman was untrustworthy and condescending at times. That is not the way to do business.

The overall experience was pretty good. The techician came and installed it very quickly and he was here when he said he would. He was very prompt and efficient. There were just a few things with the service that I wasn't too happy with. I did request them to call before they arrive so that I could be prepared. The technician showed up without a phone call and informed me that he doesn't do that. I just thought that was a bit unprofessional. Also, when he installed the system, he didn't really explain the whole set up. He just kind of rushed in and out. It was almost like he was in a hurry to get to his next job. Because of this, he didn't really clean up after himself either. There was a bit of a mess left. Other than that, the system is working great, and he was very efficient and on time.

As I said above, they were prompt and worked very hard over a period of 5 hours to install contacts on our windows. They were much less expensive than Brinks and a lot more pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: We had our alarm service with another company. When we replaced our windows, the old company wanted more than $1,200 to change the contacts on our system. We were also spending almost $300 per quarter with them. We contacted Ackerman and they did the entire changeover for approximately $200 and we also got two months free and a lower monthly monitoring contract. Very satisfied.

They were good. I am almost 82 years old and retired. The upgrade of the equipment was $400 and it was a large installation because I chose to upgrade my equipment from my existing equipment. The service charge has been $18 a month. It was good. They came in when they were supposed to show up but they were a little late. They called me when they could not get here right on time. The sales person that I dealt with was very responsive. They were cheaper. I am using them now. I have been very satisfied with their services. I have not had any break in but the equipment seemed to work fine. The person who came and did the installation seemed very knowledgeable. Their price seemed compatible with everyone else and so, it was better than average. They were very professional and so far, they have been very good. When I called, my then service provider, to tell them that I was changing, they said that they could have done it and I told them that they should have done it earlier.

This was very frustrating. The guy showed us the alarm system and it had a special three months offer. The sales person that came out was very personable and very good. The people that came to install did an average job. We were supposed to get two remotes but we didn't get any remotes. Then I got one remote and I canceled the second one because it was very frustrating. I have a three year contract with them which I am going to drop. We found them through an advertisement in the area. I had the alarm system already and they started monitoring it when it started beeping every minute. They had to do some additions. They put in a couple of more smoke detectors and a cell phone type of system. I had to buy the smoke detectors. They came out a couple of times to install these things, which was not good. They were all subcontractors and they didn't communicate with each other. They were nice and pleasant people but the only thing is that they couldn't interact together. Their price was pretty good. During the installation they used to say they would get back, but never got back which was very poor. I guess they were professional.
