Lawn Doctor

I used them for 10 years. The mosquito treatment was $230, the five treatment lawn service was around $260 and the aerating was $125. Their pricing was comparable. They could have been consistent. They were good and then I don't know if they had new people who were applying the chemical, but they were missing spots and weed and crabgrass started to grow. That just really happened in the last year. So I don't know the quality of their product or the quality of their workers.

Called them 4 days ago to get an estimate. They said they would send someone over and they would leave a note by the door. I said, no, I want to meet with your guy and discuss the available package options with him before I sign up on a yearly plan. The woman on the phone huffed and puffed and gave me an appointment 4 days later (today) between 9am and 11am. I said can you give me a smaller bracket, she replied, no, they are very busy. Fine. It's now 12.30pm, and nobody showed up. Meanwhile I lost half a day sitting at home waiting for them to grace me with their presence and didn't even get a courtesy call saying that they would be late, or that, I don't know, weren't even going to show up! I have better things to do with my money than to give it to them if that's their idea of how to do business. I will go with Hillside Lawn Service, who came to check my property the very day I called, followed up the next day, and were courteous and polite when I told them I was waiting for a second bid before I made my decision. Well, I didn't precisely get a second bid from Lawn Doctor, but Iearned all I needed to know about them. Thanks, but no thanks. UPDATE 5/8/2013: They didn't show up at all on Friday and I stayed home all day long. They didn't call, either. They did, however, show up at my door on Monday like nothing happened. I told them I waited all day long for them on Friday. The man asked me why I didn't call the company on Friday, and I told him that I shouldn't have to remind them that they have an appointment with me. It kind of negates the entire concept of the fixed appointment. I also told them we went with another company, that actually called back when left a message, gave me an appointment for the very same day, and was on time. The Lawn Doctor guy was polite and presented well. I give him that. But that's too little, too late.

Don't take the first offer. Do some price comparisons.

It is a good company and they know what they are doing. They guy who owns the place has got a degree in horticulture. They have a guarantee which says if I am not satisfied with the results and if they have to do a re-application, they do. That was the case one time so I called and told them that the weed control application does not look like it had worked as there was lot of rain so they came back and re-did it which was impressive. There is no set time that they come, they just tell me they are going to come whichever week but they do come when they say they are going to.

We were both extremely impressed with this company when they were at our home last. We will absolutely continue to use their services in the future.

THE QUALITY OF WORK VARIES FROM MONTH TO MONTH AND YEAR TO YEAR. THEY ARE FRIENDLY AND PROMPT WITH SERVICE, BUT OUR LAWN HAS NOT LOOKED AS GOOD IN RECENT YEAR. WE HAVE A LOT MORE WEEDS NOW. THEIR PRICES CONTINUE TO INCREASE AS WELL.
